The parking lot at Mark's is always full with people strolling to the door from nearby streets too. We have ordered carry out several times after moving just a few blocks away (tried the barbecue, brisket, and fried fish) and they were just okay. I really wanted to love this place due to its close proximity to our home, so we recently went for indoor dining.... and it remains just okay. The interior screams of a 1970's cafeteria and so does the food. I ordered the brisket and the serving was very small, served in a paper french fry dish, and was 3/4 fat. The side of green beans was an oily mess. I know Mark's is a Louisville icon (open since 1988), but I doubt that I will return. My 'dinner platter' was certainly not worth $16.99. We each ordered a beer (different) and our server was unaware that my choice was not available and didn't inform me until after my husband was served. Had we known that, he would have have waited to have a beer with me later at another establishment. For those who are interested, children eat free on Tuesday nights with a paying adult. read more

Have to say I really like this place and have always enjoyed their food. Unfortunately today we had poor service. The server came and took our order for drinks and an appetizer. Then went off and brought the drinks and put in our order for the onion straws. Didn't take a pic of that because I was hungry. Then comes the good part. The lady to the right of us was seated fed and was leaving. The people behind us ordered and had their food and were leaving. This was about 35 minutes later. Talk about patience. Then........... wait for it............... The server came over and brought our tickets to us and said..... you all save room for desert? Maybe a pie? I looked at her . Um we haven't had our food yet..... you haven't received your food yet? No we sure haven't. Still a calm collected person. So she goes and I'm pretty sure she could tell I was a little annoyed as I looked at my watch. She went up and put the order in. Yes you heard that right she put our order in. About that time the manager was walking around filling up drinks and taking plates off tables. Pulled her to the table and asked her about our food. Told her what had happened then she went and checked on it. Then the manager comes back and says she was a little confused. But she would be waiting for the food to come out. She did apologize then said you can have a desert on us and she would take care of our onion straws and 15% off our meal. ( which their deserts are gross might I add, not a pudding or pie fan but it's okay because they have good ribs, not here for desert) woo free appetizer and a disgusting desert to go with a 15% to go fuck yourself discount for waiting over hour to get our food. Sweet glad we waiting for the food. Because the service would be better at McDonald's and that's saying a lot. With that being said I was hangry! Maybe I should not writing this while hangry. I'm not saying that people should roll out the red carpets when I visit an establishment. But just once I would like my food within a good time frame. I would have been okay had the restaurant been extremely busy. But it wasn't. More than half the tables around us were empty. You know after they were seated, fed and left after us. But my two stars go to the good ribs and that's all. I would have been more than happy to give more stars had the server been up front with me. It is just adequate that is about the best way I can describe the food at Mark's Feed Store they do have decent barbecue the prices or just not worth it for a barbecue place that I can go out to somewhere much better like Famous Dave's or places like that I do not recommend Mark's Feed Store. Ok. If you have a BBQ spot in the South, you better deliver on quality and flavors. There are a lot of things that Mark's does well, but on the most important parts there are a lot of misses. Their shoe string onion rings were a hit. Everyone loved them. They were like onion rings on steroids. You wanted to keep eating more. Their side dishes are good too. I loved the red potato salad and the chicken pasta. Yummy. Now, when you go for BBQ, you don't go for the side dishes and the appetizers. You go for the BBQ. Here, I was disappointed. I ordered the beef brisket. I expected slow smoked BBQ. This was definitely not slow smoked. It was not tender and it was overcooked. You cannot serve brisket at a BBQ spot without slow cooking it to make it tender. Smoking it is the best way. So, I cannot give this a recommendation. Now the chicken wings looked good but I didn't want to get that at a BBQ spot. Perhaps that's their claim to fame. So I'd advise getting the chicken and avoiding the beef here. I attended the Shelbyville road location. The food was terrible. I ordered 3 brisket sliders and 2 sides. Hot fries and baked apples. Quite a few of the apples where burnt and the dry meat where nothing more than chunks of roast beef cooked in a crock pot no taste! The fries where basic. Oh man the honey wings are hella delicious. They are the only wings I'm able to eat every single thing on the bone. I'm talking about cartilage and all. I will shove the whole thing in my mouth and clean the damn bone. Its that good. It doesn't matter what time of day, I will always get the honey wings dinner plate. Honestly wish I could get honey wings with a side of more honey wings but you can't. How do I know? Because I tried and I was just laughed at ...by everyone. After the laughter settled down, I tired again because I think they thought I was joking. That's how serious I was about getting more honey wings in my belly. We placed a pick up order to bring our friends that recently just came home with a baby. Our order was placed online using Mark's Feed Store website. I placed my order at 11am requesting a 5pm pick up that day. Mark's Feed Store offers bottles of their sauce for sale... less than the price at local grocery stores. We pulled around to the back of the restaurant and called the restaurant with the numbered spot we selected. Shortly after calling an employee came out with our food and collected my credit card for payment. I wish I was given an option to pay online. The food was packaged well in styrofoam containers. Our friends were happy with their dinner from Mark's that night. Thank you to the Wednesday night staff! We plan to come back and order takeout for ourselves in the future. read more

Mark's has the best baby back ribs in Louisville. A little bit of char, a little bit of smoke, they are amazing! I often get them delivered through Doordash. We went to Mark's the other night, and everyone got something they liked. I got the baby back ribs with a baked potato and the barnyard corn on the cob. (it was amazing!) My husband got a pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese, my sister in law got a turkey plate with a sweet potato, my brother in law got the sampler plate with "spicy" fries and baked beans, and my nephew got...something else I don't remember along with some burgoo. The service was quick, the food came out quickly, and everyone loved what they ordered. I do wish they served alcohol there. We were there on Black Friday evening, and the place was almost empty. It was COLD in there. Everyone put their coats on as soon as they could. It was worth it for the food, but I wish the dining area was a bit more comfortable. We were just passing through town. A one nice day. I asked the front desk assistant for a few recommendations of places to eat in this is one of them. She said the barbecue here was really good I decided to check out the online menu and order ahead. In the end we decided to go with the barbecue cheeseburger and chicken tenders meals. They said it would be about 20 minutes for pickup. Since the place was nearby, I waited about 10 minutes and then drove over. Once I reach the entrance, I was properly greeted by the Hostess who then directed me to the bar for my pickup order. The place wasn't very busy so was a fairly quick pick up. The bartender ask me if I was there for pickup and I said yes. She brought over my order. She pulled out everything checked it, verified that it was correct, gave us all of the requested sauces and took payment. In and out without any problems. Once back at the hotel we were able to enjoy our meal. I was surprised to find that the chicken tenders where actual pieces of sliced up chicken breast at with in battered and fried. Impressive. Inwas told that the chicken tenders were food and the BBQ Burger was not bad. Overall not a bad choice. If I were around longer I probably would go back to try a few BBQ items and those fried pickles. read more

It really doesn't justify having to wait more than 30 mins for a burger. I found the burger a bit dry. The chicken pasta salad was delicious though. The free buttermilk pie was flaky and extremely sweet. Loved the decor too. Okay, I saved the worst for last. I docked a star for it too. We've heard good thing about Mark's Feed Store and had to check it out! The restaurant is farm themed and has a nice casual vibe to it. I got the Honeywing dinner and my husband got the brisket BBQ dinner. Both were around $12.50 and included two sides. The sides on the menu was what I was most excited about actually! They have a lot of different kinds, but I ended up getting corn on the cob and green beans. The Honeywings were so crispy and cooked perfectly. The overwhelming taste of the wings was honey although I'm sure there are other flavors in the wings. I was hoping for a spice on the wings, but still thought they were really good. I kind of wish I got a side that was salty or spicy because the wings, corn on the cob and green beans together made the meal entirely too sweet. Next time, I think I would get spicy fries. The brisket BBQ was really good, especially with the BBQ sauce. I think again, we were hoping for a little more spice, but overall it was really good. We got a slice of buttermilk pie for dessert and it tasted like sugary eggs. We've never had buttermilk pie, so maybe were just unfamiliar with the flavor though. Not gonna lie, the service was not great. We never got a refill on our drinks and our waitress was nowhere to be found for most of the meal. We were hoping to ask her if there was a spicier BBQ sauce we could have used on the brisket, but never got the chance to because she wasn't around. When we were leaving, I saw that she was around the corner reading a book instead of tending to her tables. Burger week in Louisville always gets me out of the house to try something new. This year I decided to give Marks Feed Store, Middletown a try because their burger looked tasty. I've been a Mark's customer since they opened their Middletown spot in 1988 and keep coming back on a regular basis. Did I mention that I've not eaten meat or chicken for 24 of those years?!? My favorite, menu item by far is the salmon burger. The juicy and flavorful patty is grilled imparting it with a phenomenal char. Served dressed on a whole wheat bun, you can chose the side of your choice if the sweet potato fries that come with it aren't for you. Being a sauce addict, I always ask for the bbq ranch dressing for my burger (I'm not partial to the condiment that comes with the dish) and I love the delicious, sweet potato fries dipped in Mark's honeywing sauce! Family members adore the brisket and chicken sandwiches as well as the ribs and honeywings (which I also loved back in the day). The veggie plate (chose 3) can be an indulgent treat especially if you chose items like the potato salad (better than my mom's), fried corn on the cob, onion rings, or baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter. Every inch was covered it toasted marshmallow. Red potato salad was delish and I'd get it again. The chicken pasta salad had good flavor but no chicken. My dad got the ribs, honey wings and brisket and said they were all great, especially the honey wings. He said the honey wings had great flavor, just the right amount of batter and crisp. My mom got the cornbread salad but there wasn't any cornbread in it. For dessert they had the buttermilk pie and I had the buttermilk crunch. Food is great. Service is good but the front of house staff needs to work better as a team. When the hostess sat us, our server was in the process of closing out a 8 person table. As a result, she didn't greet us for approximately 15 minutes until I asked the hostess who was supposed to be taking care of us. She promptly came over right after she dropped off the checks at the other table and apologized for the wait. At the end of our meal, the manager came to check on us and gave us free dessert for the delay. We were appreciative of this gesture! All of this would have been a mute point if either the hostess or the server right next to us would have acknowledged us and got our drink order to help our server out while she was closing out her other table. The food is good the service is quick I like everything I've ever had there (except not the cornbread salad because it's literally salad with cornbread in it and to me, that isn't cornbread salad lol).
