I normally would not think to review a boutique / store, but HOLY SMOKES! We spent all day shopping around Seattle at a mix of boutiques and bigger retailers; Mario's had by far the best customer service (and selection). Immediately upon walking in we were warmly greeted & encouraged to take our time to look around. As we moved to another section of the store, I asked a question to one of the women working. She immediately got the attention of who would soon become my favorite person in Seattle, Joan. Joan took such incredible care of me and my mom. She helped me find exactly what I was looking for. She also offered restaurant recommendations and phoned her friends that lived in a nearby town we would staying in to give the best advice possible. Went in to browse heels and the staff was beyond amazing. From the moment we entered the door to the time we left. April was the absolute BEST, even though they didn't have the heels I wanted in store, she answered all questions I had and helped me find my heel size. Wow! What a first class experience from beginning to end. I used the Marios website to book a personal stylist appointment and ended up spending 6 whole hours shopping! We got some really stylish outfits, blazer, coat, jacket, shirts, trousers and several pairs of shoes. Alternations come free on all their items and the tailor is in-house and ready to fit you. So no separate appointment needed to get everything pinned to be taken in. Approximate turn around time on alterations was 1 week, very fast and they shipped these items to my house so I didn't have to make a separate trip back to the store to pick up the alterations. Very nice! My stylist was great. I tried on many different looks and chose some high quality pieces for my wardrobe. Marios also provided me with a lunch while I was shopping. Which was a much needed break from the shopping! I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a high end department store to come to Marios. This is the way luxury department stores used to be! Thanks to everyone. I will be back! PS Marios has impeccable security. A locked front door which security guard buzzes you in, and he stays posted at the entrance to filter out any criminal types (since downtown Seattle can be rough!) and the security guard will walk you to your vehicle when you leave with all your goodies too! PPS - after reading the low star reviews from other people I just want to say that Marios welcomes all people, all creeds, all nationalities, all income levels. Marios is the top high end department store in all of Seattle (think Louis Vuitton), they treat all their customers with care and respect. But customers should expect that Marios will be operating at a different level than say, Nordstroms. And this is a very good thing! Nordstroms is targeted to a different audience than Marios is. Thats the whole point! --And book an appointment in advance you guys! You'll get the posh treatment you desire! I've had really good experiences at Mario's. Now, you'll never see my purchasing a $300 T-shirt or a pair of $1000 white snakeskin Christian Laboutin wedges, but you might just see me over in the premium denim selection, wowed by the excellent assortment of premium denim and ALL the new cuts and washes in ALMOST every size. I had no idea that they were such a powerhouse for premium denim. Every time I'm at Nordstrom downtown, I strike out on sizes. This is not the case at Mario's. Not only did I find the black skinny Hudson jeans that I've been in search of for months here last night, but I also found my size in almost every jean I picked up. And with brands like J Brand, Paige, Seven, and Hudson, how can you go wrong? They weren't any more expensive that the jeans they sell at Nordy's either and the customer service here cannot be beat. AND- they have the boyfriend jean (who came up with that name, anyway?), which is the hot ticket item this spring- so you can get those here too. While most of the girly garb here is a bit (and by bit, I mean A LOT) out of my price range, I did see some fun lifetime pieces that I'd love to try on next time I'm in. The men's floor boasts Prada and Hugo Boss which makes this a cool place to browse with your SO even if you're not looking to spend an arm and a leg... and if you're shopping here for anything other than denim, you probably will. read more

Love the clothes, tolerate the staff. This is such a battle of good and evil for me cause I happen to have a weakness for Prada suits and Mario's can always get them for me in timely manner. However, the staff makes it seem like it's a total inconvenience for them. Staff just has an air of "snobbery" that makes the experience awkward. I think the Mario's experience from yelp seems to be all about the sales staff. That being said they "curate" a terrific collection of clothes. You don't have to go hunting for hours. It is definitely expensive but I like to think that it should really about cost per wear ;-) they about a more fashion forward but stylish look. If that is what u look for then this is the place! Like Butch Blum down the street, this place is all about having the right guide (aka sales person) IMHO to help you through picking things. In the same way that I could navigate a huge wine list without someone who is an expert, Mario's is about finding that person. The best way to do that is to be a little patient and find the person. This isn't about hit and run shopping. :-) While it is expensive here (as all these stores can be) u can watch the for the sales or more important find someone who does it for u. That means unfortunately spending the time to find someone who gets your tastes. In that way it is a very different experience than the bigger stores. I come to downtown Seattle just to shop at Mario's. I buy all my suits here. I'm able to order suits and receive them quickly with no fuss. It's hard to find suits to fit my 6'5" frame and it's just easier to be able to buy suits that properly fit me. The staff can be a bit pretentious but it doesn't get under my skin. I've previously had nothing but good experiences at Mario's, but won't be back after my experience there yesterday. My boyfriend and I have been in several times before and have always been treated really well, which is somewhat unusual for us since we look very young and tend to dress casually. Unfortunately, since neither of us loved the $500-1300 jackets we were looking at enough to take them home that day, we were ridiculed by the cashier (who was also the manager) for only buying a pair of dress socks. We had the audacity to also use a coupon for said socks, which he found hilarious. He actually said "You know, we sell even cheaper things than that. Do you want to get a tube of toothpaste?". Lesson learned, if you decide that you don't want to buy merchandise at Mario's it must be because you can't afford their merchandise and should stick to toothpaste. Perhaps Mario's should consider that they are located in Seattle, known for being populated by young people working in the tech field with money to blow. Mario's is easily my favorite clothing store in the world. It may not be the biggest store (though the remodel really transformed the space), but the buyers pick such amazing pieces, the store managers merchandise the pieces so well, and the style advisors are fantastic. Chris has been my style advisor for about a year, and he has gotten to know what brands and styles I like, and makes great recommendations when I'm in the store (but he also reads situations very well, so he can tell when I am stopping in really quickly for one specific thing, and he doesn't try to up-sell me in those scenarios). If I see something I like from another store, all it takes is one text to Chris and it's waiting for me in-store a few days later. Likewise, Joyce has been helping my wife for the past year, as well, and she is absolutely fantastic. The beauty of having a style advisor like Joyce, who knows what my wife likes and what fits her well is that all of my holiday shopping will be super easy- all I have to do is set a budget and Joyce will take care of the rest! Oh, and their sales are incredible. Being able to purchase Kiton, Isaia, Brunello Cucinelli, etc. for the same price as something off the rack at Nordstrom is just mind-blowing. read more

I have my personal shopper for over 25 years karen she is so good and never ever experience anything like this anywhere. If something she doesn't like it on me she will make sure letting me know politely that is not right fit for you . If something she like on me she get so excited and can't stop being happy and take photo of it and wants make sure I know how good I look in that particole pice . I went last night 15 minutes before closing for their Men's sale to see what new clothes they had for spring. Store was slow and all employees were focused on closing up and not one person had time to help. Went down to Nordstrom and spent $1625 there. I will not be back. If you want to be sized up upon entry and judged on appearance this is your place. It's too bad they don't have some sort of scanner that can see how much you have in wallet too.... I want to like Mario's...I really do. They are an amazing Seattle boutique (also in Portland) but I am really not into their sales staff. Guys I've talked to like the boys down below, but in the ladies section I definitely get a cold Nordic breeze of Seattle Chill. If you want Louboutins, Henry Beguelin purses, Bottega clutches, Loro Piana cashmere scarves, or some multi-thousand dollar dress this is the place to go. I am still a lowly student with high fashion taste and splurge on occasion. The fact that the sales staff is less than friendly only makes me want to take my future bucks elsewhere. Please oh please Mario cheer up and treat everyone kindly, lest you lose some future devoted customers. Fabulously expensive selection of well-made luxury/designer clothes, coupled with very personalized sales assistance. Carries all the top brands - Prada, Boss, Gucci, Zegna, Kiton, Canali, etc. I don't shop here often (although I could if I simply got a 2nd mortgage on my house and sold my child into slavery), but I love everything I've purchased from this store - well-made, versatile and classic styling with modern flourishes (at least I like to think so). The good thing is that most men's clothing styles don't change all that often, so if you purchase a really expensive, but well-made piece, you can keep wearing it for years. And most of the stuff they sell here is really well made, definitely a cut above even the nicer department stores - fabric quality, stitching, construction, fit, etc. I'd say about 1/3 of my nicer wardrobe (work related shirts/pants, suits, nice sweaters) is from Marios and has held up well for 5 or even 10 years. I have this pair of hand made Italian shoes I paid a princely sum for back in 2000, but they still look almost new and are really comfortable - so it was worth it. A great place to go if you want made-to-measure stuff too (like a tux). Very comparable to Butch Blum, but with a wider selection (imho). Definitely less frou-frou than Barney's. They have a wide selection of "sportswear" too, from all the European brands, but I don't buy as much of that stuff, since it's too expensive to be replacing as the styles change each year or two. For that I'd rather go to Nordstrom. It's nice that we have at least one or two places in Seattle serving this end of the market, since it's not like NYC with 20 luxury stores in a 2-block radius. read more

I owe a great deal of gratitude to everybody at Mario's. I'll preface this review by saying that it's really based on a blended experience of my fiance shopping for his wedding day suit and my coming in to give the green light. We went to several stores downtown to look for the perfect suit for my future husband to wear on our big day. Many fell short of what we were looking for, and we were unimpressed by the sales associates we ran into. Many were very pushy to the point of forcing my fiance into a suit he didn't want at all just because the associate "preferred it." Now, while I wasn't with my fiance on the initial shopping trip to Mario's, I did come back with him the next day to see the suit he was swooning over as we were told to do by Mario's. I can share my experience from that experience. I rushed home from Redmond to make it to Mario's before they closed only to see that there was a very special red carpet event going on inside of their store. I was initially disappointed having rushed around so much to make it there in time, but decided to talk to the nice ladies working the door to explain the situation and see if we were allowed to come in and see/purchase the suit real quick and get out of their hair. She ran in and grabbed Michael, who was unbelievably charismatic and friendly and invited us in despite this very formal event to find John, the suit connoisseur my fiance was working with. John was very friendly, much more so than anybody we'd met yet in this suit search. Instead of grabbing the suit and pushing us to the fitting room to get us in and out of the store during this celebrity event, he encouraged us to mingle about the shop and enjoy some food and drinks -- that we'd get down to business later, but first, go enjoy the event. I was pretty blown away that we weren't pushed out the door for something we weren't invited to and felt very high-profile, but was so thankful to the shop for being accommodating of us even during this unexpected circumstance, and in fact never made us feel like we were a burden at all! We were treated just as the fine people walking around in super expensive dresses and suits, not like we'd just run from Capitol Hill after getting off of work. So. Customer service here is off the charts - I can't speak highly enough of John and Michael and how friendly they were to us throughout the entire process. Additionally, the suit my fiance ended up with was incredible! My fiance was so impressed that upon walking in, the first suit John grabbed fit almost 100% perfectly and was exactly what he was looking for. I got to see it on my fiance, and it was just right - he looked wonderful. :) The price was great - came in around the same price we were getting quoted in other stores, and actually a bit less in some cases! But the quality of the suit far exceeded everything else we'd seen, and the customer service just pushed our satisfaction over the edge. I cannot recommend Mario's highly enough. Thank you again, John and Michael, for your exceptional customer service, for being so friendly and welcoming to my fiance and I. You really made what had been a grueling process of suit shopping so far turn into a one-of-a-kind experience that we will always remember. read more

I was raised at Nordstroms, I. Magnins, Fredrick n Nelsons.... I have a firm grasp of what couture is available in this town, and it isn't much. Trips to New York may still be in order for your trousseau, but Marios is here to tide us over between. Do get on their email list so you know when the trunk shows come to town. I especially enjoyed Oscar's Resort Collection this year and I believe if you wanted to order from their Fall Collection you could do so at the same time. The alternations department is phenomenal. You can not see the work they do and they are cutting into $10K gowns and intricate beading. They will tailor anything you buy at Marios for you, which is a Godsend if your are shorter or taller than average. They also take care of you after purchase. Bring your Louboutins back for more red paint on the soles. My Laney sweater needed some reweaving... no problem, no charge. They always have the wine or Champagne chilled and waiting. HUGE dressing salons with room for all your girlfriends. They don't mind if you want to play with the jewelry like Liz Taylor. Ask for Andrea, she's the best. She has pitch perfect taste and knows exactly what will look the best on you. A lot of the these clothes look like nothing on the hanger, and Andrea can help you navigate the looks. read more

I don't wear vests or jackets with foil arabesque patterns, and I will be damned if I wear denim with one fabric horseshoe for each buttock. If and when the day should arrive that I want to dress like I'm approaching a midlife crisis at G forces, then I'll gladly shop stores other than Mario's. I suspect you'd also see me with bleach-blond spiky hair, skin the color of orange leather, and eyebrows that wish they were as perfect as a chola. But none of that is gonna happen anytime soon. I shop at Mario's because I like structured clothes that are made to last. People mock my penchant for Prada but my zip sweater pull looks as crisp as the day I bought it five years ago. Yes, the clothes are expensive, but the garment quality justifies the cost. A friend once told me, "People treat you better when you dress nice," and Mario's is the store that helps you get the respect you deserve. Every time I enter Mario's, a store employee promptly greets me with a smile. "Is there anything I can help you find today?" When I need assistance, a store employee is there to help. When I don't need assistance, I'm left alone. I only wish all my relationships were this simple. The staff will happily contact its sister store in Portland for stock and have it shipped to Seattle in a matter of days. The best part about Mario's: you receive a letter from Mario when you become a customer of his stores. When will you ever receive such gratitude from other stores in Seattle? Exactly. read more

I found Mario's on a day of desperation - my wedding was the next day, and I was missing a white tux shirt. My first try was Men's Wearhouse. They were very helpful but had absolutely nothing my size. It was as if there had been a run on 16/34-35 shirts. Weird! No problem, I went down the road and hit up the Nordstrom flagship store. If anyone should have what I need, it would be Nordstrom. But the first thing they say to me is "please tell me you're not looking for a 16/34-35". Ha! The fellow helping me was awesome, and spent a ton of time looking in the back room and calling around to other stores, but couldn't locate what I was looking for. What the heck? He recommended I try Mario's, which I'd never heard of. A little later in the day I managed to swing over to Mario's, and as soon as I walked in the door I knew I was in good hands. They welcomed me, guided me over to the tux shirts, and showed me the options. Very rapidly, we found a great shirt that would work - but after some rooting around, they realized they didn't have the shirt in my size. This was starting to seem like some strange conspiracy. :) Fortunately, they did have a 16/34-35 of my second choice shirt, but only the display model. No problem - sold! They pulled the shirt, steamed it, and put it in a nice suit bag (which came in handy later, in the rain). This may now be the nicest shirt I own. It fits wonderfully, and just feels SOLID. Going to Mario's made me realize how nice it can be to have high-quality men's clothes. If I lived in Seattle, I fear that Mario's would become an addiction. read more

Service: Everyone that has been working when I have been in Marios had excellent service. They probably have customers coming in on a regular basis that spend exponentially more then me, I maybe come in once every month or so and buy one thing or a pair of shoes. but all of the staff still remembers my name, treats me like Im one of their best customers, offers me a glass of sparkling water while I look around. All employees I have encountered are professional, polite and seem to enjoy their job. They deal with some of the top designer labels in the world and are never pretentious when I mis pronounce a designer and instead politely correct me and give me some background on the designer. Selection: High end, luxury designer clothing that is usually hard to find in seattle. Seems to be more oriented towards mens which is nice for us guys to have a store (although they carry women's as well). They have a broad range from casual street wear to tailored suits. What its good for: Shopping here is not for everyone as the price of clothing they carry can easily exceed $500 - $1000. If you have a passion for designer clothing or style you might enjoy browsing marios or if you have an occasion that it is very important you look good for. Beautiful store and a very nice selection of high end men's clothing. Fun to go in and look at the latest $7K Kiton cashmere sportcoats, for example. But don't expect much attention from the staff unless you are dressed well. That is OK because I'm mostly just browsing there anyway. (It's actually nice not to be hit on every five minutes like at Nordstroms.) The staff at the Portland Marios store are friendlier. For serious high end men's Italian clothing though, I go see Bernardo Cozza at Neiman Marcus in Bellevue. Besides being very friendly/personable, he knows what you are talking about when inquring about a limited edition Zegna "Venticinque" necktie or tailoring by Cesare Attolini. While going through a "makeover" of sorts, I visited Mario's several times this fall. The staff were very helpful, and Luke in particular, is down to earth and very easy to work with. In fact, he pretty much knows what you need before you do! The quality of the clothing is excellent. I had several items tailored, and the workmanship was exceptional. If you're looking for high-end quality clothing in Seattle, Mario's is a must on your shopping list. The only place I'll buy a Hugo Boss suit. I love this shop! I have never had a shopping experience here where I felt like I was being neglected. This review is my overall impression of all my shopping trips here. I don't really work with the same sales reps every time but my inconsistencies with who help me never equal an inconsistency in service. Rarely do I go into Mario's but seeing the sale sign on the door is enticing enough. We went in to browse the sale section and peek at the new collections. Unfortunately all the smaller sizes was unavailable and even on sale, the prices was still high. We were greeted by a few sale people but was left to our leisure to browse around. One older (Paul?) sale person offer us drinks but we decline because we have dinner reservation. Recently I needed to upgrade my wardrobe. At Mario's I met with Neda and came away with a closet full of great items. They were not inexpensive but due to Neda's sophistication and wisdom I ended up with versatile and stylish items that are great for me. I felt like I had a consultant not a sales person. I really like this place, they always make my boyfriend look good. The sales staff know what they are doing and it shows. Some think they are rude I on the other hand think they don't like wasting time, with people who have champagne taste with ice tea budgets. As a young guy who was dressed casually-but-neatly, I expected at least a "hi." 15 minutes of browsing around the Eton and Zegna tables solicited only blank looks from salespeople who must've thought I was a deer that had wondered into downtown and needed a slim-fitting dress shirt. I'll bet there are some really nice employees here, unfortunately I didn't get one. Within 30 seconds he was playing hardball trying to sell me a suit even though I was carrying one. Just needed a shirt and tie and he couldn't act more bothered with my request. Clearly an ex car salesman who's commission based brain had no time for customer service. I really wanted to like this place, I had some money to spend. I also asked if they could tailor a suit I bought elsewhere. I got shut down instantly with some mention of liability. I walked into Mario's with little hope of finding anything for my big barrel chested frame. I had been looking for days (Seattle is not a good place to look for clothes like this). In the best of shape I am still a 46 and in the worst of shape (so far) a 50L. I entered with great anxiety and sure enough my feeling was validated when the first two salesman totally blew me off. OK so I was wearing a T-shirt and shorts but I was with my bro who was in a very nice suit (my personal shopper that day hehe). We looked around for some time and then we walked into the Hugo Boss department and I met my savior. Antony approached with confidence and was right away different from the other sales staff. I was immediately at ease around him and he quickly had two suits in mind for me. The first was a Hugo Boss. Well once long ago old Hugo had full cut suits but that day is no more! Strike one. Antony was not discouraged and we walked back across the store to the Italian suits that I first approached when I walked in. He pulled a beautiful Canali suit off the rack. When I pulled this lovely jacket on I knew this was my suit! It was built for my big shoulders..I tried on the trousers and they where a perfect fit. This was a dream come true. I've only shopped the men's section, and love their Hugo Boss shop. Very helpful staff and pretty decent selection of nicer clothes and brands. I was with a friend trying casual jackets and pants though, and he asked if they had his size and the salesman said "well, it's tough given your size (he's probably a 38 xl, tall guy, not overweight just big) you might want to lose a few pounds to make sure you can always get your size. We were both so shocked and horrified. I don't even think he realized what he said or that it came out outloud or he was trying to be funny. Ouch. I love Mario's during sale seasons - great finds at great prices. Sales people can be a bit pretentious upstairs at the women's department but overall is with the trip. Ask for the parking coins when shop there - works for City Center, Pacific Place, and Hyatt parking garage. read more

They do carry great brands however don't expect ANY service. my husband and I were completely ignored and ended up spending $550 anyway. Ridiculous. I'll never return. Nordstrom service is amazing. read more
