Pacific Street Cafe is one of the few places in the MIT industrial park area that are open to the public. I have come here quite a few times since its opening for lunch and coffee, and have tried a few of their lunch specials, sandwiches, panini, salads, pastries, and the several types of coffee they offer. I've been drinking Chai since I was six years old, and there are few things in life I hold to a higher standard. Most chais I've tried in US cafes are too watery, not flavorful, dont have enough milk, etc... This place does a fantastic job with its iced chai. It was surprisingly authentic to the middle eastern/south asian palette. Now I'm excited to go back and try meals here. I'm anticipating a middle eastern twist on other foods, as well. The interior is much nicer than I expected, with plenty of seating room and a cozy red couch. Whether I'd go so far as to call it a hidden gem remains to be seen. read more

Nom nom nom. I'm noshing on my most recent Pacific Street Cafe sandwich as I write this review: a build-it-yourself chicken salad with lettuce, tomato, and cucumber on french bread. The salad itself isn't quite my dream come true, but it is nice and peppery, which rocks my world. And the bread is really good too. I've been here twice for lunch now, and both times wanted to get a sandwich on a croissant. Both times, they've been out. Granted, I know cafes tend to run out of croissants around noon or before, but if it's going to be on the make-your-sandwich sheet, then come on. However, the other breads I've had have rocked my taste buds. One other gripe. I'm not sure their beverage cold case is kept below 41 degrees. I grabbed an Odwalla one time and didn't think it was cold enough...and this deterred me from grabbing one today. Grr....now I crave smoothie in a major way. All in all, this lunchtime cafeteria style place has grown on me, although I haven't tried the "hot lunches." I'll stick to the occasional sandwich and enjoy the decently speedy, friendly customer service. read more

Passing by this place every day on the commute, but never had a chance to try it. Finally I tried this place since I would move to the next city and no longer pass every day. I got a salad for lunch in the morning. Not much choice, so I got lemon chicken salad. It was not special: not bad but not so good. Hidden gem. Pizza is surprisingly good and you can buy it by the slice. I have had their excellent meatloaf plate which has satisfied my comfort food need in the past and today I tried their salmon tagine special which came with a salad and it was all really tasty and fresh. The Pacific Street Cafe has a fantastic tuna melt! It's my favorite thing there, it's great every time I order it. I've had the Blue Plate Special a few times and I've been disappointed so I stick with my favorite. I don't get here often, especially in the winter, because it's a little out of the way, but it's a sunny walk in the warmer months. I've been coming to this place about 1-3 times a month for the past 9 months, mainly due to convenience as I work down the street. I've never had any issues with them ever. Once you learn how things work and what they look for, it's easy to go in and out pretty quickly. Friday, October 27th, I popped in to get a sammich and fruit. Their sammichs are pretty good, I like creating my own. It takes about 5 minutes as they press it/toast it. Pretty quick seeing as they're usually packed around lunch time. Anyways, I was double charged on my card. The dude at the register apologized and said he was refunding the second charge. Buuuuutttttt, he charged me again. I wasn't paying much attention and didn't realize until I got home late Friday. Since I work in the area, I thought I could just wait until I go back to work to talk to them in person instead of over the phone. I come back Wednesday November 1st, show another guy about what happened. He quickly apologized for the TRIPLE charge and refunded both charges no questions asked. After that was taken care of, I got a white chocolate hazelnut mocha and a cinnamon bun, ready to pay but he turned my money down (I had cash this time). I told him it wasn't necessary because things happen but he told me that he was very sorry for what happened last week and as a small token of their appreciation, I was good to go. I tried paying again but to no avail. Fantastic customer service here. They make sure the customer is taken care of even at their expense. Their food is good too, tho I've only ever had their pizza and sammichs but a Co worker got one of their special plates and said it was really good. Great place to eat at. The people are friendly. They have a process of how things work and who does what to help move the line quickly and keep customers happy. No issues no complaints. Thanks for your hard work. read more

I'm assuming that this cafe does most of it's business catering meetings/conferences for MIT, Novartis and the other large companies based in the Sidney/Pacific area. Why? Because everytime I've been in they've treated their customers with a curt disrespect and hurried them along even though the place is usually pretty empty. The detective inside Tom E has deduced that the only reasoning for such an attitude would be if walk-in customers were paying second fiddle to the corporate clients. Dropping into a cafe shouldn't feel like a chore. Sorry Pacific St, but you really lost me today when you gave me a SACHET of cream cheese (I've never seen that before) and a plastic knife, so that I had to spread my bagel. I'm paying you guys... are you really too busy to spread a bagel? I'm furious with the service at Pacific Street Cafe. The overhead menu above the cash register says "Mocchachino for $2.70", so I order one. The woman behind the register rings it up, and charges me $3.41 for it. Not a big deal I thought, so I said to the woman "the mocchachino sign is $2.70, how come the tax is so high?" The woman says in an angry/annoyed tone "We don't make mocchachinos, you have an ice frappe." I said "I just ordered a mocchachino, and the guy said OK." And she repeated, louder and in an angrier tone: "We DON'T make mocchachinos now. We only make it in the summertime. That's an ice frappe" So I said "Ooookay, I wish someone had told me that before I ordered it." So I gave her the change. She takes it, and, to further convey her annoyance, loudly throws each coin one-by-one into the cash register while glaring at me. Excuse me, I'm not exactly sure what I did wrong. One thing is for sure, she was extremely rude to me and I will never go back. And why would you post things on your overhead menu if you don't make them??! If she had apologized for the mistake, I wouldn't have had a problem. But she made it seem like it was my fault. BTW, their food isn't so clean either. The salad made my stomach hurt. read more

I have to say their Coffee latte is not very good. I had it twice, and it is one of the worst latte I have ever bought from any cafe.

So I have to update this based on today even if it is an isolated experience. I went in today to get a breakfast sandwich. There was a newer lady working today which is not unusual. I did notice she had a very large bandage on her neck. No big deal right? As she was making a few sandwichs for people I noticed the bandage was coming loose. Ok things happen I get that. but then to push it back on using you gloved hands then continue making sandwichs without putting on new gloves. Are you kidding me? Eventually she have up and walked away to remove the bandage. She did take off one of her gloves while doing this but then put the same glove back on............Again are you kidding me? So I just took my sandwich and tossed it in the trash. I don't hold the lady working there responsible she most likely did not get trained to practice food hygine. Overall I am very disturbed by this event and if the management of pacific cafe will let this happen I can't imagine what happens in the back room. read more

You judge a restaurant by how long a waiting line is. Being in area where clients have multiple restaurant options, I find the quality of the food in this location to be great. Workers are great and very hard working. This place has a Moroccan touch to its menu. Very frequently you would find Moroccan items such as the beets salad (would highly recommend), Lentil and Moroccan (Harira) soups. I highly recommend this location. A++++. read more

This place just caters to the lunch crowd of all the people working in the surrounding companies. Way overpriced for not that great food, and from my own experience and those of co-workers, I've seen them make quite a few mistakes. I don't go here anymore. My company uses them to cater lunch meetings, and I wish they would try somewhere else. The sandwiches are ok. Worst delivery service my company has ever experienced. The delivery driver had trouble finding the building (despite us being regular clients for years). Then, when he finally got here, he refused to take the elevator up to our floor. He started arguing with the security guard instead! When he finally met up with our receptionist, instead of a brief apology as would be courteous, he said he never wanted to deliver here again. He actually ended up telling her to "F*** off!!" This type of scenario has played out with this delivery driver more than once. Needless to say, we will never order from Pacific Street Cafe again. (The food is also not great. I've gone here twice had both a breakfast sandwich and a panini. The breakfast sandwich was with scrambled eggs, bacon, and avacado on a croissant roll. That was very good, as it should be. However, the panini was unfortunately a waste of money. It was a pre made Steak & Cheese, ready to be pressed upon order. However they decided to put tomatoes in it, making the bread soggy. Working nearby, this is the one of the better breakfast places in near proximity, which is not saying much. Flour blows them out of the water, but is always packed and a bit farther from me. The owners are friendly and I only have good things to say about them, but unfortunately I cannot say the same for the rest of the staff. I work near by and always pass this place but never came in. Today I decided to swing by and avoid the chaos of Central Square and other coffee shops. I ordered an ice latte which wasn't bad. One girl took my order and relayed it to the staff member that was preparing orders. In order to provide great customer service, the girl making the drink double checked with me to make sure she would make my drink the way I ordered it. This shows me that the staff cares about the customer and they want to do a job well done. The employees were efficient, didn't rush (which can mess orders up), weren't slow, and were genuinely polite. Thank you to those employees. As for the space itself, it is large, spacious, and quiet. I like that there is a couch to relax on, this gives a comfortable atmosphere. There is plenty of seating too. I like the coloring and the overall feel of this place. read more

Stones throw away from my former office. This place is great for the lunch crowd near central, cambridgeport, MIT, etc. They've got a few "plates of the day" that you can choose from, in addition to sandwiches (either made to order or premade), baked goods, drinks, etc. I think they're a bit expensive for what you're getting... but the Blue Plate Specials were always good, and a TON of food... they were just never *great.* read more

Let me start by what I like about Pacific Cafe - they have the most amazing egg and cheese on croissant anywhere. The croissant is fresh, flaky, and perfectly toasted. The eggs are scrambled with the cheese cooked into them - yummo! If I were rating on egg and cheese it would be five star. I am a bit surprised on the service end of things from previous posts. Decent place to grab lunch in the area- good alternative to some of the other regular places. I like that this place is very clean and organized. They have a slip that you fill out when you order your sandwiches so the ingredients are sure to be correct! Food is decent- not outstanding but nothing to complain about. I eat here on an almost daily basis, and my office has their catering often. The Boston area is plagued with mediocre restaurants that combine cuisines (every pizza parlor that serves Indian food) but this is not one of them. This is a nice little spot that successfully combines Italian, Meditteranean and Moroccan/African/whatever (I am poor at geography). I normally get a panini but today I couldn't resist the Street Special which was a roast lamb shank on rice with a side salad. For ~$9. It was damn good and inspired me to write a review here. The prices seem a bit high, but I wonder if that's because there's not too many other places right on Sidney (that I've seen anyway). I'm a big fan of Pacific Street Cafe, but I must say I've only eaten there for breakfast (almost every day). Their pastries are made in house and they are amazing. The cinnamon roll that's made from the same pastry as a croissant rocks my world. It's delicate, fluffy, and the inside melts in your mouth. I'm also a big fan of the chocolate orange croissant - mmmmmm if I wasn't worried about my waistline I would eat this every day. On the less adventurous side, the bagels are good. I love the plain bagel as is, untoasted with a perfect crust. The big hit for the days that I really need a pick me up is the amazing chocolate cookie. Go in around 9am and ask if they have the cookies ready, if so grab one. It's cooked just enough that their is a crust followed by a moist center. The highlight is the chocolate chips. Still warm from the over they melt over your tongue. They are amazing. As for service, relax people. It's a small staff and if you take a moment and get to know them they will happily do whatever they can to make you happy as well. read more

The staff is nice and at lunchtime they are great at not letting the lines get out of control... Although it gets packed they serve you quite quick. I personally don't understand why there are negative reviews about this place. I get breakfast/lunch at least twice a week from this cafe and so far I have been here at least 100 times. I never have had an issue about ordering (they always got me what I ordered). Also, to me at least, this place offers much better service compared to other quick-sandwich shops like subways. daily specials and paninis are good (well, you got total 6 of them for each day so you can find one fits your taste any day). Desserts like tiramisu cakes and fruits (berries) are decent. Price is great, especially if you are a MIT student (not sure this kind of discount is available for other customers) since you don't pay tax and 10% discount on top of it. read more

A bit overpriced, I just don't see the value in such insipid sandwiches and salads. It's just not worth it. Also, the staff is extremely rude. By far the worst experience I've had in a diner. I went in the other day and ordered from the menu that's on the board, then the two ladies looked at me with amazement. Then when they snapped out of that mesmerizing spell I had apparently cast on them, one of them said that they changed the menu. So I go for the salad. I give the lady the change and in the most discourteous and demeaning tone she replied: "You know what, it's fine, just _take_ the salad." I guess she was expecting me to pay $10 for my $5-ish salad and tell her to keep that change? Or did I do anything wrong without realizing it? That was my second time there.
