Addendum: spoke with Bridget today who seemed to truly care about the not great experience Saturday so I am adding another star and likely will give the office another try. This review pertains to the office experience yesterday, not the abilities of the hygienist or dentist. I am seeking a local dentist in Marin County. Last week I received the most recent of many mailers for Kantor dental group, then called to make an appointment for a cleaning only. I discussed times and specifics for the appointment. I booked for 8 AM Sat. and was told the cleaning was 45 minutes. Yesterday I arrived on time and found no one was at the front desk. Waited for a few minutes. Had to call out and eventually a lady who came out, did not greet me or welcome me and said that the office staff had not arrived! (In our phone call a day before, I had clearly stated to Bridget, the nice office manager ahead of time that I was only booking the cleaning, -- no exam and that I was willing to pay with a check to receive they offered cleaning discount for $177.). On the phone she tried to upsell me a plan that I was not interested in and declined. After being directed to the room, I waited for hygienist who didn't come. Then a nice dentist Dr. Gutierrez came out and said he was there to examine me, and I said I had clearly stated no exam today I can only afford the cleaning. I then asked how much the exam! I reiterated that I was not yet booking an exam. The dentist said he didn't know how much it was went away and came back and said it would be $89 for 15 minutes. He asked if I had any recent x-rays and I said I do but will obtain them before booking. an exam l. I then waited for the hygienist who still didn't come. It is now over 30 minutes after my appointment. I got up and went to the front desk and inform the receptionist that it was too late to continue to wait for a hygienist when my appointment was at 8 AM, which was intentionally scheduled due to other obligations. I also asked her why the dentist came in when I had already discussed that I was only there for the cleaning. She looked in her computer at notes and said that the exam would be free. I said I wasn't informed of that but now it's 8:40 and I'm going to have to leave. The hygienist was busy working with another patient so apparently they double booked my appointment time. The sad thing about this whole thing was I was really looking for to try out a new local dentist. But the disorganization and bad first impression maybe question whether I should go back to this practice. read more

Dr. Kantor and everyone from the front desk, hygienist, and assistants are so friendly, professional, and treat me so well. Dr. Kantor is amazing, not to mention affordable with great results. Dr. Kantor and his staff are incredible, thoughtful, efficient and primarily compassionate. My mother's dentures were fractured and I know most of us can't imagine going without teeth. I feared it would be quite a long process.. I called the dental group. I spoke to numerous wonderful ladies there who got the appointment made quickly. My Mom just went in Wednesday of last week. Today She already has as of this moment a brand-new excellent fitting denture! That's a one week turnaround ! Dr. Kantor took his time to make sure that they were smooth and fit well. I also must acknowledge his gentle and patient manor with my mom I can't say enough about Eva and Bridget of the front office; incredibly helpful and just sweet and kind. The team took care of my mom so efficiently I can't imagine anywhere else being as wonderful as Dr Kantor's office who specialises in dentures amongst standard dentistry of course. I was a very happy patient here for several years, and I truly think the lead dentist is extremely skilled. I appreciated the care I received in the beginning and even recommended this practice to others. Over time, especially after the expansion, things changed. I started feeling like my concerns weren't being heard, and communication became more difficult. A newer dentist prescribed the wrong medication for me multiple times, and unfortunately I became sick. There was no follow-up or apology, and I had to come into the office myself to get the corrected prescription. I also sometimes felt uncomfortable speaking up about issues with my partial and there were a couple of visits where procedures were handled by staff still learning, which added a lot of time and uncertainty. I do want to acknowledge the talent and kindness that still exists here, but I no longer felt fully cared for. I've now moved on to a dentist where I feel listened to and supported. read more

Dr Kantor is such a great doctor and a nice guy. He's always positive and a beat. He did a good job on my implant and a few months ago. I was dieting and I was drinking apple cider vinegar and lime juice little did I know this eight away at my enamel and when I went in for my cleaning, I noticed that I all of a sudden had cavities on my gum line. Turns out this was a bad combination for my enamel and I had 11 cavities. I was shocked. Dr Kantor took me in two days later and filled on the cavities in 35 minutes and they look beautiful. I was so happy I did not have to have Shots for numbing as he just lightly drilled enough to Ruffin them up and then fill them. I was amazed and so happy do not hesitate to go see Dr Kantor. He's the best everyone at his office is also very nice. read more

Dr. Kantor's on the spot thinking to remove an old tooth root while my wires were off was a stroke of genius! It will have a longer time to heal and be better prepared to receive my upcoming bridge. I needed an implant and they were able to get me in the very next day. Everything was smooth, from the reception and insurance billing, to the assisting staff, and then especially Dr. Grey Kantor. They took great care to ensure I was comfortable throughout all the drilling and ratcheting and suturing. It was pain- and stress-free. Once I got home Dr. Kantor called to make sure all was well and to answer any questions. I wish they were in my insurance network, but I don't think I pay more than I do for my old dentist who was in-network. read more

Unfortunately I can not stand by my initial review of Dr Grey Kantor's services & procedures, after charges exceeding $25,000 the year before. First, the requirement of payments, in advance of service work, @ high rates in the thousands I noted was inappropriate, particularly given the poor quality of work with temporaries being used in critically important front teeth (he had put 4-5 Veneers just one year before.) He had one of his trainee assistants prep & put in the "temporary teeth" improperly; asserting the veneers gad (small) cavities behind them & needed to be removed. Second his practice does not accept my universally accepted DeltaDental Insurance, instead requiring I buy his insurance for $299 that only provides two basic cleanings a year & a discount of 10% off the retail cost of his services. Third, he charged me cancellation fees for missing an appointment when I had a family tragedy forcing me to miss one appointment (out of dozens I had with him over several tears.) Sadly, as much as I personally like Dr Grey Kantor, I live with the same temporary front teeth improperly inserted not by Dr Kantor, but by his trainee Assistant, 2 years later. read more

I have been going to Dr. Kantor for over two years now and I recently had a tooth disintegrate. I made an appointment but on the day of the appointment it was canceled because the doctor was sick. I was then informed that I would have to wait another week to be examined. When I expressed concern about waiting another week the office manager told me she could possibly find me another dentist in the same building since there are no other dentists in the Kantor Dental Group except Dr. Kantor. Dr. Kantor has surrounded himself with a bevy of young women who specialize in teeth cleaning. As for the heavy duty work like replacing crowns it appears that work is only done on Wednesdays which explains the long wait to get that kind of work done. Otherwise he has hired a lovely staff to clean your teeth. read more

So far, I've been incredibly impressed with Kantor Dental Group. I met one of the dentists this week about a big tooth and gum issue that I had feared might require dental implants. It turns out after x rays of the two teeth and gums, that although I might need some deep cleaning, my worst fears were alleviated. They have a beautiful office with a large staff and the staff is super friendly and professional too. Even better news, is that they have a dental savers plan for $399 for those of us without dental insurance, which includes 2 dental cleanings, x rays and 10% off of other needed procedures. My last dentist was a huge "shame"r, which was invalidating considering that I floss several times per day. Here, they don't blame you for tartar build up, as saliva can create tartar too. Additionally, my last dentist seemed a bit incompetent too. Here, I feel that I'm in safe and competent hands! Lastly, they have gum gel to help numb areas of your mouth if you are in need of any procedures. Huge relief for those of us that are very fearful of needles especially in the mouth! They don't consult with the patient first before pushing their dental items on them for purchase. I was pushed to buy expensive mouthwash from their practice for $18 (on top of a $200 electric toothbrush that they wouldn't let me say no to). I asked if the mouthwash was available for purchase in the store or online, and was told it's the same price either way. Turns out it's available on Amazon for $10. They can't just assume their patients can afford every item sold in their office. It's a shame that they don't advocate for their patients on every level. I feel taken advantage of on so many levels, and will be looking for a new office for dental services. Dr Ezra Kantor is always so nice and informative while being oh so patient with my nervousness. I can be a wuss at the dentist and I always appreciate his ability to keep me calm. I have been to about 5 different dentists in my life and all of them have confirmed the fear most people have of dentistry. But these guys are absolutely working their tails off to single-handedly change that stigma. First of all, they do everything they can to make sure you are happy and comfortable, TV above you and nice plush beats headphones to enjoy what you're watching. And then you get to the actual work. Wow. I have never been more at peace during dental procedures. These people care about what they do and their reputation and take so much care with making sure you don't feel pain and that you're not stressed out. If you're lucky enough to get Sam, she is literally the sweetest girl ever and will make you feel like you're hanging out with a friend. And Dr. Grey? More like doctor Great! I had a tooth shatter in my mouth and he made the process of cleaning and capping it so pain-free and it looks perfect! The admin staff? Literally never seen them in a bad mood, rude or impatient. Great Emergency Service - I had a crown come loose and my regular dentist wasn't available. With no advance notice they took me in as a new patient the day after I called. They had even offered me a same day appointment but I couldn't make it due to transportation issues. I showed up, filled out the inevitable forms and Dr. Kantor the Elder fixed my problem. He also noticed that I needed a filling and told me to have my regular dentist fix it. He didn't try to convince me to make him my primary dentist, he just did great, quick and efficient work. Special note: I'm in a wheelchair and obviously have mobility issues. In addition to his very helpful staff Dr. Kantor himself helped me out of my chair and then back into it when he was finished. I would recommend Dr. Grey to anyone looking for a new dentist. I hadn't been to the dentist in about 2 years and was quite embarrassed on my first visit, but Grey made me feel comfortable and at ease immediately. I had a short and painless initial visit and a return visit for a cavity fix (yeah, don't wait two years to visit the dentist...). The office is very clean, the staff is awesome, I had a great experience overall. Bonus is that Dr. Grey's schedule is flexible, he filled my cavity in the evening after I got off work. Lucia is so kind and worked with my crazy schedule to get me in to be seen- even putting me on the wait list and calling numerous times when cancellations happened to get me in on a day that worked for me! I am new to San Rafael and as such had to find a dentist. I wanted a local dentist and found one near my home. After two visits, I was very displeased with the way my bite turned out as it didn't feel natural after some work that I ultimately didn't feel was needed. I wanted to have veneers put on to correct a gap and old looking front upper teeth, so I started doing my homework online. I needed a second opinion on the potential extraction of a family members tooth. She was seen my Dr. Grey Kantor with only a few day's notice. Dr. Kantor was friendly, easy going and was amazing at explaining the work that would be required after showing us the x-ray on a large monitor. He also used a dental model to give us a good idea of what the dental restoration would look like as well as a very detailed care plan/quotation. A real plus was being able to use one of the ad mailers that had come to the house for the complimentary second opinion. I would certainly return. read more
