After having a horrific experience with another podiatrist, I turned to Yelp for a better option. My Yelp community came through and delivered Dr. Co. From the warmth of Courtney at the front desk, to medical assistant Beverly to Dr. Co himself, customer service is taken seriously here. The office is lovely and centrally located in the North of Market hood. Dr. Co is a friendly man who not only knows his stuff but insists on explaining it in plain English. He did the minimum necessary to address my issue and never tried to up-sell me to more work. He was gentle but aggressive in his treatments, even having me email him pictures of my foot before scheduling each follow up, so I would not have to come in for a "looks fine" appointment. He was clear about what I could do to speed up the healing, which empowered me to take proper care of a complicated problem. Dr. Co did a great job for my ingrown nail issue. He was very thorough and made sure it was not painful.

I wanted to reserve my opinions of Dr. Co; however, after my first interaction with him I feel obligated to speak up. Though the office was nice and I was able to see Dr. Co rather quickly, I got the impression that it was at the end of his day and he was over it. This took place roughly around 1:30 or 2pm. From the instant that I met Dr. Co. he appeared unbothered that (1) I was in his office and/or (2) the reason for my visit. Aside from giving me a orthopedic insert pamphlet, his services were useless. I still did not understand the reason behind my foot pain. It would have been helpful if he at least showed that he cared and explained my condition. That said, I had to follow up with another doctor. read more

I was referred to this office by my primary care doctor. I had my choice of 3 doctors in this office. After reading the Yelp reviews, I choose Dr. Co. All the reviews about him were spot on. He is quite friendly, personable, and easy to talk to and understand. He examined my toe, took xrays, explained what the problem was, my options, and I was on my way. I felt good knowing what was wrong and what my options are to take care of it. Dr. Co's friendly demeanor made me a believer and I will be returning for anything foot related. Everyone at the Northern California Foot & Ankle clinic was awesome! I was referred by the awesome folks at Wellspring Medical. From Courtney being super helpful at the front office as I explained I was moving to a new employer and needed to check if I was covered under my new group plan and she immediately made a call to confirm! To the physician's assistant who got me settled in the room and ensured I was comfortable. To Dr. Co himself who was very informative, professional, and explained in very clear terms what my treatment & recovery would like like for a sprained foot/ankle. First of all, he is a nice guy. He gave me a shot which ultimately didn't work and I can't blame him for that. My problem is I knew I needed my gait analyzed and that the way I walk was probably related to my problem and that I need new orthotics. His response was to have me call my insurance company to ask if they covered particular diagnoses. This resulted in an extended conversation between two non medical people-myself and the customer service person at blue cross. She had no idea what I was talking about though she was nice and tried to find out. I think this should really be the job of the person who works in his office. If you don't want to deal with insurance don't contract with insurance. The customer service person and I ended up thinking that my lame insurance might only cover orthotics if I have diabetes which I don't. I'm not going back to Dr Co because he said that if I have to pay out of pocket I have to pay the same as if insurance is paying. 300 bucks. Anyway, I"m suffering and I'm going to go to a different podiatrist this time. read more

Dr. Co has treated three members of my 4-member household. We are all impressed by the quality of his care and his dedication to his patients. My daughter and I first went to him for insoles, which have turned out to be excellent and most helpful for our feet and general body health. He redid at no cost one insole that initially did not feel completely adjusted. Afterwards, my husband broke his fibula and Dr. Co rearranged his schedule in order to see him the same day we called. His care was excellent, and when my husband went on several trips and had to ask him questions over email, Dr. Co responded quickly and efficiently. When my daughter broke her fibula while living abroad, we asked Dr. Co a few questions regarding her situation over email. Dr. Co graciously responded, again quickly and very efficiently, so that we had a better understanding of her situation and the treatment she was receiving outside of the country. We are very grateful to him for taking such excellent care of us, and also for how pleasant he and his staff are. After being in denial for some weeks, I realized I needed to pay attention to some symptoms that had been plaguing me related to an infection and subsequent inflammation in one of my toes. My initial encounter by telephone with Dr. Co's staff could not have been more positive, they were helpful and efficient and got me an appointment within 24 hours. Dr. Co is the epitome of a confident, knowledgeable and skilled physician. He quickly explained his diagnosis in layman's language, taking care to be sure I understood. He then reviewed in detail the treatment options that were available to me. Took my mom to see Dr. Co due to pain in her big toe which had been bothering her for months. Dr. Co made the correct diagnosis right away and explained to us the different treatment options, even going out of his way to explain to us that the less intrusive (and no doubt less expensive) option might be good enough for her. My mom chose that option, and Dr. Co was right! Her pain disappeared almost immediately, and we are impressed, not just because of his competency but because of his unbiased opinions. Dr. Co performed my bunion surgery and he did a great job.

He may be a great doctor, but his office manager is hostile. I had an appointment with Dr. Co earlier this year (2019), and was advised to get fitted for new orthotics. He seemed professional, capable and courteous. Once I'd met my deductible a few months later, I called his office to try and arrange for those new orthotics, and unfortunately found myself in conversation with a rather combative and emotional office staff member. She put me on hold for several minutes, which was fine as I was happy to wait. But she seemed very stressed and hostile when she then picked up my call. I asked for some simple information about my diagnosis from the office notes, and she not only would not provide it to me, but started angrily lecturing me that she was in charge of this phone call and we'd do things her way. After she angrily scolded and interrupted me several times, I politely said that I'd sort this out another way and tried to end the call, at which point she said, "I'll hang up on you now!!" This was shocking and beyond unprofessional. We all have bad days, but life is too short - and health care is complicated enough! - to be yelled at by your doctor's office staff. I also emailed the doctor, as it's a shame that there's such a barrier to receiving his care. read more

Dr. Co is such a talented and caring physician. I went to see him after being diagnosed with a broken foot in the ER. He timed my recovery perfectly, knowing exactly when to encourage me to put pressure on it, forgo crutches, get out of the boot, etc. I've healed flawlessly and am jogging again after only 6 weeks! My primary care practitioner referred me to Dr. Co saying that "You need to take care of your foot fungus". It had been 2 years since I had been comfortable wearing sandals or flip-flops because of a growing number of thickening and weird looking toenails. On top of that what I thought was a callus on the end of my middle left toe turned out to be a very stubborn wart. Dr. Co treated me for the fungus with a combination of laser therapy and a topical solution I put on once a day. I have a couple of months to go before total healthy toe grow-out. But the results have been so great already (4 months) that I am wearing flip-flops again with my toes looking almost back to normal. Dr Co also diagnosed & removed the wart which went a long way in improving the overall look. I'm completely happy with the treatments. The laser treatments can get hot, but it's not horrible and it works. Dr. Co and his staff are friendly. He puts you at ease and I couldn't give him a higher recommendation. read more

I had an enormously positive experience with Dr. Co. He has a very calm, gentle presence and really takes the time to listen to questions and concerns as well as explain treatments and options. I went in for removal of a very painfully infected ingrown toenail, and the most painful part of the procedure was the injection of anaesthetic! I had expected to deal with soreness the next day but have had NO pain, infection, or residual issues whatsoever since my procedure (nearly three weeks later) and could wear normal shoes the very next day without trouble. In addition, the office staff are wonderful and responsive--appointments are easy to make and I have never waited more than five minutes after walking in the door before being seen. I have pain in my big toe on one foot and stabbing pain in two toes on the other foot. He said the pain was because calluses were pressing on nerves in my feet. He took a scalpel and proceeding to scrape away the calluses on the bottom of my feet. The two toes with stabbing pain did not have calluses anywhere near them so that cannot be the cause of the pain but Dr. Co would not listen to me. He told me to come back in 90 days and I did go back only because I thought he would finally address my pain properly and listen to what I had to say. He came in with a scalpel in his hand and began scraping the bottom of my feet again. I said, "You already did that." and he said the calluses were growing back which is not true and he just grabbed my foot and stabbed me with the scalpel. I screamed and he ran out of the room saying, "Maybe someone else can help you". End of appointment. Go to him only if you enjoy lots of pain. He is a sadist, period. read more
