This is one of the few shuttle companies offering service to and from Muir Woods…read more First and foremost, you cannot beat the price--$4.00 per person round trip. Unbelievable price considering parking at Muir Woods is nearly impossible and requires advanced reservations. My family arrived at Larkspur Landing in Larkspur, CA, as directed when I made our online reservations on gomuirwoods.com Advanced online shuttle reservations are a must. Our reservation was for 200 pm on a Sunday afternoon. Parking in the huge parking lot is free on weekends. We arrived at 130 pm and formed a line as instructed by a very nice male employee sitting in a large, company-like camper. There are port-a-potties here, but no other open restrooms. Shortly after 200, the same male employee from the company camper began scanning for tickets. This same employee provided information on what to expect (8 degrees cooler up in Muir Woods from where we were standing), that the drive would take 30 minutes, etc... Once we boarded the shuttle, the driver came in, and they took a headcount. There were eight empty seats, so he exited the shuttle and invited eight guests standing in line to board. Darn! A packed shuttle :( We were now packed like sardines. It was a warm day, and whatever little cool air was in the shuttle was now gone. It was starting to get warm, very warm inside. Once we took off, it felt as though it was no longer warm but HOT!! The AC was on, a vent on the shuttle roof was open, yet it was very uncomfortable as I began to sweat, and I could see that other guests were wiping sweat from their brows and/or fanning themselves. The ride up takes you along a winding road that goes up and down before you arrive at the entrance to Muir Woods. The driver did a GREAT job and was very professional and friendly. When we exited the shuttle, we were RELIEVED as the cool air hit our faces The return trip was different, as there were only half the riders in the shuttle. The driver did a great job, but the ride was definitely nerve-racking. The shuttle is on the side of the cliffs, and in some areas of the ride back, the driver was kicking up dirt, which means we were very close to the edge. The driver was very experienced, professional, and a great driver, but for someone like me who HATES heights, I was definitely sweating under my windbreaker. Overall, this is a GREAT way to get to Muir Woods without all the drama of trying to drive up and find parking in your own vehicle.

They met the guest with the smile. Told us what to expect. And left promptly at their start time, and brought us back promptly at the return time.

How to Avoid the Clipper Card Minefield…read more Using a Clipper Card is a great way to travel, but you first have to understand their intuitive rules. I bought 2 clipper cards at the the Windsor Smart Train station for my wife and I last year and took the train from Windsor to the Larkfield ferry. Unfortunately you can't buy a senior card at the train kiosk so you have have to pay the full price with no discount. To get a senior card you have to buy it online and wait a few weeks to receive it in the mail. A few months ago, I had about $10 remaining on each card and my wife and I decided to take the Larkfield ferry to S. F. the next day. I went online to check my balance and there was no cash available. So I called the number and I was told " we are experiencing long hold times and there are 38 folks ahead of me". And they mentioned to go online to use self service. I went online and there was no self service options. The online site is useless. Finally I spoke to the rep and was informed that since I didn't use the card for 6 months there was no cash value on the card, but she would add the previous balance back onto the card, and this would take a few days. So, I added $20 to each card online using my Visa card. Unbeknownst to me it takes over a week to add this cash value to the Clipper Card, even though they they charged my Visa immediately. When I got to the Smart Train station there was no cash value on the card so I had to add $20 more to the cards. This really upset me. I had to call the Clipper Card office 5 more times and wait between 14 and 41 calls ahead of me to finally get a promise that they will send me a check. I have been waiting for 2 weeks to get the check and called again only to find out it takes about 1 month to get the check. I'm still waiting. It seems very clear to me that Clipper Card grabs your money immediately and will try anyway it can to keep it. If you want to avoid some of the money pitfalls and phone calls of using a Clipper Card: 1. Purchase your card online 1 month before you intend to use it. 2. Add value to your card at the train or ferry kiosk only for the amount you intend to use that day. 3. Use the cash value quickly.

Hardest part of the trip is walking from the train to the ferry. Otherwise an amazing trip. What I was most impressed with about the ferry other than the views was its on time schedule. Both Saturday and Sunday the ferry arrived right on schedule and left right on schedule. Super impressed.

This one really goes a lot faster than the Sausalito ferry…read more We sat outside going over and the wind was whipping around and it was cold -but beautiful. Very scenic and enjoyable. We sat inside on the ride back which was really pleasant too and a lot warmer. My only complaint is when we got to the ferry at 10AM as the schedule said we were told it was a holiday and they were running on a holiday schedule so we had to wait an hour. We picked up the schedule at customer service and checked for return ride under the holiday/weekend schedule and it said 2pm. When we arrived a sign said 3pm. Really?? Get it together! So the whole outing took a lot longer than expected. Check the schedule carefully if you go -- but go -- it is a lovely ride.

The peeled are great, but they display bottles of spirits for cocktails, but also offer Cutwater. Well, I asked for a Bloody Mary, and the gentleman pulled out a Cutwater can. I asked if they make them themselves. He was response was no. Now, I'm not a mixologist , but if you display a vodka, how hard is it to pour 1 1/2-2 oz of vodka into a glass with ice add some Bloody Mary mix, which they offer as well, and make me a normal Bloody Mary. Then charge you $13 for it. Do Better, Golden Gate Ferry.
