First time in one of these Market Basket stores and I loved it. I have no idea why, but I love visiting random grocery stores that I've never been to let alone heard of lol. Market Basket is one of those stores. Neverrrr even knew this place existed. New Hampshire is such an amazing state. This was my first time there as well (and I grew in upstate NY. So weird I had never been before) NH feels like one of Americas best kept secrets. Anyway, this store is massive! It's also massively busy. Couldn't believe how crowded it was. You think...."I'm in New Hampshire, there are like 5 people who live here" You legit never hear of anyone who is from here lol. Even growing up in NY, I can't remember ever meeting anyone from NH, lol. But yeah, plenty obviously live there and yeah kinda weird right to base that off of one visit to a grocery store? Haha. Anyway, store is massive. They have everything (except for Simply Apple Juice lol). Prices are great. NH is not nearly as expensive as most states in the northeast. AND the stores still use plastic bags! Which I love bc it's so ridiculous to get rid of them...especially when like 80% of what we buy all comes in plastic! And plastic bags! What's even weirder...in NY and other stores where those plastic bags are banned...grocery stores SELL. BUNDLES. OF. PLASTIC. GROCERY. BAGS!!! WITH....their store logos on it!!! And they sell the bundles for like $8-10 lol. So ridiculous! Just bring back the bags ffs lol So yeah, that made me happy to see here...even tho my weird love for visiting random grocery stores in random states...I always buy one of their reusable bags. I swear I'm like an old granny who wear big sweaters and is lonely...and finds fun in buying reusable bags from stores across the country hahahaha! The store is very well laid out. It's not hard to find anything...except, there's lots of walking bc the store is very large. Employees are so nice! Seemed like everyone in NH is nice. I look forward to the day I get to go back. Stopped in for a few staples. All the expected departments: deli, seafood, bakery, meats. But we had some trouble locating items like a specific brand of apple juice found in a different location. Nothing major. This is not a location we frequent. All the staff we interacted with were lovely. Jenny, our cashier, was very friendly and we had a nice chat with her while we checked out. Maybe....it's just the overwhelming nostalgia of being away from New England for so long. Or maybe it's just the fact that we have grown tired of previously buying our groceries from a place where you can also inexplicably buy and rotate your tires (*cough*Walmart*cough*). Regardless, as a long term New Englander/East Coaster, I will tell you that Market Basket is THE staple standard for legit grocery shopping. This may be difficult for anyone not indigenous to the area. But there is something very profound and robust about the food selection at this grocery store. Best of all, they accept Apple and Google pay. Which, if some of you haven't noticed by now, is an automatic gold star on my ratings list. Also, they sell a copious selection of alcohol. Now, that may seem trivial to some. But believe it or not, I've been to plenty of grocery stores that only sell your basic food and soft beverage options and nothing more. Probably the largest best Market Basket and i think with what they stock, provide and have they are probably one of the best stores in New Hampshire. The crowds here will also tell you that is the story as there isn't a time in the day when there aren't 100s of people here and you have to walk halfway through the parking lot to get in. I ordered two cold subs and a steak and cheese wrap from the Market Kitchen. The gentleman who made my order couldn't read English or my very neat handwriting. He had to keep asking the lady working with him what was written on the paper I gave him. He took his slow time making my order and cooked my steak and cheese wrap first. I asked for extra cheese, extra mustard and extra pickles in my wrap and maybe got the minimal normal portions of everything. The steak was soggy and was stone cold. The overall sandwich was pathetic and extremely unappetizing. The entire food service area was full of cross contaminated foods and sandwiches were being cut with the same knife without it being cleaned in between. I went to market basket and there was SO many people there I was close to hangin having an anxiety attack. THEN, I went to the aisle where the y have the Aloe water. A general request, PLEASE, PLEASE, train the baggers how to pack groceries. On more than one visit I have had to repack my groceries. 1. When a customer brings in bags, use as many as needed . Don't feel that you need to put everything in as few bags as possible. Distribute the weight. If you have a hard time lifting my bag to place in the carriage, how can I carry it into the house and up the stairs? 2. Place heavy items on the bottom, lighter, breakable items on top. This doesn't always happen. 3. Refrigerated items can be put in the same bag for ease of unpacking once home. Thank you for the chance to improve our shopping experience. read more

I have shopped at Market Basket for years and I have to say that I love this place. I have shopped at Hannaford and Whole Foods with my wife, and I can say that between Hannaford, and Market Basket I save about 30% shopping at Market Basket. When we shop at Whole Foods it's more expensive but if you want something that is out of stock at other stores Whole Foods has it. You might pay more but you can at least buy it, for example my wife can't do dairy, so she likes oat yogurt, and it isn't available anywhere but at Whole Foods has all you want. I always arrive at the open when few people are there and always check Best by Dates to make sure I get the freshest and within 1/2 hour my shopping experience is over, and I enjoy every minute of it. I save most of my receipts and match them to my wife's Hannaford and on a lot of items I save at least 30% read more

The experience is always the same, abject chaos, and extreme nostalgia. Everything is exactly where it belongs, and the teenage staff, unbothered by your presence, is actually a comfort. A manager kicked me and my friends out for no logical reason. We came in 10 minutes before close just to grab a quick bite to eat, go to the bathroom, and get out. Apparently one of my friends jokingly threw a paper towel at another friend in the bathroom right as the manager walked in. Any normal person would view that as playful and mostly harmless, but he had such a huge problem with it that he escorted us out. He was clearly either on a power trip or something was happening at home and he decided to take it out on us, I don't know. He gave us unnecessarily harsh attitude and insulted us by asking "how old are you guys? Like 13?" When we're clearly not. You'd think he'd be more concerned about the state of that disgusting bathroom. Bottom line, the manager turned a genuinely harmless little thing into a giant problem and kicked us out. If anything the worst thing we did was give him a nasty attitude, which he deserved, and was no worse than what he was doing to us. Miserable and bitter man. Shouldn't be a manager of anything. If I could give a negative 1,000,000 I would. While checking out yesterday the cash register malfunctioned because the screen was smashed. In hind sight I think Big Babs punched it. The young cashier was very nervous and flustered. The bagger Barbara was rude and verbally abusive to the kid. Because he was having trouble. When I told him no worries, it's not his fault. Big Babs said to me "if I were you I'd shut up!" I was stunned and asked the manager Joel standing at the next register. (he must've been scared of her she had to weigh at least 250lbs) he didn't even acknowledge me, the customer. The whole time the manager was trying get the machine working she continued to threaten me. On the 3rd threat he did finally touch her shoulder. was all he did to "rectify" the situation. She didn't care that her boss was there and kept up the threats. Please beware folks, if you somehow piss her off she'll jump you. I'm pretty much patient and never usually complain about anything. i had got to the checkout and started putting my groceries on the belt i asked the cashier if the young man bagging could go get a couple heads of lettuce. I walk with a cane do to two bum knees. Today wasn't a good day to get pizza at the deli because of a careless employee and Thier personal judgement of me or the way I was dressed I will never know but the facts are true and the pizza is undercooked with 4 inches of crust and cold tomato suace. Very dull experience waiting in line twice to pay because the worker couldn't print my tag or help me in any way other than bare minimum at best. Triple the time I was told waiting in the store with my groceries lost because of horrid customer service. I was then out of patience so I approached the place I thought I would find relief....customer service desk and that's when my experience took another putrid plunge into this, the women interrupting my voice with nothing she could do. So I realized I was going to have to take initiative for my own behalf and asked for the store manager. 10 minutes later I become encountured by a giant with a tie named Dan and his 15 years experience name tag. Dan wouldn't let me explain and just wanted to talk to the deli person. My pizza was ready by then and I was standing in line again to pay but still not happy or satisfied or anything but mistreated. So I reapproached Dan and his security team to present my problem again wich was the cook time givin to me was tripled and no help with paying ahead via printing out the tag to save me a second wait in line. And the final product undercooked and not what I paid for at all. I was then escorted out of the store with Dan yelling and pointing out side "get your pizza and go" I feel like I was in some other place or dreaming it up. Not the same store. This place is awful. First off, on the 5th of the month, forget even trying to get near the front door or you'll be stuck in lines for an hour or more. Anytime of the day the deli is terrible. I've tried different hours and I'm always stuck at the deli line for at least 15 minutes before they call my number. Most recently I went to get three items from the deli as well as three grocery items off the shelves. By the time I took my deli number I had more than enough time to go get all my shopping done, come back and still wait 10 minutes to be called. By the time I checked out of the store, what started with me needing 6 items for my weeks worth of lunch ended up costing me 50 minutes. More staff, more deli workers, more cashiers. They need a lot of help at this store. read more

I love Market Basket. They are forever "DeMoulas" to me, by the way. I worked at store #4 1988-1992. Back on point, this store has an awesome array of grocery options. I find that the items I buy cost less here than Hannaford (where I shopped before this store opened). Only four stars because of location, and how many times I get beggars asking for money on my way in and out. It's not Market Basket's "fault" of course, but it does impact the experience. Otherwise, I love it. For those that like unhealthy but tasty food: I am a bit of a junk food person, so the fact that there are fresh baked goods on tables all over the place makes me happy. They also have a ton of unhealthy frozen food things - i.e. chicken tenders, cheese sticks, poppers, that sort of thing, all really low price yet I enjoy them For those that are healthier or have allergies: They have increased the number of items they carry that are gluten free - bonus. Drawback on that though: they are not in a separate section. You have to find the gluten free items from among the regular items. That can take a lot of time, which is why most places give a separate section. Overall? Favorite grocery store in Manchester even with the people asking for money. That there always seems to be a cop standing inside the door makes me feel... better, I guess. Oh, and all summer when I was waiting the quick 20 minutes for my $3.99/lb. lobster to cook, I'd enjoy a fresh coffee and slice of excellent pizza in their huge cafe with free wifi. Check 'em out. Every time I ask him something it's always "what ever is there it's all we have" and walks away. NO customer service skills, NO thank you, NO have a nice day. It always seems like your bothering him. My dining experience overall has been pretty good here. I particularly love their sushi, and their burgers. The meat loaf, corn and Mack and cheese I am not in love with,but that is my preference. Service is average, which is what they are losing one star for. ATD you are my CEO. I was a fan of this grocery chain before the 2014 protests but now I'm a major fan! Market Basket is a no thrills grocery chain. They don't have membership cards, no major giveaways, they don't even have an official website. It's people serving people. Quality products targeted for families on a budget that work hard to put food on the table. Shopping here has saved me hundreds over the years compared to other chains. The prices are low and the quality is the same. Complaints? Well, the target demographic of Market Basket is poorer people. So you see this reflected at the downtown Manchester location. Low income families who many not be as "easy on the eye" as you'd like. But, that's life. Don't blame Market Basket for targeting the 99% because if you're reading this review, you're probably one of them. read more

Well made me sick and looked at the date and bought about 5 days after!!!! Went to get my money back and they asked if there was a receipt well I don't keep grocery receipts usually throw out.
