No fuss. Toasted Bagel with cream cheese
    Karen Y.

Great spot for breakfast! I come often for a delicious bagel, no fuss - toasted (sesame, plain, everything - my go to) with cream cheese. Once in a while, baconeggandcheese (yes, it's one word). They have a variety of offerings, oatmeal, parfait, hot food.... The decor is pretty much a deli with some seatings. My company also gets catering from here and sandwiches are solid. Fresh fruits are good and their mini muffins, danish and bagels are awesome. Staff are friendly and very nice people. Convenient for anyone walking from Penn to 5th avenue. So be sure to stop by!

Quick service and lots of different offerings! This was a very good place for a bagel!

French Toast ⋅ Midtown - Manhattan, New York

Cafeteria style eatery with healthy and fresh food options. After a tiring red-eye flight from LAX to JFK and an additional hour of traveling just to get into Manhattan, I needed a quick and fulfilling breakfast. Market Crates was a short walk from the hotel I was staying at. They are in front of the Empire State Building, so I'm sure a lot of office workers come here for lunch. Inside there are different stations you can line up or walk up to order. They have customizable salads, refrigerated snacks/drinks to-go, soups, sandwiches, hot breakfast items, quinoa bowls, and more. You pay at the registers near the entrance, which is also the pastry section. Don't forget to stop by the utensil station by the door. The French Toast was slightly crisp with a spongy center. Some might prefer a firmer, drier consistency all around but I didn't mind. A couple pieces could've been browned a little longer, but it's better than getting burnt toast. It had just the right amount of sweetness thanks to the powdered sugar. I liked the blueberries, which were juicy and ripe. Conversely, the strawberries had a bitter aftertaste. Service was pleasant, with some minor communication issues. I don't know if the person helping me was hard of hearing, but I had to repeat myself a couple times. And apparently they thought I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs, which was simply removed at checkout when I told the cashier I just got the french toast. A good amount of their breakfast menu is less than $10, which is very economical!

East peasy walk in to get a quick, healthy lunch option. Create your own quinoa or salad bowls with a variety of beverage options (low sugar iced teas and fruit drinks) and grab and go. Places to sit and eat inside or outside on a warm summer day .

Staff is super helpful and the vibe is nice and chill.

Coming out of the Empire State Building and we were starving and just needed something quick, a guy "Omar" "Omege" said it was good and fresh, right around the corner, we ordered an apple turnover & lemon bar and a double espresso, they are big and very delicious! Thick & heavy in a way!!

Wild Cajun Salmon Market Plate w/ Brown Rice, Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Zucchini ($14.14 normally but only $8.14 through Allset)
    Heidi M.

Had a $4 credit on the Allset app and decided to use it on lunch yesterday, while I was running a quick errand in the Herald Sq area. I saw that Market Crates was offering an additional $2 off my order ($6 off total) so I had to do it! The better the deal, the more likely I will give your business a try haha So I had placed my order for a 1:45pm pickup through the app: a Wild Cajun Salmon Plate w/ brown rice (base), Roasted Broccoli (1st side) and a Cucumber, Avocado & Tomato Salad (2nd side). With the discount, the total came out to be $8.14 -- a steal for this area! Since I arrived about 5-10 min early, I wasn't surprised to see that my order wasn't ready yet. But since I was slightly in a rush, I asked one of the cashiers about it. She kindly asked what I ordered, to which I responded with "a salmon plate." She went over to the back to help grab it for me, and she returned with it almost immediately. She reminded me to grab a fork, napkins and was very sweet. Unfortunately, it wasn't until I returned to my office to eat where I noticed that the sides were wrong! I had gotten a sweet potato and grilled zucchini/squash instead of my broccoli and salad. Not sure if they had rushed to assemble it for me and messed it up then, or if I had gotten someone else's order instead... Not TOO big of a deal since they got the salmon + rice right, and because the food was just downright amazing. So fresh and perfectly cooked. It tasted like such a homey meal. Reminded me of Dig Inn. I didn't want to stuff myself into a food coma so I saved half of it for today - it's definitely enough for 2 meals (lunches) if you're trying to portion control. Still would've preferred the sides I had ordered of course, but not mad about the mix up. Would definitely return for lunch if I'm in the area!

I love the create your own quinoa bowls here! There's so many good options and the way they prepare it with the quinoa and kale is super tasty. A perfect work day lunch.

    Sausage egg and cheese wrap
    Alison K.

This is many people's go to spot for coffee, breakfast and lunch who work in the area. Food is overall pretty healthy (but still tasty). They do have pastries so they're probably the least healthy thing here. My breakfast of choice is sausage egg and cheese on a wrap. I think the sausage is turkey, not pork. They don't have regular bacon, only turkey bacon (I hate turkey bacon!). The wrap looks like whole wheat. They have fresh squeezed juice and a lot of health food bottled drinks. For lunch, they have a variety of hot foods where you can mix and match with a grain, protein and 2 sides. I like the salmon, mac and cheese, and brussel sprouts. They also have soups and sandwiches. I love their matzo ball soup - nice rich flavor and full of dill. This is my go to for when I'm under the weather. Overall the employees are friendly and service is fast.

I went simple. Ordered cinnamon raisin with cream cheese. It was fresh, perfectly toasted with just the right amount of cheese.

It feels more like a compact gourmet market than a typical station food court, with fresh produce, breads, pastries, cheese, seafood, prepared foods, chocolates, teas and specialty groceries all arranged along one long passage. My best tip is to walk through the entire market before buying anything because each counter has something different. Most merchants also have their own register, so leave extra time when purchasing from several places. The passage can become crowded during the weekday commuter rush, and browsing is much easier between the morning and evening peaks. The Lexington Avenue entrance near 43rd Street is particularly convenient. Prices are higher than at an ordinary supermarket, but the location, presentation and quality make it worthwhile, especially for a train snack, hotel-room food or a small New York gift. I paired some fresh fruit from the market with a PROTABAR I had brought along. The unusual combination of egg whites, dates, hazelnuts and cocoa butter, with 15 grams of protein and no added sugar, made me curious enough to look more closely at the brand. Allow around 20 to 30 minutes to explore properly. Clean, colorful, convenient and much more interesting than grabbing the first snack you see near the platforms.

This time around, I stopped for cheese and picked up two blocks for a fun night in including SwissRaqulet, which looks fantastic. Another stop for some turmeric at the spice store. Then over to the bakery for a loaf of rye with sunflower seed and peasant style sourdough. Well, they're a snuck in a pan su chocolate for the train ride home. Can't forget my daughter who took care of things in my absence so a quick stop to the candy shop for pecan clusters, then a race to the finish on Metro North Hudson line.
