We're happy with renting from them. They pick you up from the ferry terminal, so that was a huge plus especially since it was raining when we arrived. As of this post, once you land and exit the terminal, walk left. Their vans pop up about once every twenty minutes to take a bunch of people to their office. We rented just for a day, called and talked to Mathew on the phone the day before, explained our situation, he was friendly and told us to let them know we had talked to him when we got to the place of business. First time in Vieques after visiting the mainland for 18 years. Make your reservation over the phone the website I had trouble with but over the phone. They were so kind and explained everything and helped me make a reservation. I reserved a jeep about 2 1/2 months in advance. They sent me an email with my confirmation and let me know that they would pick us up from the ferry as long as I told them what time we were arriving they were there right when we got there and immediately took us to get our jeep. They were very nice. They also have some of the nicest looking jeeps. We had a great time and drove it all over the place saw so many beaches and visited the Navy bunkers would definitely recommend. read more

They were friendly and responsive and picked us up from & dropped us off at the ferry (and even helped us when we were running late for our ferry out). The jeep we rented was pretty beat up but did the job. The only real complaint we had was the key fob didn't work & about 50% of the time we unlocked the door it triggered the panic alarm until you started the car. read more

$1000 Parking Ticket scam? Blue Curbs = handicap The sign states (if u can read it) $500 but police will give you a $1000 ticket. Police then run the ticket to Maritzas and make you pay it upon checkout... even if you are disputing it. I disputed the $1000 overcharge with my CC once back in the states. Won my case today via zoom and losing half a day of Vk. I think there is some type of kickback going on. Also reserved a 2023 Wrangler and received an old, beat up, smelly one that was basically falling apart. Do not recommend this shady place. read more

We had a great experience with a last minute rental The process was quick for both check-in and check out. They were really accommodating and had several vehicles to choose from. We arrived really early (before 8am,) one weekday in offseason so public transport and taxis weren't readily available. We worried about having to take a taxi from the ferry to the car rental, but Maritza's picked us up and dropped us off (we called and gave them very little notice of our arrival and they still came immediately). What you need to know: It's a small island without tons of rental options. You might need to adjust your expectations, you are on a semi rural island. Roads are rough here and cars get beat up. You will not get a brand new looking car and you should document damage ( they tell you take as many photos as you like ) prior to heading out with your rental. You can return at Maritza as late as 5:30pm most days. This worked for us as we had a late ferry. Not sure the other places open that late for return. Checking car out is a bit of a process. You have to wait for the shuttle to pick you up ( go ahead and call them when your ferry arrives). The shuttle comes with a big Maritza logo on the side of the van. There's normally several other parties waiting, so just anticipate you'll have to get to the office and might take 30min to 1hr to process everyone. Customer service rep I worked with was friendly. I ended up forgetting my Apple Watch in the car. I contacted Maritza, they found it and promptly mailed it back to me. They only charged me $5.55 shipping cost. Maritza was a great choice. read more

A pleasant experience and a well-run operation. Book well in advance, and call for a pickup from the airport/ferry. They send a shuttle for the quick check-in. Add the $12/day loss damage waiver at check-in, if just to speed up check-in/check-out. Expect some exterior damage to the cars, given the state of roads on the island, but they're in drivable shape. The ONLY plus was the shuttle to & from the ferry. I rented a vehicle for 4 hours. I drove a total of 17miles. The car would not start at one of our destinations. We waited an hour for service. We lost the rest of our day and needed to "hustle" back to catch the ferry, that we were already late for. I inquired of a discount. I was told that I already got a discount of 10%. Looking at the final invoice, it was the same amount as what I agreed to before I drove it off the lot. So no discount there. I was given a credit for gas...wow maybe $5. We were not pleased and had to leave to catch the ferry. We were told we'd get a call back. Of course no one called unless we did. I called and listened to the rep's justify their position and when I tried to explain our position, they continued to talk over me. From the booking process via email and phone, to returning the vehicle at the end of my trip, my experience with Maritza's was flawless. I booked in August for a trip in November. They quoted me a price for a Kia Soul that seats 5. At the time it was the roomiest vehicle they had that would accommodate my group of 6. When we arrived at SIG airport, I called them and they promptly sent a van to pick us up. Jose was our driver and he also processed the booking. We were surprised to see a Kia vehicle, but it was bigger than the Soul and it fit all six of us, plus luggage. We drove the hell out of that thing! We covered 6 beaches plus MANY trips to the supermarket, as well as bakery runs all week. The vehicle was roomy enough for all of us, plus coolers packed with beer and sandwiches for the beaches, plus beach towels and chairs. Spacious and comfortable. Upon returning, Jose checked us out and refunded the deposit since we returned it in good condition with a full tank of gas. He was even able to split the rental cost on three credit cards, which we really appreciated. He was very nice and accommodating throughout the entire process. A driver then drove us back to SIG and we said adios! to Vieques. What a beautiful island with friendly people. I definitely plan to return and will use Maritza's again every time I go! This rental company was absolutely DISHONEST when it came to their insurance policy which they reviewed with me prior to making the $500 deposit. I had purchased their insurance policy prior to taking on their rental, being told that this would cover me for any damages to the vehicle such as a paint scratch that they acknowledged as being minor and very likely to be covered by the insurance that I had purchased with the full deposit refunded back to me, as long as the costs were below $500. Not only did I discover that they went back on their word, I was infuriatingly handed off to other employees on the phone who had difficulty with communicating in English or just being dismissive of any questions that I had. When I finally heard back about the paint costs, I was being told that the amount refunded would only amount to $150, as this was a $350 cost to them. When I attempted to refute this with them, Ms. Corcino at their front desk asked that I speak with their customer service rep on this issue prior to releasing the refund. I never was able to reach them again or receive any refund whatsoever. I have never encountered this kind of unprofessional, deceitful behavior before with a rental company such as this with their review rating. read more

Both employees who picked up/dropped off were chatty, kind, and enjoyed working there. The car had several dings and dents on the outside--all which the rental company annotated thoroughly before I left the lot, and had no issues when I returned--no hidden fees or attempts to claim damages that were already there. We where in Vieques for one day and rented a car from Maritza's. The jeep we rented was in good c lean and in good condition. The only problem is the losing wait at the ferry terminal. Once the shuttle came to pick us up they were only taking the drivers no other members in your party. That meant that I had to return to town to pick up my family. This took a good hour and a half. Going back I had to cut my trip short by one hour in order to allow for transport back to the ferry. So basically if you are on the island only for one day maybe choose a different company in town so you don't waste 2 hours of your day. read more

They took the time to explain the pricing, contract specifics and car use instructions to ensure that we were fully on board with everything and understood all of the details. They were professional, patient and courteous when I asked questions and they offered some great recommendations for things to do on the island. The Jeep we rented was perfect for running around on the island and it ran perfectly- the AC was powerful and so appreciated. Even though it had some minor scratches and dents on the exterior, we went over them together prior to signing the contract and we were not held responsible for them obviously. The dings and dents are present on all island rentals: parts/repair are hard to come by and the roads are often rough/with heavy vegetation. Maritza's was recommended to us by local hotel staff. We were nervous choosing a rental car company since your entire trip hinges on transportation. With this in mind we booked our Jeep two months in advance, and called to confirm our reservation a few weeks before our departure. Maira at the front desk was super helpful and friendly with handling my original reservation and my follow up. One tip - make sure to write down your confirmation number since they don't send an email. When we arrived at the island Maritza's sent a shuttle to our hotel that took us to their shop. The shop was busy but after 45 minutes we were able to pickup our Jeep and head to the beach. Sunday drop off was also a breeze. We arrived at the shop an hour and a half before our flight, waited about 30 minutes to drop off the keys and walk through vehicle inspection. Next the Maritza shuttle dropped us at the airport and we were on our way. We highly recommend Maritza's and will rent from them again. Their fleet contains new vehicles, their staff is courteous and helpful, and their rates @ $70/day are reasonable. read more

The shuttle driver who picked us up was surly and looked like she hated her job. The reason I'm giving one star and warning other renters, though, is that they told us the Bronco was a lemon and that all of the sensors had failed, AFTER we did the inspection and signed the paperwork. This includes the tire sensor, which is a very big deal when driving on potentially rutted and potholed roads in Vieques. They also told us after signing that the car will make a bad noise that goes away after it warms up. I told them I felt very nervous that it was a lemon and would have appreciated being warned at the time I reserved the car. The rep just kept saying the issues don't matter. Really, failed sensors do not matter? The safety of your customers does not matter? They also charged us full price for this supposed lemon. We found during our trip that the seat belts in the back seat did not even release correctly. I emailed them to tell them it was not okay with me that they pulled the stunt they did and that they need to take up the issue with Ford instead of transferring it to unsuspecting customers, but they never responded or apologized. I find it reckless to rent out a car you are calling a lemon that has failed sensors and a weird noise on startup. read more

Used this company on recommendation from a friend. Totally convenient and awesome experience. We rented a 2-door Wrangler. Definitely worth the little extra money to pick up/drop off the car at the airport. They did a thorough inspection of our vehicle before we left with it and noted every damaged part of the vehicle (it happens on this island, the roads are rough on these cars!) so we weren't worried about being held responsible for it. The AC in the car blew cold, everything worked in the car. We definitely rode this jeep all over the island, down all the narrow bumpy roads and felt confident and safe the whole time. I had rented a Jeep from Avis but when booking a house on AirBnb the owner said Avis was fine but if i wanted to go local to try Martiza's. I quickly price compared and Martiza was lower & I'm a fan of a locally owned business anyway. I got a 2 door jeep wranger which was very new & clean. If your in Vieques than this is the spot to get a rental from. I must warn you unlike on the main land where a car rental is in almost perfect shape, with low miles. You will find the complete opposite on the island. The cars are safe. Super high milage. Scratched up like you would not believe. But the run well and the AC worked perfectly. PS. Make sure you leave your windows down if you leave it on a beach. The robbers, will simply break the glass anyway. read more

Went searching for car rental places on Vieques. I read all the horror stories about dirty cars, scratched cars and lost keys and was concerned about that. The rental place at the W didn't have any more jeeps available but Maritza's did. I booked on line and was able to get a jeep for the days we were there. They didn't send a confirmation email from the on line booking so I called them the next day. So I have to say I'm VERY happy with Maritza's and can recommend them to anyone that may be on the fence about renting from them. If you are at the W, the W staff will bring you to Maritza's. It's like a 5 minute drive away. When you are ready to return the car you can drive it to Maritza's turn in the car and they will take you to the airport which is like 7 minutes away from them. So a couple of things about all the horror stories about rental jeeps on Vieques - I asked them about this when we returned the car. If you used the jeep in a intelligent adult kinda way when going out to the beaches you won't have any problems They told me about people that apparently have never driven on a dirt road or in a jeep thinking they are monster truck drivers and intentionally bash through every puddle they can find getting muddy water inside the jeep. Or try to shove them up paths that they shouldn't be on and scratch the sh*t out of them and bend a fender or bumper. They also warn you about not trying to live some off road magazine jeep ad fantasy about having a jeep parked on the beach and hanging out. They've had people that get them stuck on the beach and have to be towed out or have the tide come in and flood the damn thing. And yes you need a real credit card to rent. That goes for any rental car place. Also - they say up front if you lose that damn key it will cost you 400 bucks. Right up front - so don't go swimming with it in your back pocket. All 5 stars. We will be using them again when we go back next year. read more
