Three steps into this place and we thought we were entering an S&M store...six steps in we knew were to go for a steampunk themed get together...after exploring for a bit, we found a place where there was plenty to keep just about anyone busy. The lady working here was very nice and told us the place was the coming together of two adjacent stores, Panache Clothing and New York Exchange I believe. It's hard to nail down exactly what this place is - Part costume store, part specialty store, part fashion boutique. If you're looking for just about everything from a formal top hat to a skimpy leather outfit, some designer shoes or a knife you'd see in Underworld, they've probably got it. It feels uniquely Seattle and it was a fun place to spend 20 minutes! We were looking for a hat specifically as it was stereotypically raining outside. The selection was rather vast and included bowlers hats, townie type caps and some boss level top hats! In the back, we even found an American flag themed Fedora for $5 - Win! While most of the stuff here isn't our dig, the place has a cool vibe, the employees were very chill and there was plenty to look at and try on, plus you'll probably find something you didn't know you needed. read more

About an hour ago I was kicked out of your store for doing little more than, and I poop you not, shopping. I was looking around and the douche machine clerk asked me if I was shopping to which I replied, "Yes." He then asked me to leave for reasons beyond explanation. Mind you, I am a repeat customer and was actually wearing clothes I had purchased from your store, months ago - a sweater I purchased for $90. I also have another sweater I purchased for the same price. I shop at your store because I like Marilyn Manson, Skinny Puppy, NIN, and KMFDM. Those details may seem irrelevant, however, the idea is a safe haven for like minded people to find and enjoy fashion, and preferably, not be discriminated against. Advice: don't kick paying customers out of your store. It's ridiculous and a great way to deter purchases and customer transactions in the future (DUH!). I work in customer service. I deal with people scamming me, threatening me, my car was once stolen on the clock, people screaming, crying, using their poo turds as crayons to write their mothers name on the wall - you name it, I've dealt with it. That said, whomever it was working when I was asked to leave for no good reason, was a SUPREME. DOUCHE. I could tell he probably had a double digited IQ and was frightened by my awesome Type O Negative t shirt and pajamas as I lolligagged in an honest search of something new to wear, a search now halted and to never be revisited, because I don't like posers treating me like crap and kicking me out of their store for reasons undisclosed, mind you - a paying customer, WEARING SOMETHING he had previously purchased FROM the store he's being booted from. They have lots of nice guys clothes, Pride gear and a lot of the merchandise is fairly reasonable in price. The clearance sales they have in the back of the store are amazing! I just bought several pairs of pants recently elsewhere but I will come back here when I need more. They have lots of styles I really like! read more

Was in the area checking out more places to eat when I saw about 6 racks outside with $5 shirts, $15 shorts, and other goodies. Had to come in a take a gander. There were cool, inexpensive clothes in here that are stylish yet not too outrageous. The rest of reviews were right, the sizes were way off so make sure you try on all the clothes you plan to buy. A medium shirt fit like a small and a large fit like a medium. Men's pants 32 was more like 28 and so forth. Other items worth noting: Stylish underwear with a "special" front pouch for the hardware (that is what the label says!!). Some funky looking underwear, neat hats, fashionable jewelry, shoes are all there. The quality itself is not high as you get what you pay for. But for us peasants, it'll do! Ended up with a pair of shoes, bracelet, cap and a shirt for a little over a hundred dollars. read more

I was on a quest for black satin full length gloves. As I passed by Panache (on my way to Metro), I was beguiled by all the sparkly and brilliant masquerade masks left over from Halloween. You can't beat a good deal and Panache is all about 'em! I live right nearby and some days when I'm headed to the grocery store or the bank I can't help but get sucked through their doors. Who can resist the signs announcing that dresses, shoes, accessories, etc are on sale for at little as $5! I've only shopped here a few times but I've found that they have a pretty decent selection. Being a fat betch there's really no reason for me going in here I know nothing is going to fit me, well except maybe some shoes or accessories. But to be truthful of the women's clothing I've seen in there I'm really glad nothing fits me. It's all kind of on the cheap and trashy side if you ask me. GBF#1 on the other hand loves the store and so when ever we brunch it up on the hill we stop in here. He loves their men shirts and I let him because I'm nice like that sometimes. To me Panache is like the gay forever 21, disposable clothes for the season or in some cases the night. Daddy needs a new pair of shoes. Panache means a dash or flamboyance in style and action. This small boutique has many fashionable items such as clothing, shoes and jewellery for both men and women. The men's clothing line is little too flamboyant for my taste but I am a huge fan of their shoes. I needed new shoes to go with my jeans. I look for stylish dress boots with a zipper on the side that goes well with jeans and I can always find them here. I came here right after dinner and the lady staff said they were closing in 10 minutes. She still was very helpful in getting me the two sizes to try on, and check me out with the goods. Absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life! I am starting a yelp account just for this. My girlfriend purchased a hat and a pair of gloves from there for a costume 2 days ago. We didn't end up using either and came back today to ask about a return. When we got there we were greeted by a polite man who told us that normally they don't take items back but they would make an exception. We asked if we could have our money back when a balding middle aged man came around the corner and referred us to the return policy on the receipt. RETURN POLICY RETURNS UP TO 14 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE STORE CREDIT OR EXCHANGES ITEMS MUST HAVE TAGS So now he is lying. Why would he tell us that normally they wouldn't even take it back and that they were going to make an exception. We told him that we didn't see that they had that policy and asked them where they have that posted. He showed us a sign that was out of view from the register. We told him that we wouldn't have purchased from them if we had known their policy. He then got angry and very condescending and started asking us if we do that at Urban Outfitters. I asked for a manager and he told us that he was the owner. He started shouting at us saying that nobody states their return policy before a sales transaction and told us that we could even get store credit anymore and told us to leave. Stumbled upon this place while walking through Capital Hill. What grabbed my attention were the sale signs (50% off everything). There were some cute and trendy items as well as the wardrobe staples/basics. While nice not entirely sure about the quality of them items and would not have purchased anything if it wasn't 50% off. First time in here a couple of days ago, the lady was polite and asked to put my carry-on behind the counter (she said it'll be easier to get through the racks). Nobody was in there and it felt "safe". I bought a flannel since it's so cold here, but knew I wanted to come back to check the rest of the store out. Second time in there today and there was a new lady, also nice. Everything is 60% off right now due to remodeling and although not everything is worth the price, I walked out with a handful of items in a big bag bout $55. *I'm satisfied with this shopping experience. Three stars for hilarious, for bringing to us mortals the joys of looking at the word SALE pretty much for ten months in a row, for the year-round OONZ, OONZ, OONZ they give to people that walks by, and the Christmas merengue music they play non-stop while the "most wonderful time of the year" happens. Ryan and I spend a lovely, sunny afternoon yesterday just walking around Capitol Hill. Espresso Vivace: stop. Crazy Berry: Stop. Sexy store: stop. Other shops: walked by. Panache: Definitely stop. "Let's check it out," we said, in unison. Ryan was nice enough to also add "it doesn't look that bad from afar". OK. I think we're all missing the point of Panache. I truly believe it's like a sex store for those that love, well, sex stuff...Panache would be for people who like to disguise, and have a thing for costumes. There is a place for everybody, and I'm pretty sure Panache deeply fulfills someone's desires and tastes. We had fun perusing the racks. Everything is cheap, cheap, cheap and honestly, fun to watch. I envisioned us as characters in a play about suave and tacky Fabios with lots of hair gel on their heads, and vulnerable, glittery-pitchy-bimbos who love corsets and spandex. If we were to perform it, the styling SHOULD be done here. No question about it. This store gave us some good minutes of entertainment. I even spotted a couple of dresses that weren't made with poly and had potential. They also had some cute jewelry pieces. What cracked me up was the plethora of (mmm, how should I say this...) of, of, of...Italian inspired, pointy men's shoes. I used to adore Panache;but, alas, it has become a bit too; should I say it? ok, Hoochy for my taste.The quality is alright. The styles are a bit tacky. I found a nice t shirt for my husband until I looked at the back. I really don't think he would want to wear a "I'm a sexy beast" shirt, I don't care if it was 50% silk and 75% off. So, I shall treasure my fuzzy bittersweet sweater, my velvet pants and the wicked boots I bought two years ago. If you pay full price for anything here you are a complete dumb ass. I mean seriously they have more sales then Macy's... whatever. Anyways, they have some cute stuff and some pretty wicked hot guy clothe's but I rarely buy anything here other ethen accessories and jewelery (cause I'm a total whore for both and cannot resist such things as 40% off). The shop people are pretty friendly overall but I think they are pretty maxed out what with the store being as packed with stuff as it is and there are always tons of people in there. This normally wouldn't be my type of store, but I have to say I was really impressed by how dirt cheap everything was. A lot of what they have for men is that sort of stylish stuff that skinny cool kids, but some of it was pretty nice looking, not terribly over the top, and so amazing cheap. Lot's of thin linen button down shirts and buttery soft tees for only $5 - and much of what I saw was actually made in the USA, so it's probably not the "sweatshop" junk some might think it is. They had some really nice rings, bracelets, and other jewelry for men - but a lot of this stuff was almost kid-sized, as the ring I had my eye on the most barely fit on my pinkie (and I've got pretty slim fingers). I'd say it's worth a look, even if you're not a dance club hopping twenty-something. read more

Panache is unique in a few ways: Most every thing is always on sale for really cheap. Most every thing is unique and has sequins or random zippers. The staff is a little quirky but always friendly. I enjoy this store just because I can find random things that are just to fun or odd so I have to by them and they turn into quite the unique outfit by the time things are said and done. read more

You're a hip, funky, kitchy Broadway clothing store, maybe not exactly my type of clothing, but I get it. What I don't get, however, is why your door needs to be wide open on a 30ºF night, with the same annoying iTunes mix of Madonna, the B-52s et al. playing seemingly on an infinite loop at full volume from sun up until sundown. Maybe you're the greatest thing on Capitol Hill, who knows, but everyone living and working within a three-block radius of you needn't be reminded of it all day, everyday. The bars and restaurants surrounding you manage to be good neighbors. How about giving those around you a break? And the whole woman-perched-on-a-stool-on-the-sidewalk thing? More sweatshop junk. Those "$5 sales" aren't loss leaders. That's probably twice what this crap cost Panache's buyer, at most. In a massive spending spree, I literally had cash in hand, and COULD NOT FIND ONE THING, not on the sidewalk, not inside, that I could feel good about buying. I knew it would feel bad. Badly cut, badly sewn, bad fabric. I knew it would fall apart. Why would I spend $5, $10, $20 on a "disposable" garment? Oh, right, because of THE SMELL. Polyester and more polyesther, and "cotton blend" which means POLYESTER, cheap junk that soaks up stinky indoles from bacterial degradation of fats and proteins in sweat that can't escape a polyester-blocked dancing armpit. And it never lets go, so why even bother trying to wash it out? Just throw that $5, $10, $20 away in the trash. And there go the sweatshop junk clothes to LANDFILLS. This crap is piling up in landfills, human beings waste their lives making it, and we're throwing away money that could... really improve our lives. The worst economic breakdown of our time is just rounding the corner. This is the Great Depression without the honesty, the good neighbors, and the friendly helping hands, because 90% of everyone's petulantly licking "I'm Not Rich???" wounds after 30 years of being fed the "value" of worshiping Being Rich above all. I completely love this store. They have a really fun selection of clothing at great prices- lots of fun bright colors and prints, definitely my style. They also carry a TON of sparkly blingy jewelry at super low prices, most of what I wear regularly has come from this store and I coudln't be happier with it! Well, the jewelry tends to break somewhat easily, but when you only paid $2 for a ring then it's pretty easy to go out and replace it! There is also a nice selection of shoes that make me want to learn how to walk in heels. read more

I had just been informed that I was spending New Year's Eve at a "cocktail party" and was trying to figure out what the hell one is supposed to wear to a cocktail party full of early-twenty-somethings who party like they're still in college. A dress? Jeans and a sweater? As I was mulling this over and driving home from work, I passed Panache. I'd told myself I'd never go there because their music is so freaking obnoxious and so loud you can probably hear it from Shoreline, but their signs proclaiming "Everything 50% Off!" (and the fact that I needed something to wear and felt I had nothing suitable) actually worked. It's tiny and cramped inside, and I can't even count the number of people I ran into with my purse (or my body). I had to wait for one of the three fitting rooms for about ten minutes (not terrible, but slightly irritating because I was in a 30-minute parking space), and I had to listen to what was probably THE most annoying couple in the world talking at the top of their lungs the entire time. I'll spare you the details of their annoying-ness, but just trust me on that. The upside? The staff was nice enough, but not so "nice" that they didn't leave me alone, and I managed to score a dress for $2.50 (now, will I ever actually WEAR it? That remains to be seen...) and a nice top for NYE for about $14. Paired with my dark skinny jeans and black boots, it was quite the hot little item and will quickly be integrated into my "what to wear when I want to look hot" wardrobe. Some of their clothes are kind of "WTF?" but if you're looking for cheap deals, it doesn't seem like a bad place to at least check out... if your eardrums can stand it. read more

I've only been here once, but already i had a list of items that I wanted from this store. From their funky urban hats, to stylish collared shirts, they seemed to have a bunch of things that I'd been hunting for, and are nearly impossible to find in Capitol Hill. That's not to say that everything is great; there are some really odd styles in this store that previous reviewers have mentioned below. Still, given their unique assortment of clothing, and at half the price from some places in the various malls of this region, I'd say it's a great place to stop by once in a while. this...This...THIS! *gestures wildly at* I tried to be cool when I went into this place, in a manner befitting an aging urban hipster wannabe. But this plan fell apart when I saw how awesome it was. Within minutes of seeing the Men's selection and SIZES on hand my demeanor deteriorated to that of a six week old puppy. But if you've ever walked into an alt-underground store and found just ONE shirt you like in XS you can forgive me. I really just came in to find a top but I was stopped at a table of stretchable, slim fit Barabas pants. They had everything from 30's up to a size 40 and I had a choice made in minutes. I then faced off with a half dozen racks of men's shirts to choose from. The staff was excellent. There were none of the lid-eyed judgy looks an old guy like me is used to. They were helpful and chatty without hovering. When Alissa showed me the STACKED boxes of shoes and boots (yes Demonia) in the back I was awe struck. When she pointed out the reversible men's sequin jacket (3 sizes available) I knew I was through the looking glass. I resisted that temptation, settling for a sparkly bow tie instead. Then I tried to get past the Alchemy ring selection but was bested by its quality and selection. I can't recommend this place enough. A GREAT place to go to when they have sales. I really enjoyed my shopping experience there recently. The manager and employees are very friendly and helpful! Personally, I would only shop the sales section. They have quite a few eccentric items and clothing/accessories that you probably won't find at other places (except maybe their jeans or jeggings). From what I've observed their apparel is on the delicate side so a regular wash won't do; hand washing would be the best alternative. I don't mind a few items like that and it's cute stuff! I like the clothing choices they have. The sizing is a bit different (or so I was told - European vs American fit), so be sure to ask a sales associate about sizing differences. If you're in the area, it would be a good idea to stop by and see if it suits your tastes. read more

My husband, baby and I were enjoying our day shopping in Capital Hill yesterday while visiting Seattle. My 6 mo old was hungry so I found a quiet bench in the store to sit and nurse while my husband shopped.The store manager, Jennifer, approached me and asked if I "wouldn't mind relocating to a dressing room" to nurse. I said I did mind. It was hot and that did not sound comfortable. She then launched into a loud tirade about how she knows the law and her store is not a restaurant so I had to move to the dressing room. I told my husband that we were leaving and not purchasing anything from this store. She then got louder and louder attempting to explain "the law" and drawing a lot of unwanted attention to me as we attempted to leave the store. It was very embarrassing. Once we left, I took the time to look up the law and discovered that what she did was not only against the law in Washington, but that Seattle specifically has an ordinance that protects the rights of breastfeeding moms that says you CANNOT ask a nursing mother to cover up or move to another location. Her justification is that she is a small shop and that it was making other customers uncomfortable. The only thing I saw making people uncomfortable was her yelling and causing a scene. She also indicated on video that she had had a similar altercation with a previous customer who breastfed in her store 2 months ago. So this is a recurring issue. Anyone who asks you to hide while breastfeeding is basically saying that what you are doing is dirty and shameful. I feel like I was shamed in the most public way possible for doing the most natural thing I could do. Even if other customers complained, which I doubt based on what I saw, it is the owner's job to know the law and educate her customers. It's no different than explaining why a customer may come in to a store with a service animal. How is it as a culture we are ok with the breasts being exposed in bikinis and other cleavage exposing clothing all around us, but when the same amount of a mother's breast is showing while nursing her child it is unacceptable and needs to be hidden away? The tides are changing and I applaud the Seattle city council for taking extra steps to ensure the rights of breastfeeding mothers. If more and more women feel comfortable feeding their child in public then eventually it will be so commonplace that no one will give it a second glance. Stores like this set us back and cause women to fear being shamed. I hope the store manager can educate herself, stop breaking the law, and start being as progressive as the city she lives in. read more

really fun selection of all kinds of things... clothing, accessories, masquerade masks... i was drawn in by the masquerade masks displayed in the window, but upon seeing how much they cost, my eyes nearly fell out of their sockets O_O they sell pre-decorated masks that range from simple to elaborate, but all are very expensive ranging from about $15 to well over $50. they also have blank masks that you can buy and decorate yourself if you want. their selection is great if you have a flashy and funky kind of style, but if that is not your thing, then you might not find much in this store. if i had more $$ to throw around, i might have purchased a mask.... :P read more

The bf and I stopped in because they were playing Madonna's Confessions On a Dance Floor. What can I say? I am a Madonna fan whore :) I've been in here before to buy some girly stuff for a friend as a gift and tonight bought a cute winter hat and some wooden trinkets. The store was neat and orderly and the mens clothing looked attractive and priced just right at 50% off. But because well monies tight I didn't feel right about parting with too much. Panache is all about modern styles and fancy looks at low prices. They've got stylish shoes, jeans, coats, and shirts for the fellas, and some lovely dresses and accesories for the ladies. Again, the prices are super inexpensive. I want to say it's mostly "disposable clothing" made in China but I'm loving the jackets I've bought there so far, and my lady wears her super-cheap sweat pants almost every day as her chillax-gear. No stray threads or worn out zippers yet. Lastly, the sales ladies here are all very helpful and friendly. read more

I stopped in here today for the first time and I gotta say, I'm impressed. I was greeted right away and informed of their half off sale they are having right now. All clothes are half off the lowest price! Really can't beat that, especially when their prices are reasonable to begin with. I got a cute sweater and a hoodie cape thing for only ten bucks! They have a pretty big store with a lot of different things, from more casual to dressy. The staff is really friendly and welcoming, I love a place where I can chat with the people working a bit, where it doesn't feel cold. Even found out I live in the same building as one of the employees! Small world :) I'll definitely be back! read more

Panache has unique clothes and accessories selling at way below mass produced or designer label costs. Three weeks ago I bought, with the help of Roy, a one of a kind top and very comfortable shoes (by Splash!). I am generally a size 7 1/2 in shoes; however, I had Roy going back for the next 1/2 size up twice before I settled on a size 8 1/2. I continued to explain I was not the kind who SAYS she's a size 7 1/2 and then finally gets crammed into a 9. Another clerk kindly explained different brands are differently sized, and Roy was very kind and continued to get me larger sizes with a friendly attitude. He also said they expanded to fit, which was helpful. They did indeed, so where I fit a full size larger than normal, they are incredibly comfortable and my favorite "color," plaid! I will be seeking more Splash shoes because of Panache. read more

I went here looking for a different style of clothes and was taking pictures to get a friend's opinion. A rude staff member told me I couldn't take pictures. I guess this store didn't need my business. I left without spending anything - guess i will stick with Abercrombie. read more

Shame on all those bad reviews - what's wrong with "hoochy" now and again? Even if you would never wear 90% of what's on the racks, this place is still worth the occasional visit because you just might find that perfect night-out ensemble for under thirty bucks. read more
