I wish I could give it more stars. I'm a bbq lover and have eaten bbq all across the country and the world, and this ranks #1 for me. The name rings true, as it looks like a feed store from the inside and out, but don't let that fool you it tastes amazing. We were in town for the derby and ate there the first night. We had the fried pickls/onion straws which were great. For dinner we had the #1 which was bbq ribs, honeywings, bbq pork, potato salad and sweet (fried) corn. The honeywings are the best wings I've ever had....anywhere. The crisp skin coupled with the honey & pepper was amazing. For dessert we had the buttermilk pie which was to die for. Oh and the sweet tea was great. The second night in louisville we didn't know where to go for dinner so we decided why not go to Marks again. Honeywings as an appetizer, ribs for dinner, green beans and baked apples for sides. Buttermilk pie again. We told them that we came the night before and they said that since it was our first time (yesterday) and today that they were comping our pie, and giving us free bottles of sauce. Amazing place. I will drive back down here from Michigan to eat again. You will not be disappointed if you go. The Food was perfect and the service was out of this world. This place has awesome, but what truly makes it stand out is the AMAZINGLY service. From the moment we walked in to the time we finished, we truly felt welcome. Our server Mary was fantastic. Working in Louisville and tired of hotel food looked around for some good BBQ. After reading a few reviews decided to try out Mark's. Great place to get a good meal and laid back eating. Had the rib and chicken plate with spicy fries and baked beans. Everything I had was very good. Meat fell off the bones. Could of had more chicken but I had plenty of ribs. Consistency makes this place good. That's hard to do with bbq & it not taste like it came out of a package, warmed up in a microwave. My first visit to Mark's and I was impressed with the service and the food. I ordered the BBQ ribs (10 bone) with the baked beans and spicy fries. The ribs were some of the best that I have had, I choose the hot barbecue sauce and for me it was the right amount of hot. The sides were very good and the food came out quickly and was served hot. The manager came over to make sure everything was to my liking. When he found out that it was my first visit to the original Mark's he had the bartender, who was fantastic inform me that I get a free dessert and bottle of barbecue sauce. Our first dining experience at Mark's Feed Co was excellent! We started with 2 appetizers. The fried pickles were thinly sliced like potato chips served with a spicy ranch dipping sauce. We also had the honey wings. They are dipped in a spicy batter, golden fried, and doused in their honey wing sauce. Very tasty and worth coming back for. I had the ribs. They were fall-off-the-bone tender with their fried corn and red potato salad. The ribs were fantastic. I am not a fan of too much mayo in my potato salad so I wasn't a big fan of it. The fried corn was good. We were seated quickly and the place was full. Our server was polite but not particularly attentive. Next time we are in Louisville we will definitely come back. read more

This most recent trip was lacking. We've been coming here for years but feel like the quality of food and service has really dropped. The past two visits we've had to wait over 10 minutes before they visit our table to take our drink order. My most recent visit wasn't great - my Wild Salmon Salad has bananas in it. Yuck. This location has always been great .... until this week. We ordered several pounds of meat for a 6:00 pm pick up. I showed up at 7 minutes till 6 and was told it wasn't ready and I needed to go to my car and they would bring it out. No big deal but she didn't have to be so snooty about it. We had a very nice visit recently while in town for the NASP archery tournament. Despite having a very large group (25-30 but we didn't need to all sit together) the staff did a fantastic job getting us taken care of. It also helped that we arrived after 9:00 so the main dinner rush was over. I had the BBQ chicken and it was very good. Not the best I've ever had, but certainly it ranks on the upper end of things. It sounded like the rest of the group had the same experience...I didn't hear of anyone with a bad meal but I also didn't hear anyone else rave about it being the best ever. For an appetizer got the honey wings/onion straws appetizer. Honey wings just as awesome as everyone says! Sweet honey glaze w/a crispy exterior. Dinner was a combo of ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. I admit. I have a very high standard for BBQ. Being from Texas, I rate all BBQ on what I can get there. I had the brisket and baby back ribs. The brisket was tough and had little smoke flavor. It tasted as if it had been warmed up. The brisket was also a bit dry. Good brisket does not need sauce. I had to use their sauce to make the brisket edible. The ribs. Hmm. Where do I start. First, they guarantee "Fall of the bone ribs." In what world does a legitimate BBQ joint advertise fall off the bone ribs. Rib meat should require a bit of a tug to get the meat off the bone. The ribs had virtually no seasoning and seemed to be grilled, not smoked. I ordered the ribs without the sauce as, like brisket, you should be able to eat ribs with no sauce. I had to use sauce to give the ribs any flavor. I didn't try any other items. To me, brisket and ribs are the benchmark. If you can't produce tasty brisket and ribs, I'm not going to bother with anything else. I was disappointed, to say the least. read more

I was in Louisville for the WFX conference 9/21-9/22. We visited Mark's BBQ on 9/22. It was a party of 17. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted and sat at our tables. Our server was Cathy. She was awesome! Very vibrant and energetic. We ordered our food, everything was accurate and very tasty. Some of the best BBQ I've ever had. My friend and I were treated like royalty. The brisket sandwich was superb, the best I've had outside Texas, and my friend said the honey wings were the best she ever had. There are a lot of places to eat barbecue in Louisville. I have tried a lot of them. I keep coming back to Marks. Their ribs are the fall off the bone type and really don't need any additional sauce That is when you know you have found a good one. Prices are extremely reasonable and I go a lot on Tuesday because of the free buttermilk pie. Frankly the pie is so reasonably priced anyway hardly is a reason to go. The baked beans and the fried corn on the cob make for a complete meal for under $20. This is a winner every time. You are always assured the same quality each time and the service is quick and friendly. If you have to wait hang out because they move quick here. Love it! read more

Maybe it's cuz I came in only 1 hr before closing I got a hold of some dried out substandard BBQ. The brisket was extremely chewy and fatty flavor also left something to be desired. My wife spoke well of the burgoo I tried two spoonfuls and felt it was ok but nothing to write home about. My son played over his pulled pork sandwich. My daughter said her rib basket was dry but she liked the sauce ... My kids know what BBQ ribs and pulled pork should taste like per my exploits on the big green egg. I have never written a review of a restaurant before, but my experience at Mark's Feed Store has inspired me! While on a road trip from Chicago to Georgia, we decided to stop halfway in Louisville. I checked Yelp for the best BBQ in the area, and reviews for this place seemed pretty promising. I was a bit skeptical because it's kind of a chain, but it is solely Louisville based. We were starving when we got there, and immediately ordered a large basket of onion straws and fried pickles. Word to the wise: get the small onion straws! There were 4 of us and we stuffed ourselves silly with these amazing, crispy, tasty treats, and we STILL had half the basket left. I normally don't eat anything pickle related whatsoever, and I even loved the fried pickles as well! I got the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw and fries. I ate it with a little bit of their original sauce, and it was perfect. My dad and boyfriend both got the baby back ribs which they said were some of the best they have ever had- and my dad is a BBQ aficionado in Chicago! The baked beans and potato salad were also top notch. My mom ordered the brisket- she is the only one who was unimpressed with hers, saying that she has had better in the city, so I would recommend trying something else. I can't remember what our server's name was- only that he was a Cubs fan! He was clearly overwhelmed since it was a busy Friday night and forgot a couple of things, but he made up for it in treating us like we were the only table he had. He sent us on our way with two free BBQ sauces, AND an ENTIRE free buttermilk pie! We could not believe it- must be the southern hospitality!
