Courtney's Sandcastle Playground: This place is a gem. It's gated (HALLELUJAH), shaded, and inclusive, which means every kid can enjoy it. My littles were obsessed with the pirate ship and musical areas, while my older two found enough to climb, spin, and race on to keep them out of each other's business. Bonus: there's a splash pad section for warmer days, and YES--there are actual bathrooms inside the play area. Moms, you know why that matters. Sports Fields Galore: If you've got kids in sports--or kids who just think they're in the Olympics--this park has huge open fields, soccer goals, and space to sprint until they collapse. We brought a ball, and suddenly everyone forgot they were "too hot" or "too tired" to play. Magic. Walking Trail: There's a nice little loop path, perfect if you've got a stroller crew or you're pretending you're getting your steps in while bribing toddlers with snacks. Aquatics Center Right There: We didn't do the pool this time, but the Aquatics Center is literally steps away. So this spot could easily turn into a full day outing if you're feeling brave (or caffeinated enough). Parking & Setup: Easy parking, tons of grassy space for picnics, and plenty of shade for those of us who are just there to supervise and hand out snacks. Would I go back? In a heartbeat. It's a rare combo of being actually fun for the kids and not a total sensory overload for me. If you're looking for a place that wears your kids out without wearing you down, Vista Hermosa is it.

The staff is especially courteous and does a pristine job keeping the facilities clean and in order. My experience at Montanoso was different than at other gyms because the other members were all so friendly. From…read morebig box chain setups to boutique nooks, they all have their good and bad bits and their place in the picture. Montanoso Rec somehow takes 90% of the best bits and puts them all in one spot. The variety of equipment available is huge. I spend a lot of time in the stretching and movement quality room, which even has a massage table. Their weight and cardio room is stacked with great equipment, including two barbell bench setups and a Smith machine, and they have a separate lifting zone too with an Olympic platform and two squat racks. Outside there are battle ropes and a TRX area, and there's a full group fitness studio to boot. I've seen the negative reviews about the staff, and they couldn't be further from my experience. Everyone has been welcoming and friendly from day one, so if there were any issues then they've been resolved. Similarly the pool, which was completely refurbished a few years ago and is in beautiful shape. Swimming in the late afternoons is my favorite time, as it isn't usually crowded and that's when the sunlight breaks through the trees into the water and everything sparkles. The pool deck is really nice too. The crowd who train here are a good mix of local high school athletes, older folk still putting in work, and a few diehard Ironman competitors. The local fire department drop by to work out sometimes too. It's low on posers, I've never seen anyone videoing themselves or dropping weights. Most people keep themselves to themselves and get their training done. I've heard (not witnessed) a few stories about people being a bit territorial in yoga classes, and occasionally the barbells can get a bit grimy and need a pre-use clean, but I'm nitpicking to find anything bad to say at all. If you want to train properly in MV, this is your spot.

It's a little bit unnerving when you have about 10 people from this business staring at you while you're in the pool every second. When I'm a full grown adult and certified scuba. I understand their rules, but it feels a little bit looming and uncomfortable. They tend to suck the fun out of everything at this pool. No inflatables even if they're small, closing on odd days even if you have a membership. And no nighttime swimming if you want to use the Jacuzzi. Like I said a lot of potential and it seems like a decent place to take kids. But not everybody has kids and would like to enjoy it too, without people yelling about rules every second. I understand that this pool has lifeguards and that's fine, but I think they take their job a little too seriously especially if I'm the only one in the pool. Lol

I rated this beach 4 out of 5 because there's very limited parking and the beach is very small. During peak season or weekends it may be difficult to find parking and the beach area may fill up. Some positive things are, parking is FREE! The restroom and showers are located right at the entrance, and there's a life guard tower. Some highlights were the rose garden, (more rustic than manicured) the lily pond, and bridge.

We visited the Sierra rec center pool on Father's Day, 2026. The lifeguards made the swimming experience very annoying and unpleasant. We had called earlier and the receptionist said they had a water slide. When we arrived, we found 2 lifeguards standing around chatting while no more than 10 people swam in a tiny little cordoned off "rec swim" area while one of the 10 swam laps and essentially had 85% of the gigantic pool to himself. One of the lifeguards (a shorter portly gentleman, dungeons and dragons type) said the slide is closed Sunday because they didn't have the staff to man it...he said this as lifeguard 2 decided to join in our conversation because he had nothing else to do. Then we learn that even if we are with our kids, they can't get in the hot tub....ok. We were there a total of 2 hours and the dungeons and dragons lifeguard came to talk to us 4 times about any number of petty little issues - none of which amounted to safety issues. Then they kicked everyone out 15 minutes early so they could go home. D & D lifeguard said they closed early so people had the chance to "use the showers"...I'm sure it would be a huge deal for these people to have to stay until 5:05-5:10...this place is lame, we will tell everyone we know and we won't be back.
