There's a table outside if you want to eat right then and there. They give soup samples sometimes. It's pretty tasty. I called in three fish tacos about 30 minutes ahead, got there, and still waited another 15 minutes just to find out they entered my order wrong. This is like a permanent taco truck that is posted right behind Home Depot on San Marcos Blvd. This is a true taco type stand, where there are no seats and you eat standing up. Or if you have a truck the bed serves as an impromptu table. You order at the window and then get some seafood goodness fairly quickly, 5-7 minutes tops. You are offered seafood consomme (broth) after you order, which is a tasty appetizer before your food comes out. I have had the shrimp cocktails, ceviches and both fish and marlin tacos. All those dishes hold their weight, but it really is all about the fish taco for me. Simple in true Baja style with fried white fish, cabbage and their white sauce. Very tasty and my favorite in North County. Their salsa's are awesome. Dangerous, but delicious, the habanero is another favorite of mine. Super spicy. A friend of mine recommended their tacos so my husband and I decided to try them out. They are parked on the street behind Home Depot where there's absolutely zero parking. I dropped my husband off to order our food while I circled around and luckily found some parking on my second try. We ordered their fish tacos and my husband suggested we just eat them in the car while they were fresh (plus, I was super hungry!). They cost $2 each and are good size tacos! They just got a new truck so business must be good and business wouldn't be good if the food wasn't freakin awesome. Also the food is priced right, like $1.75 for a fish taco and $3.75 for the fish tostada. I also frequent another food truck down the street which is good too but they raised their prices and that makes Mariscos Oceanos a better value. If you can eat right there the fish tacos are nicely sized with a crispy batter and straight goodness on the inside. I've noticed from all the spots that getting your fish tacos Togo and wrapping them up will eliminate this crispy batter and make them a little soggy. Just a little foodie advice! Anyways the fish tostada was fresh and delicious. Try the marlin taco, with smoked marlin it's a pretty big taco and it's bangin!! The new truck is nice and clean especially for a food truck. Came by again this past Veteran's Day weekend. I don't know what happened, but the quality has taken a drastic downturn. Before, the free soup included sizeable pieces of fish and whole shrimp. Now, the fish was tiny, and the shrimp was now headless and small. I get that some people don't like shrimp heads, but I was nevertheless disappointed. But, it is free, so... The fish taco itself. Although still a relative bargain at $1.75, the breading was way, way too thick. Previously, the breading was thin and crispy, a perfect balance. Now, it felt like subpar fish from a fish and chips place was jammed into a taco. Same with the shrimp. The most disappointing was the octopus taco. Although the octopus was still tender, the taco was greatly lacking in flavor, and by the time I got to eating it, the sauce had turned the taco into a weird wet fajita. Not good. Less than two dollars for some of the most generously portioned fishes out there! They have this price everyday!Their chipotle sauce is so flavorful and they have onions stocked on the side at all times. They even provide you a nice little soup appetizer while you wait for your order. They are usually consistent, but recently some orders have been hit or miss, plus another order that took over 40 minutes, even when called in ahead of time. It seems pricey--six bucks for a taco? But two of them are almost too much for a hungry adult. I got the marlin, which is marinated and grilled to barbecuey goodness, not bland as swordfish often is. The food is decent and I would return if it wasn't for the cashier and her lousy attitude. I got out to pick up an order we placed over the phone. Mind you there is a specific sign that says "pick ups" on one side. I go there and was greeted by a snarky cashier who's attitude is anything but friendly telling him to go to the back of the line with everybody else. I tell her I'm only picking up an order, she instead goes back to helping everyone else and ignores me and let's out a huge sigh ! Her attitude is horrible. She then decides to help me acting like she's annoyed I'm even there. I tell her I have an order to pick up and she says she has one order without a name so she doesn't know who's it is. How is that our fault ? Before she decides to give us (the ONLY order they had called in ) she's going to double check with someone in the back if they can give it to us !? Is she serious ? Who hired her ? If this place wants to remain open I would get rid of her ASAP. I'm not going back again , and I have already told family and friends about the lack of customer service here to avoid them from coming back. Why waste money someone where it's not appreciated.
