I had a "cord" of eucalyptus dumped off yesterday for $500.. My request was that I need stove cut which you said is between 16 and 20 inches. Only about half of it was between those numbers. I spent a good amount of time yesterday and this morning chopping it down with my miter saw to usable lengths. I am attaching photos of a typical piece (a few are near 30"). I'm also disappointed in the quality of the load. It looks like this mainly came from the scrap pile as most of the pieces are outer chunks or burl. I've cut a lot of wood in my 61 years of life and no what is scrap and what is not. In retrospect, I should have not accepted the load but it was off the truck before I had time to inspect it (the guy was in a tremendous hurry). read more

I have been going to this nursery for at least 15 years to get a scoop of firewood. A couple years ago the nursery changed its name to Hannah's nursery. Once the name changed the scoop that I purchased in the past has been reduced in size by about 50%. I have a Toyota Tacoma short bed and every time I bought a scoop in the past it filled up the entire bed the last two times I went to buy a scoop of wood, it only filled up about 50% of my truck bed. A couple weeks ago I went and complained when I got such a small amount of wood. They gave me another wheelbarrow full, but it still was not as much as I previously had been receiving from them. Got two cords of almond wood in 2021 that was supposed to be seasoned, properly cured. It was not. It was near impossible to get a fire started. Had to use cases of Fat Wood to get a fire going and keep it going. Now two later it fires right up. That's how I knew the wood was not seasoned when I got it. Do not buy firewood from this place! It is not seasoned. I usually go to Sepulveda building materials in San Bernardino for my Wood every year but my big truck was broken down so I went to what used to be Mark and Nelly's and I bought $200 worth of hard wood and had to take it back because it was not seasoned so then they gave me almond and this stuff doesn't burn either. We have a moisture gauge to where you put the prongs into the wood and it let you know how seasoned the wood is, it was between 27-42 % not seasoned read more

The new owner charged me $49 a scoop for fill dirt, I bought two scoops, I have never bought fill dirt before, so I didn't realize she had ripped me off. When they delivered it , it was short, and looked like they scraped off their yard, the driver agreed it was short, so he went back and got more. When I finally got ahold of Hannah the owner, to tell her she made a mistake on pricing, she argued that the price was right, even after I told her that her competitors charge, $8.50 to $15.00 a scoop. I was nice and polite when I talked to her, I asked her if she would be willing to make things right, and bring me more dirt for the value that I paid. ($100) she wouldn't budge, she actually started getting angry at me, so I said that's fine, I'll go elsewhere ( I went to Graham and got 7 full scoops for $59) read more

I bought 2 scoops of firewood and asked if it was dry and was told yes. I got it home and stacked it, I tried to light it and it would not light. after splitting many pieces it was all green. this is the second time they sold me green wood that would not burn. The thing is I burn wood in my heat stove to keep my home heated and them selling green wood then not being able to burn it is serious. I called them and they said sorry you can bring it back, that is a lot of work. I went to Oak Hills nursery and bought a cord of eucalyptus and it was nice dry wood. I will have to wait until next winter to burn the wood I bought Mark & Nellies so it will dry out over the next summer. If you need good dry firewood don't buy from these guys. read more

This company did not have poor customer service they had no service at all. My wife and I parked in the front of their office and as soon as we entered the front door, whoever was in the office decided to walk out of the back door. When we went outside, two staff members looked at us and then turned their backs to us. During our 10 minute walk of their nursery, not once did either turn around to acknowledge our presence or ask if we needed help. Truth be told the whole experience felt like a deliberate refusal to do business with me. After taking the hint that my money was not welcome both my wife and I got back into our car. It was only then that the two turned around to look at us. This was my first and last time ever going to this company. read more

I went through a rainy Christmas without a fire. As many years as they have sold firewood they know they were selling wet firewood. The new management don't know thier ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to wood. They also lie saying it is dry wood? And no red eucalyptus which the load was full of not to mention the twisted mangled crap that too big to fit into the fireplace. Shall we mention all the little water logged blocks that are fit only for a fire pit. And paid over $400 %$%#$& bucks for this shit? These new owners are ruining a once good name. The owners and their staff really know their stuff, their plants are beautiful and they have a huge selection. Prices are fair, delivery is $40 but they also help load everything up in your car for free. This place was awesome. I called for an estimate on some landscaping and Mark came out the very next day. The price was right for the amount of work that I needed to get done. And the quick turn was even better. Mark and his crew came out the very next day and finish the work in 1 day and a few hours of the next. I bought three Azalea 1 gallon plants from them 5 weeks ago, they got watered every other day starting on Sunday thru Saturday, they died almost within three weeks after planting them, I called M & N and was told that I didn't water them enough which is BS... I new I should have went and got them from Lowe's...... I have had problems like this with M&N in the past and they always have an excuse for not wanting to back the plants they sell....NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY FROM THEM!....and I will be sure never to recommend them for anything. I have been here a few different times looking for a bunch of different plants. I am normally greeted and the person leaves me to walk around on my own. I don't like when a person follows me so I like to be able to shop on my own without the salesperson asking me questions or trying to sale me stuff. The people are nice enough here but I know absolutely nothing about planting a tree or having a garden. I kill everything and need advice. They don't seem to have the right people there all the time to offer help and advice. Sometimes I get a really knowledgeable person helping me and sometimes I am with a younger person who is just as confused as I am. I know they sale a lot of different stuff like firewood an rock so if you are in need of that they can help you out there too. I ended up buying my rock from a rock yard and had my men do the work. We've been getting our firewood from them since last winter. Had a few problems with the wood being wet/dirty. So, this year - after first looking high and low for another place to buy our wood from after the disappointment from last winter - when we went back we made a comment about the wood being wet and dirty and we were told to NEXT time please call them and let them know (we should have thought of that ourselves, right?!) and they'll make it right!... so this batch of wood we got is awesome! No more fighting to light it for an hour or more! So, 5 stars for the quality of the firewood AND the wonderful customer service! We will definitely be back next winter! read more

Wanted to go to mark and Nelly's nursery for awhile now and i didn't know they moved locations but figured it out and made my way over . the new location is easy to find on the main strip of bear valley rd , we arrived and at first there wasnt anyone out in the nursery to guide us but then an employee came out didnt seem too too helpful but no big deal we browsed around and checked out the different offerings of the nursery i wasn't impressed not to be mean I guess i was expecting more however when we went inside to buy the baby palm tree we had picked out that is when the magic happened indoors i saw beautiful plants that i had never seen before the young woman at the desk was so cheery and helpful it was nice and cool inside and they had various indoor plants there was a side room with different soils and things but im new to gardening and planting so i didnt really know what that stuff was overall I recommend you visit this local nursery read more

I had some work done and it was not done right I have contacted Mark some many times and he keeps giving me the run around, he says he is so busy that he won't be able to come and fix the problem for a couple of weeks and then a month goes by I call again and it is the same answer, he has been here and knows what has to be fixed and he has not come back to fix it, I feel like a fool because I paid him in full and now he will not come back and do what is right. I'm giving them 2 stars simply because the woman in the office was a pleasure to work with. I came here Sunday 11/22/15 at around 2pm for a $70 scoop of eucalyptus fire wood. It was my first time ever having to buy firewood as we just purchased our home here in Victorville and have never had a fireplace before. I went in the office and purchased my scoop for $70 and was sent around the side with my truck to await my order. There was a gentleman in his vehicle in front of me so I just pulled behind him to wait. I watched as 2 of the workers hand loaded 2 scoops of eucalyptus wood and dumped it into his truck with the bobcat. I was excited to see that they took such care in making sure he received nice size fireplace logs and none of the little mess and dirt. That gentleman must have been a friend because that was not the experience I had. The workers checked my receipt and went to the same pile the last gentleman received from. They haphazardly scooped with the bobcat and I could see all of the dirt and wood debris falling off the bucket. When they placed it in my truck the dust cloud erupted engulfing the entire backend of my truck. When I said oh so how much extra is all the dirt. The gentleman on the bobcat responded "free". The other worker said to the one on the bobcat "we should give him another scoop". They then went back and picked about 15 or so logs up with the bobcat and placed it in my truck. I left and unloaded at home having to sift through the dirt and wood debris for whatever usable wood was there. Mind you through my entire experience the staff was always friendly and polite. I am just surprised that they took so little care in making sure the wood they were providing was pleasing to there non friend customers. I'm not sure if I'll be coming back here or recommending to any of my family or friends. read more

We have purchased firewood for the last two seasons from Mark & Nellie's. First year was great but this year is terrible. First load we got a lot of 2 inch branches and chocks of about 6-8 inch long and the wood did not burn well, perhaps a little green. The last load we ordered I stipulated please no small chocks and not a lot of 2 inch branches. Not only did I get everything I didn't want but more than the first load. For $275 plus delivery to Phelan I expect not to get a lot of what you might find on the forest floor but I think it should be all split lumber at 14 - 18 inches long and dry. I will say that everyone you talk to when you call them are very pleasant. I read a lot of reviews where they get great reviews for landscaping and nursery and I'm sure they are deserved. Unfortunately, for me anyway, the whole firewood experience is going to cause me to look elsewhere to spend $1000 a year. read more
