Is that a churro in my pocket, or do I really like Urban Taco? Ordered Urban Taco for my wedding, July 2012. I did my research, as you assumably are doing now. A big reason to pick Urban Taco is that the website was straightforward with food packages spelled out. Other websites ask you to call for a quote, which is time consuming, inconvenient, awkward, and questionable, as you wonder if the prices are negotiable or not. "Hey, yeah, for YOU, I'll throw in the lettuce..." When I confirmed my quote, there were no surprise fees added, like "apron tax", "taco processing", or "fart disposal fee". Just tax. And was told there would be a $55 travel charge, but that seemed reasonable considering their drive down the 405 from Chatsworth to Seal Beach. Francine is not, how can I put this--- "excessively bubbly". On a bubbly scale with champagne in a blender being the top, she's closer to ice. I'm not saying she isn't friendly, but do not expect excessive bubbly-ness. She is, however, straightforward, clear, precise, accommodating, and contacts you via phone and email, and I appreciate her service. I didn't have time to evaluate them precisely, as I was kinda busy publicly vowing to 88 friends (and a guy named Ryan Alari) my dying eternal and legally binding love to some hot chick, BUT here's what I remember: They were on time. They were friendly. The presentation was good, and the food... The food was good and plentiful. We got the steak, fish, and shrimp tacos. For sides we got refried beans (not as healthy, but I wanted some WEIGHT on the plate) and Mexican rice. We made our own salad and opted for their guacamole for the side, which is just too pricey to buy on your own. It was a great call: I HAVE NOT HAD BETTER GUACAMOLE anywhere- it was chunky but creamy and fresh, a bit like Chronic Tacos. Get the guac as a side! I do have to say that the churros were cold. Yummy, but cold. (Maybe they were too close to Francine... I kid!!) I won't mark them down for that since we ate later than expected, so maybe that's my fault, but I advise that you get a chafing dish for the churros, unless that's something they will provide. Another reason for five stars: we had more than enough food, and one of my biggest regrets that night, besides inviting Ryan, was not designating who took the food. We had Urban Taco for lunch today in our office. We do have a budget for our annual department lunches and, depending on the restaurant, we often end up with a meager amount of food with JUST enough for everyone. This was far, far from that...huge trays of *EVERYTHING* with tons of left-overs. Usually our meals are to feed about 40 people...our office has about 80 people and there was so much left over that we opened it up to everyone else. There was easily $800-900 worth of food delivered, but I think they may have only charged $500'ish. The individual who coordinates the department lunches said that the order came in under budget! Truly amazing. We will definitely be using them again in the future - everything tasted great. I LOVE businesses like this...they don't charge much, but they get tons of repeat business and are in high demand because of customer loyalty. It's an alternative way of making a lot of profits...versus other restaurants who charge a fortune and then wonder why they start losing customers. They served 4 kinds of meat for the tacos, plus tons of beans, rice, tortillas, and salad. And a big pan of cookies as well (unexpected, but a nice treat.) read more

If you need a caterer for any size occasion, you need Urban Taco. One week ago Urban Taco catered my daughter's wedding in Fillmore...yes, a wedding...She wanted a taco bar, but nicer than the average taco man and after a google search I found this awesome place. From the first meeting and tasting a whole year before the wedding, to the final numbers a few weeks before, Francine was wonderful. It was an easy experience, no stress. Day of wedding Jason showed up with his crew and delivered exceptional service with both the appetizers and full taco bar. Just a good group of people! Food did not meet my expectations. I expected a delicious, satiating meal yet I was met with a mediocre, tasteless plate of "Mexican cuisine". Also, not sure if food was prepared in a hygienic manner (found a hair in mine). Overall wouldn't recommend. :/ read more

We used Urban Taco for my son's wedding this past weekend. They are amazing. I dealt mainly with Scott but spoke with Francine the week before the wedding. The food was great, the portions were generous. These guys know their stuff. They are very adept at catering for large functions so I wasn't stressed as to whether things would go smoothly. We had their appetizers as well ceviche was fantastic. Staff was professional. Having priced a lot of other options I can confidently say this is the best bang for your buck. Thanks Urban. Wow! We are so impressed with these guys! We catered a small house party for 20 people for NYE (and last minute too) and they provided excellent service from beginning to end! I had found these guys on Yelp so was a bit wary at first to try them out, but so glad that we did! The food was amazing and so tasty!! The carne asade was sooo good, the salsas were so good with the verde being my favorite, the cabbage slaw was excellent and the guac - OMG so good! And there was so much food that everyone took leftovers! It was a HUGE hit and I will def. be calling these guys for future events! read more

OMG! It was amazing. They catered 70 people and brought enough food for 100. Everyone took left overs. The food was sooooo good. The tacos were a huge hit. The guacamole was delicious and everything was home made. The service was excellent, and they serviced 70 people so quickly. Definitely 5 stars all the way. read more

I was not paid nor given a discount for what I am writing. Urban Taco was a perfect choice for our Memorial Day party. They showed up on time, prepared everything they way they said they would, and the food was very good. We will absolutely use them again when the situation arises. read more

Could not have been happier. Ordered home/office catering for a shower with 35 guests as we did not have enough guests to qualify for the full-blown catering I was very nervous going out on a limb based on web surfing and only two reviews. I can't overstate how great everything was. Had the taco bar (meat, chicken and veggie) and an added enchilada casserole. Delivery was exactly on time, the set-up was quick, efficient and friendly. We didn't eat at the planned time but the food remained warm and fresh. I was impressed with just how fresh all of the ingredients seemed to be. All of our guests raved about how delicious the food was and kept asking what "restaurant" it came from so they could go there. Not only was the pricing incredibly reasonable, we could have fed everyone twice over - everyone left the party with another meal to go! Their website made the planning very easy with menu options and accurate pricing and I knew to ask about a delivery fee which was also very reasonable...no surprises there. Based on the comment about Francine not being "bubbly" I approached the contact with some trepidation, but found her to be very accommodating and not at all unfriendly. I tried to save up my questions to an as needed list rather than call a gazillion times, and Francine was quick to respond by email with thorough answers. I am one happy customer and just can't wait to have the opportunity to have another event where I can use their services again. read more

Urban Taco catered my Mom's 80th birthday celebration and they were OUTSTANDING! The food was excellent. The choices were plentiful. We had five kinds of tacos: grilled fish, chicken al carbon, barbacoa, carnitas and steak al carbon. All were great but the barbacoa is the one everyone is still talking about. Their sides were delicious and the assortment of salsas was generous and tasty. Natalie took care of everything and everyone flawlessly. She even made a point of wishing my Mom a happy birthday. Enrique was our chef. He was smiling and friendly and very attentive to our needs. Honestly I cannot praise Urban Taco highly enough. I would definitely hire them again. And again. read more

I used Urban Taco for my twins' first birthday party. The taco bar was a great hit! We had 80 servings and there was tons of great tasting food. We will definitely use them again. They are highly professional, very responsive and easy to work with.
