Appointments are often rescheduled, making it difficult to plan or take time off work with confidence. The biggest issue has been billing. Estimated charges rarely match the final cost, and it often feels like a bait-and-switch--services are approved based on one estimate, only to later be told insurance doesn't cover them. We've had the same insurance for years, so inaccurate quotes for things like composite fillings are frustrating and avoidable. This used to be a place we trusted and recommended, but we stopped going some time ago, and after today, my wife has decided she's done as well.

I showed up for a routine cleaning to find that they no longer accepted Delta Insurance (they did not inform me of this change ahead of time). I chose to cancel my appointment and my wife's, which was scheduled soon after. The business manager met with me, and said that because they hoped to keep us as customers (and hoped to resume taking Delta by our next appointments), they would waive the charge for both my appointment and wife's if we did not cancel them. All went well until they were unable to resume taking Delta, and we had to change to another dentist (which provided superior care AND covered 100% of our dental expenses under Delta). Then, we suddenly began receiving bills for the appointments the business manager had waived. It seems that if they couldn't get us to pay cash for future appointments, rather than use our insurance (a cost of well over $1000 a year just for cleanings and exams), then they were going to do their best to squeeze what they could out of us, and were not going to let ethics or integrity get in the the way of a little money. I've talked to them on the phone, in person, and written to them. At first, they confirmed that the cost should have been waived. But they just keep sending bills for the amount they previously waived. I don't even know if that office manager still works there, and there's likely no one who now remembers a conversation from that long ago. It's a pain to deal with them constantly trying to collect less than $300 they are not owed. I think it's been two years of harassment from them. But they did me a favor too, and I hope it's one for you too if you're looking for a dentist in Merced. There are so many dishonest dentists preying on patients. I thought I'd found an honest one in El Portal. As stressful as this is, it likely saved me far more money in the long run by forcing me to leave them before getting taking advantage of by their unscrupulous business practices. Steer clear! I know it can be hard to find a new dentist in Merced, but don't settle for a practice you can't trust.

So, I could either travel north towards Mariposa or go down to Fresno. Yosemite Dental Care was able to squeeze me in and help me with my tooth ache so I can continue my vacation. The facility was clean and the staff were all kind and friendly. Unfortunately I needed a root canal done by an endodontist, so the dentist recommended that I take some antibiotics until I could get home to my dentist and get my root canal done at home. Within 30 minutes I got my prescription at Rite Aid, (which was right down the street), and I was back on the road to continue my vacation. Within 24 hours the pain got better and within 36 hours the pain was almost completely gone. I would highly recommend this dental care facility to anyone needing to see a dentist.

Good thing I have a good memory because there was no confirmation call or text, no direction on what time to come in to fill out paperwork or if I can fill it out online and bring it in. When I came in I waited over 30 minutes to be seen. When I was taken to the back, the tech did some X-rays on me as usual and the dentist came in for literally 1 minute and just started blurting things out that I needed - you need this and this and this...you know this right? After 1 minute he said any questions? And I was sent back to the front. I have never been to an office that took under 20 minutes for a consultation and I wasn't aware that I would not be getting a cleaning at this time. Every office has their protocols but it should have been discussed. I am a healthcare provider myself and the quality of care I received was poor. On Thursday I broke my wisdom tooth (which I had previously cracked about a month ago). The whole right side of my face felt like it was throbbing, my head was constantly in pain, I could not eat, I could barely sleep, and the pain was like nothing I've ever felt before. I reached out to Dr. Rami at SmileRite Family Dentistry and within 24 hours he was able to set me up for an appointment. Now mind you, I've always hated dentists but Dr. Rami is not your typical dentist. I explained to him my greatest fear was pain during the extraction. This man legitimately checked in with me every 5 minutes to make sure I was okay and not in pain. At one point I felt some pain during the extraction, he stopped the operation, gave me more anesthesia (to insure I was in the least amount of pain possible) and then VERY GENTLY transitioned back to working on my tooth. I genuinely have a completely different perspective of Dentists because of Dr. Rami. He was genuine, straight to the point, and did not try to push any unwanted procedures on me. Before operating on my wisdom tooth he made sure to xray my teeth, pinpoint the EXACT issue, and diagnose me professionally. THANK YOU SO MUCH DR. RAMI and everyone else at SMILRITE. When you have a team of 3 health professionals all working diligently to resolve your pain and health issues, then know you are in great hands. They worked fast to get me in, they worked faster to figure the problem, and the worked the fastest on the actual solution. 100% would recommend (especially to those who have a fear of dentists)!!!
