    Complimentary Breakfast

I stayed at this hotel because it was one of the few in Alameda. It's very minimal with a small gym and a hot tub. The queen suite I stayed in was spacious. It had all the regular hotel features and in addition a couch, two TVs, microwave, fridge, and a kitchen sink. The highlight of the hotel really is the staff. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. There was also a complimentary breakfast every morning. I believe this ran 6:30-9:30 on the weekday and 7-10 on the weekend. I didn't take advantage of this, but I believe there's also a complimentary dinner on Wednesday nights! Parking is free which is great given that the street parking is quite scarce. For those wanting to go over to San Francisco, the drive will take you about 20 minutes (expect to pay Uber around $20-30 dollars).

Ok not what was expecting. However, the customer service was great and that's what kept me here. They were very helpful I had a problem with my reservation and they did all they could to resolve it. I like that. OK room size 2 TVs sofa bed. The view sucks alot. 3 floors and smells old. I used pillow mist and candles. Fridge and microwave.

Took a weekend trip to Oakland to watch a Golden State Warriors game! This hotel was the perfect spot! Only 15 mins from Oakland Airport and the airport car rental. About 10 mins from Oracle arena and if you follow the google maps, it will take you through the roads to Oracle Arena so you won't get stuck in traffic trying to get to the game. It's also a great spot for leaving the game too cause you can go the opposite direction of the freeway and take the streets back to the hotel. A couple of gas stations near by the hotel and fast food and personal owned restaurants! Neighborhood doesn't seem bad and their free breakfast is better than most! It's not just bagels and cereal. Staff was always polite and very helpful! The night lady even helped me print my boarding pass from her work printer cause the printer for guest was not working! Definitely recommend this hotel for weekend trips!

Comfortable hotel. We had a nice little suite with a separate living area from the bedroom. Comfy bed and pillows. Convenient location in Alameda. There's a little breakfast area by the front desk so you can grab a bite to eat in the morning. Our room also had a little fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Good size bathroom. Two TVs and an ironing board in the suite, too.

My sister had surgery in the East Bay which required an overnight stay. We chose to stay in Alameda, and rented a room at the Hawthorn Suites. I reserved the room directly via their website http://www.oaklandhs.com/ and was quoted $149.95, but when we checked out we were only charged $113.95. Upon arrival we were not greeted, but instead I had to say "good evening" to the young woman "working" at the counter. The young woman did not seem very interested in her job. I gave her my last name, spelling it out, and told her I had reservations to which she responded rudely "I don't have a reservation for you," then she asked where I made the reservations, I told her I made them online directly from the hotels website. The young woman let out a heavy sigh, rolled her eyes and asked me how to spell my last name, then once again stated there was no reservation in my name. I asked her if she wanted my confirmation number, she responded "that would be nice" - now let me be clear, she was not being courteous, she was speaking rudely and with a "f - you" attitude. Upon giving her my confirmation number AND the printed out reciept from the Internet, she let out a few huffs and puffs, then looked again, stating I was at the wrong hotel. I asked her to look at the paper again, as I was at the correct hotel, she then looked at a small pile of papers next to her computer and said "here it is under the name of Lynnette and Adrianne with no last name," then asked my last name, even though she had it right there ON the paper I gave her, and I had already given it to her twice before. There were no other guests present. After twenty minutes of this we were checked in. The young lady told us that a complimentary full breakfast was served between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. (it was actually served at 6:00 a.m.) and that check out time was 11:00 a.m (it was actually NOON) Our room was very nice, clean, and smelled fresh. There was a "living" area with a sleeper sofa, a chair, coffee table, fan, television and small desk/table, the bathroom was large, and very clean stocked well, including a hair dryer, there was a microwave, small fridge with a freezer, a coffee maker and a little sink with cabinets, the sleeping area had two very comfortable queen sized beds (NOT FULL, QUEEN) a television, a night stand, and drawers, actually there were drawers in the living area as well, the closet was large, there was an iron and ironing board. For being on a busy street, and a Friday night I was thankful we had a room on the parking lot side of the hotel. We could see children playing in the street, and having a good time. After freshining up, we went out for a few hours. Upon returning, we watched some television, and I did some work on the computer. They offer free wireless internet for guests which is terrific, of course it's not a secure network, so if you don't have a GOOD virus protector I don't suggest using it. We did not hear any other guests, but around 10:00 p.m. could faintly hear the television in the room next door. We received a few phone calls while there, and one person told us that they advised the woman answering the phone that they were a family member and needed to know our room number ... the woman GAVE it to them!! This is something that is unsafe, and illegal to do. I immediately phoned down to the front desk to report this incident, the young lady (same one who checked us in) said "well, she told me her daughters where staying her and she needed the room number" when I asked for a supervisor she told me there wasn't one. Another person phoned after that and was told our room was not accepting any phone calls!! Around 11:00 p.m. my sister was feeling nauseated, and called to ask if it was possible to get a glass of milk, she was told no. Now this is something I know IS available, they serve breakfast.I have stayed at Hawthorn Suites elsewhere with my sister (who has stomach problems) and we were given a glass of milk in the past as long as we went to the front desk to get it - free of charge, and of course we tipped. Apparently this young lady has not been with the company long. The breakfast was HORRIBLE, with the exception of the yogurt, ice cold milk, coffee and orange juice. They served what looked, smelled and tasted like cold powdered scrambled eggs, cold potatoes which tasted like cardboard smells, hard "french toast," a selection of instant oatmeal, two dry cereals, some not so good looking pastry, bread for toasting and yogurt. Check out was easy, and done by an even less friendlier front desk clerk then the one we dealt with checking in. I did fill out a comment card, and hope this company trains their front desk clerks to be more friendly. Maybe my expectations are too high with family members in the hotel and restaurant business.

I stayed at this hotel for a few months and during this time Ms. Munoz made it a very uncomfortable stay. On multiple occasions Ms. Munoz refused to assist me but would happily assist anyone else right in front of me. On our last encounter I was downstairs requesting for my room key to be fixed, she took my keys away from me and refused to return them even after I told her I had medication to take. She further threatened to call cops on me for "disturbance" even though I was very respectful and civil the whole time and have videos to prove it. She then went further and called my landlord who is the one that booked the place for me and told my landlord I was downstairs acting crazy and being an issue. When I asked her why is she acting like this towards me she replied "because I'm the manager and I didn't add your name on the list for approved stay". Due to her lies and deformation I am not at risk of my landlord evicting me. All of this done for what ? If not discrimination and racism what else could it be ? I reached out to corporate and still await a response because Ms. Munoz need to be held accountable. If you are planing to stay here just be wary of Dora Munoz because with her it's her way or the highway.

Because it's in the east Bay, it's easy to get in and out of, the parking is free, and for a Friday Saturday Sunday night in December, it was less than $100 a night. I booked through hotels.com. There is easy access to San Francisco via Oakland BART, or the Alameda ferry. The prices for Uber and Lyft to get to Bart or the ferry are reasonable. The USS hornet, a World War II aircraft carrier museum is also close by. Check-in was easy, the people were nice. They do put a $100 deposit on your card that goes back after your stay. It's a nice property, right on the water. It is obvious that the place has been renovated. The room was decent sized, there was a shower, not a bathtub, but the entire room, including the bathroom was spotless. The bed was a little bit firm for my personal taste, but I still got a great night's sleep I did not hear any noise from outside the room. The heater kept the room plenty warm.. There is a fridge, but not a microwave, there is a microwave down in the lobby. There is a very comfortable chair in the room, but there is not a desk to work on, but again there are tables, and also a computer station down in the lobby. There are soda and snack machines down in the lobby, but they take cash only, not card or Apple Pay. There was a good sized TV with a decent picture that gets Dish Network, YouTube, and if you have an account, Amazon prime and Netflix. There's also a good number of on-demand movies. They are "B" movies, but there are a lot of them. There are plenty of plugs to charge your gear. Wi-Fi is fast enough to stream video. . There was a Keurig coffee machine, but no creamer or sugar. I don't know if it's available down in the lobby, I didn't ask. There is no breakfast available, but plenty of great places all around the area to get something To eat, or have something delivered. When I stay here again? In a heartbeat! Thank you.

Cons: No USB ports in the room?! Hotel is fairly close to the sketchy side of town (homeless camp 200 ft from hotel). No cold bottled water for rewards members, no pool, no airport shuttle, carpeting instead of laminate flooring, paid parking, our thermostat was really glitchy and would not work. Added benefit: your hotel key gains you access to the Executive Inn and Suites next door. There you will find a small pool/hot tub. There's also a small bar that opens at 5pm (happy hour 5:30-7:30) and you can order food as well. I also had a mobile massage from my CMT and later that night, enjoyed a nice bubble bath in the tub! The only thing missing in my room was a usb outlet on the bedside table. The outlet was on the desk so you could plug in your cube or charger. It was pretty cheap, plenty of parking in their private lot, and I liked that there was a kitchenette in our room and you could borrow pots and pans from the front desk. We really only needed the room to sleep so it wasn't absolutely horrible. However, it's severely outdated. The floors a very uneven and need redone, the balcony patio we had I wouldn't let my kids out on because the railing would have probably collapsed if you put weight against it. The patio lock was also extremely outdated and worn (it was a screw one but the thing was so worn it wouldn't have taken much for someone to break in). The internet was also not great, which led to a lot of frustration for our kids and we ended up just using our hotspot. It was clean but also extremely musty smelling. There wasn't mold or dirt everywhere but it definitely needs an overhaul and a lot of TLC from redoing the floors, to updating everything. Would I stay here again? Yes if we had to. Since it is cheap and we don't use our room when we go places for more than a place to sleep I wouldn't be opposed, but I'd also try to find somewhere better before I made a reservation here again. There were people screaming and shouting in the courtyard all day and all night and kids crying. The decor is old outdated and half of it is missing.. literally picture hangers on the wall with no pictures. Knobs missing on cabinets, light bulbs out or lamps broken and not working, closet doors off the track, mysterious crusty things on the walls. The deck facing the water is decaying and possibly unsafe in the room we were in. The oven was disgusting. The linens looked clean, but the mattress was stained with brown who-knows- what, as well as the mattress pads. (I got a different room after finding that). Mattress was better in the second room, at least it didn't smell like dogs and cigarette smoke like the other room, but it was pretty awful. There was a broken lamp shade and a shattered small window in the kitchen. The coffee pot didn't work, dirty carpets, dirty furniture, ripped curtains, Very loud. I tried to get my money back through Booking.com and they would not do it. The front desk would not refund me either because I had a nonrefundable reservation. And I couldn't afford to throw away almost $300 and go stay in another spot so I decided to endure it. I switched my room on my third night because of the noise in the courtyard and got an upper level facing the street. There, the curtains were too short to close across the large front window and I could hear mice or rats scuffling around in the ceiling fan that didn't have a vent on it. It was cold that night and the heater did not work. I used to come here a long time ago because I grew up in this town, and it was pretty bad then, (but still the most affordable option and close to the beach) and it has went way way downhill since then. To make matters even worse, I left one of my favorite zipper hoodies behind in one of the rooms and the housekeeping department did not turn it in. My advice, do everything you can to stay away from this creepy and crawly motel. Stay at Hampton Inn and pay more .

It's an ok place to stay as I haven't had issues the 4 times I stayed here during my Bay Area Trips…read moreeven though my trip from September 2025 had me in a room with no Air Conditioning. But as long as you got a plug in fan, you're all set. Overall, I give this place 3 stars as it isn't fancy but it's affordable. I will recommend this place to those who are staying for a few days and don't wanna spend too much on a brand name hotel, but I do NOT recommend staying here if you cannot deal with the train horns all day and all night.

I struggled to make this reservation. I tried to change my reservation on Friday with my computer,…read morebut I couldnt see the modify reservation button. On Saturday, the day of my check-in I was tired so I tried to change it on my App to check in on Sunday instead. App showed that it was too late to modify. I called the hotel and Savannah gave me the real deal. If I don't make check in on the first day, I would lose the entire reservation. Now I don't know why I reserved a day in advance of the show, but here I am frantically getting ready and packing to make the last train into Jack London Square. And because of this, I arrived at 10:30 pm into Oakland. Now don't cry for me Argentina, I did alright walking at night to my hotel. Well because of my lateness, I paid the price and ended up getting what was left as far as hotel rooms. What I got was a room with no heater, no A/C, and no windows that could be open. My immediate thought, "Oh this is going to be one helluva Yelp review." Here's a tip, never ever get room 412. It's an ADA compliant room but it's really an uncomfortable and inconvenient room. The room had two portable box fans which i used one. Something was off with this room aside what I mentioned above. The room was kinda dark, the bathroom had one electrical outlet and the outlet was located on the light switch, and that light switch was next to the toilet. Yah, how in tha? The light switch had an off, auto, on feature and when I turned it on Auto, the light began to flicker after being still like I was in some type of horror movie. Well that defeats the purpose. Next I decided to take a picture of the box fan and when I looked at the picture, see pic below, you'll notice all these circles. What is that? Orbs? Spirits? I cleaned the back of my phone so what the heck is that? My ancestors? I began to look around and I noticed I was lacking the basics. Basics like a washcloth, a hand towel, hangers, I didn't even have a "Do Not Disturb" doorknob placard. So i went down to the lobby to ask for hangers and the front clerk said "No" and before I could ask anything else, she beat me to the punch and added, "I don't have any towels, soap, shampoo. All that is housekeeping." so when i asked for the "DND" placard she was surprised went to the back and brought me one. Now when i looked at it closer, it was dirty. Was this in the bathroom? I hope those are coffee stains. Thank goodness I had gloves and antibacterial wipes on me so I could clean this placard up before I put it on outside my door. Did i sleep? Maybe 2-3 hours with the light on. Yah, IDK something told me to leave the light on. It was low amber glow light maybe a 15watt. The outlets on the lamp didn't work. At 8am I went downstairs to ask if I could change rooms. Savannah was helpful and informed it was possible after 3pm. So now I'm off to have breakfast, get my nails done, do a little walking until then. This is just part I of II of this adventure. So I packed up my belongings, i headed down to check out of 412. My next room had A/C, heater, and windows that opened. It was on the second floor. Now, I never stayed on the second floor so I didn't know what to expect. I had asked if the room smelled like smoke. Savannah said it shouldn't, even though this establishment mandates a $450 fine for smoking in their rooms. I took my chances and the hotel key and made up to the second floor. Upon entry, the room appeared clean and bright. Hey I have one hanger, things are looking up. But that o.k. on the way back from getting my nails done, I picked up a 5 pack of plastic hangers. I immediately got my gloves, wipes, and began to wipe everything down. I got my lint roller and rolled over the bed linens and pillow cases. There's lint everywhere. Must be the vents. So now it's about 4pm and I remembered "The Oscars" I'm glad the TV worked and they had Direct TV as a cable service so I can listen to that in the background as I got ready for my yolosolodate. Oakland was alive tonight at the Oscars. Much love for Ryan Coogler, Rafaael Sadiqq, Zendaya, and Autumn Durald Arkapaw. When I grabbed the TV remote it felt different, when I turned it over I saw the duct tape. I laughed so hard when I saw this. Now, I know I'm in the Hood. Did I sleep? No, trains running all night long. They seemed louder on the second floor. Trains at 2:27am. This bathroom needs to get sprayed. I left the light on all night. I guess there really is No Sleep Til Brooklyn. See you some more on Yelp 2026.
