Tickets are inexpensive, there's not a bad seat in the house, and it's easy to get involved as a volunteer or an actor with 5-6 shows running throughout the year.

Ask questions, there's a great story behind everything. As for the performances, colorful, unique and fun. The actors and actresses here are talented. However crowded theatres get in downtown Chicago, and however surly their employees can be at times, the Paramount is the opposite on both counts. What a breath of fresh air! Better yet, the sightlines are terrific. Even in the very back, you have a great view of the stage, and the seats' heights are staggered enough where short people's views aren't easily blocked. Although the Paramount is quite far from where I live, so it's not a super frequent visit for me, that is not due to any lack of quality in terms of the experience or shows!

Definitely a must see and volunteer!!! They do have a small bar in the theater but also partner with the next door restaurant and you can order from your seat and have it brought to you. I've been involved with Allegro Performing Arts center for about a year and a half, attending adult…read moreballet classes as well as a few other dance classes (tap and contemporary). I've also been involved in a few of their productions. The location is easy-to-find with ample parking right in front of the building. The inside is clean, well-maintained, and has 2 studios spaces (one large, one medium-sized) plus a couple lounge areas, one of which is used for music lessons and as a waiting area for clients and parents. The large studio has plenty of room to accommodate many dancers, adequate vertical space for leaps and jumps, very sturdy barres, and a comfortable, marley-covered floor. Though I have experience in music and am rhythmically capable, I was completely new to ballet when I started here. Heather's experience in the ballet world and in teaching the methods become apparent right away. She provides instructions that are very clear and offers cues that help to easily address form issues. Between exercises, she'll share the history of the movements and techniques, the origin of the words and phrasings, and the anatomy/kinesiology and physics behind the movements. This makes the class very interesting to me. She's also able to accommodate everyone in the class regardless of ability level, providing individual instruction equally among the dancers. Heather's great at assigning challenging routines that are just at the top of my abilities so that I'm pushed towards improvement. Ballet is physically demanding no doubt, but a lot of the difficulty for me comes from the mental and memory aspects of learning a routine. It is hard work, and I find it very rewarding. During my time with the studio, I've been given the opportunity to perform in a couple of their productions. It's great to be able to put all that hard work into a final product that my family and friends can enjoy! It's also wonderful to be able to do this alongside her other students and company members as a team. I've witnessed firsthand that this studio forges hard-working young individuals who learn to take criticism as opportunity for improvement, work hard for results, and take pride in their accomplishments.

With two locations in Yorkville, the facilities are easily accessible to families in Yorkville and in surrounding communities. Both of my daughters have participated in the tumbling program. My older child started tumbling at an older age, and YPAC welcomed her and built both her strength and confidence. The teachers are knowledgeable in proper form and safety. My youngest started in a parent/child class, Pre-COVID. It was more of an open gym/exploratory class, which was a fun introduction to tumbling. We just started back after a break for COVID, and the facility remains impressive. My now the year old jumped right in to participate, which impressed me. The teachers are obviously experienced with younger children. The facility has a great plan on place to safely check children in without a lot of close contact and traffic through the building, and parents can still watch class via Zoom. Prices are a little high- billing is monthly, and there is also an annual membership fee. I do believe that there are some scholarships available.

My experience with YPAC is with the one week performing arts camp (Monday through Friday) designed…read morearound tryouts for a play/musical on the first day and culminating in a performance on Friday evening. Every child enrolled in the camp (which I believe cost $500) is guaranteed a role in the play. I recently attended the Friday night performance for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. There were only 10 children enrolled in the camp. The show chosen had 6 speaking roles, and 4 non-speaking roles. The participants in non-speaking roles were infrequently on the stage singing and dancing. Didn't have so much as one line in the whole show. Which meant they spent much of the week leading up to the show sitting around watching the others practice. Not exactly what the camp offered or was paid for. It would seem to me that a better show could have been chosen to allow fuller participation for all the camp enrollees. I understand that in any play some are cast in larger roles than others. However, the secret to a good theater camp is to figure out how to utilize ALL the kids to make them feel like full participants. There are much better theater camps out there. I would recommend skipping this one.

Went there to see a Fever Candlelight string quartet doing songs from Coldplay. Great experience…read moreoverall. The quartet was outstanding. I know Coldplay songs pretty well, and nobody in the quartet missed a single note all night. The concert is only a bit over an hour, but it's really good. Very nice setting. The hall is gorgeous and the sound was fantastic. I did not have a drink or something to eat, but a cup of wine was $10, just saying. They scan your tickets pretty quickly once the doors open, and the workers are pretty helpful. Easy to get to, plenty of parking nearby. We found street parking less than one block away from the entrance. The string quartet is highly talented, and also gives a little insight on some of the songs. I really enjoyed that part. I think it was reasonable priced, and a great venue to boot.
