The very first time I came here, I tried something and didn't like it, but I won't even list the item here since I think it was more an issue of MY taste than of it not being GOOD. The bread is so fluffy and delicious, and all the vegetables make it a light but filling lunch. I've been here before but decided to try some new things! This is a small cafe, and your order can take a while to come out. The cashier was super friendly and helpful as I placed my order. I was super impressed with my sandwich- the pretzel bun had a nice bite to it and went perfectly with the creamy mozzarella and pesto chicken! I also thought the drink (seasonal) was really balanced, and I could taste all the different components. Space can be limited since it gets quite busy, so I definitely recommend grabbing a table if you can! read more

Went to Mariposa for the first time today. I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk. I took a sip, and it was whole milk, not oat. I went up to the young female at the counter and let her know I had asked for oat, but she had made my drink with whole milk. She insisted that I ordered whole, not OAT. I said, are you sure? and she insisted. She stared back at me, and did not even offer to make me a new drink. Just kept insisting I said whole and not oat. I know I said oat, but regardless, I was clearly unhappy with my drink, and she did not offer me any fix/solution. I walked out and put the matcha latte in the trash. I will never go back there - it's really too bad the service is not better and the baristas more accommodating. All she had to do was offer to make me a new latte. read more

I wandered in here today for a late lunch and went in blind- I know that Mariposa has been around for a long time and I even used to live in central for a number of years and still somehow managed to miss trying it until today. The line had two people waiting ahead of, and no one else waiting in line. I asked about their soup of the day, and then decided to get their veggie bahn mi sandwich and a London fog. I waited about 15 minutes for my sandwich, which wasn't completely crazy, but given how slow it was it seemed like longer than needed. When my name was called, I went up and they had my sandwich. I asked if they also had my London fog- and the counter person gave me a very blank look and said "one minute." Then she went and consulted with the guy who seemed to be doing dishes/food prep and then looked back through her tablet. (I assume she was double checking my order). She didn't update me... she just made the drink and then gave it to me a few minutes later. I'd assume that when I place an order they'd make the drink first? I was surprised that it was so slow and not only did I wait 15 minutes, but they got the order wrong by forgetting about my drink. I spent $17 total, so I feel like at that price point my order should have been handled better. The London fog and sandwich were both delicious... but probably not anything I couldn't live without. read more

Our first breakfast in Cambridge was at Mariposa Bakery, an easy walk from our Airbnb. I had the fantastic sunrise sandwich on a cheese bagel with egg, cheese, turkey bacon, fresh greens, tomato, and pesto aioli, and my husband had an egg sandwich with housemade turkey sausage on an everything bagel. Both sandwiches were really fresh and tasty. We also split a delicious raspberry muffin to go with their excellent drip coffee and an iced Americano. Came by on a Saturday morning and the place was decently busy, but the wait wasn't long to place an order and get something to go. Nothing in the baked goods section was labeled, but the cashier was kind and patient as she answered any questions I had about the various pastries. Ordering was quick and easy while the wait for my drink and muffin was pretty fast. Both items were pretty solid taste wise and I found them to be good deals for their prices. I would definitely come by again perhaps to try some of their other baked goods or to sit down and have a proper brunch. I really enjoyed the breakfast sandwich I got from Mariposa today! I got the Mariposa breakfast sandwich and added turkey sausage to it and it was on a pretzel roll -- sooo yummy. I will say with the turkey sausage it came out to be ~$16 which my bank account didn't like, but before I added that I believe it was $12. I also got a cold brew which was good. The food came out fairly quickly and the waitresses were nice! I studied there for a few hours until they closed, and it was a nice environment for that - they have different sized tables, wifi, and outlets. Overall a solid study spot I'd recommend. read more

Nice. I'd like to hit this place up for a little pre-lunchtime lunch. I'm not a fan of waiting in lines. A fairly limited menu and great coffee options. In a lot of cases, I might say that having this limited of a menu is not good. But everything they make they just knock right out of the park. In this case, a limited menu means they are doing those items really well. A lunch of a sandwich and a coffee usually runs me about 20 bucks with tip. I have never had a long wait after ordering and the staff has always been pleasant and informative. The place is clean and on a nice day it's a great place to sit and People watch. Despite the limited menu, they seem to have some thing for everyone. Vegetarian option. Vegan option. Conventional option. Highly recommend a visit for a light bite. I'm a regular at Mariposa since I live nearby and it always has seating to do work+ a nice atmosphere. The first few times I've been here I actually disliked it (they've since fixed their chai lattes and I've never bumped into another 30+ minute wait again). That being said, Mariposa has grown on me and is now one of my go-to cafes in the neighborhood. The employees are incredibly sweet and it's an accommodating place. There are many other regulars who come and spark conversation and the cafe also works to be involved in the Central Square community via hanging local art on their walls and hosting events. Drink and food wise, my usual order is their iced matcha latte with oat milk and their Mariposa breakfast sandwich. I always dream of their pretzel bun and ketchup sauce. All their pastries that I've tried are great as well. Their drinks are more of a hit or miss. I recently tried their rose latte with a friend and they confused which one was decaf and which one was caffeinated, and it was sickly sweet. Had I sipped it before leaving I would have asked them to fix it but I didn't try it until I got home. The one time I tried a chai latte I think their machine wasn't working well because it was very watered down. Also, no one warned me not to order a matcha latte with sesame milk (not a good combo) until I mentioned it in retrospect. Now that I've visited this place often enough, I hope that my feedback is seen as helpful and not harmful since I still do love this place. If they don't make your item according to your preference, don't be afraid to ask them to fix it. I have many good memories here and appreciate this cafe! read more

Mariposa Bakery is timely, efficient and easy to work with. I called them three days before a friends birthday with a very specific order- confetti cake. No Boston area bakery that I had called so far was able to accommodate this order on such short notice-- except Mariposa Bakery. Thanks to their flexibility, I was able to pick up the cake the day before my friend's birthday. She was absolutely delighted by the cake as was everyone who saw it. The icing was DELICIOUS and beautifully added. The actual cake was not as soft/moist as expected, but that may have been because I took it out of the fridge too early. It doesn't matter if there is a long line or I'm the only person, it always takes a good 20 minutes to get my order. I always end up going back because I really do enjoy the italian chicken sandwich and shortbread cookies. The sandwich is huge and I love the combination of fresh mozz, chicken, and arugula. They have a fairly decent food and coffee/tea menu, and the reason I go here is because they have a specialty called the "Grilled cheese of the day". Most of these are actually really good at a decent price. As far as the coffees go, they are okay. I wouldn't say that the coffee and coffee drinks are exceptional but they aren't terrible. I occasionally have the Mexican mocha if I feel like a different drink than just black coffee and it is so-so. If you feel like you need to have a place to meet up with people and have a nice talk, this is a good place for that. If you're into artisanal coffee, probably not the best place. read more

The toast was toast but the chicken was dry and the sauce couldn't save it. The workers were super friendly and the guy making my food offered me a free baked good because it took so long. I needed a spot to have a quick business meeting and found Mariposa Bakery! Glad I did! You walk into the store and you are greeted with a very warehouse-themed coffee shop with cute chairs and art deco. The baristas were very friendly and the prices were very reasonable. Seating is available with a lot of windows so it is bright and fun to hang out. I ordered the iced coffee and was glad that I did. It was made very strong, and they offer several types of milks for you to doctor your drinks up! I also ordered the cookies, which were home made and fun to eat! With a lengthy wait over at Veggie Delight just a few doors (maybe a full block) down, me and my travel buddies decided to warm up and finish our wonderful weekend with some fresh baked goodies from Mariposa. We ordered the pressed vegetarian (fresh arugula, red peppers, red onions, mozzarella and pesto aoili) on pretzel bread. The bread alone was magnificent! It held the consistency and flavor of a pretzel - just baked into a bread. Served warm with the balance of fresh vegetables, this sandwich was absolutely divine. I was so taken by the sandwich, I didn't get to truly experience my mocha. I'm a simple woman, so I did appreciate the relaxed atmosphere, brick exposed walls and rustic wooden floors. There are few things I enjoy eating as much as the avocado on pretzel sandwich from Mariposa. This is a real bakery, meaning that the goods are made from scratch and fresh daily and the pride taken in the pastries on display is abundantly evident in the quality. Just don't roll in late if you want to find a full selection. Since this is an honest to goodness bakery, they bake daily, and when it's gone it's gone. The sandwiches are always huge (see picture) and the Seedy Bread is the best bread I've ever had. No joke, its amazing. While I was reading and eating three people ordered the roasted eggplant sandwich. The menu says its tossed with a cucumber / yogurt / mint dressing and garnished with roasted cherry tomatoes... if your mouth isn't watering then something is wrong with you, seriously.
