SO very upset, placed an order this morning at 8 for my mothers birthday, its already 11:30am and the order JUST left for delivery, and the only reason I have that information is because I had to contact customer service manager and provided that information. I didn't pay $100 on flowers to be delivered at the time your store felt the need to. Also, once you place the order, be ready to not hear an update on the order until it is delivered. 1 When Marketstreet started their delivery service it was great. My last 3 home deliveries however have included lemons that were completely covered in mold, Brie that was so spoiled it stunk so bad I literally gagged, and rotten avocados. I have also ordered irish coffee cream 3 times and not received it. However, I have been charged for all of the items mentioned. Everytime I have called this store and asked to speak to someone in charge I have been placed on hold only to later be told no one with any authority is available except between 8-5 M-F. Sugar is added to green beans in their deli. I got some in the hot food line and some in a container to take home. I knew the green beans tasted sweet so I read the package I took home and found it. Had to trash trash them so waste of my money. Sugar really shouldn't be added to something you don't expect to have sugar. Health risk for some people. Also the plate I got from the hot food line was barely warm if that... also a health risk. Price at Market Street is ok except when you need to throw it away. During hard times like funerals buying flowers is not an easy thing to do. The last thing you want to have happen is have the flower shop gouge you. I searched online several flower shops in the area and they all seemed pretty high priced for what you got. The funeral director told me about Market Street and said they get a lot of flowers from there and they are always very nice so I called. I am so glad I did. The saleswoman was so sweet. I needed something but didn't really know exactly what and told her to make it BIG and beautiful and above all "Classy" because my best friends mom was just that. A classy woman! She even helped me with the card. I started it and she helped me make it absolutely perfect. I am so grateful for her on that day when it was so hard. She made it a special occasion during a very hard time. My friend sent me a thank you that said it took up the whole of one wall and was "BREATHTAKING". I am sure from looking at photos online that Market Street did this for 10%-20% what other florists in the area would have charged me. Not only that, but she was so patient and caring with me. When shopping for groceries in Lubbock right now you have two choices*, Wal-Mart & United. Compared to Wal-Mart, this place is awesome but I still don't really like it. They usually have what you need, but recently they have been changing the layout of sporadic things. This forces you to transverse the store looking for your last item and even the employees can't find what you're looking for. My favorite part is the restaurant in the NE corner. For a sandwich it is a little pricey, but they will usually pile on the sides if asked. I would suggest staying away on the weekends because of the congestion from people and tasting stations, but the crowd is somewhat manageable the rest of the time. Also, there fuel is almost always the cheapest in town beating out competitors by 3-5 cents a gallon. read more

This review is for the floral department, specifically. In the past two weeks I have ordered two different bouquets (Pick-Me-Up & All is Bright) to be delivered. I did this through the online FDT system, which directs your order to the Market Street/United store that best matches your order and destination. With both orders, I received an email (not phone call--email!) the morning of delivery telling me that the floral department did not have the item I ordered, and that I needed to call THEM (they had my number!!) to rectify the situation. One of these orders was placed many days in advance, and yet they waited until the day it was supposed to be delivered to notify me that they couldn't do it. When I called (because they couldn't be bothered to call me), I was put on hold for 8 minutes then hung up on. I had to call back and pretend that I was placing a new order for them to put me through to someone. Never again. read more

This place is incredible. I am not from this town, although my husband was born here, things have changed over the many decades away. Well, we needed a florist for the funeral of a beloved family member; after 11 hours of driving we would be arriving in a short time frame for viewing on February 14th. I knew with the short notice of the funeral plans that Feb.14th (busiest one for florists of the year) a delivery wasn't going to be possible let alone maybe not getting flowers other than roses, which I don't care for. Plus, I am an "out of the box" thinker when it comes to most things, including floral arrangements and this was going to be a task. My husband wanted Peace Lilys, I wanted flowers. All I knew I wanted, was two identical arrangements for the two daughters of the deceased. Well, the store was packed, but were clearly prepared. They not only had the floral department, which could rival brick & mortar florists, but a separate very large space for those buying Valentine pre-made floral arrangements in all sizes, shapes, vases or bouquets. First, I see two identical Peace Lily plants but smaller than I wanted. Mary Anne, a floral specialist, helped get me of my "out of the box" dilemma by going in the back stock room and finding two identical light pink, two double baskets. Sam, the floral designer, and Mary Anne helped choose a beautiful assortment of fresh and different flowers such as antique roses which are my exception, purple thistles (so happy they had these), tulips, just an overall beautiful assortment, lilys, hydrangea, some we selected incase we needed more. Sam said they would be ready in 30 to 45 minutes. We left to run an errand and came back. The arrangements were finished and were EXACTLY as I had prayed they would be and Sam didn't need the extra flowers afterall. Truly gorgeous floral arrangements!!! We were in so big of a hurry, I never asked how much the cost would be. We went to the check out and Steven rang up $90.00. I wanted to cry. What a beautiful ending to go with a beautiful Aunt who passed away. The two daughters cried when they heard each one was for them. They thought the store made a mistake and we were charged twice. They were just beautiful. read more

Much better when it was Market Street! Since it changed hands and became Albertson's, prices have gone sky high! It seems like every time I go, the prices seem to be higher than the time before! e.g. one week Colby Jack cheese 2 for $5, next week 2 for $6, one week Blue Bell $4.99, then $5.99, THEN $6.99... C'mon... it's ice cream, not gold! Lubbock needs an HEB, a WEGMAN'S, a Krogers... SOMETHING other than United Market Street, or as I call it... "the only game in town!" United seriously needs some competition! If you truly regret my disappointment, stop raising your prices every week! I've tried to be patient with market street grocery pickup but it ain't working. The last three times I've ordered from them wasn't what I expected. The first time I was given some groceries that weren't mine. I had to make another trip to return it and get what I ordered. The second time I wasn't given all of my groceries. I had to go back and pick it up. The third time I noticed after I left that something wasn't right. Five minutes later someone from market street calls and they say they found some more of my groceries. I had to go back once again to retrieve my groceries. I'm sorry but strike three and you're out. This review is for the breakfast burrito grill area. Haven't been in quite a long time as I come to town infrequently. This used to be a go to place for breakfast burritos. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Went this morning and watched the young lady behind the grill literally slopping ingredients on cold tortillas. Also on biscuits. I stopped her before hand by telling her to only give me a half scoop each of beans and eggs, and also asked for sausage. She took a three inch sausage patty, broke it in two and plunked it on top of the burrito. Ah, such pride in her workmanship. She passed the burrito on to the next team member who dropped a handful of cold grated cheese on top and folded the burrito and passed it on to the guy who weighs it and sticks the price tag on. I noted there was no longer any pico de gallo. I did manage to weedle a small plastic cup of tasteless tomato sauce that was being passed off as salsa. Did I mention the shortage of napkins? Can't recommend this place any longer. read more

Yes, this is a great place for groceries. But more importantly, they have some of the best breakfast burritos in town. First things first: the burritos are weighed by the pound. No more of that you-gotta-pay-for-each-topping business. That is LAME. It's roughly $4.99/lb for burritos (pretty positive), and if you get a lot of toppings, yes, you might get a $5+ burrito. But it is so so so worth it. May I let you in on my weekly order? Of course. I'll get a smaller burrito with migas (without cheese), potatoes, crumbled sausage, ham, green chiles, jalapeños, no shredded cheese as a topper, and 2 salsas. You can try to get a "smaller burrito", but the actual proportion could depend on who's building it Pray that it will also be wrapped in proper burrito fashion rather than layerville (which sucks, but whatevs). Inevitably, you're probably going to have a roughly $4 burrito. Good job, that means you've done it right. In that case, know to leave your burrito in its phenomenal, well-wrapped, foil casing, as that is the only thing keeping your burrito ingredients far from you cute dress and the grease away from your lovely hands. Dump that salsa on top, and you're doing it right. The other Market Street locations do offer breakfast burritos, but there something magical about the 50th & Indiana location. Whether it's the fact that I make way too much small talk with the same ladies working the line or the delicious, greasy ingredients in my heavenly Sunday morning burrito, I don't know. But try them. United has been around forever - I remember going to United with my grandmother when I was a kid. They have always been clean, friendly places to go. They have a great variety of local products as well as your standard groceries, and they are always involved in the community. They have a great deli, floral department, and pretty much everything. A super great grocery store for the town of Lubbock. Very similar to a Central Market if you have ever shopped at one. Has a super great selection of anything you might need, along with great takeaway food options. My two favorite parts of Market Street is the sushi, and gluten free selection. They have one of the best gluten free selections of any grocery store I have been to. Love it!! read more

Market Street is the bee's knees. There is no other place in town that is comparable. The only grocer I prefer is Whole Foods, which is non-existent in this terrible town. They have homemade food made in front of you to take out-- or you can pick some up pre made. Also, they have a selection of organic produce. I don't disagree with the other reviews about Market Street (either location). It does have the best selections in town, and I particulary like the produce department. And, with the availability of wine and beer in town now, I have been impressed with their selections of both. But there are two things I hate about the place. First of all, I CAN'T STAND those little kid grocery carts. They are a nuisance, and I wish they would go away. I have also grown to hate how crowded the stores are, especially on the weekends. There are tasting stations set up any place there's a few square feet of open space and it really makes the store congested. It seems like they are trying to make going to the store some kind of an event (Have a thimble of wine! Here's some sausage! Want to try some cheese!) and I guess that's OK if you need that sort of excitement to make it through a shopping trip. For me, though, I'd prefer a shopping trip without tiny grocery carts and tasting stations every two feet. read more

Wow! This was a trip! Market Street advertises that they have dietician-conducted store tours. Let's see: 10 minutes a 50 seconds later (based on my call duration) and having been transferred to 5 different people in the store, i was told that store tours are only scheduled for school children and that dietician tours are scheduled through an off-site coordinator at their distribution center or something like that. Number 1 the customer service was rude; number 2 no one seems to know about these tours; number 3 the dietician tours are scheduled by someone who is not on site; number 4 it doesn't seem like they actually make any presentations to groups in the community at other locations. As steam was coming out of my ears, a friend told me that the only place to go for free store tours (for anyone including children) and for nutrition presentations offsite in the community is NATURAL GROCERS!!!!!!!!! Yea! In no time, and with no bureaucracy, their Nutritional Health Coach, Rachelle, will help you with whatever you need in this regard. They also have a demo kitchen that can be used to show how good food and a healthy diet can be used when cooking. WOW. This is such a valuable service to the community. Everyone in the store was smiling and happy. It was immaculate in there and everything was affordable. A huge gluten free selection, all certified organic produce. I was told that everything on their shelves is meticulously evaluated for safety and purity. No artificial anything on these shelves! And I think they are one of the first true visionaries in the wellness movement because they were founded in 1955. So Market Street can keep their tours, rude employees and fondness for keeping people on hold. They are not the only game in town. I have become a fully committed natural grocers customer. I come here for the fresher produce and organized, in-stock inventory. Count your blessing Lubbock, these are luxuries one cannot get in smaller West Texas, Eastern New Mexico towns. I live in Clovis where I can't find a fresh avocado to save my life. I stop here sometimes if I happen to be in Lubbock and bring home treasures from he "big city." Great grocery selection and decent organic selection compared to elsewhere in Lubbock (besides recently opened Sprouts). I have always noticed United and Market Streets in Lubbock tend to have local high school students working there and that keeps me at ease when shopping there. They're genuine and always willing to lend a helping hand. Market Street is also a great place to go for dinner if you're looking for relatively quick great warm food. They have a decent variety of entrees to choose from ranging from chicken, pizza, asian, salads, sushi and more. I wish it was a bit bigger but I heard they are opening a new 2 story location on either 4th or 19th street; I cannot remember! read more

Visiting Lubbock for the week. Was trying to decide on breakfast so I stopped in at Peets Coffee and Tea. One large cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll later and I'm ready to start the day. The cafe is a perfect place for breakfast lunch and dinner. Never had anything that wasn't superb. Best grocery store around as well - still ask if you want paper or plastic and then carry it to your car for you. That's something I have missed. Keep up the good work! read more

We go to Market Street regularly for lunch during the week. They are speedy and the food is fresh. There are also many different options to choose from. The staff is always friendly and even remember our usual lunch order. The only complaint I have is that if you have lunch between 12 and 12:30 the dining room areas can completely fill up. It's popular with the local high school kids, so there may be a security guard at the door and backpacks piled up in the entryway. I'm not sure if that will change soon, though. I think the nearby high school will be a closed campus for lunch. I wish (on weekends) that they would extend the hours that breakfast is served. If you don't get there before 10:00 am you're out of luck. read more

I went to Market Street to get TP and Gatorade, but I got a little sidetracked and bought some other items. The star of the show is the Smoked Gouda Pimento Spread. I bought a tub of that and my favorite crackers, Triscuits. I've had this spread before, but this time it was so incredibly awesome I can't even believe it. I was shocked the first time I came here. I, like many other college students, frequented the local Wal-Mart when I needed groceries, but since discovering this place I've rarely gone back. Market Street is cleaner, the produce is fresher, they have a better bakery and deli, their selection is VASTLY superior in almost every single section, and the employees are actually nice and helpful as opposed to the Wal-Mart workers who seem dead on their feet (though I don't really blame them). Even their sushi, while nowhere near the quality of an actual sushi restaurant, is still relatively tasty and made fresh daily. I actually enjoy shopping here, whereas at Wal-Mart I feel like I'm heading off to battle every time I go there. I only have two relatively small complaints. Firstly, the above perks come at a price--prices, really, since almost everything here is more expensive than at Wal-Mart. I don't buy a lot of food, but I imagine over time it adds up. Secondly, there are no cart racks in the parking lot, so if you buy more than you can carry with you they insist on walking you out with one of their baggers who will bring the cart back to the store after you leave. This might be a positive aspect for some people, but honestly I feel like they're wasting their time since I never buy that much food and I could have done it all myself. Neither of these are anything major, though; I'm willing to pay a little extra if only for high-quality fruits and vegetables and greater selection of local salsas and salad dressings. It's kind of like a mini Central Market--it's not nearly as good, but it's the best we have in Lubbock right now. I'd recommend shopping here at least occasionally, if only to get a break from the hordes at Wal-Mart. :) read more
