When the waitress is visibly shocked because you said 'none' after she asked 'How many sugars in your tea love?' you know you've come to the right place for breakfast. Formica and wood panelled walls are the order of the day at Mario's - a classic cafe on Clapham High Street that has probably been the same for 30 years.
A husband and wife run things here, which means the wait can be a little taxing given Mario's popularity with tradesmen and grannies. However, the set breakfasts are solid and made with care and attention.
Worth a visit if the Clapham Best Kebab and Cafe is closed (even if just to see posters of Luke Perry on the walls), Mario's is from a dying breed of cafes and should be treasured. read more
