Front desk was friendly, the dental office/equipment looked modern, and the dentists were efficient. Each procedure was explained and front desk helped with scheduling and often notifying for upcoming appointments. So the reason why I stopped going... I had a filling redone due to it coming off. However, I had pain around the same tooth for months. I couldn't eat on that side at all. I went back in for checkups to see if they can figure out what's going on. The head dentist told me to consider getting a crown since there seems to be a cracking on the tooth. They offered to cover the costs however I thought it was a bit extreme to get a crown from a routine filling. Over the next couple months, I would go back multiple times since the pain didn't go away. This included shaving part of the filling, redoing the filling, and trying to figure out my bite. And the final time I went there for a checkup, I was just told it could just be a neurological thing and almost made it sound like it was my fault and they can't do anything about it. The only reason why I kept going back was to give them the opportunity to fix what they had messed up. I ended up looking for another dentist and I told them my issue. They were able to figure what was wrong, and redid my filling. Now I have no pain.

My dentist brother, who practices in Monterey and specializes in cosmetic dentistry was impressed with Dr. Ho's artistry. After being a biannual dental patient with strong healthy teeth, a floss twice a day, take care of myself girl for life, I had some health issues starting in 2019, including broken back, which rendered me immobile for about a year,during covid. My insurance changes and the office changing location did not help, but ya know.....No excuses. The truth is that I had not had a true dentist appointment in over 5 years ( save for a drive by cleaning from my brother's hygienist a couple of years ago.) Today was that first appointment in 5 YEARS and i left South City Smile smiling ear to ear. i was expecting it to be a painful and excruciatingly expensive visit, requiring follow ups,for cavities and a root canal as punishment for neglecting my dental health and not carrying dental insurance. To my surprise and delight, the appointment was pain free, no cavities and a clean bill of dental health. My mouth feels fresh and clean. Best of all, the bill for cleaning, exam and X rays was reasonable. Angelica and Lyndia are the sweetest. At South City Smile, the equipment and ambiance are state of the art. When i gagged at the xray bite wing thingies, the hygienist found smaller ones to accommodate my small mouth and made the x- ray process much more palatable! Dr. Ho performs a thorough exam and did most of the cleaning himself and his chair side manner is above reproach. I was praised for my hygiene and habits of brushing and flossing well, rather than being chided for neglecting my appointments for years. Thank you to South City Smile and the amazing Dr Ho. There is so much chatter about the state of your dental health being a reflection of your overall health. This is despite my being unemployed for most of 2024 and turning 65 at the end of August - yes, I am a "senior". On 9/16/24, I began a position with the State of CA where they offer a variety of dental plans. Since I need a considerable amount of work done - at least 10 implants, I was considering maintaining my current policy and signing up for a policy offered through the state. With open enrollment two weeks away, I wanted to ensure I chose a policy Dr. Luo's office accepted. I called their office multiple times. Each time I tried leaving a message, my message was cut off so that I could only say five words - very frustrating. I even called their office on Saturday as I recall their office is open on Saturday. When my calls were not returned, I sent a text message. Still no response. I should add that Dr. Luo's office had already fitted me with eight to 10 crowns. After insurance paid their max of $2K for the year I paid the remaining $10K in a lump sum check as i want to avoid making payments and se the at Dr. Luo is compensated for his work. When I still received no response, I went to their website and tried reaching out that way. Finally, five days after starting my new job, I called the office for the 20th time. I was told Dr. Luo had COVID and that the office was closed. I explained I started a new job and all I need to know is what type of dental insurance they accept. I recall from past conversations they accept Met Life. When I asked the woman if they accept Met Life she confirmed they did accept the insurance. However when I went into more details, she suddenly said, no we don't accept Met Life. I then asked about Delta Dental. She confirmed they accept Delta Dental but as I went into more specifics she then said, no we don't accept that insurance. Feeling totally frustrated, I told her I will give her the dental providers and she can let me know what plans they accept. She refused to work with me. I have since looked and there are other dentists in my area that are open Saturday. From my past observation(s) it is clear Dr. Luo's staff caters to Asian clients. I am disappointed in how I was treated and will not be returning. Suggestion. Next time Dr. Luo comes down with COVID, you should change your outgoing voicemail message to reflect this so patients are not kept waiting for days on end waiting for a return call. I need thousands of dollars in dental work - implants are my only option. I would have paid upfront but you lost me as a customer due to your substandard treatment of me.
