I spotted this restaurant on Google Maps, conveniently located around the corner from our hotel, and I'm so glad we enjoyed a meal here! This place was hopping on a Monday night! Even so, we were greeted promptly and only had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up. The location and outdoor seating is enjoyable-- a bit quieter since it is off the main street although still good people watching. We even spotted a man riding a bicycle in a full tux (with tails!) + an instrument case on his back, presumably on this way to a nearby performance. On to the food-- they were highlighting a number of dishes featuring chanterelles, which are/were in season. I got their pork cordon bleu, which was stuffed with ham, cheese, and chanterelles and my honey got a mixed mushroom risotto. My dish came with a salad with lots of fresh veggies. Everything was absolutely delicious. Something I particularly appreciated was observing their flexibility with dietary needs. Someone next to us mentioned an allergy and the server (who also happens to be the owner) quickly pointed out all of her options. I think the only potential downside is that they are a cash-only establishment. This was fine for us, because we were on the tail end of our trip with some remaining euros to spend. Amazing Wiener Schnitzel! One of the few with genuine veal schnitzel. On a weekday, reservations were full. We were lucky to arrive right when it opened and they had couple of tables available. We love the outside seating in a quirt street. I tried the "American fried chicken" as I am not a fan of veal, but had a bite and I enjoyed the taste. My chicken was delicious. It was bone in, but incredibly moist and crunchy. It was not greasy at all! I also love the potato salad. It had a good combination of sour taste to it. We got there late at night. The place was packed. This is the no. 1 place listed on traveladvisor.com. It was a good place to dine.

Great little find right in the heart of Vienna. We wanted to find the perfect Wienerschnitzel while in Vienna, and we certainly did. Such a cute little shop with friendly and attentive staff. The Wienerschnitzel was excellent by the way as was the Viennese Strudel. If we find ourselves back on Vienna, we'll certainly be back. read more

The owner/manager yelled at his staff in front of the guests. This should never happen - even behind closed doors - but this just made it a very negative experience. I don't want to give my money to someone who verbally abuses his staff. read more

Let me just start off by saying I hate to write these kind of reviews, but sometimes I have no other recourse. Prior to taking a very much needed trip to Vienna, I did a bit of research to find a few places I just had to try. Wiener-Wiaz'haus was one of them. So on our very first day, Wednesday, April 11th, my smarter and prettier half and I set out to have our very first dinner there. After arriving at about 8:20 pm, we found that the place was full inside but had a few empty tables outside. The person who we first made contact with, a man, tall, slender with a beard told us that unfortunately, we could not sit inside, but could have a seat outside. So we did. We waited about 12-15 minutes all the while we had yet to even receive water or menus. Another person who was working there, a female, tall, slender, was drying glasses. The guy was taking the order of a big party outside amongst doing other stuff. We were hiding in very plain sight. I noticed two ladies, who were walking down the street go in. After witnessing several people from inside the restaurant leaving, my wife decided that we now should be safe to get a table inside. The two women then start to leave the restaurant when the guy follows behind them and gives them a table inside. My wife and I point out that not only were we there first, we had not received anything but that there were other tables now available inside. The guy basically said he didn't know. But what about the other empty seats inside?????? Crickets. He did not offer us any of the other empty tables INSIDE. To the ladies credit, they offered to share their table with us. But I was too upset to eat there or give Wiener-Wiaz'haus any type of support. Being a Black person in the world means that you are very well aware that racism can often times hide in the mask of "poor service." I'm sure those ladies probably had a very lovely evening. This is truly a neighborhood gem that locals enjoy. We went for luncheon. (My father taught me that lunch is the better time when hoping to enjoy popular restaurants). We only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. The food was truly wonderful! One of the wait staff spoke English and she "adopted" us after it was clear our German skills were tourist basic. The restaurant has a true Austrian ambiance with wonderful antique signs on the walls in one of the dining rooms. Cash only. Note: I personally think it's very important when visiting other countries to remember that I am a guest and to act like it. This seems to make the doors fly open and assure a warm welcome. read more

Vienna has so many old restaurants - a couple more than 500 years old - that they can get lost in the crowd. But clearly Wiener Wiaz'Haus maintains its popularity serving up Wiener Küche (Viennese cuisine) since 1898 in its just-off-of-the-Karlsplatz restaurant. As the name of the restaurant implies, it is emphasizing good old home cooking which most of the time is quite good but at other times you wish Mama would tweak it a little bit. I have had very tasty meals here and at other times just decent ones. Last week's lunch came under the decent umbrella. I ate a serviceable Blunzengröstl with Krautsalat. The lunch began with a fairly good Rindsuppe mit Eintopf. But on the positive side - the atmosphere was as charming as ever, the wait staff were friendly in this bustling place, and I can def say I'll be back - hopefully for one of their better meals. read more

We arrived with no reservation, and even though there were no tables inside, we scored a table outside on a beautiful Wednesday night. Even though we were outside, the staff never forgot us -- our orders were taken when we were ready and our food was delivered very promptly. We tried many of the specials, including the delightful beef broth with pancake strips, pumpkin risotto, and shrimp entree'. We also had the house special drink and dessert. The owners took the time to chat with us and before we left, they treated us to a yummy drink - on the house! The atmosphere, service, food, and special treatment made this an especially memorable night and it will be one of my fondest memories of Vienna for a long time to come! read more

Open later than other places this small restaurant was across from our hotel. The beer was cold and they offer lighter style for the younger drinkers. We had sausage, pretzels schnitzel and potato salad. Service was great and friendly. Many locals at the other tables. read more

Popped in for a late dinner (around 9pm) after we had to deviate from our original plans. And, like the other reviewers have already said, this place is fantastic. I wanted to order the classic Wiener Schnitzel, but they were SOLD OUT!!! That just goes to show how popular it must be at this restaurant. But the waitress recommended the pork cutlet as a close alternative, so I decided to go with that, along with an unfiltered beer (forgot the name, oops). My friend and I were starving at this point, so we were so happy to see the HUUUGE plates of food that came out!! Two large pieces of fried meaty goodness and a perfectly complementary bowl of potato salad landed in front of me, and I devoured almost all of it, only leaving a few pieces of potato that I just couldn't manage to stuff down my throat. Needless today, I left completely satisfied and with a full belly. It's always a good sign when you see plenty of locals in a restaurant, and this place was definitely no exception. The table next to us housed a group of older women, chatting the night away while sipping on some wine. The restaurant was so cozy -- the perfect place to wind down after a busy day! What a fantastic meal! The best we've had on our tour through Austria. The flavors were exceptional in contrast to the rather repetitive nature of all previous restaurants. Our waiter was excellent, professional, and polite. He was efficient, which was more impressive considering how many tables he had at the time. The meal was phenomenal. We shared the sheep cheese wrapped in bacon and the goulash with bread dumplings. I would recommend trying a dessert as well. I cannot imagine a better quality meal or environment. Bravo! read more

In my time at the Technical University Vienna I spent my lunch breaks in the Wiener-Wiaz'haus. At lunch time you have the choice between three delicious meals for a reasonable price, not to forget the friendly service. I got to this rather small place because reviews were good and it was close to my hotel. It looks very modest and old. However, I got pike perch fried to absolute perfection with a good mix of rice and vegies. Price was moderate, service friendly. There is also some outside seating. Will come again! read more

Great food. Great atmosphere. One of the great restaurant visits of my life. The Cordon Bleu was pure bliss, as was the salad that came with it. The server was ever friendly and attentive. The raspberry spirit served afterwards was in a league of its own. The main course came with an excellent salad. If you go to Vienna, and want to spend a great time at a restaurant there, go to this place. It's worth every cent, and it's comparatively cheap. The joint was full, but after waiting for maybe three minutes, my group could be accommodated. I can't praise this restaurant enough.
