For most of that time, service was solid -- they generally showed up on time, were helpful, and I paid every bill promptly. We had a good relationship for a long time. Over the last year or two, though, things slipped noticeably. They started showing up haphazardly, often not on the days they promised, and it would take a week to a few weeks to get any email confirmation or follow-up. Communication became very spotty. That came to a head when I was selling my boat and needed a tachometer issue fixed -- the engine was over-revving. I contacted Chris directly, explained it was time-sensitive because the boat was being surveyed for sale, and was told I'd be added to the list and taken care of quickly. Instead, I waited five weeks with no update, emailed twice with no response, and finally had to call the office myself to ask what the delay was. That's when Austin told me Chris and Rob were both out on vacation at the same time, leaving him as the only guy handling everything -- with zero communication to me beforehand that there'd be any delay. I was told a tech would come out that Monday. Austin confirmed he'd be there. He never showed. When I followed up Thursday, he said he'd just gotten busy and never made it out -- his response was basically, "good luck, I hope it turns out okay for you." The pre-sale survey happened before the tachometer was ever fixed. As a direct result, I had to lower the overall price of the boat and create a $2,000 seller's allowance during negotiations. I lost several thousand dollars because they didn't show up and fix the problem like they said they would. Despite a decade of loyalty and on-time payments, the lack of communication and missed commitments during a time-sensitive repair left me feeling like I was no priority whatsoever, and that our long-standing relationship didn't matter at all. I felt betrayed, and this growing pattern of unprofessionalism and lack of caring has reached a point where I would not recommend them, nor would I ever use their services again if I get another boat. You're paying a premium and getting low-budget service.

Fortunately, the system issue did not limit the use of the boat. The system simply was not working to expectations. BOE stood by their instal, attempting to figure out what caused the intermit error. BOE reviewed their instal, ran multiple scenarios to replicate the error, and engaged the manufacturer. Many companies would have argued the system was working and the interment error was caused by something outside their scope, and did not limit the use of the electronics. BOE did not take that approach. They replaced a key component, which was not cheap, at their expense to ensure the system met expectations. I really appreciate doing business with a company that wants to make things work right!

The concerns: After providing me with quotes for my project, I confirmed the job, and then they increased their labor rates by $30 per hour, which added hundreds of $'s of labor to the final invoice. I was surprised that they did not honor the quotes they originally sent me. (Also be aware, all equipment is charged at MSRP.) It took almost two months to schedule and complete the work, including delays in starting the work. When I inquired about the schedule, the owner of the company, Emily, was put on the phone and was extremely rude to me. With that said, Alex did his best to provide good customer service but clearly had his hands tied. The miss: I asked for a quote to fix my trolling motor mount. Instead of fixing the mount, they added a quick release to the broken mount. When I pointed out the miss, they said that they don't fix trolling motors. At least I will have a quick release when I do finally get it fixed!

Owner Marvin Imhoff responded quickly to my text as I was seeking a replacement for the old Bimini top on our trawler. I brought him the canvas for inspection and he provided me with a repair option to add an extra year or two to its life, along with detailed cleaning instructions for the material. He also provided an estimate for replacing the Bimini completely with all new material, high-quality heavy duty YKK zippers, and weather resistant Gore-Tex thread. Based on his excellent advice, I will be able to squeeze one more season out of the canvas for this summer and then have him measure and replace new this fall. I spoke to a man named Ashby who took a lot of time answering my questions and giving me professional insight and even talked about some of the added value they provided over the competition (like Gore Tex thread). I decided to roll the dice and give them a shot and boy am I glad I did. They came out to the house and were extremely thorough and professional taking measurements and laying out a template. A week later a second trip out to the house for a fitting and final snap button placement. The results were outstanding. The fit and finish and attention to detail were second to none. In the end I got a quote for my walk-in shower, but it was not itemized which limits its usefulness. I already had a couple of quotations to compare theirs to, so the bottom line was South Shore was twice as expensive as their closest competitor, over 11k.. The agent neglected to send me a quotation for my kitchen floor. I have no doubt their labor and materials are high-quality, but not everyone needs the Rolls-Royce of showers.
