This little gem of a bakery, founded by Jim Lahey (yes, the genius behind the famous No-Knead Bread method), has quickly become my weekend ritual spot. My go-to order? The Americano and a donut -- fluffy with just a hint of lemon, sweet enough to satisfy but never over the top. Pure perfection with coffee. Today I branched out and added the fruit danish, topped with thinly sliced plum. The laminated dough was everything you want it to be: crisp and golden on the outside, tender and airy inside. The tart plum against the buttery pastry made such a perfect sweet-tart balance I was already plotting my next visit halfway through. And speaking of next time... Have loved Sullivan for decades at this point. Sometimes it's just the smell late at night when I'm walking my dog and pass by, but most of the time it's their bombolone and their pizzas. They have a cheese less potato pizza that is amazing. Uovo Brioche - This was my favorite item that I got, as the brioche was so fluffy and even had a bit of a lemon flavor for a slight unique sweetness. There was also pancetta inside and egg, which was cooked in a very unique and delicious way where the egg was sort of scrambled but also very soft. Just a delicious breakfast sandwich. Egg and Avocado - This sandwich came on a long roll with (you guessed it) egg and avocado inside. This was also good and they added some chili flakes for a bit of a kick La Mortadella - This ham, arugula, and mozzarella sandwich was more of an Italian classic and solid quality, although the bread was a tad on the tougher side Jam Bomboloni - A classic Italian dessert, how could it not be tasty? The bread was super fluffy with some tasty and sweet fruit jam in the middle All 4 of these items came out to around $35, so it was sort of what you would expect from a quality Italian bakery like this. The place itself is decently sized with an environment that mixes some traditional bakery vibes with a sort of rustic feel, with the exposed pipes along the ceiling. There is a decent amount of seating and it wasn't particularly busy when I went on a weekend for brunch. The staff are average friendliness. As a Californian, coming to NYC is always a special treat, with the seasons, Broadway, hustle and bustle, and so many good eats. My sister and I stumbled upon Sullivan Street Bakery on our way to the Anne Frank Exhibition later in the day, and the avocado and egg sandwich and the mortadella with pistachio spread sandwich really fortified me for one of the most touching and poignant exhibits in my life (I'm 63). The bread was so moist and soft for the avo egg sandwich and very textured, with a nice crisp, for the mortadella sandwich. Beautiful coffee latte and really pleasant servers. One of my best Big Apple bites, up there with Broad Nosh Bagels and Takumi Tacos in the Chelsea Market, yum. Prices did not give us sticker shock, coming from the SF Bay Area. This is a review for the Hell's Kitchen location, 533 W 47th St, New York, NY. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion about the various locations for this business on Yelp. As a big fan of Jim Lahey and his no-knead bread recipe in "My Bread," I was pretty excited to finally visit Sullivan Street Bakery. I wasn't disappointed. For breakfast, we had the two of the breakfast sandwiches, mine a baguette with egg salad/avocado combination that was truly excellent. Accompanied with their whole milk latte, it doesn't get better. Window shopping the items on display under the counter was also a joy. Cranky staff that others on Yelp complain about? No where to be found. Staff were attentive and polite. Note that table space at this location is somewhat limited. Unfortunately, some locals seem to camp out on the Wifi, making it even more difficult to find an empty seat. Plus the very United Statesian practice of not sharing tables. But there was regular turn-over for the tables, so there wasn't much inconvenience. read more

The name is a bit deceptive because it's on West 47th Street. But it is still a bakery and a very good one at that. Everything I tried was delicious and now I kinda wish I had ordered more. Uovo Brioche: Much fancier than the common bodega breakfast sandwiches I've been eating. A very delicate fluffy brioche with a thin crispy round of pancetta, which is much nicer than regular old bacon. The egg seemed like a scramble with some hardboiled white pieces mixed in for texture. Just a few simple ingredients, but so delicious. Patate Pizza: More like focaccia than a pizza, but still yummy. The extremely thin slices of potatoes browned and crisped up like homemade potato chips, but still had a softness on the section touching the dough. The rosemary needles gave it a subtle aroma. Really delicious, I totally devoured this one. Jam Bomboloni: Like a doughnut, albeit an artisanal one. Not huge, but filled with tons of delicious berry jam. Like seriously this is the ratio of doughnut-to-filling that more more places should embrace. read more

Came here for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon, plenty of open seats and essentially no wait to order. Given the location I would imagine they don't get busy too often I was drawn to this spot for their Roman pizza, so we tried a couple different slices. I had the cauliflower and potato slices, along with a quiche type dish (couldn't find the name on their website) The Roman pizza slices were all solid, they all had little or no cheese and were on the lighter side. In each instance the bread quality and toppings were the star. The potato one was surprisingly our least liked of the bunch, that seems to be their staple and it wasn't really our jam. Personally I thought the quiche was the best part of the experience. I believe the adds ins were egg, feta, tomatoes and basil. The crust quality was great and each slice was super thick and stuffed with the ingredients. Can't recommend this one enough. Overall I think this is a solid spot if you're in the area. I don't think this is the best representation of Roman pizza, but it's a harder to come by style so I think this is still worth trying if you've never had and don't have an easier to reach alternative read more

There's so many bread options and we were super excited. We got the whole loaf sourdough, tomato bread, mushroom bread, olive oil cake, and chocolate chip cookie. The sourdough has a nice crust and is soft in the middle. It was warm when we got it and our server told us that they can only slice it in 1inch slices because the bread is still warm otherwise it'll crumble apart while being sliced. It was nice of them to recommend that! The tomato bread with the roasted tomatoes was delicious! It's perfectly seasoned and the roasted tomatoes were so sweet. The mushroom bread was alright but definitely tasted better once we warmed it up at home. The olive oil cake was light with a strong orangey citrus flavor and wasn't too sweet. The chocolate chip cookie is great! It's big and crispy on the edges but soft in the middle. It does have salt on the top and can get a bit salty.
