Breakfast buffet this morning was gross. Food had been out to long and was cold. Pancakes where rock hard. Manger needs to be replaced as she showed no concern. If the food inspector would have been present there is a good chance it would have been shut down The music was very loud. I thought I was at a rock concert. Nice stop if you can't wait the extra hour to get to Sioux Falls. Pretty quiet between the Friday lunch bunch and the dinner crowd. What is lacking in ambience is made up in service which was quick and friendly. Pretty standard fare for a highway stop. Breakfast 24/7, burgers, Sammie's and wraps. Had the patty melt. Very hot and juicy on real rye. Best patty melt I had in a while. Recommend as a good stopping place! read more

We were passing through Mitchell, so maybe it was an unusual experience. We went for an early dinner. Not many folks in restaurant. After a very long wait we asked the waitress about our order. She did not appear very patient when she said "the second cook isn't here yet". Our food arrived 5 minutes later. I would give the quality a 2 out of 5. My son's burger was so so and my chicken was about the same. Probably pre-frozen vegetables and pre-frozen sauce. read more

You can call it an "upper class truck stop"... Went around 8pm on a Sunday evening, waitress had black teeth, well what few she had, her clothing was dirty, glasses dirty..her personality was of someone on crack. Asked for coffee...came in a dirty cup, got new cup...never got a refill for the whole 11/2 hours. I ordered the shrimp basket. Shrimp was hard, and cold, toast was burnt black! And still served to me. Asked for coffee refill, never got it. My companion, ordered a taco salad. Meat was cold, lettece was yellow and had a foul smell. Sent it back, (lady next to us ordered a taco salad and also sent it back) she replaced it with hamburger steak,...overcooked...was never asked in the first place how she wanted it. Broccoli was hard,... About the only good thing...it has an old gas pump for decoration. Do yourself a favor, pass it by, unless you like the "dirty spoon" truck stop food & questionable waitresses. read more

I was just passing by on my long cross-country trip from MSP to Portland. A decent little small cafe connected to a gas station. I was very surprise with this place. The menu had a good choice of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The place is clean, the service is good, the portions are huge, and the prices are right. What impresses me most: the kitchen and wait staffs are completely coordinated. I've been to many small town diners and this place has it down. Nothing fancy here, but full of heart and no skimming on the amount of food they give you. read more

This was as disaster. We were on a 2000 mile roadtrip, and before we bedded down in the RV for the night I wanted something hot and tasty to help me drift off to sleep. We stopped in and saw two athletic school buses outside. Well, no issues, it's a 24/7 facility, so I'm sure they have ample staff. I was wrong. We waited for over an hour for our order to be taken, and I was so tired I didn't feel like venturing out to find another eatery. The meal took forever to make, the food was good, but not exactly what we ordered and after finishing half of it I had to call it a day. After 16 hours of driving this was NOT the way I wanted to end the day. Should have gotten something in the gas station next door and gave up. We won't make that same mistake again. read more

Great little diner/truck stop restaurant. Good food, good service, and very clean! The manager checked in several times to ask how our hunt was going, etc. (I.e. in town for pheasant hunting). Breakfast buffet for $8.99 was really quite amazing. Potatoes, biscuits, gravy, french toast sticks. Great coffee in huge mugs... would definitely recommend checking it out if you are in town! I was staying in Michelle for a week on business. Thought I would this place a try for breakfast. First off, don't order a large orange juice as it's like a quart jug! Ordered the ham & cheese omelette well done with has browns. I have to say that the omelette was really good for not being prepared as I like. The has browns were extremely crispy and dry. Couldn't eat them. Servers had the same hair style, kinda funny. Would I go back, yes but will instruct them to not overcook the hash browns. read more

As soon as we walked in the person seating us informed us that a cook did not show up for work today and there would be about 20 minute ticket times. With our hotel right next door we were in no rush so it was fine. The food came out faster than any of us expected. But the wait staff was anything but fast. I sat waiting for a refill of cherry Pepsi for about 10 minutes. Every waitress walked passed me at least 3 times a minute to clean off other tables and mine was no where to be seen. I finally had to flag down what seemed to be the manager to get a refill. The TVs they had were on infomercials and not interesting. I had the opportunity to listen to all of the staffs drama as I waited for my parents to finish their meal. Over all they need to work on organization of their restaurant. And retraining some of their staff. read more

This place has cool ambiance but that's the big highlight for me. The waitresses looked all under 16 years old. They didn't know too much about the menu. They really push soda pop when you try to order. We ordered a turkey melt and it was average at best. I don't know what happened to this place. It used to be fantastic; food always arrived timely & correct and waitstaff on top of things. But the worm has turned. I went there two weeks ago for 1/2 price burger Monday. Was seated (by the hostess) at a table and then sat there for 20 minutes without any waitstaff even acknowledging me. Just as I got up to leave, someone came to the table and told me to have a seat the burgers would be really fast. OK, the burgers may have been fast but the service was definitely not. Then I went last night - again for 1/2 price burger Monday - and was seated with waitress arriving at my booth within 5 minutes. Ordered a shake while I waited for my date to show up. Ordered a burger & onion rings, which then took 35 minutes to arrive. When it did arrive, it was wrong (missing bacon.). Waitress said she would have the manager stop but our table and explain the huge delay. Manager never showed. Couldn't help but also notice that our waitress removed her name tag when she came back to the table. My advice is to avoid this place. Management or something has gone off the rails and it isn't what it used to be. read more

The breakfast options in Mitchell are not very vast, so my husband and I came to Marlin's. I ordered the eggs and bacon with a blueberry muffin, he got the biscuits and gravy with eggs and hash browns. My eggs were perfectly cooked over-easy and the bacon, while very thin, was decent. The muffin was tasty. The hash browns were a bit too buttery for my taste, but my husband liked them just fine. We would return for the excellent service we received from Vanna, the waitress. She was quick and efficient and incredibly friendly. Plus, they had a decent cup of coffee. The only thing I'd request is that they offer a side of fruit as an option instead of just potatoes. read more

Stopped at Marlins in Mitchell after having the best Banana nut french toast in Rapid City! This time the inside was gooey and lacking the flavor I had previously! Cornbread Benedict was great with smothered skillet potato's. Service was mediocre. Was bothered that with a mostly empty restaurant people were sat next to each other instead of leaving booths in between for distancing, and it was not because they lacked servers because there were several! The food is great - if you have time to wait for it. Took a l-o-n-g time. There were quite a few people in the restaurant but LOTS of empty tables so I was confused why we had to wait so long for our food. Not just us, other people too. My grandson's food came & he was almost done by the time my husband & I got our food. I had to ask that they clean off the syrup dispenser because the handle was so sticky I couldn't use it. Stopped at Marlins after visiting the Corn Palace. The staff was very inattentive. Stood at the front waiting to be seated for at least 10 minutes. Mind you there was no line. Just waitresses and bus boys standing at the server area. They would glance over but no one seemed to want to take responsibility for seating guests. Only after we were seated and given our drinks were we told it would be at least 45 minutes until the food would be done due to a "training" issue. I guess when someone is training it means no one is there to supervise? Underwhelmed by food both in appearance and quality. Maybe we just showed up on an off day, but with an all teenager staff it doesn't seem likely. Would not recommend. Go to Ruby Tuesday's which is right across the street instead. read more

Really good food. I'm a trucker so I've eaten all over the United States, and this by far has to be one of the best little restraunts I've stopped at. The waitress, Sheila, was amazing. I think it was so packed for breakfast because it was one of the few places open. I had the breakfast buffet which looked promising but failed miserably. The eggs had a very strange flavor and I generally don't have a problem with scrambled eggs but these were not edible. The pancakes were dry and served with packaged syrup. Biscuits were ok but the gravy mix was packaged. Worst of all the coffee was weak, so weak I needed to drink twice as much for the same caffeine effect as like breakfast joints. Also keep in mind when you order oj specify a size or they will give you a pint. read more
