Cheese with no chicken in the dip
    Christina B.

I used to love their Buffalo Chicken Dip but tonight I noticed it's literally all cheese. Where's the chicken? I complained to the bartender and he was like it's minced. I did not order cheese and fired pita. Big disappointment!! They need to do better. Been going here for over 10 years. Not surprised that another group complained while here. Still the same response. Smh!

Went there to find Jack Reacher. This was a shooting location for one of the bar scenes. Food was good a great value. There is parking, but you will have to look and get lucky!

The four star rating is based primarily on the food I have had here. Mario's definitely has some issues, from it being freezing or a sweat box inside, to it having an odd smell. The bartenders are not the most friendly either. However, I have had some great times in this bar and it is a staple of Carson Street. It is a fun place to watch a game or just to get some drinks with friends. Make sure to spin the wheel. Now to the food. I have never had anything at Mario's that I did not think was very good. For appetizers I would highly recommend the buffalo chicken dip. It is hot, creamy, and has a delicious flavor. It comes with flatbread pieces which are crispy but soft on the inside and go perfect with the dip. They used to have a spicy crab dip which was one of the best dips I have ever had. Wish they would bring it back. For my main dish I have ordered a burger the last couple of times. Years ago I remember they had very subpar burgers. They weren't fresh and had a generic taste. However they have made some changes and now have some delicious burgers. The burger I ordered last time was more cooked to medium than my preferred medium rare, but this did not make that big of a difference because the burger was juicy and had a great flavor. The meat tastes like it is ground fresh daily which makes a huge difference. The bun they chose was also a perfect choice and held up everything well. Finally, their fries were fresh cut style and very good. They also have some of the best ranch dressing around...perfect with the fries.

Mario's sells food? Now see, this is what happens when you make the same bar your last stop of the night every time you go out. You miss important tidbits of information. I've never had a bad experience at Mario's, but then again, I've also never come in without a Pens jersey on. People are really, really nice to you in Pittsburgh when you're wearing Sidney Crosby on your back. Mario always has great drink specials. Everyday is beer related except Tuesday, so if you're trying to turn up then always remember: beer before liquor, never been sicker! Liquor before beer, you're in the clear! $2 wells means Mario cannot be your last stop on a Tuesday. I've realized that the hard way. This is a two story bar, but if the Southside is not hoppin' (which is rare), the second floor will either be closed off or so damn boring there's no point in going upstairs. There's usually a good mixture of young professionals and UPitt seniors in the lower floor, so if you're a mingler you can stay near the main bar and make new friends. Mario's isn't for everyone. It's just one of those bars that will rub a lot of people the wrong way; they're unapologetically Pittsburgh and they thrive on being a Southside icon. But it's also one of those bars that will have a special place in your heart if you love it. Mario's will always have a spot with me. Now where's my captain & sprite?

In from out of town, we needed a spot to hang. A local recommended this place. Great call! They have a shot wheel that we took too much of an advantage of. Great hang out spot with a decent beer selection. The bartenders were a little fed up with us which I don't understand because we had 3-4 girls with us. Oh well, I'd go back in a heart beat.

Mario's is a great place to go on a Saturday night! It's a huge area with many different bar areas along with seating. They also have weekly event nights such as trivia and karaoke. It's definitely a bar in which many young people come to (esp. during university semesters!) I never thought of Mario's as a place to enjoy a good meal, and wow did I miss out! The food at mario's is well priced, served quickly, and delicious!! They give huge serving sizes, and everything tastes great! Mario's provides a great deal during happy hours and throughout the week with both beer and food. I definitely recommend this bar for both a night out and the dinner beforehand!

Yes I am a fan of Mario's! Last year I was quite the regular. I knew all the bartenders and would come for every Pens game or football game. One main reason I would frequent so often was because it was my hangout where everyone knows your name and I wanted to catch the Hockey players when they were out. OK I was a little star struck but it wears off! This bar was voted best college bar and sports bar of 2010 so I think that says a lot. Last year I was in party mode and if you are into that scene here is where the meat market takes place. Jocks and those chasing jocks from neighboring colleges pretty much live here. It is a busy bar almost any night of the week so if you want to be immersed in a crowd and you have someone visiting from out of town bring them here instead of some dead dive bar. I believe that Mario Lemieux owns this bar so it is decorated in player Jerseys and sports memorabilia. The space is big so you will always have a view of the game no matter where you are. TVs are all over. I prefer to sit at the bar but if you want to do that, get there a little earlier, very early if you are planning for playoffs. They have tots! I love tater tots and they've got em' yumm. They also have many more apps and bar food. I don't consider it to be fine dining it's comfort food that tastes good with beers. Goblet night, $2 beers during game time, trivia, random goof off night, tasty shooters(blue sweet tarts)...those are the things that make Mario's shine. I have to get my game face on because Mario's it's ON!

I wanted to place a carryout order. I first tried online but there was a glitch somewhere in the system. I called instead. When the phone was answered, the background noise was intense. It was so loud that the employee couldn't hear me. At that point I decided to just go in and order. When I walked into Urban Tap, the noise was almost deafening. Music blaring, voices raised to be heard. No one was using their "inside voices", they couldn't. I sat at the bar to order. I never got waited on. I finally caught the attention of one of the bartenders and was ready to place an order. We leaned towards each other, yelling to try to be heard. I couldn't hear her when she read back my order. I really wasn't sure what I'd be getting. Unfortunately, I did get what I ordered - brunch breads and an order of biscuits. It took quite a while to get food - no surprise there. I checked our food when I got it. Oh Lordy, those biscuits looked good. This southern girl appreciates a good biscuit and did these look good. I got the food to the car and we headed out on the next leg of our adventure. About an hour later, I just had to grab one of those golden, flaky discs. Butter? Jam? Nah, the biscuits looked like they could solo on their own. I took one bite and my eyes flew open - not from the deliciousness, it was because of the sheer amount of salt. That can't be right so I took another small bite. I tried a teeny bite of the next biscuit. Salt. The biscuits were inedible. No, I don't mean that I didn't like the flavor. They contained so much salt that there was no way someone could eat these. That's ok, there was the banana bread French toast. It looked a little dark in color but it never crossed my mind that this might not be normal. I took a bite. It tasted odd, off, something wasn't right. My husband pegged it - it was burned. Before grilling or after? No idea. There were also a couple of donut holes. Not even worthy of a second bite. I also ordered fruit. It was good but still not enough to save the meal from dismal failure. We won't be back .

It was beyond that The French onion soup we saw online and everyone seemed to enjoy that. We're whores for it so had to get. I like mine a tad bit salty which this was and PACKED with onion chunks and breaded leeks on top. It was impossible to get a spoon fully without any inclusions. My new favorite The Tavern Burger. I'm coming fresh off 9 years without 5 Guys (elite) and this rocked me harder than that. This isn't a stupid smash burger. We got a juicy COOKED PERFECT RARE 8oz patty, topped with sautéed onions, and bacon that isn't crisped to smithereens. I like my bacon medium rare and that's exactly what I got. The smoke and meatiness on them was so nailed that I could get 2 dozen plain and still have the same reaction. We got the Buffalo Garlic and Dry Cajun Ranch. These wings don't need drenched in sauce by any means or it would honestly ruin it. The buffalo doesn't ned to be creamy either. Perfect amount of sauce to cheese ration. The dry cajun ranch was a fucking knockout. For how great the wing is I would love to see more dry season options with them Cam got a Tavern Dip. I hate dips. I loved the shaved ribeye on it and horseradish, but I have never been an Au Jus man. Would 100000% eat it without the au jus Then the fries. Always team psoriasis through and through. Not sure if I'm coming off the Five Guys high but their cajun boardwalk style are even better. Get some spicy honey aioli to dip them in. Truly just shocked at how amazing this place is.
