I leave long reviews, so I apologize in advance! We had a room booked for 2 queen sized beds since there were supposed to be 4 of us. The week before our stay, a 5th person who had previously said they weren't coming, decided to come. Expected to stay with us of course since they didn't want to pay for their own room. (Gotta love family. ) I called the hotel & explained what was happening & asked if we could get a cot or something so no one had to sleep on the floor. She put me on hold for a brief minute & then told me she was able to upgrade us to a room that had a couch that folded out to a bed. Then told me there'd be no extra charge. I was so grateful! When we checked in & got to the room, the sofa was in a small area with a wall, so you couldn't see the actual bedroom from the front door or sofa area. We saw there was an extra pillow in the closet, but no bedding there. When I told my daughter I was going to go to the lobby & get bedding, she suggested I fold it out first to see if it was made up. Sure enough, all made up with sheets & a blanket. Again, so appreciated! Very clean room, beds were comfortable, basic amenities provided, including a small fridge & coffee maker. Coffee, tea, creamers, and sugars provided. Hair dryer, ironing supplies also in the room with a nice sized closet/hangers. We didn't need them, but I like to include what was provided to help anyone reading this that may. This will be our go to hotel when in this area again. Lit parking lot & a person at the desk 24/7. Which was also appreciated since our uber was coming at 3AM to get us to the airport. Complimentary breakfast. Our daughter said it was "decent", but my husband & I were gone by the time it opened. coffee & tea available in a nice sized lobby 24/7. very much appreciated thing since we were leaving at 3AM! Vending machines also available with sodas, juices & water. (Pricey, but at least available!) pricing was good as well. read more

It was also an easy drive from Rockridge (where we had dinner) and conveniently located right on Webster. Negatives - None +/- - Check in was a little slow due to a short line and a lot of chatter ahead of me. - Just OK shower pressure with long water warm-up. Positives - Convenient Parking in what seemed like a safe neighborhood. - Decent free hot breakfast. - Clean and comfortable room, with separate sleeping and Livingroom areas. read more

Checking in wasn't the fastest but it was fine. Parking lot available for convenience. Room was nice, very comfy king bed, separate lounge area with a sofa (2 TV's total), clean bathroom, mini fridge and microwave, working temperature control (heater and AC). Also, 12pm checkout, always a plus for me. Insulation is terrible, whether it's conversations, the banging and vibrations of "stomping" coming from the ceilings, or what sounds like pipes and running water from other rooms or behind the walls, you can hear it all. But otherwise, a great hotel stay that met all our needs. read more

Alameda's selection of lodging is rather limited, and this is probably the best place to stay in town. $450 for 3 nights during the weekday was reasonable. PROS: -Large spacious and meticulously clean room and bathroom. -Free Parking!!! -Very quite room facing the parking rather than the main road. -Friendly staff...we loved Rose! -Walking distance to restaurants and shops. -Reasonably priced vending machines. CONS: -No hot breakfast during Covid...the prepacked breakfast of a fruit, plastic wrapped danish, and juice was terrible... We opted to go out to breakfast each day. Comfy bed and spacious rooms, this hotel impressed us with the value and cleanliness. The rooms are showing a bit of age in decor and the grounds as well, but for the price it is to be expected. We both really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast which consisted of sausage, eggs, breads/pastries/bagels, cereal and yogurt. Apparently there's light dinner on Wednesday's, which would be nice to experience. Location is perfect, as we walked to the farmers market, coffee, dim sum, and late night drunchies at Nations (arguably the best burger in the Bay). Room comes with a minifridge, microwave, and wet bar sink. Only cons were the Webster-side can get a bit loud with firetrucks and the traffic at the intersection, but nothing too crazy and wasn't a big deal to us, but I would request the opposite side facing the parking lot for light sleepers. I also wish there was a filtered water station to fill our water bottles, as they only have a regular water fountain. Also our toilet seat was a bit wobbly. We were allowed late check out, which we appreciated as well as the overall friendliness of the staff. read more

I stayed at this hotel because it was one of the few in Alameda. It's very minimal with a small gym and a hot tub. The queen suite I stayed in was spacious. It had all the regular hotel features and in addition a couch, two TVs, microwave, fridge, and a kitchen sink. The highlight of the hotel really is the staff. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. There was also a complimentary breakfast every morning. I believe this ran 6:30-9:30 on the weekday and 7-10 on the weekend. I didn't take advantage of this, but I believe there's also a complimentary dinner on Wednesday nights! Parking is free which is great given that the street parking is quite scarce. For those wanting to go over to San Francisco, the drive will take you about 20 minutes (expect to pay Uber around $20-30 dollars). read more

Took a weekend trip to Oakland to watch a Golden State Warriors game! This hotel was the perfect spot! Only 15 mins from Oakland Airport and the airport car rental. About 10 mins from Oracle arena and if you follow the google maps, it will take you through the roads to Oracle Arena so you won't get stuck in traffic trying to get to the game. It's also a great spot for leaving the game too cause you can go the opposite direction of the freeway and take the streets back to the hotel. A couple of gas stations near by the hotel and fast food and personal owned restaurants! Neighborhood doesn't seem bad and their free breakfast is better than most! It's not just bagels and cereal. Staff was always polite and very helpful! The night lady even helped me print my boarding pass from her work printer cause the printer for guest was not working! My sister had surgery in the East Bay which required an overnight stay. We chose to stay in Alameda, and rented a room at the Hawthorn Suites. I reserved the room directly via their website http://www.oaklandhs.com/ and was quoted $149.95, but when we checked out we were only charged $113.95. Upon arrival we were not greeted, but instead I had to say "good evening" to the young woman "working" at the counter. The young woman did not seem very interested in her job. I gave her my last name, spelling it out, and told her I had reservations to which she responded rudely "I don't have a reservation for you," then she asked where I made the reservations, I told her I made them online directly from the hotels website. The young woman let out a heavy sigh, rolled her eyes and asked me how to spell my last name, then once again stated there was no reservation in my name. I asked her if she wanted my confirmation number, she responded "that would be nice" - now let me be clear, she was not being courteous, she was speaking rudely and with a "f - you" attitude. Upon giving her my confirmation number AND the printed out reciept from the Internet, she let out a few huffs and puffs, then looked again, stating I was at the wrong hotel. I asked her to look at the paper again, as I was at the correct hotel, she then looked at a small pile of papers next to her computer and said "here it is under the name of Lynnette and Adrianne with no last name," then asked my last name, even though she had it right there ON the paper I gave her, and I had already given it to her twice before. There were no other guests present. After twenty minutes of this we were checked in. The young lady told us that a complimentary full breakfast was served between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. (it was actually served at 6:00 a.m.) and that check out time was 11:00 a.m (it was actually NOON) Our room was very nice, clean, and smelled fresh. There was a "living" area with a sleeper sofa, a chair, coffee table, fan, television and small desk/table, the bathroom was large, and very clean stocked well, including a hair dryer, there was a microwave, small fridge with a freezer, a coffee maker and a little sink with cabinets, the sleeping area had two very comfortable queen sized beds (NOT FULL, QUEEN) a television, a night stand, and drawers, actually there were drawers in the living area as well, the closet was large, there was an iron and ironing board. For being on a busy street, and a Friday night I was thankful we had a room on the parking lot side of the hotel. We could see children playing in the street, and having a good time. After freshining up, we went out for a few hours. Upon returning, we watched some television, and I did some work on the computer. They offer free wireless internet for guests which is terrific, of course it's not a secure network, so if you don't have a GOOD virus protector I don't suggest using it. We did not hear any other guests, but around 10:00 p.m. could faintly hear the television in the room next door. We received a few phone calls while there, and one person told us that they advised the woman answering the phone that they were a family member and needed to know our room number ... the woman GAVE it to them!! This is something that is unsafe, and illegal to do. I immediately phoned down to the front desk to report this incident, the young lady (same one who checked us in) said "well, she told me her daughters where staying her and she needed the room number" when I asked for a supervisor she told me there wasn't one. Another person phoned after that and was told our room was not accepting any phone calls!! Around 11:00 p.m. my sister was feeling nauseated, and called to ask if it was possible to get a glass of milk, she was told no. Now this is something I know IS available, they serve breakfast.I have stayed at Hawthorn Suites elsewhere with my sister (who has stomach problems) and we were given a glass of milk in the past as long as we went to the front desk to get it - free of charge, and of course we tipped. Apparently this young lady has not been with the company long. The breakfast was HORRIBLE, with the exception of the yogurt, ice cold milk, coffee and orange juice. They served what looked, smelled and tasted like cold powdered scrambled eggs, cold potatoes which tasted like cardboard smells, hard "french toast," a selection of instant oatmeal, two dry cereals, some not so good looking pastry, bread for toasting and yogurt. Check out was easy, and done by an even less friendlier front desk clerk then the one we dealt with checking in. I did fill out a comment card, and hope this company trains their front desk clerks to be more friendly. Maybe my expectations are too high with family members in the hotel and restaurant business. read more

What an amazing place to stay. We had to stay in the Bay Area to see a sick family member. The ratings on a lot of Bay Area lodging isn't too good. So we settled for this place based on the ratings. We were not disappointed. Not only does it look great on the outside. It is clean on the inside. The room was amazing and clean as well. Very spacious and as well a spacious bathroom. The location is close to many great places to eat. Alameda is a gem of a town. You're close to so many great Bay Area attractions. I almost forgot to mention the bed. We slept like babies on it. The pillows were luxurious and fluffy. Needles to say we will be staying here again for our anniversary. Great job! read more

I enjoyed my stay at this location. This was booked through work and I stayed 28 days. The housekeeping staff were super nice and accommodating. A lot of the housekeeping staff we're not fluent in English, but I used my phone to help translate. There is hot breakfast every morning and they rotate every four days. The gym had more equipment than I've seen in other gyms. It included an elliptical, a treadmill, an an machine, free weights and bench, and a stretch apparatus. There is coin-operated laundry machines on site, however there was only one washer and one dryer. I didn't have any issues using, but two of my coworkers had issues with the machine eating their quarters. The hotel offers complementary soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes if you forget yours. You just have to go downstairs and ask for it. They also have corkscrews for wine, you just have to ask at the front desk. The staff was very professional and I loved being greeted daily by the front desk, the breakfast lady, and the housekeeping crew. It's close to quite a few restaurants and bars so you can walk to them quickly. I would visit again. I'm so impressed with my visit. read more

when an emergency occured with our friend's alameda apartment and he had to vacate immediately, hawthorn suites was there to help. they got him a nice room, breakfast in the morning and a safe place to wait until his apartment was cleaned and ready for him to return. everyone we worked with was curtious, kind, patient and helpful. after a couple of days he was able to move into the ada room which was so wonderful for our friend. he is disabled and it gave him more independence than he has has gotten used to at his existing apartment. a real relief for us, his friends and support team, as well as him. when he first got settled he said it was like he was having a palm springs vacation. you all are awesome and a total lifesaver. read more

This is one comfortable hotel room and a really nice hotel. The rooms are very spacious and very clean. The room is separated into two parts. There is a small living room/area with a desk, couch and TV. The other half is the sleeping area with the beds and bathroom. The property is centrally located and is surrounded by places to eat and shop. The hotel offers a free breakfast downstairs. If I ever stay in the City of Alameda again I will make sure to stay here. read more

Hotel had typical shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. Unfortunately the blow dryer didn't work. I have very long hair. When I told the front desk, she said " Oh you should have told us" WTH do you think I'm doing?! She proceeded to tell me my hair looked fine. NOT helping me Lady! I need DRY hair, not your opinion of my soaking wet hair. No offer to fix or replace or use another one.... Bad service is the reason for this bad review. read more

Stayed at this hotel due to temporarily misplacing my keys after a night of celebrating in the city for my birthday. Myself and two friends checked in to a suite around 4:00am and left around 11:00 the next morning when my keys were returned to me. We noticed a $150 charge wasn't taken off the bank account. When we called to inquire about the fee they front desk advised us that the charge was for smoking in the room. Since none of us smoke, we tried to escalate the issue to the GM multiple times with no response. We left 2 voicemails, I went up there in person and she finally responded when I sent her an email documenting my attempts. In short, our hotel stay was pleasant. The room was clean and the front desk staff was courteous. However, I'm giving them a 2 star for customer service. The professionalism of the General Manager, Selma Becirovic was less than par. She was very unresponsive and accused us of lying on her staff, then assured us that there was no other person to escalate the issue to. If you stay here make sure you aren't near rooms that have smokers or else you may be held accountable! read more

I don't enjoy writing negative reviews, but I feel I have to here. The actual stay at Hawthorne Suites may end up proving to be perfectly acceptable (we'll see), but dealing with the reservations staff and management here has been a complete and utter NIGHTMARE. Our family is coming to town this Christmas and we need a room for them. This past September, Hawthorne Suites was running a special where stays of 5 days or more would qualify for the weekend rate. Happy with this, we booked for December 24-29. A few weeks later, around *September* 24, we saw a charge on our card for a no-show. It turns out Hawthorne had entered our reservation information incorrectly. (Odd because we made the reservation after an in-person visit where we extensively discussed the fact that it was for a family Christmas visit.) We called the hotel to straighten things out. We were referred to the manager's voicemail. No one returned our call. We followed up about a week later. No one returned our call. We sent an email a third time. Ditto. Finally, we notified the hotel that we were disputing our credit card charge. Miraculously, they got right back to us and promised to fix the reservation. Only weeks later, after looking through a copy of our new reservation, did we learn that they had rebooked us at a higher rate (not the promotional one we had booked previously)! So we had to call yet again to straighten it out. The front desk clerk put me on hold, then told me that she had no record of this promotional rate and that once again I would have to speak with the manager. She transferred me. But of course, I got the manager's voicemail. I called right back. Again put on hold, this time for a while. Then the clerk told me that because she had been the one responsible for booking the room, it was simply not true that we had ever been given a discounted rate. Essentially, she suggested that I was lying to her. I reminded her about our prior reservation, and she suggested I was now changing my story. No, you are not listening! Finally, I had to call my wife and conference her into the call (as she had made the initial reservation). She explained just what I explained to the clerk. Perhaps the clerk was listening more attentively, because this time, she found evidence of the prior reservation at the discounted rate. Throughout this entire process, the clerk never apologized or acknowledged her error. I am sticking with this reservation because it is days before Christmas, this is the most convenient hotel to us, and otherwise this place seems to get good reviews. But this has easily been my worst experience dealing with a hotel's front desk. read more

Ruined our reservation on my wedding weekend. Guests didn't have a room and had to store luggage at the front desk. We called to get it resolved and the squirrelly front desk guy hung up on us and our representative. We will fight this and we will fight hard. How dare you mistreat and disrespect my family on the weekend of my wedding when we made these reservations THREE MONTHS in advanced!!!!!!!! Having a bed to sleep in and a place for luggage shouldn't have been an issue. It was taken care of. Who screens calls and hangs up on their customers????? He said manager wouldn't call until after July 1 and told my husband to screw himself essentially. We called 3 times to make sure our rooms were set for my family. Had everything in place. He told us last minute reservations took priority over ours. Bull. Awful treatment by this hotel and stranded my family visiting from 2000 miles away for our wedding. Of course they finger pointed because we were angry. Who wouldn't be? We have record of every call to make sure everything was in place and it was completely ruined from the moment our guests arrived. The friendly gal who is the night desk person took care and time to put it into place and there was no oversight. She even said she couldn't believe how bad it was messed up by people on day shift. She tried very hard to fix it but she'd do some fixing and everyone during the day would mess it up again and our family ended up shuffling room to room while taking part in a wedding weekend. Maybe management should get a little bit more involved and provide some training to their staff instead of calling Hotels.com from vacation and blaming the customer for their hotel's mistake. read more

I love Alameda's restaurants and bars, but live about 30-45 minutes away, so someone always ends up playing designated driver on the way home unless we wanna pay for BART and cabs, which adds up fast. So for my BFF's birthday, I decided to treat to a hotel for the night so we didn't have to worry about it. This Hawthorn Suites is in a nice location, not as much going on as downtown on Park St., but still a variety of places to walk to, including Yokohama, where we had sushi. Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge is about a mile away, so we did take Uber there and back. The hotel is nice, opted for this one over a more motel-ish one near downtown and others further away by the airport. Staff were fine, not overly friendly, but fine. Suite was nice. Did find at least one pubic-looking hair on the bed, but scooped it up with a tissue and got over it. Clean otherwise. Didn't use the shower since we were just there for the night. It's nice to have a mini fridge, and I believe there was a microwave too. Noise level was fine, didn't hear much in the halls, maybe housekeeping in the morning, but it helps that the TV/couch/sitting area is sort of separate from the bed area, so you're not right next to the door. We did go down for breakfast around 9:30, and there was still plenty to eat, and lots of people. Breakfast was fine, nothing to brag about, but nice to have the option. It was also suffocatingly hot/stuffy in the lobby/dining area, we were so relieved when we got back in the cool elevator. The room did get a bit stuffy during the night, so was up and down a few times to knock down the A/C temp a little (this was in April, not summer, btw), but we were also probably hot from burning up all those sugary tropical drinks all night long. I like that check out time is at noon, and that parking and wifi are free. All-in-all, not a bad spot to stay. read more

Hotel is nice and affordable, we had the king suite and the room was nice but the walls are thin, the elevator is noisy and you can hear the neighbors shower. The major drawback to this hotel is not with the property itself but it's location right across the street from the fire station, so every time the fire trucks pull out you hear the sirens. Staff is very nice, and the breakfast was better than expected with Eggs, Bacon, Potatoes and other traditional breakfast foods. So it's a good value for the money if you don't mind the sirens. The property has no pool just a very small spa so I would not recommend it for families with kids that want to swim. read more

Both people loved the location and the service! They were also complimentary of the cleanliness and updated rooms. They both complained about the beds. It's unfortunate. I stay here for business at least 3 times a year and always have a great stay. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The breakfast is ok, and there are plenty of eateries for dinner and lunch. The room are clean and well maintained. The only real drawback would be that the BART is not within walking distance, but other than that, great place to stay. read more

I would recommend this hotel. I was in Alameda on business for a couple of days, and Hawthorne Suites was close to the venue on Alameda Point. It was convenient to get the breakfast (included) right down the hall. We didn't have to spend time going to a restaurant, and it's a buffet. I stayed here for a month and I loved it, I can still smell the delicious breakfast cooked every morning. The room is very comfortable, having your own mini kitchen and a great cleaning service. It felt like I never made a mess in the first place! the Manager of the Hotel was a really really great guy, nice and very understanding towards his customers. I stayed here because I went to college of Alameda for a summer. and The Mini Business center in the lobby was functional enough for me to print my work. the facilities in Swimming pool, function room and laundry room were all satisfactory.
