I found Katrina from Married to Massage via reading Reddit threads about TMJ massage. I had also read about how intense it could be, so I had an idea of what I was getting myself into. It was very easy to book a massage online and pay via Vagaro. Apparently it is a new system that Katrina is using. I selected a 60 minute TMJ massage which is really a 50 minute full body massage with 10 minutes dedicated to the TMJ because it is so intense. I received emails to confirm my appointment, as well as some helpful tips, such as there being free parking right in front of the building (it is a tiny lot). Initially we had parked on the street but read our email for that parking lot detail. I had arrived about 10-15 minutes earlier than my appointment, but Katrina saw I was outside, so she welcomed me in. The massage place is pretty small and is a cozy setup, so it's requested that you ring the doorbell to be let in. When I walked in, to the left is the massage room. There was also a bathroom in the back, but I'm not sure what the other space is for. Katrina reviewed my massage preferences (filled out online ahead of time) including pressure level. She also asked if I had ever had a TMJ massage before, as it is described as intense. Katrina seemed to know the areas I was tense in and put in a lot of work for those areas. Once the full body massage was completed, she asked if I was ready for TMJ massage. She advised to breathe through the massage. Basically she applied pressure to each side of the upper jaw three times (which is typical if it is tolerated, but she can also do two times if it is not as tolerated) with gloved hands. I would say it is a very solid 7/10 pain, and she said it was good that I didn't cry, scream, or bite haha. I will admit that I had some involuntary tears, but it was not much really. It was painful, but it was a good kind of pain, as I felt my jaw relaxed in a way that I hadn't felt before. She made sure to check in with me to see if it was ok to keep going. She also made sure that the muscles surrounding the jaws didn't tense up as she was doing the TMJ massage, as it is all interconnected. I felt like there was a bit of "tearing" on the inside of the upper jaw (between the gum and cheek) where she applied pressure...I probably had some sort of scar tissue or something there to begin with that was loosened up. She advised to also apply a warm compress if I was really sore afterwards. I felt a bit of post massage soreness, and I can say that several days after having TMJ massage, I still feel my jaw is pretty relaxed. Overall, Katrina did great work on my TMJ and she was very friendly, easy to talk to, and did a wonderful job of explaining the process. I'm sure she explains TMJ massage a million times before, but she was so patient in doing so for me. I would highly recommend Katrina from Married to Massage! read more

Katrina provided the massage I've ever had, hands-down (ha!). I like very firm pressure during bodywork, and she didn't disappoint in that regard. When I arrived, Katrina asked questions about the areas in which I had pain or tightness, and focused on those spots, though not to the exclusion of other areas. She released knots I didn't even know I had! In addition, I've struggled with TMJ issues from jaw clenching for a long time. Katrina performed intra-oral muscle work that made my jaw feel less "clenched" than it has in years and that stopped the "popping" that happened almost every time I opened my mouth. I had no idea that this kind of massage was a "thing," and while it wasn't pleasant (Katrina warned me about this part of the massage in advance and checked in with me throughout to see if I needed to take a break or stop), it was incredibly effective. Combined with the heavenly "regular" massage, I feel physically better and more relaxed than I have in a long time. I'll definitely go back to Katrina at Married to Massage when life and stress start to take a physical toll again! read more

At first I was skeptical of all the good reviews but Katrina is the real deal. Booking online is super easy, and you get a reminder text and email which is nice. This place has a parking lot which is rarely the case in midtown. The building is tucked away from the street, it's right before Antique Midtown, the beautiful building with stained glass. I hold a lot of tension in my shoulders and my neck. and I almost asked Katrina to use more pressure but I'm so glad I didn't, I was so sore the next day. But sore in the good way where all the tension was worked out. I've had massages before where masseuse used a lot of pressure to get the kinks out, it isn't as relaxing because it sort of hurts. That was not the case with Katrina. It didn't feel like she was using a ton of pressure but she definitely did some work because I felt it the next day. I saw Katrina on Saturday 7/30 for a Full body massage with a TMJ massage add on since I've been suffering with it for quite a while. Katrina made me feel very relaxed and in fact I actually fell asleep for a bit which never happens to me during a massage. The TMJ portion was intense but an instant relief. So good! My wife had come here for a couple prenatal massages and had a very good experience, so I booked 60 minutes for fathers day. Katrina is clearly very skilled. Far from a generic going-through-the-motions massage, you can tell she's feeling out tension points and other issues as she goes. The result is about as effective and relaxing as you could hope. I'm so glad I found Katrina! She's fantastic! I have chronic shoulder/neck pain and after a massage by Katrina I always feel like I have a brand new body. It is magical to stand up after the session and realize I no longer have any aches, pains or pinched nerves. She also helped me through some severe hip pain I was having after the birth of my second baby. Every day I was living with pain in my left hip (from holding the baby/toddler on that side I think). I was having trouble walking, exercising, even sleeping ... because the burning pain would wake me up in the night. It was constant and no amount of stretching would help. I couldn't run or jog at all for over a year. I thought the burning pain was permanent and I would never be able to heal it. I finally came in for an appointment and mentioned it to her. She did deep tissue work in my hip/leg area (it was moderately painful) but the relief afterward was instantaneous! She told me I had muscle knots everywhere under my hip and up the side of my leg.
