Ahhhhh yes, good ol Mariners Village! I guess you could call me a vet resident, seeing as I have lived here for 7 plus years. I personally don't see what all the fuss is about in regards to some of these peoples reviews. First off, it's sunny Southern California located on the West Coast the best coast! Some people seem to have sticks you know where, and are honestly the type of people I am happy to never bump into. This place has been nothing but amazing to me, and I have loved every bit of it. I say loved, because I am actually moving back home to Washington State. So I will unfortunately be leaving this great sanctuary where I HAVE met plenty of awesome and great people. If I wasn't moving out of state, I would never leave this place! The management are great people, and are very easy to speak with even on a personal level. I have never seen dogs swimming in the pool in my whole seven years, and I frequent the pool (at least the main pool). I haven't seen any issues with them pooping and residents not picking it up after them. I have never had an issue with smokers. I used to be a smoker of two varieties and actually stopped during my residency there. However, I have had my fair share of dealing with non smokers who were some of the most rude and pompous people I have ever met. A little word to the wise, inquire about the neighbors before actually renting an apartment. That is if you prefer non smokers as opposed to smokers. Otherwise, keep the bitching to a minimum. The parties there on the 4th of July are a lot of fun, and if you're old and boring don't show up to the main pool area. Because if you do, I imagine you will wine and complain like a grumpy old man as all the non boring people want to have fun and celebrate independents day! The apartments are older appearing, but that is also what gives them their own comfy homely identity. The insides are nice, nothing majorly fancy but nice. The main pool is always at a good temperature, and the jacuzzi's are a great place to meet some of the residents. The gym is fabulous! They have everything you need to get into shape or maintain. I also would like to note that I have met some great people in the gym, who have shared a lot of their knowledge with me. Which has helped myself excel even further in my journey to maximize my bodies full potential. Knowledge of which I have also myself passed onto other residents. There's a lot of good people to meet there as long as you aren't a tool. Maintenance is great! They are prompt and professional. I never worry about letting them do the work without me present! The parking is probably the only thing I never could get over, but that's because I work late and hate to walk home after getting off of work. It's only like a couple of blocks to walk when parking on via dolce, but for me on occasion it really grinded my gears! Most nights I was fine with it though, and it made it that much more special when a guest spot was open for me. The internet isn't that bad! I work in software, and am also an avid gamer! Meaning I play a lot of games which require online connectivity whilst running multiple computers connected to the web streaming at the same time as I am playing, and I have only had a few bumps and bruises along the way. Once in a while the connection will seem bogged down, and will run slower then normal. But it's only lasted a night at most, and usually is fixed when I get home the next day. There have also been some outages, but I guess I just understand that type of stuff does happen. Especially in Marina Del Rey as a whole. It's not their fault, but more so Edison's. And even then it's not their fault, SHIT HAPPENS! Mariners Village was and is a great place to live. The management are good people, and reliable. A special shout out to Sharon for being awesome and taking care of any issues that may have arose. Speak to them like people and they will help you or try their best. Yell at them like their your slaves and they...well I wouldn't help your ass either! Unfortunately for them it's their job, so they will probably try to help but may not feel the motivation to help that they would have when speaking to them like a human being. I'd recommend anyone who can afford it live at Mariners Village. I personally am sad to leave it. If I ever move back I will definitely inquire about moving back to Mariners Village. For anyone considering Mariners Village, go check it out and don't pay attention to the nay sayers. I promise you they are just anal retentive A holes! read more

first-MV is nice because it's close to the beach! it's far enough away from the city that you don't feel as though you live in a filthy, overcrowded mess. there are 4 pools (2 heated/2 unheated), a newly renovated gym, 4 tennis courts. most maintenance employees are very courteous. parking is AWFUL. 1 reserved space is included in your lease-doesn't matter if you have a 3 bd + 3 cars-you'll have to pay $75/month for EACH additional space. you can park in the lot across the street, but it costs a lot-and more often than not, the machine doesn't work, so expect a $65 ticket. a neighbor negotiated w/ MV for FREE spaces because her rent is so much. tenants w/ more than 1 car use VISITOR parking spots and then rotate their cars from their reserved spot to a free spot. rotate because MV does not monitor who uses GUEST parking....it's not guests. MV has an EXTREMELY LOOSE smoking policy. smoking is allowed all over the property here (hallways, pools, hot tubs, garages, stairwells, mail boxes, tennis courts, inside units, outside on the balconies---which is absolutely BRUTAL if you live above a smoker). i have witnessed people smoking in the elevators and laundry rooms! i have to laugh at another reviews to which management replies: "we do not guarantee a smoke free environment, it is a sensitive topic. we try to be fair to both parties". HOW CAN THEY BE FAIR TO BOTH PARTIES? options for NON-Smokers: SHUT UP, suffer health issues due to inconsiderate neighbors 2nd hand smoke or pay 2-3-4 thousand of $$ to break your lease and move. you can get an air purifier from maintenance (i know at least 5 people who have them now) but, they are so small they do nothing. i would say turn on the air conditioning if 2nd-hand smoke forces you to live with all of your windows/doors shut---"wonderful" management told me to live this way, btw. weirdly enough---there is NO AIR CONDITIONING in any of the units (trust me-units can get very hot that you'll need it). it was over 90 degrees in my apt. almost every day for many months during the summer. WARNING! anyone with smoke sensitivities DO NOT live here. management will NOT "work with you and be fair". they will brush you off and just say there is nothing they can do. they will shrug their shoulders and tell you they are sick of discussing the issue. end of story. it's weird, 'cause the new complex down the street is 100% smoke-free...no exceptions! if they can do it, why can't MV? MV has every legal right to prohibit/restrict smoking and has the state of CA to back them up. just look up SB 332. they are just too lazy to implement the rule. they freely allow a minority group to ruin it for the majority. 1 smoker can ruin everything for the surrounding units. p.s. you can only have Direct TV (which they force you to pay whether you want it or not because they made it part of the lease). of course, they keep raising the price of Direct TV, so expect notices on your door about rate increases...which means an increase to your lease....mid lease. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH! view YOUR unit, not one that leasing tells you is "just like yours". oh, sure---leasing will say the one they show you is "exactly like" the one you will lease. NOPE! they will switch on you! i was shown new carpets, granite counters, beautiful cupboards, amazing window shutters, lovely wood floors, painted accent wall, new fixtures. my place? NONE of those. i got: faux granite, window blinds that belong in a dorm, old carpet, filthy bathroom shower doors, kitchen cupboards that must have 20 coats of paint on them, chipped/cheap faux wood floor at entrance, ancient fixtures. no washer or dryers in the units, either. lots of theft in the laundry rooms. read more

I've always been a fan of the show The Twilight Zone, but never in a million years did I see myself guest staring on one of their episodes. The scene takes place on the very west side of LA county in a city called Marina Del Rey. A woman moves into a small town called mariners village: occupancy, over 1000 units. From an outsider mariners village looks like a small paradise: four pools, a 24 hour gym, hot tubs, curtesy patrol, monthly parties along with holiday galas, a media room you can use to entertain your guest, a pool table, a library with a beautiful fireplace for your comfort on chilly nights. The grounds are filled with rushing streams and waterfalls that lead out to a big fresh water pool filled with beautiful and exotic fish and baby turtles. There are big trees landscaped throughout the property making it appear as if you have walked through a tropical jungle and as you approach the marina you can hear the sounds of aquatic birds and sea lions. The units have nice granite counter tops, fireplaces, wall to wall carpet and wooden floors to the entryway of your apartment. And to top it off, each unit is equipped with Internet and basic cable included in the price of this little piece of paradise. Everything seems so picture perfect and so you sign a lease, and turn the key to your new unit and realize that you've just stepped into an episode of, The Twilight Zone! Next scene You move into your new place, and realize that it's not as lovely as the model unit they showed you, but that's okay you think because you and your guest you intend to have over will enjoy the lush tropics of the grounds. Same Day Your guest arrives only to see that there is no guest parking and therefore opts to park in the shady looking pay to park lot across the street. Same Day You and your guest arrive at the pool only whats up find non residents occupying both the pool and jacuzzi, the gym is totally packed and you can't use the media room because the resident office is closed. Day Two You wake to the smell of cigarette smoke, the smell is coming from your kitchen, your bedroom closet and through your bedroom window. Your unit is filled with so much smoke you develop chronic bronchitis, you're sick for the first three months at mariners village. Three months later you're used to the loud talking coming from your neighbors apartments, the loud sexcapades you hear throughout the day and night, used to the rude resident services staff, rude leasing office staff. You never invite guest over because they will have nowhere to park and the last time they parked across the street in the shady public parking lot they were almost mugged. You don't enjoy the grounds, you barely enjoy your unit because it is now being invaded by these invisible aliens who constantly smoke cigarettes in your apartment. You complain but no one listens no one cares and there is nothing you or anyone can do, you will live out your lease living in what you once thought of as paradise and realizing now that you have been living in The Twilight Zone! read more

First of all i laugh at SOME of the positive reviews obviously written by staff, plain and simple you can tell. Second, the resident office has sadly SOME very unhappy snarky staff who treat you like children and talk to down to you. Plain rude and just not professional, and it shows much of the companies real business plan as a management company. Money $$$$ resort lifestyle? The resident staff want residents who make no fuss and want to do as little as possible in their job, they want an easy ride and do minimal for their job and yes this includes ES ring management who have the same attitude Third, your security is an UTTER joke, the running joke is mariners village has the safest gym in the country because that is where the security guard sits all day,.... no, wait i stand corrected once an hour he drives on his cart to check in at various locations. Anyone wanting to know where security is to steal anything can easily know his schedule, its posted ! In the meantime many cars have been broken into and mail is constantly stolen when left by the mailboxes. and guess where security is instead of patrolling ?? there is going to be some theft and robbery but when security spends 90% of the time checking illegal parked cars in the village there is something horribly wrong( see below) Fourth, I have no issue with security taking backhanders from the towing company to make extra money,everyone knows that they get kickbacks for having illegally towed cars. What REALLY bothers me is that they spend 90% of the time doing that. Everyday there are people using facilities we pay for the pool and jacuzzi etc. not ONCE have i seen security checking peoples IDs by the pool. People have even TOLD security of non residents in groups hanging by the pool and security still does ZILCH but carry on checking cars to make extra dollars. When someone asked the office they were told security is here too protect the village. We have seen people stealing and robbing here from cars , mailboxes, and the residents stop using the facilities now because its overflowing with non residents.. and what is the point of having mariners village resident card? Absolutely nothing, as security does NOTHING to implement this, people even drop their kids off unattended to use the pool as they know its an easy place to leave kids. So we pay for the facilities but yet we don't want to use them as its packed with non residents who don't pay for anything here. Everyday i sit and watch security drive by 3 times a day checking cars and then walk by the crowded pool and not challenge ANYONE for ID living here. Lastly the management has alot to answer for but simply don't care, read the reviews on yelp they gave up on that as the reviews are so awful.. Why don't they care? because they care about retention rates and MV is full most of the time so they don't have to make any effort. I feel like I am on vacation, at home here, in Hawaii. I love Mariners Village, the peace, tranquility and the lush foliage which is like a small forest on the ocean (if you look at it from all over the Marina, it looks like a forest and it has native Blue Herons that nest there) The pools are the perfect temperature and I have some favorites meals at The Bistro (they also have some great healthy raw food deserts) The dry cleaner is great on-site as they will work with you on the prices if you bring in a bunch of shirts etc to process (I hear they are good at tailoring clothes so I need to explore that also). The staff are fun and professional and the community here is very alive as I very much enjoy the events they hold here, it really helps to sponsor a sense of community. All my friends in Venice and Marina enjoy coming to Mariners Village as it provides everyone in the community a peaceful place that is accessible to all of Marina Del Rey It takes up a large area from the ocean to channel. ES Ring Management are awesome, maintenance is efficient and responsive. There are some weekends which can be noisy, but overall the community is really special and very appreciative of living in nature full of waterfalls, mature trees, gorgeous foliage and being at one with our environment which has beautiful birds, fish and trees. The trees are really impressive, they look really mature, you can almost feel how old they are. Sometimes, it sounds like a jungle at night with all these shore-birds that visit, great way to fall asleep at night! The apartments are not shoe-box size like the new buildings that are being built in the Marina and the pools are perfect with trees for shade. The landscaping is really spectacular and I have lots of fond memories of going out a boat and sailing by this beautiful property. The trees are probably 50 plus years old! Here are some fun facts I found out: Mariner's Village and its landscaping were designed by the late Peter Kamnitzer, AIA, one of Los Angeles' most distinguished architects. There are less than 4 developments of historic importance in Marina del Rey. Mariner's Village is one of them. Kamnitzer's project exemplifies the idea of providing urban residents with a sense of living in a lush, sylvan-like setting complete with ponds and waterfalls, a rarity in Los Angeles. The exterior of the apartment complex is executed in a Cape-Cod style of architectural design which compliments its waterside setting. In addition there are picturesque walkways, a charming area with a cafe and other services and a lovely community room reminiscent of the grand lodge hotels in Yosemite and other national parks. UPDATE: What a Difference a phone call makes! Wow - Nice Job. I received a phone call from the General Manager with a genuine interest in "making things right" - and that is all that was needed! I appreciate that the Resident Service office staff reported the situation to the the GM and that Sharon took the time to call and inquire about what happened. I did not require any freebies, just a little customer TLC and that was delivered. Thank you Sharon for your genuine care and time on the phone. Yay! I can feel good about the place I have called home for the last six years! _________________________________________________________________________________ OLD REVIEW: I have lived at Mariner's Village for almost 6 years and I used to love it. It all started with a wonderful leasing agent who helped me with my first apartment. Leilani was amazing - she really cared and went above and beyond. When I was ready to upgrade to a two bedroom, she found the best location and I got a lot of bang for my buck. It seems that there has been a change in management and ever since the rent just keeps going up & customer service keeps going down. Over the last year, every time I have an interaction with the resident service office or the General Manager they have been rude. It hasn't been just one interaction but 4 over the last 10 months. Each time I have gone to the office, the customer service has been one step below the DMV. What really bothers me is the general attitude that the customer is always wrong and a corporate culture that blames first to avoid taking responsibility for anything. I kept letting it slide, thinking it was't worth getting upset over - life's too short, right? I didn't want to be one of those people that gets pissed off and pens a completely one sided review. But after repeated crappy experiences, I thought it worth while to write a review because I use other people's reviews to make my purchasing decisions - time to return the favor. I can't blame the staff - they are just mirroring the Management. For a few hundred dollars a month more then the rent I pay at Mariner's Village, I can have a more modern apartment with a management team that delivers customer service. And why not pay a few hundred more - they are going to raise the rent that amount anyway! I will not be renewing my lease - life is too short to deal with negative and unhappy people. You might not have the same experience I had, but its worth doing your do diligence before signing a lease at Mariner's Village - I'd keep on looking if I were you! read more

Asbestos, noisy neighbors, and inconsiderate staff. The walls are extremely thin as the building is old, and if you have a noisy neighboring unit you are in for a mental health crises. I was dealing with this for over a year. I reached out dozens of times to courtesy patrol throughout several months to report it, as well as the police to no avail. I even spoke with a couple staff members over the phone who vaguely said they would speak to the tenant-but never did as the noise continued. A woman from the office called me the day after a courtesy patrol call, yelling at me that the noise I was hearing was just pipes, trying to gaslight me into just drop the case. What was the point of calling courtesy patrol then? I then reached out to resident services personally with video proof about the noise situation in an email chain, and this is where the story unfolds. My initial email was extremely detailed with the issue I was facing, the videos I took of the noise, and the attempts I made at contacting courtesy patrol. I got a vague lowercase response telling me "can't hear video" ...I had no idea who I was speaking to there was no sign off or reference to any of the concerns in the email. I continued to follow up with them with more video evidence, detailed occurrences, and time stamps of reaching out to courtesy patrol. I kept sending in proof like they asked for, and eventually they just stopped responding. The lack of concern and professionalism was unbelievable. Eventually they just told us they won't do anything, and after all I sent in said, all they asked me to send in, that none of it was "verified". That was their excuse at every turn. Evidence they asked for themselves... couldn't be "verified". For weeks I pleaded with them. I stayed up nights with courtesy patrol and my phone recording proof. I was losing so much sleep and my mental health was declining. I kept trying to resolve the issue and when they realized I wouldn't stop they had their lawyer email me as some kind of attempt to shut me up about the whole thing. I wouldn't wish this situation on my worst enemy. Complex staff are notorious for dismissing their residents, but this was the worst case I've seen yet. We are leaving this complex now. Any response from the complex to this publicly will probably be some corporate attempt at gaslighting and dismissing everything I said....much on par with the way they handled this situation so look out for thier live example below this. read more

Poorly managed as everyone says and I have done my time here and sick of the ghetto management with poor customer service and constant double standards. The manager who you will see below then come back with a" how he cares" comeback reply but yet couldnt respond to an email in over 5 days. but yet he cares when i put it on social media but not respond to my emails or calls to the residents service, with resident staff who do little if anything. Security or patrol as it is referred to does little to stiffle the constant battle of cars being broken into,cars being stolen, and its now becoming paradise in compton. There are no cameras or locked garages so the homeless find it a great place to come break in cars...Many times homeless have been found washing and bathing in the pool, or people stealing packages from the parcel area. On top of that about 25 units are run by the russian mafia it seems renting apartments out on air bnb..not always MV fault. but when some have been doing it a long time and have not been thrown out or turned a blind eye to it and and some have about 6 under one name it seems there is a bit more to it. the fact they know and do little about it and now with covid 19 - people coming in out of state staying here so upping the chances of catching it in those air bnbs... THE MANAGEMENT ARE TOO CHEAP TO GO TO COURT TO REMOVE THESE PEOPLE, A LIST HAS BEEN SENT MANY TIMES TO MANAGEMENT WHO DOES NOTHING AS WE HAVE SEEN SINCE THE COURTS REOPENED. we are moving out when the lease is up due to poor management, part of that is also ES Ring too who runs it into the ground. It could be classy but now is filled with outsiders using all the facilities as the patrol wont check anyone's ID , or anyone one who use to live here drops there kids off at the facility to use the pool. the people living here don't use the facilities as its packed with people NOT living here or from Airbnb, when the pool is open. Yes i could write more but you get the gist again from everyone saying how bad resident services is. which has never changed over the years. Mariners Village has a myriad of systemic and ongoing problems for which the owners and management take no responsibility or accountability. For example, there was no hot water on numerous occasions throughout 2020, 2021, and 2022. Finally, I went without hot water for 4 days in June 2022 and requested that these 4 days be taken off my June rent. A sensible and appropriate request given that I did not take any action or complain any of the other times there was no hot water in the past but decided to draw the line when I took cold showers for 4 days in the same month. While Mariners Village has a fully-staffed "Resident Services" unit, I was told to submit my request online and was then contacted by an attorney who denied my request. Not only do they fail to fix their aging systems in a timely manner and have their residents go without hot water for days on end, but they will not even take responsibility and accommodate their residents' request for some sort of discounts on the rental prices which do not reflect the reality of the apartment complex. Another example, is that my apartment got flooded and I had to spend 9 days outside of my home because the tenants above me are are severe drug users who are not only unable to properly use and maintain the toilet allowing it to flood three floors, but they have been terrorizing myself and all the surrounding units with incessant fighting, screaming, and abusing their dog at all hours of the day and night. The sheriff is out here multiple times a week, every week, and nothing changes In summary, this place is a total shit-show, and the worst part is that they do not try to acknowledge, accept, or take responsibility for any of it. Updating this review based on Marc's comments below: Marc, the hot water was out for 4 days, one of those days for more than 6 hours, not two partial days as you suggest. I'm disappointed about the reviews I'm reading about the Village. I live here and think it's the best place I've lived at since being on my own. The location is perfect, tons of things to do nearby and beautiful scenery. How can you beat paid utilities, assigned parking spot, and those free monthly parties the management throws? Parking isn't bad compared to living in downtown LA, or worse those residential places that have street cleaning and those confusing signs that say no parking during certain times of the day. My guest never care about paying for parking, its kind of expected in a beach city. My parking is assigned and covered, so that's a plus. The walls aren't thin; Yet, I can imagine having a disrespectful neighbor that would love to annoy the crap out of ya. But seriously through the 1960s and into the early 1970's most apartments were built with solid plaster walls and while not 100% soundproof it is rather good (unless someone is blasting a stereo). In the late 70's and now most places are made w/ plasterboard (drywall). Which we all know isn't as great as solid plaster. I'm lucky not to have a noisy neighbor. My rent price isn't bad and sometimes on Craigslist I see a few ads from Mariners Village for cheaper apartments but when I find out the location of the cheaper apartments I understand why. I haven't had a rent increase in 3 years, but love knowing that I will soon be able to pay for my TV and Internet with rent. Maybe the staff could be rude more like defensive, but I've seen some nasty bratty kids act up in Mariners Village. I don't have any purpose to deal with management; I usually pay rent in the drop box, and see Jeanette over in maintenance to take care of things that needs to be fixed. I've referred 3 of my friends and 2 of my coworkers to this place and also received those referral bonuses. If your border line in your decision making, I encourage you to talk with a manager or some residents near the pool there's always someone there. Best place to live near the water. read more
