When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.

They were able to come out within two days, while every other company I contacted quoted two to three weeks just to get an appointment. The person I spoke with on the phone was incredibly kind and understanding. They kept me informed, called to let me know the technician was on the way, and even texted me a photo of the technician beforehand, which I really appreciated for safety and peace of mind. The technician who arrived was very nice, professional, and extremely helpful. The entire experience was smooth and stress-free. Since the visit, my furnace has been running quietly with no more strange noises. Best of all, the maintenance service was under $200, which felt very reasonable given the quick response and quality of service. I'm so grateful they were able to help on such short notice and would absolutely recommend them.

We had what I now learned from a non-local family friend was a simple backflow preventer failure. The friend ball parked it around $500-600 max, and that was with up to 2 hours of time taken. This company charged me $1300 for an hour of time with a single part being replaced. Similar parts are available online for $150 (and I assume they get parts even cheaper). My family is leaving town this weekend and I wanted to ensure this got fixed (but it was not an emergency call), so I didn't take time to vet out other contractors. I regret that, and have learned my lesson. Thanks F.F. Hitchcock. The Tech who visited was professional / explained things well. I'm not sure who sets the price, so if he had nothing to do with it, then this feedback should strictly go against F.F. Hitchcock's pricing structure. I reached out to F.F. Hitchcock a couple of hours after the service was performed, but so far have not received a response 2 days later. Do yourself a favor, find another company to service your plumbing / hvac.
