My husband and I went to the Market Basket in Nederland, to find halls cough drops in the roll strawberry, we have never been to this store before. No one spoke to us being a black couple, the y looked as us like why are you here. I go to the deli counter they see me standing there and they never came to see what I wanted. We found the cough drops on our own. No help We put them on the counter they waited until we moved our hands. To be so young and prejudice is sad. We won't ever go to that store again. read more

If you're in the Market for a Basket case, I have several exs in mind. Easily one of the worst grocery stores we ever used - it's not fresh and it's extremely expensive and service wasn't very nice either. So not a very good grocery store at all for the Port Arthur area. It's expensive and it's missing various things that I would want. For this reason I rarely come to this Market Basket when I'm in town, but they did have a couple things that we needed when we needed them, so we were grateful about that at least. read more

Although the carry some product unique and a meat market with a butcher, cudos. Beware of their rotisserie chickens. I got one, how old is questionable. Dry and old. Obliviously they're keeping them from day to day. No reduction in price so you can't tell. The prices is a glorified 7-11. Produce is the leftover from what the other stores rejected. Just about to go bad. Buy only wht you need immediately. Go to a real grocery for an honest price. They know how bad it is, they don't even answer the phone when called. Market Basket reminds me of the stores I went to when I was younger. While this location is older than many of the modern fancy stores that seem to be the rage today it is well laid out. The store carries all of your traditional grocery items. My favorite part of the store is that the bakery sells fresh kolaches. The staff are all very friendly which seems to be the trend in South East Texas. On weekends local sports teams and/or church groups have "link sales" in the parking lot. For the uninitiated, a link sale is basically a bbq sale. I love pulling up at a grocery store when there is a large smoker in the parking lot emitting the savory smell of Texas BBQ. If you're in Nederland, this is a good place to make your groceries. read more

This Market Basket is clean and has a good layout, to where it is fairly easy to find what you need speedily. And someone here has good taste in music. I've heard Jack Johnson, Ben Folds and even the Beastie Boys playing on the P.A. system. This store also smokes it's own sausage and boudin, if you're into that. There is no seafood counter and the bakery is small with few offerings. But for a 'neighborhood' grocery, it has what you need. A little pricey. read more

Prices are higher than other stores but I can deal with that if there's more of a focus on customer service than a Walmart type. Usually the staff is fairly helpful if not knowledgeable of where things are or if they have certain items. Understandable and forgivable because most are high school kids who are very polite and respectful. Management seems to be stand offish and if they have to check someone out when it gets busy they seem put out. It's your job, so deal with it. They get a star off for selection reasons because what type of store carries 30 cans of canned snails but not diet cream soda? Another star off for high prices and another star off for poor management. They genuinely are the most unhelpful management I've experienced in the Nederland area. They get to keep 2 stars for cleanliness and for the rest of the staff being polite and courteous. I honestly only come here because it's close to my house. read more
