Thank you, Yelp, for directing me to this place. I'm happy I found it. The GF and I were way the hell and gone out in the suburbs the other night and looking for a good restaurant. We looked on Yelp. ~4.5 stars with 22 reviews? We gave it a shot. And we were not disappointed. *fistbumps all around* I got the full slab of ribs. She got the prime rib. Both had really good flavor and were cooked well. I wish the ribs were smoked, but they were fall-off-the-bone tender and easy to eat. The prime rib (I stole some) was REALLY tender and flavorful. Fries were OK; green beans were good; corn on the cob was amazing. We couldn't eat dessert. It was too much food. Service was OK. We were there really late on a Saturday, so that wasn't too surprising. But it was a great place to eat. So glad we found it. read more

Last night we tried Mark's Feed Store, based on the Yelp reviews. It was excellent. Lee had the barbecue combination platter and I had the wing in a bird's nest with burgoo. The boys had hamburgers with barbecue sauce. Being from GA/NC/SC we enjoy good barbecue and this fit the bill! Also it was free dessert night and we each got a piece of the buttermilk pie - yummy! Note on the burgoo - it is not like Brunswick stew and was very thick and spicy. For some reason it reminded me of Cajun étouffée with chunks of barbecue. We have a new place for dinner! read more

My friend, Todd, and I enjoyed our meals. He had a cup of burgoo and a chicken sandwich with the red potato salad. I had the rib, pulled pork, shredded chicken combo with 2 sides. Everything we ate was excellent. It came out in 15 minutes. Megan, our server, kept tabs on keeping drinks full and got our order exactly right. All pork. All the time. That's right, no beef brisket BBQ here (they have burgers). At first, this made my brisket-loving self fairly sad, that is, until I tasted the pulled pork and ribs. DEEEEELICIOUS!!! Definitely loved my first few experiences with Mark's at this location (which happens to be close to the Residence Inn at which I had an extended stay). Their sauce is awesome - it's the thicker, sweeter sauce as opposed to vinegary Carolina-type sauce. While I like their regular, the hot is where it's at. It's not very spicy at all, but definitely has more flavor than regular. I have toyed around with their limited sides, and the best options are baked beans, cole slaw, and the sweet potato. Steer clear of the fried corn on the cob. The wings also did not impress. But the pulled pork is divine, and the ribs are amazing. I hate putting a negative review on this franchise but it is time! There food has not held up through the test of time. I have ate their twice in the last month and the food is no better than a good cafeteria at a hospital and that is very harsh but i think they are solely relying on how long they have been around and their catchy slogans. Was in town visiting family a few weeks ago and was extremely disappointed in the chicken sandwich. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich for carry out and was assuming it was like any other pulled chicken or pulled pork sandwich and would have barbecue sauce on it (and marinated in something). This chicken was just plain chicken, nothing else. Perhaps I was mistaken and Marks doesn't serve their chicken sandwiches that way but even if I wasn't, the chicken was bad. It reminded me of something you'd get for school lunch, only worse. I've eaten at Marks many times though out the years and have always been a fan but this was so bad I'm done, ain't goin back. 5 stars for the ribs, which happen to be the best that we have tried in Louisville. Food is consistent, staff is always very friendly and this is a solid place to grab some awesome food. Aside from the ribs, I will often get the fried lemon pepper fish. Most of the time it is super crispy, there have only been a few times where it is not. I enjoy the cajun chicken pasta salad, sweet potato fries and spicy fries. Their green beans are excellent! read more

Mark's Feed Store has been one of my favorite restaurants since I was young. I used to frequent the Highlands location, but have since moved from Louisville. We visited the Shelbyville Road/Middletown location with my family last week while we were in town. It seemed crowded for a weekday lunch, but we were able to find parking easily. The parking situation is always hairy, as there are not too many spaces near the front of the building and it is on an incline. Service was great. Our waitress was extremely friendly and the appetizer came out quickly. Never pass up the onion strings. They are spicy, fried, and yummy. I like that they give you a bunch of forks stabbed in the basket so when you get them everyone can go for it! The pork was dry but could be salvaged with sauce. The macaroni and cheese was very creamy and tasted homemade. My toddler had a chicken finger kids meal and I was very impressed with the quality of chicken. Usually kids meals seem to have a frozen chicken strip reheated, but these actually looked fresh breaded and fried. Mark's Feed Store is somewhere we love to frequent while in town. We will probably return to the Highlands location next time since it is closer to my parents house, but overall each location is consistent with their food and service. read more

Ordered and I swear not two minutes later she was back with our dinner! My kids and I love this place!! Russell, the manager, is such a nice genuine guy! Perfect in every way! The food was delicious! I ordered honey wings, fried pickles and the red skin potato salad. I almost didn't even make it to the wings because the fried pickles were the best I've ever had. I would imagine all of the sides are delicious, but the potato salad was really good, big chunks of potatoes. The wings were good, but the honey sauce tasted just like sweet and sour sauce, wasn't as special as I was hoping. I would venture to guess that the other bbq options are better. The southern hospitality game was strong here. I ordered take out and the bar tender offered me a sweet tea to sip on while I waited. The northerner in me was so surprised!! If you are traveling and looking for a destination experience this is not the place. It has the feel of an aspiring suburban chain restaurant and it generally succeeds on that level. Had the sampler plate, which had a little bit of everything. And by little, I mean very little. Small portions. Ribs are baby backs with a grilled flavor and are safe bet. Pork and brisket were more acceptable than memorable. Sauces were commercially bottled and okay. Fries were fast food quality and baked beans seemed barely altered from the can. I don't know what it was about those little chicken wings. I didn't expect to like them but they were salty bites of deceptively can't-get-enough fried chicken goodness. They were a pleasant surprise. I hate to sound so negative because the people were so nice. The service was great and nothing was bad. This just isn't the place to put on your Louisville "must try" list as you should expect from a 4.5 star rated restaurant with over 100 yelp reviews. read more

This is a BBQ place, very casual. Great food, and friendly staff. I've had their pulled pork sandwiches before and also their honeywings which are delicious. Our first visit there we were given a complimentary bottle of their BBQ sauce which is sold in stores and also used by Papa John's pizza. Highly recommended. I've ventured here twice: The first time was just so I could satisfy my hunger. The food was solid and the service was great. I noticed that they give you a free piece of buttermilk pie when you check in on Yelp. Done! That was also the moment in which my life changed. Holy deliciousness!!! MAN!! A friend of mine and I ventured to Louisville for the derby last May. We had a simple rule "No chain restaurants" But since this was a local chain we were totally fine to go try it out, and man am I glad we did!! Being from Arizona/Utah I had never heard of burgoo, but when in Rome... It was simply delicious!! I wish I had the recipe (or more plans to visit Louisville so I could have more) The corn bread was spot on. The ribs were off the charts and the cold beer washed it all down. The wait staff was not only helpful and welcoming they also gave us great direction on where to continue our Kentucky Oaks eve festivities. The BBQ pork was dry (though good with sauce poured on it -- was nice that they had full bottles of sauce right there on the table), the baked potato was dry even though it was "loaded", and the fried corn was kinda dry, too. But, it was Free Dessert Monday, and the Banana Oreo Pudding was **excellent** (not dry, lol)! Big slices of real banana in it. Definitely the high point of the meal. I got the recommendation to visit Mark's Feed Store from a nice man at National Car Rental. When I got there, the parking lot was packed...I actually was looking up another place to go when a spot opened up, and I'm glad it did! I got the #1 combo with ribs, chicken wings and pulled pork. My side choices were cole slaw and potato salad. The ribs and cole slaw were good, the pulled pork was really good, but my absolute favorite were the wings and potato salad. My friendly server Mary took great care of me, that doesn't always happen when you dine solo like I have to a lot. I think I'm going back tomorrow night...I need more of those wings! As packed as the parking lot was, most of the tables were full, but there was no wait for a seat. Lots of families and people who looked like they ate here a lot. In from out of town and like BBQ? Our work crew makes frequent visits to Mark's for lunch, as they have proven to be a consistent and expeditious choice for our 1-hour break. This visit, however, stood out from the others - and not in a good way. Our server approached our table and simply said hello - he didn't ever tell us his name. It was all downhill from there. He stood there awkwardly, until I finally asked for a tea. The others followed suit, and we also then placed our orders. He dropped our drinks off and quickly moved on to a nearby table without saying a word. We noticed he ignored our original requests for no lemon, extra ice, etc. Not a huge deal. Our food came after what seemed like longer than usual, and was brought to us by someone other than our server. She also got us refills. I expected our server to stop by and ask if everything came out okay, but he never did! In fact, we tried for over 10 minutes to flag him down just to get a cup of ice. He was moving so quickly through the dining room it was impossible to catch his attention. When he finally did come to the table to pick up an empty glass, he didn't even look at us and just kept moving until we called out to him. And then it took over 5 minutes to get the ice! After we were done eating, we waited for our server to come by with checks. We also needed to order our desserts (part of the 502 Lunch Week menu), and needed them to go since our usual 30-40 minute lunch past the 1 hour mark at this point. We have to flag him down (yet again). We ask for our desserts, to-go drinks, and checks. He comes back with checks and desserts. We ask again for drinks to go. He zips his way back with them (wrong like our original drinks, too). He barely spoke to us the entire time - not even a "thank you" or "good-bye" as we were leaving. And for someone who moves so fast, he was incredibly slow with actually getting anything done. The only good parts of our lunch were the parts he had nothing to do with - the taste of the food and the friendliness of all other staff we interacted with. Now this won't prevent me from returning, but it had sullied my longstanding impression of Mark's. Though if this were my first visit, this review would have two stars and I would not be back. read more

Their barbecue, ribs and chicken are delicious and their potato salad is so good, I no longer have to make it, as it tastes home-made with big chunks of egg. We've also used them to cater at The Parklands when we rented a room. They were easy to work with, more than accommodating and on time for delivery. They set up very quickly and food was warm and cold as needed. The actual restaurant used to be a feed store so the inside still had reminiscent of that and is charming. read more

First, nice, friendly staff. It seems like a great work environment and everyone was ready with a smile and wanted to ensure I was taken care of and doing well. 5 stars for them. I ordered the 10 piece rib dinner. The ribs, tender, the right amount of smokiness and full flavor. I tried the 3 sauces, but just felt they were all a little too sweet and watery. For sides, I had the green beans, sweet corn and baked beans. I know, I know, why didn't I get Mac and cheese? Well I already had excellent Mac and cheese at Pascals in Atlanta. Hard to top that and decided to go veggie. The sides were ok- green beans needed a little more fatback, sweet corn was dry and baked beans, just needed more flavor.
