Horrible. The front desk lady is very shady. The dentist is uncaring. I went in for a cleaning. I did have a vulnerable tooth (temporary crown, needing crown) the dentist cleaned it so roughly that it feel out within a few hours!! Prior to my temporary crown falling out, the front desk wouldn't let me leave without scheduling a follow up without ANY estimations! RED FLAG. Also, they have $100 cancellation fee. ANOTHER RED FLAG. On top of that, when I came back that day there were 2 other people there for emergencies as well. ANOTHER RED FLAG. Then the dentist not being attentive, maybe lazy? She was talking to her assistant about her next client while still cleaning my teeth. I'm pretty sure I can file a complaint to the board about this practice being negligence and not providing immediate remedies. I would recommend to avoid at all costs. This review is all over the place, but that's how it feels at this practice. They also charged a man $500 for 4 filling on 2 teeth!! They tried to charge my insurance $500 for cleaning and an x-ray where my insurance was able to negotiate it down to $200. AGAIN AVOID AT ALL COSTS. this practice prays on people. I was a patient here for a few years. After a recent cleaning I was told I had a cavity that would have to be filled and we'd need to make an appointment right away. The dentist kept poking at one tooth and asking: "Doesn't that hurt?" The tooth didn't hurt. And I am meticulous about cleaning my teeth. It didn't seem quite right to me. So I went to another dentist to determing if there was a cavity. The other dentist didn't see anything that required attention. Unnecessary dental work is a nightmare scenario for me. I opened Yelp a few minutes ago, thinking that I'd post a review for North Marin Dental, as I was there earlier today. Oh - I already did post a review - in Jan 2016, after my first visit. Well, since that was 7 years ago, I'll submit an update! First thing I should mention is that the dental practice changed ownership a year or two after I started going there. Dr Goodlett retired, and the practice was purchased by Dr Arylyn Donesa. That's important because any Yelp reviews--good or bad--prior to 2017-18 (?) should be ignored, since this is a different practice in the same building, using the same name. I see a few negative reviews about bills for small amounts showing up a year or two after the change in ownership. That's weird, but it sounds like something that could happen when a business changes owners. The new owner "paid for" the old receivables, and sends out a few followups, hoping that some people might pay. So I wouldn't select or de-select a dentist based on this. The reviews I care about are the ones where people indicate that the dentist is over-treating, or suggesting dental care that's not necessary. I've worried about that my whole life since these are the only teeth I have. I tend to NOT trust dentists! I remember when Dr Donesa and I were just getting to know each other, and she said something about keeping an eye on 3, 4, 5, x, and y (I forget all the tooth numbers). Warning lights flashed - she was going to try to take me to the cleaners! The next time I was in (semi-annual cleaning) she mentioned those teeth again, and reminded me to take particular care there when brushing and flossing. That was it. Hmmm. I guess it wasn't a scam or upsell in the making - it was a way to tell me where trouble's were likely to develop. And over the years it seems the mostly minor work I've had has involved those teeth. So yes - whoever your dentist is, if you EVER have doubts about proposed dental care, get a second opinion - plenty of Marin practices have "new patient specials." That said, I happen to be quite confident that Dr Donesa / North Marin Dental places MY best interests above any profit motive. Thanks for that! My updated review: still FIVE STARS! read more

I have not been to this dentist for two years because I have been overcharged quite a few times for services that I didn't ask for or chemicals that I did not ask for as an add on. In 2018, I received additional bill for $80 for what they forgot to charge in 2017 after 1+years. Today, I received a bill from 2017, 3 years ago for $60. There was no indication of what the bill was for, and just simply stated Balance Forward $15.40 with total of $60. I called and nice new receptionist said the person in charge is not around and the doctor says she can charge anything from 2017. This is why I have moved away from this practice. read more

I'm literally over the moon with my dental experience at North Marin Dental! (Yes the numbing has worn off heehee). Short story - amazing office that I looked long and hard for. Patient, light-hearted, knowledgeable and accommodating. Longer story - I hadn't been to a dentist in a year due to an insurance change and no momentum to find a new provider. The provider assigned to our household via the new insurance has horrible reviews and I was frankly scared to go to them. Finally pandemic hits and (probably due to stress and jaw clenching/grinding) my back tooth was becoming cold sensitive. I didn't want to see a dentist right away due to covid risk of a visit (for them and myself). Apparently not a lot of providers accept Blue Shield HMO and many that do also had horrible ratings. I literally spent hours reading reviews and was quite fearful of what there was to offer that my insurance covered. YIKES! So I expanded the search region and found North Marin Dental. They accept my coverage, taking new patients and able to get me in for an appt the same week. I booked an initial appt knowing that usually the first visit is cleaning and exam and we'd have to get to the problem tooth eventually which was fine as I was trying just to get in before it got worse. Cielo emailed me the forms so I could do them at home and not spend time in the waiting room. She explained clearly and also helped check the insurance. I was really impressed with all the Covid safety protocals the office has added! Temp and finger ox check, hand sanitizer, limited people in wait room/building, safety check list, masks, face shields and gowns. I felt very safe due to this diligence and appreciated that Cielo greeted me warmly and quizzed me on my health and practices to help keep them safe too. Had x-rays done by a very kind and patient woman Oksana. She had a number of pro tips as to how to keep this adult (with a mildly embarrassing gag reflex) get through all the xrays. Dr Donesa did my cleaning and exam and Oksana assisted. They worked very well together and remained light hearted even while under layers of masks and safety gear. To my actual excitement they were able to help with my upset tooth that i had actually cracked! They showed me the xrays and photos so I could see that damage - wow the advanced tech! Long story longer as I was so pleased - they never tried to upsell me on anything, in fact they told me teeth I need to watch and care better for to help REDUCE additional services needed in the future. They also were able to numb the area completely so this deep filling that needed replaced that lead to the cracked tooth could be repaired with less pain than I experienced with the original filling. They worked diligently to make sure that my bite aligned and gave me lots of aftercare instructions. AND all this was happening while the examination chair I was in was gently massaging my back!??! WHAT? Crazy right! It helped me take my mind away from the necessary drilling so that was cool! When the visit was done, Cielo explained the billing and the copay was in line with what I had estimated based on my insurance. She also restated the after care info and gave me copies. Off I went probably one of THE happiest people to have a filling replaced haha! That was yesterday and the numbing agent has now worn off. I have some tenderness but that is to be expected. I'm able to drink cold drinks again without searing pain and I'm so happy to have had this resolved so quickly. Thank you so much North Marin Dental! read more

Don't go to this dentist. My family left the practice 3.5 years ago after all being told we needed dental care that we did not need. I just had my first visit at North Marin Dental and it was a very positive experience, other than getting the news of getting my first cavity. The location is easy to get to, there's plenty of parking, the office itself seemed very clean from the front reception area to the exam room, and the staff was very helpful and welcoming. Since it was my initial visit I had x-rays taken and the exam where the gums get poked around (not a walk in the park, but it has to happen). I thought the exam and cleaning was very thorough and the dentist, Dr. Goodlett, seemed very knowledgable. The practice is in the process of switching over to Dr. Goodlett, so they have a lot happening behind the scenes, and I'm sure there's some dust settling from the switch (understandably so). Perhaps that's what the former reviewer was referring to? I'm not sure what the reviewer was talking about in terms of their dentist not having the right to work on patients. That's a pretty nasty claim to make, so I checked it out myself, and you can to, and at least the dentist that I saw today is licensed to drill: --link removed because my review got filtered for it I think-- If you go to the Dental Board of California yourself and look Dr. Goodlett up you'll see for yourself. I read every single review here on Yelp before I went to see Dr. Goodlett. And everything people have said is true. Quite remarkable. I had a chipped tooth that was taken care of in an excellent manner. Staff is super friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Prices are reasonable, and they help you with insurance. No one tried to push any services on me. They offered options and asked what I wanted. Definitely felt I could trust the doctor and the staff, which is huge. Some interesting things . . . the doctor is a whole lot cuter in person :-) and sensitive. And he talks. This is one fantastic reason to go to the younger dentists. They're a whole new generation of men who actually communicate. It's amazing what a difference that makes. My old dentist and assistant were never kind and encouraging. In fact, I've never experienced that in my 50 years of dental care. But here they were. I was really touched. And I can't believe the difference it made in the whole process. FIND ANOTHER DDS AND BEWARE OF THEIR UP SELLS! This group of crooks "recommend" procedures that can drastically change your overall standing with your insurance carrier. The hygienist who saw both my wife and I over the course of a year , "recommended a scaling, a procedure I have never had been recommended to do before. more importantly both my wife and I were recommended this procedure. After the procedures were done It changed our standing to periodontal maintenance patients and not a prophylaxis patient which are the typical patient classification for regular teeth cleanings. Here is their response. "Your actual balance will be: Approximately half of the $158.00 for the perio cleaning ($79.00--assuming they allow all of the $158.00--they don't tell me that info--so must wait to see when claim gets reprocessed) + $16.80 (unpaid potion of exam) + $50.00 deductible (which they apply for any periodontal services or other services they deem as"major") --for a total of $145.80" ... I am sorry your insurance plan is not more understanding of the periodontal patient and their needs. There are many plans out there that do recognize the need for the periodontal patient to have more than 2 cleanings a year and reimburse at a more commensurate rate. Please advise us if you and ***** want to keep your future scheduled appointments.. We don't want to lose you as a patients--but understand if you choose to go elsewhere." If you are aware that some insurance companies don't cover this and some do, you might want to tell your patients !!!!! (For the record this response was finally received almost three months after it was requested.) so now each time my wife and get a cleaning we get to fork out 79.00 x 2, twice a year for the rest of our lives.... This group is scummy, and are trying to supplement revenue from their lost patients when Dr Schwartz retired, with reduced hours and up selling the crap out of their existing patients. I highly recommend finding another DDS in Marin, or at a minimum take whatever BS recommendation they have and run it by your Insurance company to make sure you don't get the shaft. read more

As someone (like many) who don't particularly like going to the dentist and have resisted it for many years I have finally found a dental practice that truly cares for my teeth and overall well-being. The treatment with them so far has included periodontal cleanings and a couple of crowns. Needless to say I've spent a lot of time in their chairs. Dr. Garnache is very attentive, gentle and very much a perfectionist. The work she has done so far outshines any dental work I've had to date. She won't let a second rate job happen in her care. John Garnache is also as passionate about his cleanings and care about the overall patient experience. Preventative care is a priority with this team. I am very surprised regarding the negative review due to insurance problems. Throughout all of the service I've received at North Marin Dental I was always fully informed of how my insurance company treated the procedures proscribed by Dr. Garnache and provided me a choice based on what's best for my health and what's best for my pocketbook. All procedures were vetted with my insurance prior to any care. Lord knows the insurance industry is evil and I'm glad that their front office took the time to deal with them instead of having to navigate it myself. I was Dr. Schwartz's patient for many years and was sad when he sold his dental practice. However, I am very happy to stay with Dr. Granache and I wish her the best with her new dental practice. My experience has only been good and I have actually seen an improvement with the office upgrade (which is soft, comfortable and calm) and X-ray technology. In general I am nervous when I go to the dentist. However, my experience has been excellent with Dr. Granache. She make sure that I am comfortable and numb enough so I will not feel any pain. When she worked on my front teeth, I did not even feel the numbing injection. I also enjoy listening to John's calming music when he is cleaning my teeth. This has been updated: Jeremy Goodlett is long gone now. The place is not the same. Everyone has been run out by the dentist that took over. Now it's run by a filipino posse'. Not a good neighborhood dentistry. I've been overcharged and repeatedly rescheduled until they told me that they "NO LONGER ACCEPT BLUE SHIELD DENTAL". Without warning. So I had to find a new dentist. Which is a pain in the . If I would have had a heads up that I was getting dumped I could have searched for a dentist. That really showed a lack of respect. I was a client for years but I was loosing my faith in Dr. Heidi's work fast. I'm not saying she is a horrible dentist. She's not. If you don't have any real problems with your teeth. And the constant up selling was a real annoying issue. I miss Jeremy. I hate that things have to change. But when it's for the worse it stings. I will give 2.5 stars for atmosphere and 3 stars for the dentist skills. Only because I've been referred out to A specialist for a root canal and build up. That is something a dentist does right? We spoke about what we were going to do and the I was off to another room. When I got into the chair the hygienist Tammy (yes everyone goes by their first names including the doctor) she let me watch her open all of the tools right in front if me. I inspected the tools and they looked scary but sterile lol. She turned on the massage chair and I popped a couple of xanax & was instantly relaxed. Well as much as I could be knowing that they were going to drill into my tooth. Jeremy reclined the chair and shot me up with Novocain. 2 minuets later I felt no more pain. Oh if only the Novocain lasts forever. 25 minuets later I had a new tooth. Now if that is the sign of a bad dentist the lets hear a good one. The office was spot less. All of the equipment was sterile and covered with plastic. The dentist is hot and super funny! They work with you financially. You get free goodies. The only bad thing was the Novocain made me have some tremors. But I think that's cuz I had not eaten and joann went and got me a power bar to eat so I would feel better. FAMILY! I highly recommend DDS Jeremy Goodlett. He is a great business owner a well mannered man and a great Dentist. I plan on having all of my work done there. ***Update: There is an amazing new hygienist that works there named Simone. She is an absolute treasure. I adore here. I came to Dr. Goodlett because I had sensitivity in my teeth. He took the time to really listen to what was going on, and do a thorough examination. *Updating my review: After much consideration I have decided to remove two stars. This is because the practice promotes using non-fluoride toothpaste and no mouth wash (opting to rinse your mouth with water every time you eat something, instead of using alcohol: which "could" cause cancer...when you get really old). I have done research on this, and my wife has done research on this, and I have come to the conclusion that: You may be limited your exposure to cancer by following these methods, but this is highly unproven. Thus, you are going through more work in the name of speculation instead of facts. And, even if you are highly disciplined and follow these methods, you will be getting cavities way more easily. In fact, I had to get a cavity filled only months after switching to these methods, which was classified as a "natural cavity" by Jeremy. Apparently, I had been brushing my teeth wrong. Maybe, maybe not, is my thought. I think it was the non-fluoride toothpaste that had more to do with it. Anyway, I feel that the practice means well and has a great vibe. He is most definitely catering to the hippie crowd in the area, but just like the vegan diet (and we all know most vegans don't eat meat because they think that any animal with fur is cute, instead of for actual health reasons. Thus, many vegetarians also eat fish because they are not cute), I believe these methods to be extremely impractical/hard to follow and ineffective anyway. *Old review: Best dentist I've ever been too. Small and charming office in a quiet and stress-free location. The staff is friendly and all of the equipment is stat-of-the art. Feels pretty snooty for a dentistry (mainly the personalities of everyone, except for the dentist himself: Jeremy), yet everyone is friendly and professional and I'd rather be somewhere snooty than a place that is cheap or doesn't care. Everything is well thought out and a-typical, from asking for your music preference and playing a Pandora playlist, to having procedures and gum measurements and tools that I have never witnessed when at a dentistry. I had my wisdom teeth removed and they did not put me to sleep (sorry those who are faint-hearted), but used local anesthesia. I went in for two appointments so that I would not have to deal with pain on all sides of my mouth simultaneously. They gave me devices that helped tremendously with my healing process and I've heard of other co-workers going to other dentists and not getting any gear post-operation. They also worked with my schedule and told me when an opening came up and were flexible about scheduling dates. I actually lucked out finding this place, as I wanted somewhere in my plan (metlife PDP plus and noticed how 90% of dentists were foreign and bilingual, and I wanted someone simple to go to that would not be flashy or charge me a fortune with some extremely pretentious practice). Thus, my expectations were exceeded and I believe that for me, this is the heaven of dental practices. read more

The same thing happened to me as happened to a recent reviewer (Miho T): I just got a bill supposedly from 2017 - but had not received any such bill, nor any indication that there was an amount outstanding - in 2017, 2018, 2019 - only just now in the middle of 2020. Additionally, the same (far worse) thing happened to me as described by another reviewer (Albert D): Back in 2017, I was told it was imperative I do various dental work immediately, including a crown, when this work was in fact not needed (as confirmed by my prior dentist - who I since returned to, who compared all his x-rays with the ones taken by Dr. Donesa). The crown left my gums in a more vulnerable position (given the poor crown work that left a new space). Note that none of this was with Jeremy Goodlett; I had met with him once and was very pleased, but then he left the practice. [Note the dates too of the many positive reviews here - they are earlier dates - 2015 or before, when Goodlett was there.] The work I'm describing was all once the new dentist Arlyn Donesa came on board. I returned to my old dentist despite his relocation once I became suspicious about the vast amount of dental work she was proposing that had never been suggested by my prior dentist. read more

I had my teeth cleaned, x-rays taken, and two cavities filled and I couldn't be more impressed with Jeremy and his crew. This is the best dentist I've been to. Everyone is very friendly, they are honest, and they do great work. The atmosphere is very laid back and they'll even offer to play your favorite music for you while you're getting worked on so you can relax a little. They aren't all about upselling you either, they just do the work that needs to be done. After months at another dentist of bungled communications, the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing..........and a very expensive bungled bridge, I gave up. I had been driving past North Marin Dental for a year as it is about a block from home and thought to myself, what do I have to lose? Oh thank God I trusted my intuiton and went in. Dr. Goodlett is so awesome. So easy-going and realistic and takes the time you need. As are Star and the rest of the office, whose names escape me at this moment. (Sorry.....) I have read some horrific reviews here. I don't know who these people saw or are reviewing here, but it is very hard for me to understand them. I came to North Marin Dental (JEREMY GOODLETT, TRACY BELL) for the first time late last year. I needed a lot of work because of deltistphobia neglect. These guys are SAINTS! I could not get better treatment ANYWHERE. The work was impeccable, and they treated me as if I were part of their immediate family. They accept my insurance for what it pays and I pay for the things not covered. It is definitely worth every penny both I and my insurance pay. THIS IS THE ONLY REVIEW YOU NEED TO READ Jeremy, Tracy, Star and Simone, collectively known as North Marin Dental are the zen masters of dentistry. I have (correction- had) a debilitating, paralyzing life long fear of the dentist... so much so that even for cleanings I had to be put under general anesthesia. But after my husband (whose opinion I trust completely, especially since he knows how deep my fear runs) had recently been seen here, he assured me that this was a practice where I would feel safe and well cared for. And as usual, he was correct. Every single aspect of this experience was beyond pleasant- dare I say, even fun. FUN- at the dentist! Professional, knowledgable and hygienic goes without saying, but it was the bedside manor of this entire team that impressed me the most. I really did feel safe and well cared for. My (somewhat irrational) fears were managed, there was absolutely no judgement of me or the condition of my teeth (after years of neglect), AND....for the first time in years, my teeth didn't bleed when I brushed them!!! I can't recommend them highly enough, especially for people like me who are apprehensive about seeing a dentist. WARNING. While eating dinner I had a gold crown come off a molar. Early next morning I texted a request for an appointment. By 10 AM I didn't receive a reply so called. Receptionist said she didn't receive my request so I told he I would like an appointment to remount the crown. She said she couldn't do it today, I asked when. She said tomorrow at 9. I said I'll take it. At the dentist office I was told to rinse my mouth out with Hydrogen Peroxide for one minute. I guess this is a new anti COVID-19 procedure. I did. Then I agreed to one X-ray of the molar. I handed the dentist my perfectly good gold crown for cleaning and installing. I was on my back and couldn't see what she was doing but assumed she was prepping the crown. She stated, "there is a hole in the crown, but I didn't do it". She said this at 3 or 4 times. There was no hole in the crown when I gave it to her I asked her, " can you repair or seal the hole". She said, "no". She put the crown on my molar and there were no words passed while I bit down to hold the cemented crown in place. The dentist and assistant left and I went to the front office to pay. The bill was $445,00 for 1/2 an hour of work and a useless crown that she, or her assistant, put a hole into. This occurred on October 8, 2020. I consider this as barbaric. I have other words but they're unprintable. Whether the hole was put in on purpose or an accident, it was their fault! Beware. read more

So despite making an appointment weeks in advance, and despite having the email to prove it, they "forgot" to book it. They don't accomodate me and ask me to come back another day. So I took an afternoon off of work and came here for nothing. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I love these guys! They're the nicest, most relaxed and competent dentist and hygienist team you'll find in Marin. They make going to the dentist easy and (gasp) fun! Plus, they're right on Freitas Pkwy, which makes getting there from anywhere in Marin fast & easy. There are quite simply not enough words in the english language to describe the sheer awesomeness of Dr. Garnache. Monica, is my hero. She's more than my hero actually. She is forever my queen goddess of awesome dental coolness. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a sort of awesome and 10 being uber awesome, Monica gets a 75. Monica is the Unicorn of dentists. Mythical, funny, intelligent, kind, beautiful, and just plain amazing. She is a trained ninja of teeth, the scourge of cavities everywhere, she is a legend in the world of oral hygiene, a true diva of dentistry and a master of mastication. She's never hurt me, never insulted me or made me feel any guilt, she's the best dentist I've ever been to hands down. Monica saved my smile, saved my self esteem, and saved me a lot of pain...all the while without a single iota of judgment. Best dentist in the universe, without a doubt, and I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone with a mouth. Seriously, this woman is incredible and you'd be a bumbling idiot for not giving her a shot. As added bonuses, their receptionist, Carla is both friendly and helpful, and unlike most of the dentist offices I've been to, the Garnache's play good, contemporary, music in the background (no nail-bite worthy "muzak" or cheesy 80s ballads to be found). read more

I can say that not only did I have a wonderful experience but I got my husband and my mother to come in and see Dr. Goodlett and he took care of all of our needs did it in a very affordable manner and got a lot of work done in a short amount of time while I was pregnant so I didn't have to worry about anything post baby. I've read some of the negative reviews and I just don't get it. I think I've been there at least four times and every time I had a wonderful experience the staff was very friendly and professional everything was very clean and my mom had a great experience and then they were able to fix the problem with my husband's crown he has been having on and off for eight years it's been three years since they fixed the problem and nothing is happened sense.... so all these negative reviews really sound like BS. It just upsets me because they're such a great practice and there are a small business and negative reviews that are false can really hurt good working people. read more

I have had the most amazing experiences at North Marin Dental. The team are friendly, informative and very caring. My son was super anxious at having a cavity filled as he had had a bad experience in the past. Dr Goodlett went above and beyond and calmed him down, and did a great job! read more

I love coming to North Marin Dental. The Garnache's have moved but left their patients in good hands with Jeremy Goodlett. Goodlett performed a cosmetic procedure that a few dentist were afraid to take on. He did a fantastic job and is very educated in his field. This place always provides a warm, supportive atmosphere.
