What a lovely surpise! It is inconspicuously tucked away in midtown this market packs alot of product in a small space for Manhattan. You can find everything you need from ready made food, bentos, snacks, ice cream, produce, imported goods, bascially everything. It is tight to manuver between the isles, but it adds to the charm of how each inch offers something different. And if you hop over to the other side of the market you will find a very spacious food hall with additional seating upstairs. Hot soba, curry katsu, desserts and specialty drinks await, or grab a quick onigiri for your city adventures. I'm so excited this staple is here to provide so many good anytime you want. Hurrah!

Pros: - staff are friendly and nice - onigiri are made to go but there are premade ones, I think their onigiri are so delicious - haven't had much of their food but I like the kitsune udon - there's a decent amount of seating upstairs, kinda feels like an empty cafe depending on when you go Cons: Comments: - went on a Sunday at around 5PM, it wasn't busy, seating was about half full but people were on their way out

Fire, authentic Japanese mart with prepared foods Would not get matcha here even though their variety is pretty expansive bc it is expensive but everything else is good especially snacks

It's been a while since I last wrote a review and I've been back many times--given a few other smaller Japanese groceries in Manhattan have shuttered during or after covid, (including Sunrise Mart's East Village location) I'm appreciative of this location's existence and their selection of affordable groceries and prepared food for eat-in or take out. The right entrance is for the prepped foods section--they have a selection of made-to-order items like ramen and udon noodles soups, bento boxes with a variety of proteins, side dishes, poke, sushi and savory snacks. Chilled sides and drinks, and a small bakery counter round out the food options. Towards the back there are stairs on the left hand side that lead up to a small upper seating area. The left entrance is to the grocery section of the store, they carry everything you need to make and enjoy a Japanese meal, from fresh produce, seafood and meats, refrigerated ingredients, sides, desserts, dried and canned foods, snacks, seasonings and condiments, some beauty and and household items too.

Sunrise Mart has a great selection of Japanese snacks, pantry staples, drinks, and quick bites--super convenient if you're in the area and craving something Asian without hitting a full restaurant. I grabbed the katsu Japanese curry, and it hit the spot--savory, comforting, and satisfying for a ready-made meal. Prices are fair in the Manhattan area, and the store is well-organized despite being a bit compact. Definitely worth stopping by if you're looking to stock up on Asian essentials or grab a quick bite on the go!

We got two custom bento for take out. Delicious content and very large portions. One had stewed beef, breaded salmon plus lots of vegetables. The other one had grilled eels, breaded white fish and stuffed tofu.

Great tasty authentic affordable Japanese food option in midtown, truly a contradiction in many sense. Been here many times. They have prepared box foods, onigiri (triangles of nori covered stuffed rice/japanese kimbop), dons, curry, pasta, tempura, sushi/sashimi, ramen udon oden for prices far below what other restaurants charge. It's a functional pickup and go place not high end dining. When eating in, would recommend katsu curry rice, ramen udon dons and pasta. Upstairs seating area, has bathroom and microwave to heat up your food. On pleasant days, take you Japanese food and go on Bryant park to dine al fresco. Highly recommend for locals and visitors.

A small market to the side, and then a food space where you get udon, soba, rice balls, sushi, etc. Prices are ok; the soba was salty, and the karaage was cold (need to warm up in the microwave, but then not as good as fresh / hot crunch). Seating upstairs and a few downstairs. Pay for food first, then pick up from the grill/ordering area.

It was my first time at this market and they had a very nice selection of produce, drinks, snacks and japanese ingredients, so its a perfect place to go to if you need something specific. They also had this little food court that was suuper good! Their mentaiko onigiri was my favorite.

I work in the area and a coworker recommended this spot to me. They told me the onigiri was good. I got 2 onigiris one was spicy salmon and the other was spicy tuna. I came in the morning time around 10am. It was pretty chill I was the only person dining in at that time. I was able to read my book in peace. These onigiri were pretty good. They were hot and fresh when I grabbed them. The shape was perfect. These may be some of the best onigiri I've had in New York so far. I usually get mines in soho but those spots don't compare. You could taste the freshness of the salmon and tuna. I was able to get a good blend of fish with rice in each bite. Also, I could taste the spices. I enjoyed it and would definitely come back.

i got the spicy tuna onigiri & okaka onigiri, but they had so many others i wanted to try! i wish the okaka came with more bonito flakes, but it was yummy! the spicy tuna tasted a lot different (in a good way) compared to other spicy tuna onigiris i've had! it was almost like cooked tuna? or canned? but very fresh & they make it right in front of u -- served warm !! so delicious they have PLENTY of other fresh japanese dishes to choose from that looked amazing -- from curry to donburi to katsu to handrolls. they have a bathroom that u can use after purchasing something (code on receipt), which is located in their relatively small upstairs seating area. i will be back 100% to try some curry, donburi, & more onigir! the service was also wonderful, staff was super kind.

This place comprises of, an Asian supermarket and hot & cold food items neighboring each other. People get confused as I did when I first went into both marts to discover two different places with the same name that's not connected by an interior hallway, but you need to go outside to get to the other side. Anyway, I wanted to get a hot food item and not something already prepared in the fridge section. I ordered the chicken udon at the register, which confused me at first as I didn't know one had to do that until I saw signs. The chicken isn't fried, which is great, and they give you a lot for a small bowl. There are so many types of bowls you can order. If you want to eat at the mart, there's indoor and outdoor seating. They don't give you free tap water, but instead, there's an abundance of utensils & napkins one can grab. Also, a microwave to use for your room temperature or cold items.

Why have I not come here earlier?! It's a great spot for a quick lunch. There's some seating inside but it's really a grab and go spot. They have a ton of different Japanese foods, all at great prices! You can order off their menu which has udon, curry, and more. But they're also constantly pumping out bento boxes and bringing out hot foods. The prices are really reasonable for Japanese food in the city and it's delicious. I came to grab a bento box during lunch and was overwhelmed by the amount of different items to choose from. There was a line but it moved quick and the staff is also nice! They also have a ton of different onigiri, lots of different flavors/fillings to choose from. Those are delicious and a great snack! I'd definitely be coming back, really fulfills my Japanese food cravings. Their bento boxes have a variety of different things in it too which is good for someone like me who loves to have a little of everything. They also have lots of different proteins and some bowls with a mix of stuff.
