Market situated right off of the Naschmarkt continues to be one of the top restaurants in Vienna. I write "continues to be" because I was a little worried about it. You see this was one of the innovative chef Simon Xie Hong's restaurants and originally called 'On Market.' However a dispute with the business partners led to Mr. Hong's leaving this year and the restaurant rebranding itself as simply 'Market.' But I didn't need to worry because the new Austro-Asian fusion menu is super creative and the food is as tasty as ever. Judging by the crowds waiting to get a table here, it seems others are also finding the new incarnation to their liking.
A recent meal at Market with a close friend was a delight from start to finish. We ordered dishes that we could share so the dinner became a communal feast. To start with I ordered the China-Bärlauch-Ravioli which is a taste explosion in your mouth. Excellent! My friend ordered the Frühlingstempura. Not only is this an attractive dish, it was lightly fried to perfection and very good. Our main courses were just as wonderful. My Yu Shian-Iberico-Schweinsfilet was full of flavors and blended well with the accompanying rice. My friends Lachsfilet in a spicy Bohnensauce over Risotto was creative and delicious. We drank an Austrian Grüner Veltliner wine to complement the great food offerings.
Let me add here that the service was friendly and efficient and that the place looks awesome inside. No wonder it's not always easy to get a table here. 'Market' is showing no signs of ceasing to be one of Vienna's best restaurants! read more
