A sister restaurant to Foam Brewers! We spent a weekend in Burlington, VT visiting breweries, wine bars, a comedy show, eating, shopping and it was wonderful. Deep City was a recommendation for brunch from a local. It is the sister restaurant to Foam Brewers (right next door). When we walked in there was a small wait but not bad. We headed over to the brewery to grab coffee and to check it out. It is definitely a cool spot. They have a huge selection of beer, a small wine program (who knew) and small bites. Unfortunately they did not have TVs or else we would've come back to watch the football game but we did purchase some beer before heading back over for brunch at Deep City. The menu here is a little more Mexican-forward think Huevos Rancheros, but there was still plenty of items that looked appealing. We split the banana bread with maple walnut cream cheese (to die for) to share as an app which was fresh and delicious. I also ordered a fruit cup which was also good. We then shared their Huevos Verdes which is similar to Huevos Rancheros except it came with a tomatillo salsa. It was good but very sloppy to eat. I loved this spot! I was sad to see that Penny Cluse has closed since the last time we were in the area, but discovered that Deep City is some kind of new iteration, and I'm so glad we decided to stop in for brunch. First of all, they have a parking lot, which is free to park in, which was super convenient. The menu is interesting and everything sounded so good, including the daily features (duck hash, yum)! It made it super difficult to decide what to order, but we eventually settled on the biscuits and herb gravy, the across the pond, a side of the cheesy kale, the polenta breakfast dish, and the trout and eggs. Our server was super patient and kind and the food was amazing. I don't usually like biscuits and gravy that much, but their vegetarian gravy was so tasty. It reminded me a bit of broccoli cheddar soup in the best way, and the biscuits were flaky. I'd had the English breakfast plate at Penny Cluse before, and this one was even better. I loved the mushrooms and the sausage. The cornmeal crusted trout on the trout and eggs plate was crispy and not fishy at all, and the best trout I've ever tried. I loved that everything we ordered was so saucy since I'm a big sauce girl. This place is high on my list to revisit when I'm back in Burlington! read more

Deep City was recommended to us by a server at another restaurant. It's located right down by the waterfront and attached to Foam Brewers. The service was excellent and we were greeted and seated immediately. They also have a patio which was great on such a beautiful day. We started with coffees and bloodies, both of which hit the spot! The food was great. We split a pancake, biscuits and gravy, garlicky kale and eggs and the huevos Verdes. The pancake was just the right amount of fluffy and was great with the local maple syrup. My favorite was the garlicky kale and eggs. I'm usually not a huge kale fan but it was cooked down and sauteed with cheese and garlic which complemented the over easy eggs nicely. They also served it with warm corn tortillas which was a nice touch. I saw they had ribs on the specials menu but with it being just 10AM we opted for breakfast . Beautiful lakeside eatery with their own parking lot so you don't have to pay. Service was prompt once we arrived. Food took a bit of time but is expected with what comes out of that kitchen! Fruit cup had lots of seasonal variety, fresh and sweet. It's really a bowl, not a cup so plenty for two. The highlight was the pork tourtine. It was a special for the day. Came with a delightful cabbage slaw, stone ground mustard, and gherkins. The filling was hearty with well balanced spice. The mustard and pickles accompanied the tourtine well balancing out flavors. Loooved this place! I believe it's switched owners since last time I got lunch here years ago- I heard it's now run by the good people of Penny Cluse, an old favorite off Church St. Me and my girlfriends adored our food and it was a great end to the weekend. Standouts from this early morning meal were the (VEGETARIAN!!) biscuits and gravy, and my spinach pesto tofu with grilled corn muffins. I'm always a sucker for pesto but I think they really nailed the tofu. Really had the wow factor for us three considering we aren't breakfast people. Can't wait to come back! read more

Why haven't I been here sooner? This place has a fun environment, great food, many vegetarian options (I'm not one but I think it's important to share!) and some nods to the previously loved establishment on Cherry Street (Penny Cluse). In fact, that's the dish I ordered! This was so filling! And they do have parking available which is so nice! The staff was also very good about sharing responsibility. The host was also taking orders when needed and giving checks/processing payments. I love the team environment so you don't have to wait for one person to become available. Wow! Easily the best breakfast I've had in a very long time. Don't miss this spot with SO many offerings for an array of diets, plus Foam Brewers on tap so you can have a high-quality beer at 9am! I was torn between the garlicky kale and eggs and the biscuits and gravy, so I opted to upgrade my order to get both! Best decision ever. The garlicky kale was fantastic, with a crisp cheesiness to it. The biscuits were fluffy and filling and the vegetarian gravy was perfectly herby and peppery. 100/10, no notes. (I even ordered an extra side of it to douse my meal in). This is truly what my savory breakfast dreams are made of! My husband got the clam chowder which he raved about as well. But one of his favorite parts of this meal? The fact that you can order a coffee AND a Foam Brewers beer on tap. They even had beers that Foam Brewers didn't have on tap next door, so it was cool to try some different options. The staff was incredibly friendly, with quick service. Came across this in Burlington next to the lake as we were coming to get beers at Foam Brewers. Deep City is their concept restaurant in the same building, with a bigger food menu. It has some pretty impressive things. A lot of it's meaty but not all of it. There's plenty of plant based choices that replicate the meaty stuff. After seeing this place open we changed plans and went here instead. It's a fancier looking place than the brewery next to it. The prices unfortunately reflect this. It's about $16 for typical items. They got rid of the half portions they had, and now only have the bigger more expensive ones. Boo. There's plenty of plant based options including the Vegan Poutine. Looks a lot like the real item. This instead has cashew squash queso and maitake mushrooms. Good but expensive. This is the only big issue. For sure the food is good. It's just pricy, and they now only have the big portions. These may cost too much, but the good thing is there's plenty to get for vegans and vegetarians. read more

Good time next to the University of Vermont. Started with the brussel and elote dip. The brussels were really good, simple and well cooked. As good as the brussles were the elote dip was better, the flavors and spice was spot on. The main courses were ok. I went with the ribs/brisket 2 meat combo with cabbage slaw and mac n cheese. The brisket was ok, some parts were perfectly cooked and others were too dry. The ribs were cooked much better with the right amount of smoke. The sides were disappointing. The mac n cheese was just not saucy enough and the noodles were undercooked. The cabbage slaw lacked flavor. The beer was very good, went with the local dork and secret pizza. Outstanding and flavorful brews. Cool and chill at atmospheres. The strive for the beer was really fast the food took quite a while to get out. read more

First time here & so glad we decided to try it out! Ambiance is incredible and modern cozy (which pairs perfectly with foam brewery next door for post-dinner drinks!). We went for the deep city poutine and cheese curds for appetizers which were certainly not like your typical fried foods. Cheese curds had a nice extra zest to them without the greasy feel. Split a burger and the Mac and cheese. Thin burgers cooked through with great fresh toppings and a unique house sauce. Fun cocktails, too, but didn't indulge today. Will be back! read more

We made a reservation to be seated outdoors and it was quite the lovely night. In fact, it was our last night in Burlington and I feel like coming to Deep City really ended the trip with a bang. It was a Saturday night, so I wasn't surprised at the crowd but with such delicious food and drink, I'm shocked there weren't more people lining up to get in. I want to say it's like a best kept secret. But it shouldn't be, this place is freaking lovely and we decided that if we lived here, we'd come here all the time. We ordered a few rounds of cocktails, all being well-balanced, delicious and strong. We also over ordered on food but it was so good we gorged ourselves with all of it, including a dessert at the end. Is their poutine traditional? Nope. Is it delicious? Heck yeah. I can see why it's one of the best sellers here. I'd highly recommend the beets as well. One of my favorite dishes of the night. Our server was just lovely as well. She was a bit overwhelmed with tables at first, in fact we had to wait to be seated for a bit to have her catch up, but she was super attentive and really helpful and friendly so we had a great time. read more

After a truly stunning sunset on Lake Champlain, we made our way to dinner at Deep City. I was super excited to try it because they have a ton of vegetarian and vegan options...so many that I had a hard time choosing. We finally settled on: Elote Dip - This was my favorite dish and different from any elote that I've had before. It was more of a cross between queso and elote, so it was right up my alley. Brussel Sprouts - These were good, but there was nothing particularly unique about them. The crispy pieces were really good, but other pieces weren't as flavorful. Vegan Poutine - I'd heard of poutine, but never actually tried it before, and it turns out I'm not a fan. I like French fries on their own, but don't really need the toppings. Also, I think the lack of color kind of threw me off. The staff was incredibly friendly from the hosr to the bartenders and waiters, and the space manages to feel both open and intimate. It's also a very short walk from the waterfront, which is a can't miss in Burlington! read more

The location and setting of this place is hard to beat - close to the lake and great indoor/outdoor seating options. Food-wise, it wasn't quite my taste. The Deep City Poutine is a different take on the traditional dish. I was expecting the gravy to have a different flavoring and thought the cheese got lost in everything. Blown away! On a recent trip to Burlington, Vermont we were hoping to find a local treasure and this Deep City is a gem!! We tripped over this place it while watching the sunset over Lake Champlain. we yelped for some local food and Deep City came up. We didn't know if we'd get in as it was a Sunday night and Burlington is a college town. The only empty table in the place was reserved, but, it was reserved for 7pm so we had just over and hour before we'd need to book it. Perfect! We got the table and a round of drinks. The restaurant was hopping but food and drinks were coming out fast. The special that night was mussels in broth with garlic steamed in a local IPA from the brewery next door. I got that. They came with a nice crunchy piece of bread with a perfect char (I love a good crunchy bread, so I was in heaven). The portion was definitely sharable. My nephew got the vegan poutine fries heaped with pickled mushrooms and cashew cheese. He could not eat them fast enough! My daughter got the Chicken Fried Chicken sandwich with fries, the sandwich was as big as her head. I didn't get a bite but she horked it! Her only complaint was she wanted the slaw on the side. So if that's your thing, ask for slaw on the side. The staff were super accommodating, our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. She answered our questions and offered some information on where our food came from. I can't say how grateful we were that they let us have a reserved table. We made sure we didn't linger, we paid and were done in time for them to clean and seat the next party. The atmosphere is fun, hipster, trendy and overall pretty cool. Décor is funky and artsy, full bar, large selection of beer and wine as well as special cocktails. I found the prices reasonable considering the location, Burlington is a pretty popular touristy type place mixed with that College vibe. This place is good for a crowd lots of family style tables in the middle with tables scattered around the edge. The bar looked cool, I didn't use the restrooms but my family said they were decent. Not sure if there was Wi-Fi there we didn't bother to ask. Every seat was full the night we were there. It was not hard to have a conversation, the noise level was fine. I came here last weekend with my partner's parents and really enjoyed it. We got the vegan poutine and the standard poutine, a round of different beers from Foam Brewers next door, and some sides like the asparagus. The atmosphere was very relaxed but felt clean and nice and like you were at a restaurant rather than a brewery. I loved the stout they had on draft, they played great music, the vegan poutine was tasty and had really good crispy mushroom bits. Unfortunately, it shared the bathroom with the adjacent brewery and lack of the changing table in both men and women's restroom. They also added a 2% hidden charge of "kitchen service fee" which I was not aware of before ordering. I would be fine if I was informed ahead of time or they charged higher price per dish to increase the pay for the staff but was annoyed to learn this while I received the check. Deep City does not disappoint. In addition to having the best beer in Vermont, the food is super creative farm to table. We started with the Pomykala Melon Salad. I had to ask the waitress to turn away while I licked the plate. Lol. Next was the main course. My wife had the Grilled Salmon and I ordered the Shrimp Gumbo. The Salman was grilled to perfection with a seasoned and super guy crispy skin. The Gumbo was also on point and delish complete with spicy andouille sausage. We had a really pleasant dinner here, both getting sandwiches and their homemade chips. The chips were solid, though nothing to write home about, watching the fries go by after made me regret the decision to go with chips, as the fries looked fantastic. My wife loved her Jerk Chicken sandwich, flavors were balanced, not really spicy at all but flavorful. I got the Hot & Blue sandwich, it was quite solid though nothing astonishing in this new bold world of fried chicken sandwiches at so many good restaurants. The hot sauce was flavor but not particularly hot, and the blue cheese was quite good. Bun was good. Service was very good, and they're taking COVID seriously and it's appreciated. Outdoor seating was well spaced and felt completely safe in that way. Beer selection was solid, though different than Foam next door, which was a bit surprising. We'd gotten a couple foam beers the night before we loved that weren't available at the restaurant, but I'm guessing on average it's every bit as good of a selection, and the variety is actually nice. its an unfortunate turn for the restaurant for 2023. in multiple past years, they have had a diverse menu of meals and sandwiches. They must have lost their head chef or someone decided to make the menu more of a pub menu. Currently they only have a few sandwiches to choose from for your meal. We ended up with one childrens burger and one adult brisket burger. The burgers were almost identical. They were unfortunately layered with salt. i mean...a lot of salt in the seasoning. we could only finish 1/2 the burgers due to the seasoning. If i remember right...they also had a much more hearty poutine on the menu prior as well. All in...its fine for a chicken sandwich and an appetizer. Such a great spot. My husband and I split the two meat platter. We got the pork belly and brisket along with a side of macaroni and cheese and fries. The meat was served with three different barbecue sauces: mustard, kimchi, and maple. It also was paired with pickled jalapeños, onions, and pickles. We were very impressed with the meats and sauces. Very smoky, tender and a large portion. The macaroni and cheese was decent but I felt it was a little dry. The french fries on the other hand were to die for. I've been excited to check out Deep City since they opened and found myself at Foam this past weekend for FOTW. I assumed it would be impossible to get a table without a reservation. While still at Foam I asked the bartender if she thought there would be a wait at 5pm on a Saturday and without hesitation she said "I'll go check". She came back and told us that we had an hour and a half window reservation so whenever we were done at Foam to head over and the hostess at Deep City would be waiting for us. We walked next door and were seated immediately. They have a great beer list and some interesting cocktails. The food menu is small and I do wish it had more variety but at the end of the day everything was good, the experience was nice and I'd return mainly for the convenience factor (because I always visit Foam when in town). read more

We absolutely loved our drinks and food at DC. This was our first visit and actually our first meal out in Burlington. We were two adults and two kids. My wife and I split a burger and a farmers salad. Kids had the kids burger and grilled cheese. The food was PERFECT! They serve FOAM beer and my wife loved her glass of wine. Really disappointed in this restaurant. We overall did not have a good time or particularly enjoy the food. We wanted to go to Hen of The Wood but they were completely booked. This was the next place with 4.5 stars so we made a resy well in advance. When we arrived the hostess checked us in and then picked up a phone call which we thought was a little weird. We were sat at a more community table / picnic style next to a party of 6. We immediately asked for one of the open tables of two and wirier checking the hostess said no due to other reservations (we also reserved so this was confusing why other groups of twos reservations had priority over ours), we were out for Valentine's Day. Finally we asked our waiter and he was able to talk to the host and we were moved. As you can imagine, several of the tables of two were never filled with these "reservations" he mentioned. Throughout the night there was atleast 3 tables of two empty at all times. This was overall odd and a little upsetting. The next thing we did not like was the wait. It took almost one hour+ for our food to come out. Again, not a busy restaurant and we ordered a burger (super thin burger) and the pork chop (dry and had little to no flavor). The restaurant did have parking out front which was nice and lake champain is across the way which is nice for a pre-dinner or post-dinner stroll. Our waiter was absolutely amazing, incredibly kind and sweet. The food is very mid and price range is $15-25 for entrees and like 5-10 for small bites like fries or bread. The restaurant was playing pretty loud music as well. It's almost have a vibe of a cafe that was converted into s dinner restaurant. Unfortunately our experience with the waiter started things off rough and we continued to be disappointed. read more

I've been here twice. The Black and Blue chicken sandwich, has the option of grilled or fried, is very good. It's starts with a hint of sweetness, that turns into a slow burning heat. It's very good, not too spicy, but is actually hot The hamburger is also very delicious!! Great meat, very tender and juicy. Just paid a visit to Deep City as it was not around the last time we were in town. We are avid Foam Brewers enthusiasts and so when we saw this place, we had to check it out. The food was good but it wasn't anything outstanding. They obviously provide more options than Foam has had in the past since they generally only offered charcuterie plates. It is a nice change. The food was good but what shined for us was the beer selections available. The beer offerings were completely different from what Foam had next door. They offered bottles as well to share and beer options from other breweries. Our waiter was super knowledgeable and a pleasure to speak with him about Foam, Burlington and good beer in general! We will definitely be back, as the overall experience was worthy of another visit. read more
