What a gem! I stumbled across this restaurant while visiting San Marcos. Its located in a mini food court across from the Edwards theater. I placed my order with the nicest young lady behind the order counter. Food pick up is in the back and the guy back there takes your receipt and confirms your order. Ah man, where do I begin? Off the bat, this place lacked customer service skills. I was the one approaching and greeting the girl upfront. Are we for real? Only for her not to greet me or ask us what we wanted, just a blank stare. If it weren't for me asking what aguas frescas they had, I believe the girl would've not said a word. As I order two tacos and a agua fresca, I saw that not only was my order wrong but it was a ridiculous price for two tiny tacos. I go around and let the guy (only cook) know that my order was messed up and to serve me what I asked for. He was friendly and really helpful, I was confused because this place is set up weird. The layout kind of doesn't make sense if the place gets full. Anywho, the agua fresca to top it off was also pretty bland and tasteless. Don't get why this place has any rave. Definitely don't recommend and just as a heads up don't expect great customer service either. read more

I can literally eat tacos eight days a week... Now that Frida's has amazing deals basically every day, it makes sense to dine here and get my grub on. Taco Tuesdays and Thursdays are awesome deals but on Mondays and Wednesdays they now offer a three plate meal with rice, beans and a fresca! Holy smokes. I appreciate and enjoy all the offerings they have including the salsa bar which has limes, radish and cucumber. They never skimp on anything. Jalapenos and grilled onions! Service is always served quickly and with a smile. The dining area is super clean and never too crowded. I never hesitate to dine in when I have the time. Glad a TJ style taco opened up, I really wish it was TJ tacos, but this will do. It's located in a food hall next to the theatre. There are other food business in the food hall- cold stones, and a Chinese place. I went on a Thursday before the lunch rush. Their ordering system is ass backwards. You order and pay at the front, then you take your receipt and wait at the window and they make your order. If there's a long line, you're fked because it can be a 30-45 minute wait. Their system doesn't communicate to the cooks. So if you don't know the process and you're sitting and waiting at the table for your number to be called, you're going to be upset! The cashier mentions it but sometimes they don't. I got 4 tacos- 2 carne asada, al pastor and a cabeza, came with onions and a pepper. The cabeza taco had flavor, and comparable to TJ. The Al pastor I prefer over TJ, and the carne asada needed more flavor and char, so I prefer TJ over Fridas. But being close to my house and they having taco Tuesday's for $1.99, it's good enough. My tacos were stuffed, and I got full from 4 and overly bloated. My friend came a week later and she did not have a good experience and they did not stuff her tacos. So I guess it depends on the cook. Her tacos, the meat looks old. So guessing it's a hit or miss. But being just 5 minutes away and no traffic, it's good for street tacos. read more

The meat was absolutely delicious!! I had the carnitas which was so good and juicy. The horchata was really good as well none of that artificial crap. Authentic and full of flavor tucked away in the plaza where the movie theater is. We also had a very nice conversation with the cashier. She said the owner's dad owns Coyote Taquería in Menifee which I can't wait to try as well. She recommend to my boyfriend the tacos de cabeza and he said they were so delicious. read more

Frida's Taqueria is located at a small food court in the same plaza as Regal Edward's Cinema in San Marcos. I was craving a torta and horchata and found this place. It was late at night so the staff were cleaning the dining area. The food came out quick. The meat was freshly grilled and I was very satisfied w my torta. Delicious!! I really like the cheese they put in it. Salsas were not spicy enough (there was some heat but not as hot as I'd like it to be). The horchata was good, it was obvious that it was made fresh in-house (NOT the syrup stuff). Next time I'll have to try their TJ-style street tacos. Gosh. I really want to like this place... but I just can't. The tacos are a rough 4/10. The meat isn't good, and what makes me mad every time is that they deceive you with the guac. They smear this THIN coating of guac so in the pictures you see everywhere it seems like they give you a good amount. It's just for the first bite and then you have nothing. I've heard great things about Frida's in general, mostly about the Escondido location, but pleasantly surprised to see a 2nd location in San Marcos. Conveniently located right next to the Regal theaters in San Marcos, food options for date night seem limited as there's only about 4 food spots directly in the building. Frida's customer service was great, efficient, and fast! I ordered and received my food in maybe 10 min tops because there was a person ahead of me. The gentleman who helped prep my food was extremely polite, personable and had a great attitude! The food was amazing. The carne asada and Birria were cooked to perfection! Super tender, full of flavor, and well balanced with all of the toppings! My only regret was not ordering more! I will def be back, but now I need to go check out the Escondido location! read more

This place is the worst out of Esco, vista, San Marcos area. I walk in and see no one up front, see the cook but no one else. I give it a minute thinking maybe she has to run to the back real quick but no. I waited a few minutes more and then waved to the cook like hello is there anyone here so I can order. So I stood there and watched them make the plate look oh so pretty, film it and all. once they were done they decided to help the 2 other people that had been waiting for their food and then helped me. I have no clue how long they had been waiting but they were there before I even ordered my food. Again how are videos more important than serving your customers? Dropped by here for a quick bite after seeing their taco Tuesday special of $1.99 per taco. Price really can't be beat especially nowadays. Size is street taco size as expected but the double corn tortillas added to the heartiness. Disappointingly, their tortillas tasted a bit stale and not as soft. Frida's Taqueria is alright. Living up the street, I pass by here often and have wanted to try it out ever since seeing it pop up earlier this year. Getting a meal out to myself this last week gave me a chance to swing by and finally check them out. With Tacos Alex and a couple of great taco trucks nearby, Frida's does have some pretty stiff competition. I had four of their Street Tacos, giving me a good feel for their offerings. So, starting with the good. Their guacamole is fantastic, fresh and clean, it is brightly vibrant and flavorful. The corn tortillas are nice and thick, retaining shape without being overly filling. In the kitchen, the guy throwing all the food together was attentive, nice, and framed some beautifully plated tacos. And the salsas weren't too bad. Moving on, as far as their protein selections I had sampled, the Carne Asada was the best. Thin, well grilled to give it a nice char, and quite tasty, it was chopped fine and made a good, if somewhat dry, taco. While still the best on my plate, I would have preferred this to have been a bit juicer. The Al Pastor was wonderfully fragrant, but the flavors were a bit overwhelmed by all of the other toppings in the taco. The Cabeza was cooked stewed, almost like birria. So, where the meat should have been cooked down until it was salty, fatty, and deliciously gummy, it was instead a very sloppy and wet mess. The Chicharrón shared that same problem. Instead of being cooked down until most of the moisture was gone, leaving a delicious and gummy chew, the taco was filled with, what was basically, a mildly flavored slab of boiled fat. This needs to be cooked much longer and salted using crumbled and crunchy bits of fried chicharrón sprinkled on top. Plus, no tripas. Anyway, Frida's Taqueria is not a place I'd go out of my way to come back to in the future. But, it's easily a place to agree to eating at after seeing a movie at Edward's next door. I'm sure I'll swing by here again, hopefully to give the cabeza another try. read more

My parents went to order tacos at the San Marcos location at my recommendation and was told that it's only Tuesday and they don't do Thursdays at that one. This place is ridiculous, cost over $40 for 2 small meals, the people who took our order in the front never thought to mention that after you pay, your order NEVER gets sent to the kitchen until you bring a piece of paper back to ONE guy trying to run the whole kitchen to make your order. If you don't do that they never receive your order so we waited 20 min before we walked to the pickup window to check out what happened to our order then another 20 waiting for it to be made. The guy in the back is way overworked alone and the girls at the front cant walk the 10 feet to let the cook know the orders, or at the very least let the customers know it's up to them to submit them. Meanwhile, the booths are being pulled out from the wall to clean over an hour before cleaning. Update: finally got our food. Horrible. I grew up in San Marcos and on Mexican food and I've had better nachos at a gas station. The quesadilla was covered in oil and stuck to the plate. All 5 different meat tacos I had were pretty good. I wouldnt give it a wow factor but pretty much what I expected and none disappointed. $3.50 per taco isnt unreasonable but also not the cheapest for TJ street style tacos. Do not order a side of sour cream which came to $3.99! The taco makers dont even know what that means and I was told to just ask for a side of it from the kitchen next time when I questioned the cashier (no itemized receipt with prices unless you ask FYI). Know that you must give the receipt to the kitchen to have them start making your order. I had thought you'd give the receipt to accept the food and that they'd already be making it. nope. Not to split hairs but the kitchen doesnt do a great job at using the information on the receipt you give them. (1) I had to ask for the sour cream I paid $4 for and when I did, I got a single takeout plastic tub, eh 1.5 oz maybe? I love the one in oside and I was a little nervous about this location being fresh. I see movies at random times next door so when I go in and the food court is dead yet this place has life! Agua frescas we're freshly made and even more important the carne in my taco! I was thinking it might have been sitting out but nope it was so tender and flavorful and the filling amount is giving! All hail Frida! Frida's face is part of the logo and adorns the tables, cups, etc. Very cute. Menu is up really high on wall and could be difficult for some to read but they also had small menus available at cash register, so, problem solved. Vegetarians are always hopeful but never assume a meatless item is going to be available. FIRST THING ON MENU IS SOYRIZO POTATO TACOS and they were outstanding!!!!! Very disappointed, I really wanted to like this place. We came on a Sunday night around 6:30 pm. There were about 4 people waiting ahead of us. The boy that took my order was polite. The problem was the actual food, the al pastor meat was super dry and the tortillas were cold, for the amount that you have to pay per taco is not worth it in my opinion. We came here on a Tuesday since they have a Taco Tuesday special for $2 tacos! We waited in line for about ten minutes to place our order. We got four carne asada and four adobada tacos with a mango agua Fresca. They have delicious agua frescas and the workers are friendly. After you order, you wait in another line to get your food. This line is longer than the placing order line. We waited 40 minutes to get our tacos at the window. It was busy, packed with people, and seemed like there could be a better way to efficiently serve customers. Everything is made to order which slows down the efficiency. This is where Rubio's used to be so the space is relatively small for how popular Frida's is. They have a salsa bar and they have plenty of seating in the food court area. The tacos were alright. I feel like they were missing seasoning on the meat. The salsas had most of the flavor, but weren't amazing. I like Frida's, but I feel like the flavor of the meat was lacking. I am not sure I would come back here if I was craving tacos. They have plenty of other options and the agua frescas are fantastic. read more

I was a bit disappointed... I waited months for this place to open I finally had it on a Wednesday afternoon. There were five people ahead of me and I waited around 30 minutes to get four tacos. The gentleman was extremely nice but there was no sense of urgency in the kitchen. The meat had been previously cooked therefore cold. I'm used to the one in Escondido where the meat is fresh off the trompo.
