Alameda is scarce of hotels and I was nervous about staying at Marina Village with the 2 average Yelp stars...but scores are higher on Google, Expedia, and Tripadvisor, and the price was only $114 on a Friday night. I was pleasantly surprised with when I showed up...it must have been remodeled in the past 2-4 years? New ownership? PROs: -Very low prices every time I've looked this place up. -Clean Room and bathroom -Comfortable bed -Fridge, Coffee machine -Friendly staff -Very quiet location CONs: -Smaller room -Sound insolation needs improvement from adjoining room doors: my neighbors woke up really early and started speaking Cantonese(I am Cantonese-Chinese myself), and I can hear their voices at 50-60% decibels. Thankfully they left around 7:00a and I was able to get an extra hour sleep. -Nothing in walking distance -Not for a "romantic getaway" Ignore the old Yelp reviews, focus on the newer ones, and give this place a chance...and make tuck an extra towel underneath the adjoining door. read more

I was coming to spend the weekend in San Francisco, and I found this place. Different review sites were overall favorable, so I decided to give it a shot. Because it's in the east Bay, it's easy to get in and out of, the parking is free, and for a Friday Saturday Sunday night in December, it was less than $100 a night. I booked through hotels.com. There is easy access to San Francisco via Oakland BART, or the Alameda ferry. The prices for Uber and Lyft to get to Bart or the ferry are reasonable. The USS hornet, a World War II aircraft carrier museum is also close by. Check-in was easy, the people were nice. They do put a $100 deposit on your card that goes back after your stay. It's a nice property, right on the water. It is obvious that the place has been renovated. The room was decent sized, there was a shower, not a bathtub, but the entire room, including the bathroom was spotless. The bed was a little bit firm for my personal taste, but I still got a great night's sleep I did not hear any noise from outside the room. The heater kept the room plenty warm.. There is a fridge, but not a microwave, there is a microwave down in the lobby. There is a very comfortable chair in the room, but there is not a desk to work on, but again there are tables, and also a computer station down in the lobby. There are soda and snack machines down in the lobby, but they take cash only, not card or Apple Pay. There was a good sized TV with a decent picture that gets Dish Network, YouTube, and if you have an account, Amazon prime and Netflix. There's also a good number of on-demand movies. They are "B" movies, but there are a lot of them. There are plenty of plugs to charge your gear. Wi-Fi is fast enough to stream video. . There was a Keurig coffee machine, but no creamer or sugar. I don't know if it's available down in the lobby, I didn't ask. There is no breakfast available, but plenty of great places all around the area to get something To eat, or have something delivered. On a recent trip, this was my third and last accommodation and was overall mixed by the experience. This hotel is older but with modern floors and fixtures. It was also very clean. They have multiple free parking lots, many that are nearby rooms for easy unloading and loading. The biggest positive is convenience and view. On Alameda Island, it's a quick drive to the fun hanger area businesses. Also quick to the town area, and a brief drive under the tunnel right to waterfront Oakland. The staff was also super welcoming and nice throughout the stay. The biggest negative was the noise. This is right on the marina, which is a beautiful view. I also loved the little porch area. But at all times of the day and early morning people work on boats with power tools. The way the rooms are laid out also caused a horrible echo with people above who left at an early morning hour and made every loud noise they could. The pool was also closed during my stay. I really liked the nearby walking trail. They have coffee and pastries in the morning in the lobby too. I'd stay here again if there was a guarantee for quiet, which doesn't seem possible. read more

Well, we returned and asked for 2nd floor. The innkeeper said no 2nd floor. Then we took the available 1st floor. We went in and it was a handicap unit with open toilet and open shower. We immediately Went back and asked for switching room. Innkeeper told us the inn was full. it's a Monday without any local special events. We took it anyway. same shit like last time, curtain over the entry door. AC stopped working after dark because the sensor was facing outside. No windows inside. Just make sure you don't take a shower on any of the Ist floor rooms, otherwise the humidity will drive you insane. TV remote didn't work. This time, no place to put any toiletry. No iron or ironing board. The construction crew started at 8am in the morning. Come on. Can I have a partial refund? Not sure we want to return again. read more

Great value for the price. Wanted a place to stay after a show at Yoshi's, so we didn't need a lot of amenities. We didn't want to pay $500 for a "name brand" hotel, and most of the cheaper places sounded downright scary. This is a solid middle ground. The room was good sized, clean, and recently refreshed, with a nice bathroom and comfy bed. We had a balcony looking over the pool deck (pool empty, though) to the docks. Nice view and it was pleasant to be able to sit out there on a warm night. They had coffee and pastries in the lobby in the morning, but it didn't look too appealing. read more

This hotel is fine. It's budget but I never felt unsafe and everything was clean. Sheets were scratchy and I don't think there are any intentions of fixing the pool but the balcony was huge and the views of the marina and bay were great. Forgot to put the do not disturb sign up when we left the room as we didn't need maid services but returned to a perfectly tidied room and mopped floors. read more

The location is convient when I visit my son, and it's inexpensive. The hotel is going through a remodel so the pool was closed and there was construction starting in the morning-didn't appreciate this. Also, the walls a VERY thin so you may want to introduce yourself to your neighbors. read more

Terrible service! Absolute dump! Don't stay here! I arrived at this hotel at about 5:20 p.m on a Thursday night. There was a group of upset women at the front desk trying to reinstate a reservation the hotel had cancelled by mistake. While I waiting for them to finish, a man walked in and said that his room key didn't work. One of the employees announced that she had given him the key to room 210 but was supposed to be in 110. Things were not looking good. Eventually one of the three employees helped me. At first she couldn't find my reservation in the computer. After she did, and announced I would be in room 211 to the entire lobby. When I walked up to the room, the maid said it was still dirty. Keep in mind it was 5:30 p.m. I went back to the lobby and they found me another room and announced out loud I would be in room 201. I asked them not to do that anymore. I walked up to my second room and the key didn't work. Of course... I went back to the lobby and explained my key problem. One of the employees said "I know, our key machine isn't working..." Why they didn't tell me before, I don't know. 20-25 minutes after arriving, one of the employees used a master key to let me into my room. It was a dump... Torn carpeting, rusty lamps, carpet stains, broken clock, damaged furniture, dirty night stands, and an improperly made bed. The last one still befuddles me. The maid tucked a blanket between the bottom sheet and top sheet. Instead of sheet, sheet, blanket, it went sheet, scratchy old blanket, sheet. Kinda gross when you think about it. I booked a room here on Expedia, and when I arrived to check in, I found out they canceled my reservation that morning claiming they couldn't get ahold of me to confirm I was coming. I never got a phone call, voicemail or email from them, and was completely unaware they had cancelled my reservation. They charged me double the price I paid on Expedia and Highway robbed me. So I paid for the rooms. The next day I was given the managers number to try to rectify the situation, and he accused me of not paying for my room and asked me to send money directly to him to pay for it, even though I could see the payment already taken from my account. He was rude, would not listen to me, and kept asking me to pay for the rooms I already paid for after I had already checked out. This is the most horrible experience I've ever had with a hotel. This was hands down the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel. I booked through Travelocity and it was a complete bait and switch. It appeared to be a quaint hotel, but in reality it was filthy and crawling with rats. The rooms do not look anything like their photos and they are filthy. It looks like they haven't dusted the furniture or swept the floors in months. There is mold in the showers and the exterior of the hotel looks like it's going to fall apart. And the walls are paper thin so you will hear EVERYTHING that your neighbors are saying or doing. Oh, and when you are taking a shower expect the water to get ice cold every time someone flushes the toilet in the entire hotel. But by far the most disturbing part of my trip was waking up to the sound of rats. At first I thought the sounds were coming from inside my room, but once I got up the courage to turn on the lights I realized it was coming from inside the walls behind my bed. I suppose that was a little better, however while I laid in bed for several hours listening to the sound of rats chewing through the walls my mind started racing (listen to the attached video). Can they chew through a wall? If they are inside the walls then where else are they? I should have left immediately, but I was there for business and had an early morning meeting and I was tired from traveling all day. By the time I checked out of there and found a new hotel in the middle of the night I would have been a zombie for the meeting that I had come for. So I finally fell back to sleep (with one eye open). The next day I told the manager who didn't really seem to think this was unusual. In fact, this seemed like just a regular day at the Marina Village Inn. I called Travelocity and they were wonderful. They found a nicer hotel in the area and matched the price. Marina Village was supposed to refund my account although they said they would only refund me for the night I didn't stay. Personally, I think they should reimburse me for both nights since I didn't feel safe, didn't sleep well and the entire situation disrupted my business trip. But at this point I was so happy to get out of that place and not catch the bubonic plague that I didn't care. Flash forward almost two weeks and no refund so I called. The front desk person was very unfriendly and seemed irritated that I was inquiring about this refund. Her response was, "I know my manager just did some refunds a couple days ago." When I pressed why it took so long for her to process my refund her reply was, "we've been busy." Probably finding an exterminator. Run from this place!! read more

I stayed there May 13, 2019 and it was the worst! The room had many issues which I reported upon checking out and in two follow up emails. None of which were really responded to & I was made to pay full price! The room had no phone (would have liked to be ableto reach the front desk!) The fridge had standing water inside. The microwave was missing a knob There was a disgusting stain on the side of the chair The screen to the patio door was ripped The bathroom door wouldn't close The shower door handle CAME OFF IN MY HAND! The escape/fire safety plaque that's supposed to live on the door? Missing There's an ice bucket but nowhere is there any info regarding the property or where to find things, like ice, swimming pool hours, etc. This place was beyond gross - I never walked around that room w/out shoes on. Then when I go to report these things I'm told "that room will have to be taken out of service" and "thanks for letting us know". No apology or offer to at least discount. We were booked in to one room, the safe was unusable, the room was filthy, the floor had dirt and debris all over it, had to wear shoes inside. This was a renovated room. We asked for a room change and the next room was worse, disgustingly in disrepair, filthy and smelled like someone had died of a cigarette overdose. We checked out rather than stay in that pit of filth. The pool, which once was sparkly and beautiful, now is empty with debris and garbage in it, and the pool area is similarly filthy. The entire property is so neglected and unmaintained, it's entire facade looks blighted. The shame of this neglect is unbelievable. I have stayed there in the past and have recommended the Inn to family and friends. It was always simple and no frills, but was also clean and well maintained. At this point, it should be shut down by the health department. read more

Too bad zero stars is not an option. Looks can be deceiving. This hotel has three buildings, is in a seemingly quiet area of Alameda next to the marina and Oakland Yacht club. This hotel is in a transitional phase- there are still respectable people staying here (business, vacation, etc.) and then there is another element. I arrived on a Thursday for a three-day business seminar. I had booked four nights. Hoping to avoid the outrageous hotel costs and parking hassles of San Francisco, this looked to be a good option and only a three-mile drive from the Alameda ferry. That being said, this hotel isn't cheap (avg. $200 a night) and you might as well be in the ghettoes of nearby Oakland when they turn it up at night. Things were "relatively" quiet until Saturday night, when a two plus hour screamfest began with several individuals.The first- between a madam and a john in the adjoining room over prices paid for prostitution services rendered. The 40-minute argument began at 11:20 PM while I was in a dead sleep. The voices were so loud, it was as if they were in my room. Threats and screaming ensued, with memorable one-liners like "You want massage, you pay for massage!" and "They were pretty girls but not worth $125 each." Then a new fight between a man and a woman at the hotel escalated from verbal to physical for another 30 minutes. I was sufficiently concerned when I heard slapping sounds and the woman screaming "Stop!" that I called the night manager of the hotel. He told me that the fight "wasn't happening" and that prostituion wasn't happening either, and we could talk about it in the morning. He then hung up on me. I waited five more minutes, called his number again (busy signal) then called Alameda 911 with details of active prostitution and domestic violence incidences occurring at the hotel. Shortly after my call the fight stopped. I had three hours of sleep and a full day of attendance required at the conference the next day. I checked out the next morning and whether due to "miscommunication" or more lying, they have declined to give me a refund for my stay except for the last night when I was not at the hotel. The manager has refused to communicate with me or address the safety concerns at the hotel. I am currently disputing this charge with my credit card company. A great place to stay if you want to be in a lawless environment with criminally-minded individuals. read more

There are several reasons for the 1 star. As another reviewer wrote some of the front desk staff (evening guy) does not really care about the guests and whenever asked about anything, you really feel like he is lying to you. We needed extra pillows, he only had one, needed extra towels, no sorry we have none. First thing next morning, the morning guy, towels, how many would you like? Evening guy, if I want to stay another night what's the best price? You have to talk to manager in the morning at 10am, he's not available until then. An hour later he tells me he talked to manager an gives me a rate $15 more then what the Internet says for the same room. He really does not feel warm and friendly and does not represent this place well at all like the day staff. As for the room, it was like one or two steps at the most above camping. Yes we had indoor plumbing which brought it up those steps, however the room was old, musty smelling. The room was not really that clean, there was dust on top of the TV/Dresser Cabinet, the rugs were in need of being steam cleaned in a very bad way. Overall it looked like that room either had not been used in a while or the housekeeping staff just did not care enough to completely clean the room. There were several items in the room that were in need of repair. The walls in the room had stains on them, the curtains over the windows and door were stained, there were cob webs around the windows above the door, the bed sheets had holes in them, the shower curtains had mold and mildew on them and like I said there were things like in the shower that needed repair. This place has a lot of potential if the owners would take a little pride and put some money into this place. It would not take a lot to fix the place up and bring it up to standards to make it an ICON of Alameda but unfortunately, people pay the price to stay here no matter what kind of BS the evening guy tells you. Overall experience, I do not know how AAA rates this place as 2 stars...if you are handicapped, there is ONLY ONE place to access the property and this if from the front door. From the parking lot to the right of the office, the curb is about 2 feet above the pavement which means you have to step up to get onto the side walk...someone in a wheelchair or walker would NOT be able to access the rooms on that side. So, DISABLED FOLKS, STAY AWAY THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR YOU. I would venture to say even though the room had a little private patio and you can see the marina from the patio, until the owners spend a little money to replace the window curtains, shower curtains, towels and sheets, we will NOT be back to this place again. LASTLY, on the point in the beginning of price fixing, when I explained to the girl that the evening guy lied saying he had to talk to the manager who would not be in until 10:30am the NEXT day and then told me an hour later he talked to the manager and the manager said $104 for the night, I went online and their website said $89 for the same room, her response was "I don't know why he told you that, he could have done that himself". EVERYONE here seems to be nice and caring about the guests EXCEPT this one little guy. This place DOES NOT have a business center, the complimentary breakfast is a VERY BASIC less then I have EVER seen before. I kind of don't want to write a review because I don't want people to find this place and jack the price up. It is basic, but it is clean, quiet, comfortable and friendly with easy and free parking. The view of the boats and the bay was wonderful. The free internet worked. Parks all around provided a nice way to walk around on a nice day. Cell phone reception was good. Anyone expecting a typical American fancy hotel should go elsewhere, but it really reminds me of a small hotel you would find in Europe -- basic but clean. A minimum amount of clean but worn towels are provided. Fairly basic cable TV without any bells and whistles. Good coffee available in the lobby all the time. Friendly folks. Only downsides -- no access to any public transportation. Loved it. Felt safe and happy on a business trip. I would not recommend it for your honeymoon, but I would recommend it for any family member or friend trying to keep their costs down while enjoying their stay in the Bay Area. read more

Booking was quick. Upon arrival the area was extremely nice for the price. Peaceful and very safe (based on surrounding areas) check in was pleasant as personnel was polite, and attentive. Room was 2nd floor, clean, comfortable, spacious, and equipped with extra pillows and towels, that I had requested during booking. I loved that part. Most places don't take the time to do so. I had my own patio area overlooking the yacht club and marina waters. It was nice to lay in the bed watch TV or simply lay ans just view the sight and listen to all the water activity. Most likely will stay here again, as I enjoyed the stay very much. Near many eateries. Close to shopping center, freeway a few min away and far enough from all the traffic and extra noise that disrupt a good night's rest while traveling. Oh almost forgot! Marina Village Inn does not even deserve this one star. I called them over the phone to get a room. I had two options; 1. A waterfront room for $149 2. Queen room for $99. I got the waterfront room. When I walked up to my room it was not waterfront in any regard. I went down to the lobby to see if there was a mistake. The front desk person said no and said we are out of waterfront rooms. I asked why they charged me for a water front room and she said because that is what I asked to have. I then asked for a refund and I was not given one. I had to report a claim against them to the better business Bureau. Horrible hotel, rood staff, old dirty rooms, not kid friendly. My recommendation is to sleep in the streets before giving these crooks any of your money. read more

If I could give you negative stars I would. The hotel would get higher stars if you were expecting a cheap hotel at 75.00 a night but when you are promised marina view and other services and you arrive to a view of a field, that's frustrating. Our first room had a refrigerator about to catch on fire. We were then moved to a room with the marina view with the condition that we would be ok with no cable. We said ok but the air conditioning also did not work and it was a 96 degree day. The next hot day the beautiful pool was also broken and the hotel just did not care. At breakfast the girl came to clean up and took the cereal as I was about to get some and shut the juice machine off on the man who was about to get his juice. Who does that? There are also wall tiles used on the shower floors and the shower leaked and there was black mold on the baseboard. It's good for a 75 dollar a night room but anything more is overpaying. read more

Jack & I just spent almost a week there. We got a decent rate online on their website (a little under 50 per nite) and I got one nite on hotels.com for a sat nite at a little under 70. Very friendly staff. One room was "standard". Door=window. Had bath tub. The other "estuary view" had nice balcony and shower only. It was very quiet. Nice view. For the price and location of this place it is A-OK. With that said I will definitely stay here again. I see potential here. I checked in super late on a Friday night and the lady at the desk was really nice and helpful. Check in was a breeze. So I got in the room and was so delighted that the patio had the most amazing view of downtown Oakland and the marina... Even at night the view is quite nice. Well, after checking out the bathroom I noticed the shower wasn't cleaned and the previous persons shampoo bottles were still in there. I decided to wait till the morning to request for it to be cleaned. Next morning, I called the front desk and the receptionist(a young man) said that he would send housekeeping right away. Sure enough, housekeeping came within 5 minutes. I'm glad that they took care of it and treated it with urgency but I still would have like a nice little sorry from the front desk dude. It was kind of gross but I also understand that sometimes people make mistakes but in the customer service business it is always good to show concern, apologize and make things right. They did make it right though so I'm not going to knock em too much. Other than that the front desk dude was very accommodating and sweet. He allowed me to print our game tickets at his desk and also called us a trusty cheap cab company to head out to the bart... The cab fare was around 10 bucks to 12th street/Oakland City Center station. Other than the bathroom situation, the room was nice. The bed was comfy and the pillows were amazing. I'm a picky pillow person and these were completely up to par with the fluffiness that I look for. Not too fluffy though lol. The parking is easy and you can't beat the view. Not sure what everyone's deal is in the other reviews. I honestly would give the service 5 stars. A young lady and gentleman checked us in last night and they were accommodating, respectful and funny. She promptly greeted us when we came through the door and told us to have a good night on multiple occasions. As for the room, it's not luxury but come on people...you get what you pay for! This isn't a vacation spot, but we were here for a meeting and it gets the job done. No flat screen TVs or anything of the sort but there's a bed, desk, night stands, chairs, refrigerator, enough lamps, microwave and a working bathroom. The bedding was clean & smelled fresh, as did the room. But the bed was super uncomfortable. I gave it three stars because that's what it deserves because of the outdated appliances & popcorn ceilings. But if you are looking for a cheap room in a quiet neighborhood I'd totally stay here again. Breakfast wasn't bad either: bagels, eggs, bacon and juice. read more

Is Marina Village Inn PET FRIENDLY OR NOT?? Before booking here, my boyfriend and I doubled check and closely read their pet policy. Being extra cautious, we called the office itself as the representative we spoke to said, it was okay. As we got to the Inn (holding our 3mth old puppy), the receptionist (a white tall guy smiling like his head is about to pop off) rudely said we couldn't have our dog there. Only service pets were allowed. We informed him that we called the office ahead of time regarding about the pet policy. And word for word he said, "do you have the recording of the conversation on your phone??". WHAT HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! The audacity to say such thing! We left the conversation as that and sat in our car to look for a new place to stay. Unfortunately, it was too late to cancel with the Inn. We returned back to the office and the OWNER was there. He brought up the pet policy and said we were fine. He jokingly said, any pets are allowed as long it is not a wild animal. *Note: We were charged an EXTRA FEE for an extra "guest" for our dog. Unfortunately, we did not catch this until we left. Due to the owner and BEAUTIFUL room and bathroom, it deserved at least a star some recognition. read more

I am marking my two year anniversary at the MVI, longer than I have ever stayed at one hotel. We have new management now, and it appears the new owners are investing in some much needed maintenance, looking forward to the new door lock system (as is the staff). The quiet and the great views are still here, some new staff, some new systems and I continue to make this my weekly "go-to" place. It's great to be able to get a good night's sleep. As you're driving through Alameda, you get to a business park type area. Your GPS tells you to turn, and being the obedient little drone that you are, you try not to ask too many questions. As you drive through, directly in front of you is the Oakland Yacht Club and the marina is just beyond. To the right of the Club is the Marina Village Inn. It is smaller and older than you might expect, but it's exactly what you should be looking for. The front desk staff is very friendly. You check in, receive your keys, and your free wifi password. As you look around the lobby, you see where you'll stop by in the morning for your free coffee and pastries. There's also a TV there, should be incline to watch it. Straight through the lobby is the pool that overlooks the marina. You almost feel as though you stepped in to an episode of Dexter, but you don't see any plastic sheeting around, so you get to relax a bit as you head off to find your room. Most of the room doors face outward (like a motel), but there is at least one hallway (maybe two?) that leads to other rooms. Since you booked ahead at hotels.com, you were able to upgrade to the "view" room, and so you head down a hallway to find your room. As you walk it you notice that it's older, but clean, and the bed (or at least the duvet) is really lumpy. The sheets, towels, and everything appear nice and in order. Bath & Body Works soaps and shampoos, coffee and pot for the morning, a microwave and a fridge, plus a working TV with cable. Not so bad. The walls are thinner, and the place could probably use an update. However, for the price, it's worth it. I paid $90 for the 'upgraded' room during the week, and $104 on a Sunday for the non-view room. This is a pretty good deal for the area. It makes a short commute to Oakland (the reason I was in the area to begin with), and it's easily accessible from the highway. No complaints, it absolutely just is what it is. read more

we stay here 1-2 x a year to go to the Alameda Antique Faire. it's never been super clean, ie real water glass with someone's lip stick on it ( not mine or my husbands.. kidding) but this visit it was especially poor in cleanliness; floors with spilled things, dirt, dead bugs. stained sheets, dirty microwave, black mold in room 108. we always book in advance, ask for rooms facing harbor upper rooms( 2 story) a month in advance, confirmed our room location and they gave our room to someone else. We still got the harbor, but reservations don't seem to mean much. it's an adventure, right? Take the leap or keep looking....$120.00 a night so your call read more
