The food is good the service is quick I like everything I've ever had there (except not the cornbread salad because it's literally salad with cornbread in it and to me, that isn't cornbread salad lol). We were meeting family for dinner and were looking for a place that took reservations and that would appeal to a variety of tastes. Mark's Feed Store met the requirements and exceeded our expectations. The food and the service were both exceptional. The various members of our party ordered a variety of entrees and all were excellent. Personally, I had the beef brisket dinner which came with 2 sides -- 1 was an excellent burgoo (gumbo) and for my second side -- as always - I had fries. My wife had the same basic order but ordered the sweet potato fries which were seasoned with some cinamon sugar. Others tried the ribs which they reported as excellent - the chicken, ribs, brisket combo (also excellent). Mark's also serves "Sho'nuff", a local brew from Against the Grain Brewing, a local Louisville brewery. The Sho'nuff was served in a 1 pint can and was also excellent. read more

We hit up Mark's on the way back to DC from Louisville. Overall, a great local chain with good, friendly service and pretty good food at a decent price(little pricey for Louisville though). Two entrees, two apps, root beers, and some sauces to go plus tip put me back around $50ish. I would give the BBQ 3.5 stars. The sauce on the ribs was a little too sweet for my taste and I think the ribs could have been smoked longer. However, I loved the green beans and sweet potato fries. What really did me in was the cornbread (with Burgoo), and the honeywings were to die for. Sweet and crispy and oh so juicy. My companion enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich(huge), which paired better with the sauces than my ribs. Extra points for having IBC root beer. All in all, a great find in Louisville! read more

I'm not a big BBQ food fan but when I'm craving some, I know exactly where I needed to go my last night in Louisville. I have enjoyed eating at Mark's Feed Store over the years. I have been to this location as well as the Bardstown Road local and I have eaten it catered at the university where I used to work. It has always been yummy. I ordered the HoneywingsTM Dinner which includes 13 wings, honey sauce on the side, and the sides I picked were the onion straws and green beans. The wings were crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The honey sauce is a mixture of honey and hot sauce. Tasty but better as a side. I don't like the wings dripping with the sauce. The green beans were porky goodness. They had lots of shredded pork in them. The onion straws were lightly floured, crispy and delicious. My brother ordered the Full Slab Dinner and I convinced him to share by offering up a few of my wings. These are very good ribs. Very tender and the sauce is sweet, thick and finger licking good (wait, not reviewing KFC here, oops). My niece ordered the children's chicken tenders and fries and proceeded to devour some of the ribs, my wings and ice cream. I don't know where she packs it all. Monday night is a great night to go to Mark's as it's FREE DESSERT NIGHT!!! Yes, you heard me right! I got a slice of the Homemade Buttermilk Pie to go. I have had it before so I know it's good but I ended up not having room to eat it so it flew back with me to Orlando and is at home waiting for me to sink my teeth into it. I'm saving the best for last....the Burgoo!!!! I LOVE this stuff! For those who are not from Kentucky, Burgoo is a stew made from meats, veggies and spices and slow cooked until the meat falls apart. My holiday trip to Louisville couldn't be completed without a stop at Mark's! I'm sure there are many amazing things on the menu, but I can't tear myself away from those Honey Wings! They are divine! Fall-off-the-bone tender, crispy on the outside, and that honey glaze- to die for! I'm not huge on dessert, but also recommend the Buttermilk Pie or it's distant cousin, the Buttermilk Crunch Shake. Fried corn on the cob, and a very generous side salad w/BBQ ranch usually complete my visit. Don't sleep on the ribs, cornbread or brisket though! Ordered takeout on July 4th. Food was hot and there immediately when we picked it up. I love Marks Feed Store but the 1 lb of brisket we ordered was about 1/4 lb of meat and 3/4 fat. My new favorite for BBQ in Louisville! I stopped in for lunch for my first ever visit to Mark's and I can definitely say that it won't be my last. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with red potato salad, green beans and a small side of coleslaw to go on top of my sandwich. Everything was very good! I had my sandwich come out with Mark's original bbq sauce on it. I took a bite and it was good. I then added some of Mark's red bbq sauce to it and made it even better. Then after sampling the coleslaw and giving it a thumbs up, I added it to my sandwich as well. This put my sandwich into the very delicious category! My sides were very good too. Especially the red potato salad. Possibly the best I've had! My service experience here was awesome! Smiles from everyone and talk about fast service! Holy crap BBQ fans! This local chain of 4 Louisville rib joints is really, really good. Picked up enough food for 2 nights in a hotel room w/a microwave and a fridge. Tasted all 4 sides (green beans, baked beans, sweet potato, coleslaw) and they were all great. Got 2 full racks of Baby Back ribs and finished a full rack in about 10 minutes flat. The original sauce (mustard colored) was the perfect tangy tag-team to the hot red bbq sauce. Double-dipped the ribs in one sauce after another, just like I used to do as a kid with Chicken McNuggets in Sweet And Sour then Barbeque... Baby Back ribs ARE my favorite. I've been distracted by the St. Louis cut of rib lately, but after this outing it will be my definitive choice from now on. When I want ribs, I want Baby Backs. Mark's ribs are a smidge fattier than my favorite Baby Backs in Colorado at Rusty's Hickory House (Aspen). Rusty's serves only right-side ribs from tulip-fed Danish pigs. Four of us were visiting the area for a few days and were told by some others that we had to give this place a try while in town. We were very glad we did too! The food was excellent and the service was prompt and friendly. We each ordered platters with various things and shared a little so we could try most of their main food items. Everything I tried (Pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and wings) were all tasty, moist and tender. They provide four different BBQ sauces too and I sampled each and found them all to be very good. The cole slaw wasn't as sweet as I like but it wasn't bad at all. The corn muffins were excellent and we could have filled up on those alone if our dinners hadn't been so prompt. Come hungry, wear loose pants, and save room for dessert! This is a great BBQ joint. Mark's kept me from starving when I was an intern in Louisville in 2005. They have free dessert (with meal purchase) on Mondays, which just can't be beat. I legitimately visited this restaurant every week for a year during my internship. While I've never been unhappy with anything I've eaten there (and I've tried most of it), I had the pulled pork sandwich with green beans at my most recent visit. I'm pretty sure I died and went to pulled pork heaven. The sandwich with one side is plenty of food (and I didn't eat much of the bun, as I was saving myself for my true love: dessert). The table sauces are really good, and there are several options (I like the sweet). The green beans are flavorful, made with pork (not gross), and not overly oily. Honestly- so good. Dessert needs its own paragraph. If you didn't save room for dessert, TOO BAD. SUCK IT UP, CUPCAKE! Don't waste your time with the menu. Get the Buttercrunch Sundae. I'm pretty sure they put crack in it. I've had the pie by itself, and didn't care for it... it's legitimately TOO SWEET without the ice cream, caramel, and peanuts to cut it. As a sundae... it's seriously the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. It was everything I remember from 2005 and more. Thank you, Mark's, for making sure I will never be able to give up carbs. On this occasion, I arrived late in the lunch hour (1p) on a Friday. I was seated and greeted immediately. I had tea in 5 minutes, food in 10, and I was done in 30 minutes. My server was efficient, friendly, and couldn't have been better. The prices are reasonable ($19 including a good tip for tea, sandwich, side, and dessert), the restaurant looks every bit as good (country theme) as it did 10 years ago, and (in case you can't tell), and I will be returning EVERY time I go through Louisville. Dinner at Mark's Feed Store was excellent last night! I had been to Mark's once before and came away skeptical and unimpressed, but upon further review, I was wrong. I think my problem is that I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and they generally all taste the same, dependent on the sauce, regardless of which restaurant I'm at. So I came away feeling Mark's was overpriced for something that wasn't special and I didn't return for a couple years. Update - I'm an idiot! First, they're sauces are top notch - some of the best BBQ sauces I've had and they complement any of the smoked meats very well. Secondly, I discovered that this place has a lot of value and they're prices are competitive for what you get - big portions and generous sides, with great service. Lastly, dessert is free on Mondays (or buttermilk pie always is free with a Yelp check-in) - huge added value! I ordered the Honey Wings meal ($12.59) with Corn on the Cob, Mac and Cheese, and Buttermilk Crunch for dessert. The Wings were some of my favorites - 10-12 wings crisped to perfection with a sweet and sour honey glaze and substantial chunks of meat on the bone. I usually can't fill up when I order wings as my meal, but this is an exception. The sides were good as well, but the wings were the highlight for me. The Buttermilk Crunch dessert was phenomenal! It's essentially a slice of Buttermilk Pie stuffed into a Sundae glass and topped with Ice Cream and Caramel, and it was free! The service was excellent from the hostesses, to our waitress, to the manager checking in to make sure everything was good. Everyone was friendly, warm, and welcoming. I love bbq. Mark's has been here for years. They are family friendly and have everything you want n a bbq menu. The problem I have is the bbq pork, which is my favorite - usually. For some reason, Mark's pulled pork is consistently dry. I go back a couple of times a year and it's been that way for several years now. The service is good and I love their onion straws and their buttermilk pie. But I go to a bbq place for the bbq. Maybe it's "healthier" or something like that? Oh man, I LOVED Mark's feed store when it first arrived in Louisville years ago. Over time, it' just got worst and better alternatives popped up. I went back to Mark's after years of avoiding it mostly out of nostalgia this weekend. Oh my how it's fallen. We love fried dill pickles, ours, well burnt and tasted like the fryer. Would not recommend. Our Brisket, well done, pretty all all burnt ... not the burnt ends, just tough and the consistently of Jerky. Will I return, hopefully not. The place was a strong four. I ordered a combo that had a good sample of their best. Their ribs were quite good, the wings had really good flavor as well. Oddly enough the worst food in the combo was their bbq, which I found pretty dry and lacking in much flavor. The brisket had a good taste but was a bit dry as well, they did have some decent bbq sauces to wake it up a bit. The combo came with two sides, I chose the sweet potato fries and corn on the cob, the corn was pretty good with a little added salt but I wouldn't recommend the fries.
