How to best describe Plantega? Plantega is a vegan menu inside H-Yard Gourmet Deli. I had bookmarked and had unknowingly passed this place and never realized until I intentionally looked for it during a lunch break. So look for the H-Yard sign and be confident you are in the right place. They have a whole vegan menu with deli favs such as bacon egg and cheese, chopped cheese, and chicken parm. It's all vegan, no sub! I asked three times, because whaaa...?! Don't do this. They get annoyed. Believe it the first time. Being at work, I chose the less messy fried chicken sandwich. It was okay. Needed more cheese and sauce. Respect be damned, next time I'm getting that chopped cheese. read more

Beware that this place serves as a "Virtual Restaurant" (look at my pics). On Uber Eats, I searched "vegan" and "Mr. Big Vegan Burgers" popped up. The images looked good. I didn't research. The food not only looked nothing like what's pictured on their Uber Eats page (where it's NOT listed as a virtual restaurant - I had to do research afterward), it arrived cold, the onion rings were soggy and the 'vegan' burger with vegan cheese? The patty tasted like beef and there wasn't any vegan cheese. No cheese at all. Fortunately I was refunded for the entire order. Even with my knowledge of ghost kitchens, I let my hunger override logic. Suggestions: Order from places you know are reputable. Look up the name on Yelp. This didn't show up on Yelp. I had to search the address on Google maps and look through reviews to discover that this deli was posing as a vegan burger place. And maybe the patty was vegan but cooked on a grill with beef. Sucks! I have tried this Deli numerous times and it has always been a disaster, even in person. The employees have an attitude two times they literally told me what do you wanted just like how can I help you which is irrelevant but it's just the whole demeanour of the establishment. The price always changes. When there's not a price they charge whatever they would like. Two days I was charged different prices for the same item. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. H-Yard doesn't make the best food but it's not terrible either. But they're convenient and they're...fine. They WERE fine. One of the issues with H-Yard is their pricing. You could order a BEC today for $4 and tomorrow it'll be $4.50 and the next day it'll be $4 again. So to bypass this issue, I order on Grubhub for store pickup where prices are consistent. Or so I thought. I ordered a sandwich for $9, paid for it and picked up. Cashier tells me it's $1 more now, "Grubhub has wrong price." Then proceeds to charge me an extra $1 without my approval after I left the store. How is that ethical? It's not my fault H-Yard neglected to update their prices on Grubhub. It's not about the $1, it's the principle. Needless to say, I got my refund from GH but I shouldn't have to go through that. Update your GH menu and charge me the $1 next time. So now they will get ZERO dollars from me, a customer who's been buying food from them since their inception. Add this to the dirty looks they give me each time I pick up my GH order and it's a homerun for disaster. Yes, I know ordering from GH takes money out of their pocket...but if they only got their act together in the first place then I wouldn't have to find the GH workaround. H-Yard, I hope you read this and learn or you will go out of business like so many other failed delis in the area throughout the years. I work around the corner from the deli and would highly recommend them. They are clean, nice to speak to, you can get in and out quickly. Most importantly the food is very good and the prices are reasonable. You can eat healthy and not go broke! They have a great selection of hot and cold food and everything is fresh. I am so glad they opened up a year or so ago because I would not recommend B & W Deli on the corner of west 34 street and 9 ave which is only a block away. First tried this place for the fresh juice bar. I had a phenomenal experience and decided it was worth re-visiting. This place is conveniently close to my gym so picking up a fresh juice is ideal after a workout. Have gone back a few times and tried a few non-perishable items as well as sandwiches and wraps. Their food is fresh and, despite the portion appearing on the small size, quite filling. Only complaints thus far being that some items are slightly higher in price, even for the area; and that it's hard for me to see the full prep area to note if gloves are being properly used and changed. It's nice that they are open 24 hours and the service has always been very friendly and consistent. read more

As a convenience store it's great you get what you need and get out. The prices for everything in there are a little high but that's to be expected. The food you can from here is edible but in no way good. The chef is also a prick who won't listen to what you've ordered and will give you an attitude. 2-stars means "meh" which is accurately reflects the price & food quality. Pros are location, inventory variety, cleanliness, quality/freshness, and in-store presentation. Cons are receipe and value. The store has so many sections which in its brand new architecture is a very enjoyable and confidence-inspiring (who thought one could ever say that about a NYC bodega/deli)? First impressions are: wow, so bright. The sign out front, the interior lights (all LED, of course), the accent lighting, the behind-the-counter zone, the fridge compartments, everything's really brightly lit. Whether marketing ploy or psychological operations or just because they want to see better, it's a pretty powerful impression. The front has the smoothies section with a dedicated fridge where the fresh (or at least, hopefully so) ingredients are brightly portrayed. Next is the frozen ice cream section where full price Haagen-Dazs, Nestle, and I think 2+ other brand's ice creams are. Then a long long fridge zone of cold drinks and beers. Cleverly in cabinetry above the whole store's periphery and overhead areas are household goods, full price above even those of CVS, but super handy for locals especially as those tall residential towers rise nearby or of office worker bees-to-be in Hudson Yards. The ordering counter has areas for breakfast goods, sandwiches/paninis, and then of course the cashier area where Samsung Pay stickers are frequented and the device is chip-reading, no credit card minimum sign in sight. The gentlemen staff were very professional, quick, and friendly. I ordered the florentine omlette (says $5.99 but was charged $6.99, I should've disputed, I should) last Friday 4p. Its first visual impression a very thin small portion of a limp omlette which is while expected in this section. It surely didn't live up to the place's name "Gourmet" or its tagline of "primo [premium] deli". Fine, so I then I took a bite. It was watery inside so much as to cause a bit of a ick factor which came 4s later when I tasted the variable but overall very salty taste. I couldn't tell if it was mixed unevenly into the egg blend (which I attest were real eggs) or put on afterwards, but way too salty, so much so that I sadly had to give up the latter half, it was giving me a salt headache despite guzzling water. Big points however as they didn't skimp on the feta cheese or the spinach despite the thin profile. Let's see when I come back here to give them another chance, but the value's a big persuasion to seek something ... else. These are my true thoughts of this new business! read more

It's been a good ride H-Yard but it's time to part ways. Ever since you've opened, my colleagues and I bought breakfast, lunch, and in many cases even dinner there. Each time I order food, I put $1 in the tip jar because of the fast and friendly service. But today I ordered a breakfast sandwich around 11 (not knowing there is an extra $1 charge for ordering breakfast after 11a...which is really stupid by the way). I was surprised my small coffee and breakfast wrap cost $9 and I asked "did you guys raise your price?" and I was told "no, it's after 11am. You usually come before 11am". So you guys know my face, know I come often, and must also know I take care of the tip jar, and I'm trying to pay at 11:03am and you're still going to charge me the extra dollar huh? Enjoy that dollar because I will no longer give you my business. You've just succumbed to the level of the other deli Best of the West. It's back to Sugar Deli for me. It's just principle. Super convenient spot for to go food! I come here often for lunch, the sandwiches are a GREAT deal, I usually get a turkey lettuce tomato with cheese on a roll which you make a sort of "combo" with a bag of chips, and a soda, and it comes out to around $7. Especially in this area where people hike up the prices because of the proximity to MSG/Penn, great spot to grab a fresh sandwich meal for a reasonable amount! I will say that all I've had is their sandwiches, I noticed that their salads are priced by how many toppings you get so if you're a salad person who loves a ton of stuff on their salad maybe stick to sweetgreen? I don't usually eat at delis, but I decided to try this one out because of the vegan options. Let me tell you that it is NOT worth it. The customer service was mostly terrible except for one young girl and a young guy which were cashiers. EVERY single time I went to that deli I got the exact same order but for whatever reason the price goes up and down it is almost like they are making up prices as they go along. No joke I probably went there about 7 times and got the same order each time the price was different ranging from $12-$22. The lady at the desk claims it's because I get extra vegan bacon, but I ALWAYS get that, and the price changes every time. I can't understand that and certainly not $22 for one mediocre sandwich and a drink. This was my last straw when they charged me $22 for the EXACT same order I've been getting which is one drink and a vegan BLT. Absolutely terrible this place will never be seeing my face again and i wish i could take back all the money i spent there. read more

My friend and I came here every day for breakfast during our stay in New York City. The staff was amazing, they really were such nice people so early in the morning. In addition the breakfast options were plentiful, and reasonably priced. I kept getting just a basic bagel with cream cheese, and my friend had a sausage, egg and cheese on a bagel. Food isn't good, too expensive, and staff don't know the menu well. I have been twice. The first time, I asked for a meatless panini, and the workers were confused about what that was. They finally figured it out and gave me one. The paninis are pre-made and sitting there. They barely warmed it up, and it didn't taste that fresh. I came in again to give them another try recently. I bought a vegetarian wrap and the peanut butter nana smoothie. The vegetarian wrap was gross and the ingredients were different than advertised. IRS should check this place out. Came here twice in one day due to the convenience near our hotel. They do not provide itemized receipts. In the morning we were over charged, the clerk appeared flustered when we asked what the extra charges were. Then came again late at night, were overcharged by at least $5 again. When we asked for the receipt, the clerk refused to print one. They got on the phone with their manager, and started making up excuses for why they couldn't show us what the charges were. They started making up prices and tax rates for items on the menu. Even his fantasy pricing came up short. At first he said he couldn't open the register to refund us. This is my new 5 star deli for workday lunch. They are consistent and the service is fast and friendly. They remember their regulars. The deli sandwiches are solid. The meatball and chicken parm subs are the best from an area deli, no contest. Good quality with excellent bread/meat/sauce/cheese ratio. I've been told the cheesesteak is also good but have yet to try it. They just added doritos to their chips which if you read my other post is a huge factor for me.
