TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I came to this resort for a wedding. The resort at first glance is beautiful but the negative experience I had far surpassed the views the resort provided. I stayed in a room with one other person. Our room had THE WORST smell I've ever experienced to be honest. I wish I was exaggerating. There was a major plumbing issue that no amount of perfume or room spray could address. It became so bad, that my friend and I could not sleep in the room. When asked to be switched we were told no rooms were available. We ended up sleeping on the balcony of the room for the night just to get relief. THE BALCONY. That's how bad it was. The next day, we could not get into another room until the evening. By then the wedding had already taken place, I had net 2 hours of sleep after already having very little sleep from a long trip into PVR. There's nothing like having no rest on what you hoped to be a vacation. I was an absolute zombie for my dear friend's wedding. I went searching for public showers to get ready because I couldn't shower in my own room, and when asked how they would address it, they sent housekeeping to come spray bleach everywhere in site. Other guests told us of smell issues in their room. None as severe as ours but persistent nonetheless. Housekeeping came and sprayed bleach and left them as well. I truthfully deserve some partial refund but in an effort to be gracious I just asked them if they could compensate us with a massage... they refused that and offered access to their jacuzzi instead. The jacuzzi runs from 10am to 6pm -- during the hottest hours of the day. So the moment it became useful to actually go, they were closing down. I'll be honest, jacuzzi access doesn't feel like a gesture that is invested in rectifying the situation, but rather pacifying the situation. I slept on a balcony! I've never had such a terrible experience anywhere. My friend and I tried to make the best of a really terrible situation, spent valuable time we could have spent resting talking with staff and moving between rooms when not engaged in wedding activities, dealing with a room that smelled terrible and then smelled like overwhelming bleach on TOP of the odor, and then were offered access to their jacuzzi instead. To make matters worse when changing rooms, they told us that they could either offer us a room that smelled slightly better on the same floor or their suite (which was in great condition). Of course we wanted the suite but then they said we had to pay.... WE HAVE TO PAY TO FIX A PROBLEM YOU CAUSED?! But it gets better. We obviously decide to not pay more money and take the less appealing room. The next day we find out that another pair of folks had an issue with their room. Far less dramatic - but they were given the suite entirely for free! Mind you, my friend and I are black women and the couple is white. While I would love to say that race is not an issue, we were consistently ignored by wait staff, dismissed when raising issues, and when I brought this discrepancy forward the wait staff rolled their eyes and redirected me to management. My other friends (who were also Black) had a separate issue where they were assigned the wrong room and ended up settling into a room where other guests were also assigned. Imagine being two black guys unpacking your things and then two white women walk in saying you're in their room?! It could have gone soooo wrong. There's been disorganization, very little done to rectify the issues caused, and a lot of time wasted on trying to get settled instead of relaxing and enjoying the trip. Punta de Mita is such a lovely area outside of the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta. Marival Armony is relatively new and had opened during Covid. And only recently in March did they become an all inclusive adult only resort. I will note trying to do things online before our trip was not convenient. It took several tries to try to book spa services and reach concierge. However on site, they are accommodating from scheduling Covid testing before departures, setting up dinner reservations, and arranging airport taxis. A bit of trek from airport, so plan about 30-45 minutes commute. Upon check in, you will get approached about potentially buying a timeshare during the overview of the resort but they are kind when you do decline. The resort is situated amidst new construction but well maintained, immaculate, and well staffed. Definitely recommend the Sierra Suites which are closer to the spa (refer to separate review) and more secluded. Spacious with panoramic views of the resort. You also have access to two pools and a fire pit area away from the main infinity pool. With over 4-5 restaurants on site, it can be a bit overwhelming since they are on varying time, schedules and dates of availability. Kudos to the chef because everything is yummy and quite delish. However, not too many options for vegans. For buffet lovers, stick to La Brise which has amazing seafood stew. For sunbathers, Drops has the best seafood tostada. Essence has the best salmon and rack of lamb entree. My favorite restaurant is Insu, the international tapas venue. You'll have the most variety and taste of flavors here. The dessert tray was perfect size and sample of three different carb goodness. Overall it felt like a soft opening of the resort. There is so much potential. Don't overthink it. Keep it simple. Definitely recommend if you are looking to recharge and restore. Self care is a necessity. Stay here. Stay on vacation mode. Sea la vie. read more

This is a stunningly beautiful property on the Pacific. Lovely pools, beautifully maintained grounds. Our room was quite dated but the view was spectacular. If you are a food snob like me though, bring your own. I bought into the all inclusive meals and found the food to be widely mediocre. (Except the hash browns, whoever is making those needs a raise.) Also, be warned that anything you buy in the little shop is insanely overpriced. And be aware you will need mucho pesos for tipping. And tip well, because working in that heat would be excruciating. And, as a last word, unlimited alcohol in the form of an open bar is a terrible idea. I hope the incapacitated man I found on the walkway outside my room is okay! I will not ever stay in another all inclusive resort. It's a land cruise. read more

The resort is kind of run down. Not the 5 star I thought it was going to be! We've been here 3 days and have not had a great meal to brag about! Just ok! My wife and I visited Marival Armory in July of 2021 and overall had an incredible time. It was our first time in Puerta Vallarta and we would definitely love to come back. I want to get the bad stuff out of the way first. When you first arrive, you are greeted by folks who seem like concierge but are actually trying to sell you a time share. We declined but were pressured to the point where we put down the $20 deposit just so we could go relax. When we tried to get the money back the next morning, it was like pulling teeth. Eventually, one of the employees told us to just go through the pitch and lie so that they could get their commission. Because we were being pressured so heavily, we went to the free breakfast and sat through the pitch and bailed. We had saved up for years to go on this trip and just wanted to enjoy it. This definitely put a sour taste in our mouth from the get go. Other than the awful time share experience, we had an incredible time. The resort grounds were beautiful and well kept. The spa services we enjoyed were divine. And all of the employees (except those involved in the time share situation) were very kind to us. We would love to go back, but probably won't as it seems like the time share system is still in place. read more

Hotel and pools are beautiful. The layout of the hotel and views are amazing. Customer service is a joke! We checked in and everything went smoothly but right after that 2 ladies offered to book breakfast for the following day and I thought they were from concierge but little did I know they were trying to sell me a time share (which I asked twice and they denied) so they call it membership instead cause they know people will run. I spent 3 days trying to get my deposit and every single day they gave me different story. I requested to speak to the manager and they suddenly gave me my 20.00 deposit back. I should have known better but didn't realize it was a membership offer. They have plenty of employees just walking around and not really doing much for the customers. Definitely not a 5 star hotel. I have stayed at a 3 star hotel and have received better service than this place. They require reservations at dinner time and their portions and very small. They have very few customers and your meal takes 60-80 minutes to arrive. For the money I paid I expect excellent customer service. I will never return to this hotel and will discourage you to stay here. I travel to Mexico once a year and have never received this service. I spoke to 2 other families and they had the same experience as us. We decided to take family pictures and the photographer was awesome and I will be booking with him directly in the future. We are there with ILT golf vacations end of Feb 2023. This place is beautiful. I read so many negative reviews and started feeling maybe we should not have spent so much for this. The beds are comfortable, but only 2 pillows per bed. Very clean, and excellent attentive maid service. We reserved a garden view, but it was partial ocean view. It was building 1, second floor. Nice and quiet, as I am a light sleeper. Its a bit of a walk to beach and several short sets of stairs. To avoid most steps stay on right walking path, it's just a slope. Food was excellent and so fresh. Produce and berries, tropical fruit was amazing. Try the French toast. Fresh squeezed assortment of juices. Staff super nice and attentive. I do not know why I saw so many negative reviews that caused me concern. It was outstanding. Beach chairs and umbrellas available in morning and later afternoon. Give the beach attendant a dollar or 2 and he will set up chairs and umbrella. They're very accommodating. You get free use of boogie boards, kyacks and paddle boards. You can rent hobie cats and jet skis. Sun is intense, beware. Many fried people there. read more

Very good place to vacation ! All inclusive, adult only, Very clean. Two heated pools, the infinity pool has a swim up bar that overlooks the bay. The other bar The Blend has live music pizza and other bar food. The servers are very friendly and efficient especially Elizabeth (The butterfly). Octavio is like the Jack of all trades, very helpful. There are four restaurants two are more formal with reservations required. The food is very good with several choices per course. The server's are knowledgeable and on the ball. The buffet has a nice variety that changes daily. Breakfast has cooked to order eggs, pancakes, French toast and waffles. Lunch has made to order burgers and hotdogs. The dining area overlooks the bay so that you have a chance to see whales while you eat or enjoy a drink. The guest rooms are spotless, very comfortable with a mini bar, coffee and bottled water. We had a garden view with a patio that opened to the pool. The spa and workout areas are excellent and the attendants are very good. I requested Karen for my massages. She has a magic touch. The downsides are the resort is starting to show its age but it's still well maintained. The steps to the beach can be a bit to much for seniors. I would comeback tomorrow if I could. Awful experience from the minute I walked onto this property. Rude and untrained staff and management . I was sold a 2 bedroom suite they claimed at check in didn't exist. They have actual photos online of the suite. They oversold and were lying to me. They would not even compensate a bottle of wine or spa credit.... flat out didn't care. Days later the room suddenly appeared when guests checked out. They basically gave my room away before I arrived. The rudest staff I have ever dealt with and I TRAVEL A LOT! Food and drinks a 3 star. Hmm this was a hard review to write because there's a lot that goes into an all inclusive resort. I'll start with the good stuff. Beautiful resort the design and architecture are amazing you can tell that the layout of restaurants and the designs used on walls,lampshades, colors everything is really great. However there were quite a few negatives that I could not get past. Who knows if this is the new normal now because of covid and the after effects in tourism, but when your listed as the 4th most luxurious hotel in Puerto Vallarta you start putting out expectations and in our case they were not fulfilled. To begin the dining was extremely all over the place and limited. We arrived on a Saturday and got to have lunch at the buffet it was there Mexican themed day and the food was amazing from tacos to ceviche and tamales and pastries it really was a great start and dinner followed with the same energy. However during the rest of our stay the buffet was only known 2 other times. Every other dinner had to be had at either the tapas restaurant, the "fancy" restaurant or the "Italian" style restaurant. All needed reservations other then the tapas. However when the menu doesn't change by day 3-4 you've eaten everything on the menu at all the places. You also didn't know what restaurants would be open unless you walked to the lobby and found a daily information pamphlet or complained and had someone send you a daily WhatsApp message. This information needs to be articulated prior to booking, during check in etc. it also doesn't help that you can only get food without a reservation until about 11:30 pm but this also could be earlier or later depending on how it was felt that day. If your able to move past not knowing when or where you can eat you get into the issue of entertainment and music. The daily playlist consists of some questionable music which was neither local nor top hits not the biggest deal but I would have loved to hear some Spanish music during my stay. There are scheduled activities through the day but are hardly ever followed, they schedule volleyball, mixology,cooking water aerobics but the only thing that ever was actually done during my 7 day stay was water aerobics. I do badly wanted to play volleyball but after 3 days of showing up and asking if it was still happening and being told no I gave up. 4/7 days I stayed here the pool closed at 8 with the bar as well and then suddenly they were open till 10-11 nothing was consistent. Open check out we were also presented with an unpaid balance of 200pesos for a tip. All meals must be signed for during your stay we always tipped cash for all meals drinks etc. we expressed that the writing for the tip amount was neither of ours handwriting and that 200 pesos was a large amount to leave based on the price of the meal. We were simply told oh really and then asked to pay All in all with the price paid and the promise of luxury if you are under 50 years old you are not the targeted demographic that the marival has aimed for. You'll get one night of a DJ party and that the closest you'll get to something for a younger crowd. There are so many options in Mexico and in Puerto Vallarta, I would not recommend you stay here read more

Beautiful Resort. I recommend not using their pre-paid Transportation service delivered by Viaggio Tours & Travel. Our flight arrived late but we provided a heads up on delay. They were not there to escort us to a vehicle and we ended up getting a different transportation service. With all the hassle upfront, we made a slight change to our return reservation and they wanted an additional $100 USD to complete the transaction. We we ended up on Uber costing $30 USD. No empathy or apologies from Viaggio. Don't prepay for transportation especially from this company. read more

At 315 am on 12.26.21, Nina F. In 5006 of rancho Banderas, went to the kitchen and slipped on standing water on the floor and fell injuring her buttocks. She called maintenance which arrived with Pablo, the operational manager on duty, but the plumber did not know what to do as the tube was changed 2 days prior. They cleaned up the water and left the towel underneath the dishwasher (which was not working at the time) and left. Within 5 minutes the water was leaking from the dishwasher. Nina opened the dishwasher and found it full of water. She called maintenance staff again. The maintenance staff took out the dishwasher outside and drained it. They reinstalled it and placed some kind of a red clamp, which stopped leakage. Later in the day, someone was cleaning their balcony on the third floor and water was flowing out of their drain onto our patio including the lounge on which our 8-year-old was lying. Our stay was completely ruined by dishwasher flooding twice, lack of your maintenance staff's competence in fixing and communication (sending non-English speaking staff when we are not fluent in Spanish), having to spend time waiting for your staff to come, on 12.24.21 the amount of time spent communicating with your staff and being on the room while they fix the leak and clean up was 5 hours. On 12.26.21, the time spent was from 315 am to 515 am (2 hours). The security safe was not working, the vanity door falling off and your staff spilling water on the patio and on our 8-year-old was also avoidable if it was not from neglect of your staff. I have multiple photos of dirt in the 5006, poor wall painting of inside and outside the building. There are holes in drapes and the units are generally poorly kept year after year. To compensate for the horrible quality of service and maintenance, I demand returns of  $500 and a 1-week free stay in the future. Leonel Galindo (lgalindo@marivalresorts.com) has talked to us multiple times during the stay, and finally wrote an email that $500 will be returned, but this has not happened. There is no handicapped access to the beach (15 steps of stairs that staff could carry your stroller or wheelchair). 2.20.19: 5106 at rancho Banderas building is full of maintenance problems: leakages from faucet knobs, under the refrigerator, loud squeaky refrigerator door, maintenance staff that has been unhelpful so far. But, the most annoying issue is having to run hot faucet water for 5 to 10 minutes before hot water appears. The maintenance has explained that since the building of the new hotel in 4.19  the boiler relocation provides a challenge to bringing hot water to rancho Banderas units. It will likely take a few months to fix.  12.21.19: Poor lighting, leaky showers, and faucets. Outside is beautiful, but inside not so much. Called maintenance 3 times before they have responded. Borrowing HDMI cable took 4 phone calls to have it brought to our room. The leaky faucet has not been addressed yesterday and today at 5106. 12.22.19: Until pointed out to the maintenance, nothing is on their radar - they came back today to finish what they could not fix yesterday.  They did exchange the leaky refrigerator after 24 hours of the unsuccessful fix at 1030 pm. Kudos to them for getting another refrigerator at this time. 12.23.19: Maintenance promised to come over at 6 pm, so we were home by that time. But no one showed up until we called at 7 30 pm. Once he had shown up, he has been working for an hour and a half. Fixed the leaky faucet knob and flickering light in the bathroom. Luckily the sound of waves breaking muffles the leaking shower and faucet.  Also, installing railings at 9 pm brings a lovely drill noise. Was approached by a staff member inquiring if I had any questions. I asked about where we can get board games and to what hour. He promised to find out, but he has not gotten back to me today.  This seems to be a common theme - empty promises are made. 12.25.19: our unit ac does not work as it took 12 hours to lower the temp by 1-degree centigrade.  In the room with a window onto stairs, there is a squeaky ceiling fan. 12.26.19: the toilet in the bathroom, adjacent to the bedroom with the patio door, has clogged. The maintenance was advised that we would not be home, but came without the key (i happen to be home still), none of them spoke English. They fixed the shower leakages and unclogged the toilet. This place is too expensive and the management team is appalling . We spent a lot on this property to be told the room we booked ( 2 bedroom suite) didn't exist upon checkin. Can you even imagine ? Food was great as well as our room and the staff. A MAJOR drawback is the chair situation around the main pool. You can't get one! We would go down early to grab some chairs but then go grab breakfast, come back and all our stuff is gone and somebody else is sitting in our spot. The staff needs to come up with a better process. Stayed here for a week in April, and would have given five stars except for one thing (see "Bad" below). Good: Marival switched to adults only in 2022, so there's that. For me, the food is excellent for an all-inclusive. I've stayed at other all-inclusive resorts and the food at Marival was great. Tons of choices at the buffet and all good quality. Some decent booze is available for cocktails as well. The tapas at Blend bar actually became my go-to evening choice. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained and I never really heard much maintenance noise. It feels tropical and private. My room had a wonderful ocean view--but if you want that be sure to ask for a room in one of the far towers near the main pool. Speaking of which... Bad: this is just a personal preference, but the music choices--or should I say choice--left a lot to be desired. Marival seems to feel that all their guests want to listen to trite candy pop thumping dance music from about 10am until 8pm at the pool. On weekends they even brought a DJ to the pool area and it was so loud and annoying that I left my prized lounge chair (get yours by 10am latest) and went to one of the other, more relaxing pools. Again, it's a preference. But many of the guests aren't in their 20s or early 30s, and that's who they seem to be aiming their "music" at. Doesn't make much sense IMO. Other than that, I'd recommend Marival Armony for a beachy, pooly all-inclusive getaway. read more

Another great stay deserving another great review .. Made a last minute Labor Day weekend trip. Nothing but a great time. Food was delicious as usual with a big menu. Kids enjoyed all of the pools as being a member you have access to additional pools and amenities. Beach was awesome entire family was swimming for hours everyday. According to the weather app it said it would rain everyday but that sure wasn't the case it was beautiful everyday but did rain some at night. The staff was super friendly and helpful with getting us lounge chairs and drinks beach side. The fitness center is not bad for a resort and has what you need to get the job done. Really love this resort the staff is super friendly and helpful not once have we ever not felt spoiled by this place. All of The suites are spacious and brand new We will be returning in October.. Got up in the middle of the night to ask about why my sheets and room felt so moist and recepcionist told me it was due to the AC. We planned a much needed week away and boy do we regret it. This was the sh!ttiest (pardon me but it's true) and most stressful trip I've ever experienced (and yes, this is my 4th time in Mexico). This resort really shouldn't be open; as they are deceptive, subpar, and literally shouldn't be open. I'm not sure who has recently been giving this place 5 stars (I saw a review of 5 stars posted by another couple we saw while we were there and they either don't know what they are talking about [it said it was their first time in Mexico so maybe that explains their low, LOW expectations - either that or these people had a serious incentive to write that cr@p]... Perhaps the time share people who try to bribe you and then won't ever leave you alone? ). PS those people ruined our vacation, calling our room back to back to BACK 3 or 4 mornings in a row. Mind you this is while we are on VACATION and have a TIME DIFFERENCE, but I guess these people have never heard of either of those things. Basically to get to the point: -Not even half of the restaurants were open. Basically it's poolside service (no beach service, so that's a lie) and one restaurant per night (which they ask you to make reservations for, despite there being MAYBE 25 guests in the resort). -Even when you order (room service especially) or at any of the "restaurants", or ask for anything in the resort for that matter, there are MAJOR language barriers. Even one of the employees who was actually cool expressed serious frustration about their fellow co-workers lack of English and the constant issues it causes around the resort. Some speak fluent, others speak barely any and totally screw everything up. Basically you never get anything you asked for.... We literally looked to see if Mexico has Uber eats one night because we were starving. -The food that we did order was essentially inedible. Horrible quality. All menus are "downsized" due to Covid, so the entire menu (even for dinner) consists of maybe 10 items. This is a major issue because what if people don't like those dishes? You're basically screwed and going to bed starving, like we were pretty much every night. -If they do give you anything edible, the portion sizes are so ridiculous. My boyfriend is 6'2 and a bean pole and was literally starving but felt bad about ordering additional food while there because they essentially make you feel guilty by initially bringing you tiny portions. ‍ (No, we are not fat. We are both very fit and health conscious but sorry, we DO require food). -This place is not safe. If you're a female, do not go to the bar alone. 45 mins later you won't remember anything and will be returned to your room via wheelchair. WHAT THE F? -Room had a sewer smell. No soaking tub like online photos. Floors were extremely dirty from day one. I enjoy walking around barefoot and noticed on night one that my feet were literally BLACK from simply walking around our tiny room. Disgusting! -Wifi was down for several hours and hit/miss. -Had to call multiple days in a row to ask them to restock our refrigerator with at LEAST water! Stayed here for the past 8 days. Resort was clean and well kept. They charge 150 a day for the cabana and a private pool which is the size of a jacuzzi. Didn't mind that but the drink service took forever. The only time they play music at the pool is during the aerobics hours so bring your own speaker. Tried to plan a nice dinner and instead of steak and lobster for 2 it was steak and lobster for one... you can hear the kids running around in neighboring rooms. AC in the room is centrally controlled so it constantly goes off at night. Most of the staff was very friendly. They say you can get tested for covid any day but they are closed on certain days. Be careful when you get your covid results. You'll need to verify the info! Had I not I wouldn't be getting on my plane today. Overall not bad if you are looking for piece and quiet by a pool. Just to many mistakes that kept adding up resulted in the 2 star rating. read more
