A big reason to pick Urban Taco is that the website was straightforward with food packages spelled out. Other websites ask you to call for a quote, which is time consuming, inconvenient, awkward, and questionable, as you wonder if the prices are negotiable or not. "Hey, yeah, for YOU, I'll throw in the lettuce..." When I confirmed my quote, there were no surprise fees added, like "apron tax", "taco processing", or "fart disposal fee". Just tax. And was told there would be a $55 travel charge, but that seemed reasonable considering their drive down the 405 from Chatsworth to Seal Beach. Francine is not, how can I put this--- "excessively bubbly". On a bubbly scale with champagne in a blender being the top, she's closer to ice. I'm not saying she isn't friendly, but do not expect excessive bubbly-ness. She is, however, straightforward, clear, precise, accommodating, and contacts you via phone and email, and I appreciate her service. I didn't have time to evaluate them precisely, as I was kinda busy publicly vowing to 88 friends (and a guy named Ryan Alari) my dying eternal and legally binding love to some hot chick, BUT here's what I remember: They were on time. They were friendly. The presentation was good, and the food... The food was good and plentiful. We got the steak, fish, and shrimp tacos. For sides we got refried beans (not as healthy, but I wanted some WEIGHT on the plate) and Mexican rice. We made our own salad and opted for their guacamole for the side, which is just too pricey to buy on your own. It was a great call: I HAVE NOT HAD BETTER GUACAMOLE anywhere- it was chunky but creamy and fresh, a bit like Chronic Tacos. Get the guac as a side! I do have to say that the churros were cold. Yummy, but cold. (Maybe they were too close to Francine... I kid!!) I won't mark them down for that since we ate later than expected, so maybe that's my fault, but I advise that you get a chafing dish for the churros, unless that's something they will provide. Another reason for five stars: we had more than enough food, and one of my biggest regrets that night, besides inviting Ryan, was not designating who took the food. I woke up the next morning with a trunk full of car meat. It haunts me to this day that I did not eat it all.

This was far, far from that...huge trays of *EVERYTHING* with tons of left-overs. Usually our meals are to feed about 40 people...our office has about 80 people and there was so much left over that we opened it up to everyone else. There was easily $800-900 worth of food delivered, but I think they may have only charged $500'ish. The individual who coordinates the department lunches said that the order came in under budget! Truly amazing. We will definitely be using them again in the future - everything tasted great. I LOVE businesses like this...they don't charge much, but they get tons of repeat business and are in high demand because of customer loyalty. It's an alternative way of making a lot of profits...versus other restaurants who charge a fortune and then wonder why they start losing customers. They served 4 kinds of meat for the tacos, plus tons of beans, rice, tortillas, and salad. And a big pan of cookies as well (unexpected, but a nice treat.)

I was told there would be cucumbers and tomatoes and there were barely any tomatoes no cucumbers at all. The main course was A quarter of a stuffed Lamb $100.00. I specifically asked if the stuffing was made with rice meat and nuts and spiced with salt pepper and allspice. Margaret said yes we can make it like that for you. She told me, They would send me a text for deposit and instructions and then they would deliver on Christmas Day. The day went by no response no text. I called and left a message to be sure that there was not a problem. I wanted to pay the deposit. This was Christmas supper. I wanted to be sure that nothing went wrong. Margaret sent me a message to let me know that there's no problem, and not to worry she's not going to collect the deposit and they will deliver the food. She asked me to leave her my address, so I did. I then received a message that they were going to deliver the food in the morning and I would need to reheat it (yuck) . She says, her mother now has 4 orders Christmas Day. I asked to be the last of the 4. When the food arrived, the lamb was so burnt the meat shrunk around the bone I am including a picture of it with the sweet rice and raisins (not meat and allspice seasoning) as requested. It looked embarrassing to serve. I called Margaret back, she refused to talk to me on the phone, instead she texted only (stating she was at work). She said would call me when she was off her 13 hour shift. So, now I'm stuck on Christmas Day with burnt lamb and sweet rice. No one to help me and so I need to just wing it. Margaret texted me she would make it right when she called me back. I'm thinking, sending other food would help me now, but maybe she just take the lamb back and refund it. Well, she gets off work and I receive a text saying she can't call me (surprise surprise). The best she can do is $20 credit, (as if I would trust them again). Then she explains how they would be taking a loss and how they never did collect a deposit, (because we are of the same culture and she can trust me). Then she says she did not charge tax which, I assumed was part of the cost, since tax was never mentioned. Then she says, we didn't charge you $30 for delivery (which again was never mentioned as a charge). I asked, what about the stuffing? Why would you tell me the stuffing would be made with rice, meat, nuts, and allspice seasoning's? She says, that I thought you were going to order a whole stuffed lamb not a quarter. I said, why would you not, at that point tell me the stuffing would then be different? Not one person would eat that rice and it is not what we wanted. I asked her to come pick it up take it back. Then she comes back with "the most I can do is $30 refund" At this point I am disgusted and disappointed. I explain to her that I would rather leave an appropriate review for their business. It's very disappointing that a business would treat a new customer this way and leave them high and dry on a holiday. I had been bragging to my family about the fact that I found a caterer of Middleeastern food that would deliver on Christmas Day. They were so excited to try the food, I was so embarrassed, and they were very grossed out at the sight of that lamb. It was like chewing on leather couldn't even eat it, what a shame. Thought we found something good. Definitely do not trust for an important event. So frustrating to have no customer help like that. Their Birria menu is filled with so much Birria delights such as Birria tacos, Birria quesadillas and even Birria ramen. It was the Birria egg rolls that won me over. The Birria egg rolls are 2 for $6 or 4 for $10.99. Pro tip: do yourself a favor and get 4! You not only save a little but you'll get to indulge in some unique and delicious egg rolls. With a golden brown wrapper on the outside and cheese coated inside filled with tender birria; it's hard not to love their Birria Egg Rolls! I also tried their Birria taco for $2.75 and thought it was good as well. They give a good amount of Birria beef and so it is a quite fulfilling taco. One thing to note is consome is extra $2 for an 8oz cup and does not come with the meal. I definitely want to try more items from L.A Birria. I am curious to try their Birria Ramen as well as their Birria Quedadillas. L.A Birria is at Food Culture LA every day from 6pm to 11pm.
