The VG has been a local treasure for the entire 47 years I've been in the Valley. And it gets better with every passing year. It is WAY more than just a convenience store, although it is that, as well They have the best beer selection around--an entire walk in cooler with a broad selection of beers from all over. Wowser! Their deli has great food either cooked to order or serve-yourself hot dishes like chili and Mac and Cheese. After hours for the deli, you can still get a nice set of selections, including my favorite--their deviled eggs. And pretty soon, the serve-yourself creemee machines will be up and running for the season. Did I mention their specials? Including the annual lobster boil? Oh, and they were the first gas station in the Valley to offer ethanol-free gas. Plus, they give back a percentage of gas sales to a local charity each month. The VG is truly a gem! Village Grocery is a great little convenience store in the heart of the Town of Waitsfield. They've got a great selection of packaged groceries, homemade soups and chili, and a full deli (albeit with limited operating hours). I snagged a medium-sized bowl of hearty chili for about $3 and it was a very generous portion. Considering I was up here for a ski weekend, I'd have probably paid about $7-$8 for that same bowl on the mountain. Staff were extremely friendly - all the more reason to shop small businesses and support the local community! read more

Visiting town and thought I'd stop by to support a local grocer. I politely asked if they had tonic and clearly interrupted the cashier on their phone. Super rude response of "it's over there". I asked for further guidance and they nastily shrugged and walked over to point to it. Must be having a bad day but being outright rude just isn't ok. read more

We were lucky enough to be in town for Andrew May Day. The owner drives 7 hours to buy lobsters to continue the tradition that Andrew started, an affordable lobster lunch. The Village Grocery is the premier gas station in all of Vermont and possibly the world. They have an amazing deli with particularly good breakfast. They have a wide variety of Vermont coffee options. There is a wine room. They carry many types of standard and craft beer. They have a fresh orange juice machine. In the summer they have self serve cremees. The owner is often present and ensuring the best possible experience. The staff know what they are doing and many have worked there for years. Oh my God. So how could something so simple, so basic bring somebody so much happiness and joy? Troy cooks up some doughnuts, some of eclectic nature. But when you time it right and they aren't sold out, he has these basic sugar coated jelly doughnuts he keeps warm in the cabinet. My physic gives an indication that my diet is not always broccoli, greens and tofu...so let's say I have some experience in certain food groups. Just had another one of his doughnuts today. Best place in waitsfield! Nice selection of pretty much everything from beer, to drinks to food. They also have s deli inside that makes fresh sandwiches etc. friendly staff and this is also a gas station. It's like your one stop spot for everything! read more

I have stopped here a million times for coffee, beer and other staples when in Waitsfield for ski trips at my ski club, whose lodge is local. But this past fall, our visit there took the cake! We arrived at the lodge and discovered that the entire supply of blankets had been sent to the cleaners. This is Vermont, people! Blankets are necessary! There weren't any stores nearby that were open, so we were thinking we'd make due with our jackets and hope for the best. We also thought some beer might help, so we stopped by the Village Grocery for supplies (they have a really good beer and wine selection, btw.) While mentioning our plight to one of the guys who works there, he was kind enough to call the owner. The owner actually went out of his way to drive miles away to his home and come back with blankets for us. I couldn't believe it. His over-the-top hospitality to out-of-towners blew me away. I still so grateful and will always remember this kind gesture. I learned that his father ran the store back in the day, so it is a family legacy, which is so cool in this day of corporate greed . More importantly, I also love this store!!! They have a great selection of groceries, including local Vermont maple syrup, a nice coffee selection, super cute deli (serving breakfast and lunch sandwiches etc. until 3pm, I think) and plenty of other good stuff too. If you're lucky and happen to be there on the right day, you can score some Heady Topper or Lawson's Finest Liquids, and the staff are always so genuine and friendly. Some great sandwiches, both subs and breakfast sandwiches, the BLT sub was nice and full of the three letters.. When I had the breakfast sandwich, that too was made to perfection. I would give this place five stars but the person behind the register always has his shirt unbuttoned and that dood has way to much chest hair sticking out like he is some kind of papi chulo in exile. I know the owner takes a lot of pride in making this a special place, but dood w chest hair, button up please? Really. read more

Awesome sandwich! Great general store with a solid beer and wine selection. Stopped in to get out of our awful room at Mad River Barn. Andrew the owner made us feel so uncomfortable that we had to get out for a while. I feel bad for the staffer he was yelling at....poor girl read more
