Due to a horrible car accident I have had tens of thousands of dollars of dental work done, including crowns, extractions, root canals, bone grafts, implants, etc These can be incredibly painful and very very expensive procedures. During the course of my reconstruction dental procedures I saw at least 10 different Dentists. I want to give the highest recommendation to Dr. Andrew Baek at Greenbrae Dental Center. A lot of people have fear of going to the dentist. This office, which is headed by the amazing Lionel, who makes you feel right at home. I highly recommend for many reasons, affordability, extremely skilled prowess, great attention to details whether it is a crown, an implant an extraction or a bone graft you could be assured that this is the one office that will do everything efficiently and affordably. This is my second review. First one 18 months ago where they went all out to so a last minute root canal and temp crown so I could go on vacation without any pain or trouble. Back again with need for implant. And was I stunned with the price. Less than 1/2 typical Marin implant center or any other dentist. If it weren't for Lionel the office manager I don't think this practice would be in business. I had to have a tooth pulled, and a bone graph done, which was done by Dr. Beak. That went ok, however a week prior to my appointment to have my implant done, I was told that he wouldn't do it, and wanted to refer me out to a periodontist. This is after he already told me that he could do all the work. Now I'm scrambling around trying to find someone to finish the work. Truly unacceptable. read more

Dentists are rotating and never stay long. There is no consistent care. On top of that, I suspect they've been overcharging me for years. This came to light because I need a crown and they had me sign a "treatment plan." I reviewed it later and noticed a $500 charge. They said it was for "lab fees" and for a 5-yr warranty. (Note that my insurance covers lab fees.) They just tacked this charge on to my bill without discussion or explanation. Crowns typically last at least 10-30 yrs, so why do I need 5 yr warranty?? My insurance would cover damage to the crown anyway. All to say, they tried to slip this by me, and it's something I won't need. I'm looking for a new dentist now. So very disappointed. read more

Literally negative stars. Scroll down and read Katherine's review. I had literally the exact same experience. Literally. They told me they had to do a deep cleaning and that it had to be done in 2 appointments for insurance purposes. So they cleaned half my mouth and had me pay upfront before billing my insurance. Red flag. Something feels off here because something IS off. At best this is a super shady business. I suspect something worse. I wish I had listened to my gut and walked out the moment things felt strange. It would have saved me months of trouble in getting my money back. Once I realized that they had incorrectly billed me as well as my insurance company I was on a mission. I had to email and call over and over and over again. I was finally connected with someone claiming to be the office administrator. They couldn't keep my name straight and led me on an insane wild goose chase. They couldn't tell me the name of the dental corporation that runs the office or anyone that worked there. The staff is kind and courteous. The dentist is also kind, but his expertise is questionable. Dr. Cai suggested that I needed three crowns and a deep clean. So I did 1/2 of the deep clean. After I left, I felt like something was off with their business practices. I decided to get a second opinion from a different dentist. Glad that I did! I don't need crowns and the deep clean was completely unnecessary! They were happy to take $400 of my money and then went ahead and billed the insurance for a half-ass job. What a scam. Look at the review dates folks - this office may have hosted a great dentist in the past but the place is in serious decline. I've had two bad visits in a row now and won't go back. The staff changes every time and the place now looks really rough with stacks of paperwork, opened boxes of supplies, worn dental chairs, dented and broken window blinds. The most recent... I was seated in the chair, x-rayed and prepped for the usual hygiene when the aide started with polishing my teeth first. Ok, I figure this is something new in my entire dentist experience. It's usually - xray, propphylaxis, polish, floss. Anyway, she abrades my lip with the polishing tool and says she didn't do anything wrong when I wave her off. She starts again and catches my lip again then bangs the head of the tool on my top row of teeth. Sheesh. So maybe she's completely new at this... She pronounces me done and says the dentist will be in. Mmm, ok. The dentist takes a 15 second look at my teeth says all is good and come back in six months. I say - uhh, what about prophylaxis? All she did was a polish. Then, I get a song about it's ok they now polish first and the dentist was just confused (how the hell couldn't he tell my teeth hadn't been cleaned?). So now the dentist is going to do the prophylaxis. He's miserable at it. Sprays my face with water. Allows so much water to gather in my mouth that it spills down my neck and causes me to gag a bit. Doesn't wipe around my mouth as he proceeds. Says he's done and doesn't do any flossing and I'm happy to get out of there. What a complete bunch of utter jokers at this dump. With any luck they'll be out of business in short order. Too bad, my first visits several years back were good. read more

This is a shady office. The worst dental office I ever experienced. BUYER BEWARE! I was over charged $700 in co-pays. They said they "estimate" the cost - well they basically charged me as if I did not have insurance. I think they rely on people not paying attention. If you go here Look at the statements your insurance provider sends you and compare. I am willing to bet this office owes you Money!!! I paid back in April and still haven't gotten any refund! The most likely had no intention of refunding me. They were relying on me to not pay attention. At first I thought my insurance was just crappy. No. It is the dental office that is. Real shady stuff. AVOID! TERRIBLE SERVICE AND SHADY BILLING PRACTICES!!! I don't like leaving negative reviews but this company cannot go unchecked any longer. I have been a patient for seven years. I come every 6 months and I have never had the same dentist twice (other than Dr. Baumgartner who was there, left, returned, then left again.) I feel like they are just here to give you the maximum number of procedures and upsell you on things like night guards and Invisalign. I always feel like I am being sold to, not personally taken care of. They charged me huge $$$ up front for an implant, then when I got my insurance statements back, I noticed I had overpaid by more than $400. I had to go back and forth with them for weeks to get my money back. If I hadn't noticed it I bet they would've never refunded it. They did it again this week, when I went in for a cleaning, they said I had an outstanding balance of $346 for services from 18 months ago. No bills, no statements for over a year. But "pay now." And now I have to go back to early 2022 with my insurance to verify all this. BECAUSE I DO NOT TRUST GREENBRAE DENTAL. Sorry, this place feels like it's become a shady money machine with HIGH staff turnover. Every person I saw there this week is new. I've been to a lot of dentists offices here in Marin and have never ever felt as comfortable and at home as I do in this office. The level of professionalism has always oozed through the welcoming smiles and genuine care of me not only as a patient but as a friend and human being. That bed side/reclining seat manner sorta speak that you can't teach in dental school is just spot on here. I really feel these are hard working honest people that are doing great work and not over billing the system with unnecessary dental work. Like so many other dentists here in Marin who just can't wait to get you in again for some thing or the other. I am reading reviews and am agreeing with all of the reviews. I relocated to another area of California and visited a dentist recommended to me in Southern California. While Greenbrae Dental recommended the replacement of several old fillings and crowns, my new dentist said that no replacements were necessary. What he did find was a crown had been placed on tooth that still had an infection. This required a root canal. Obtain a second opinion before any replacements there. I wish I would have done this. There was no consistency three years ago in the dentists ability and the billing was questionable. I had to send a letter requesting the office manager investigate the charges. The issue was resolved by sending the letter. Talking with the staff did nothing. In one instance the dentist left me in the exam room because she had to attend a meeting. This was difficult to believe. I am sending this three years after my experience because of what I now see how a reliable practice is run. Ask questions. read more

ZERO stars. Notice the dates of the positive reviews here on yelp were from a time when Dr. Baumgarten [pictured in their outdated yelp profile along with Dr. Burke who is no longer there] was at this office. She left sometime in 2022 (or earlier) and they kept her profile on their website until Spring 2023. I was misled to think I was going to a reputable dental practice based on those reviews. This place is a must if you like: 1. ALL of your appointments to be rescheduled and long wait times for when you can actually get in for an appt (avg 25 mins). This office doesn't have dedicated full time dentists, lots of misc dentists get shuffled around to many different offices in the bay area and if you start treatment with one dentist, they won't finish the treatment with another which means you may have to wait a month or so to see the same dentist. This is not convenient at all to the patient. 2. Unethical billing practices. I had a crown replaced and the itemized bill that I had to sign before treatment for my consent had a $500 charge for 'crown insurance'. It was sneaky and something I've never seen in my 40+ years, I questioned it and they removed it. 3. More questionable charges...After the #2 incident I asked for a copy of my previous crown bill to see if I was charged for the same insurance after they said it's standard in their office, I found a $500 charge for 'custom color', why would I need custom color on a molar crown (top of my mouth, in the back where nobody can see it?!) 4. Questionable recommendations of treatment, do I really need another crown and invisalign, did I really need the previous crowns? Or is that just another oppty to bill more? 5. A run down office, this place is outdated, needs painting and other TLC however the lead dentist (Dr. Evangelista) who runs this place and other practices has a brand new maclaren he drives here once a month 6. Constantly changing staff 7. Is there a zero star option?! After spending so much time trying to find a dentist that was in our net work that had good reviews we decided to come here. Apparently the main doctor, Tho, Dr. Bumgardner, left the practice. Apparently when they left so did all the quality and competency along with it. At first the front desk was very nice and lovely and friendly. By the next appointment they had replaced it with this super unfriendly lady who none of the dentist or hygienist liked. She apparently overscheduled and the whole office is currently in chaos. I know this because they were discussing it right in front of me before my services. then the week of Christmas, after needing them to fix my filling that they messed up, they canceled on me. So now I have to go through the holidays with a messed up filling. And they never called my husband back for his referral with their endodontist. He's called four times now. They said he didn't do a mold but the dentist said he had already done a mold and didn't need one. Nobody is communicating with anybody there! We're out! read more

If it weren't for their billing practices, I would be giving them 5 stars. The care I received was EXCELLENT!! However, they are less than honest when it comes to billing! I was told they had contacted and RECEIVED APPROVAL from my insurance company for ALL services prior to the beginning of my treatment and I believed them. I was highly traumatized at the time and had no reason to doubt what I was told. Unfortunately, my insurance company denied a significant portion of the treatment, leaving me to pay an additional $1000. When I called their office they said it was out of their hands and to discuss it with my insurance company. When I received the EOB from my insurance company, it said the reason they denied the claim was because THE DENTAL OFFICE HAD NEGLECTED TO SUBMIT THE REQUESTED PAPERWORK. Whoever I talked to about this was very patronizing and dismissive, which was odd because the first person I communicated with when I set up the appointment and reviewed the subsequent treatment plan and who told me all the procedures had been cleared, was very nice. Again, the care I received was EXCELLENT. Just don't count on them to tell you the truth when it comes to your insurance company. read more
