After my regular barber suddenly wasn't at my usual spot anymore, I had to expand the search outside of downtown. I found Uptown Barbershop through Yelp/Google reviews and decided to roll the dice. I booked with Boris specifically because I saw he does beard trims and styles that match what I like. Boris absolutely nailed it. He took the time to understand what I wanted, delivered a clean, sharp haircut, and the beard trim was on point and shaped perfectly without taking off too much. Most importantly, the beard is wife-approved, which is basically the ultimate review. If you're picky about your hair/beard and don't want to gamble on "good enough," book Boris. I'll be back.

I'm not sure if tipping rates for haircuts are generally higher in Arizona or if this was influenced by me being from out of state I reached out via message here on yelp for clarification but never received a response. So let me share our 5 star experience:…read more I took my 5 year old son for a hair cut (to a pretty typical hair cut place) two days before picture day at school... what a mistake that was. ‍ The girl HACKED his hair up. It was BAD. That left me scrambling to find somewhere to fix it. I decided it would probably be best to take him to an actual barber who specializes in his type of hair cut. That's where The Dapper Devil and James comes in. I made an appointment for 5pm (now the day before picture day). Well... when we got there, my son was tired and generally overwhelmed by walking into a new place that looked different from the type of places he's used to going. He just melted down. I tried everything to talk him down and get him to come around to the idea. James was amazing, trying to get him excited but it just wasn't in the cards for us last night. James asked when I drop him off at school and offered to come in at 7am, THREE HOURS before they open to get my sons hair fixed up. We didn't need to be there till a bit later so 8am was totally doable for us and he insisted we come at 8am. Fast forward to the next morning (today). We got there at 8am and James was ready for us. My son was in a much better place and was happy to be there, but still a bit nervous. James was SO patient, kind, and even a little silly to get my son comfortable. He showed my son everything he was going to do, let him pick the comb color, the water bottle, etc to allow my son to feel like he was a part of the experience. James gave me some pomade and explained to me how to use it best to get my sons double cowlicks to sit down properly. And then.... He REFUSED to let me pay him for the hair cut OR the pomade. I practically begged to let me pay and he refused. He said he was happy to get my sons hair fixed up and give him a positive experience so he's excited to come back. Hair cuts have always been a touchy thing for my son, so thank you so much James and ALL the barbers there on Thursday evening who tried to help my son through the nerves.
