One of the worst wait staffs I've ever come across. Our waitress refused to check what type of muffins they had that day. We literally waited over an hour for breakfast. Unfortunately not a positive experience. Not horrible, just not what was expected of a fine hotel. Specifically, the Carbonara was heavy to the extreme with guanciale drippings and the steak frites was dry, although cooked properly. The biggest fail was the meal itself. The "chicken with linguine" was served with a large piece of provolone over the top - which wasn't in the menu description and essentially turned the entree into a heavy Chicken Parmesan. The vegetables with the salmon entree were fine but the fish was overcooked. We didn't try the $12 desserts. The service was disjointed - we had to seek out someone to seat us despite having a reservation, the person who took our order was different than the person who delivered it and no one came back to check on us. We finally hunted down someone for the check and couldn't wait to leave. It just felt dismal. Finally, the restaurant isn't a cool throw back tavern in a high end resort - it's a clean place with a bar and sports on the television. Now that we know that's what we were getting, I can tell you the food, service and enjoyment would have been 10X better at Lost Marble Brewing Company down the street. Lunch here was delicious on a beautiful October day. We came because outside seating is available, and they are very Covid conscious. The tables on a front deck faced Main Street. We had a pleasant view of the courthouse, a church, and a war statue. Delightful! The service was professional and attentive. Servers wore masks. I had the Carolina Barbecue Pulled Pork Quesadilla with house-made fresh pico. I liked the mustardy flavor of the Carolina pork, and there was plenty of flavorful, tangy sauce on the pork. The pork was tender which was critical. It was served in a fresh wrap. My husband started with a bowl of Seafood Chowder which he rated exceptionally delicious. It was chunky enough in a very flavorful creamy base. He ordered the Burger on a Brioche Roll, and he said it was excellent! He enjoyed every bite. The caramelized onions ($2.00 extra), sautéed mushrooms, and cheddar added nuanced layers of flavor. Even the fries were good because they were hand cut. Marsh Tavern is old school classy, so the plentiful napkins were off course white cloth. The rest room was immaculate! Enjoyed a nice lunch outside. We both got salads with chicken on them & they were very good & a great-sized portion. I enjoyed some wine with it & it was a lovely atmosphere. I had a reservation at the marsh tavern but I received duck pot pie with no duck peas or carrots. 9:29 restaurant is still filled. The only reason I am not giving it five stars is simply because of the unfortunate understaffing (as most places are experiencing) resulting in dirty dishes etc taking over the tables on porch etc. I'd like to point out that the lovely bar tender was literally busting her butt, being courteous and doing the best she could serving the back and front of the house with limited glassware and ice. Okay, so.... This seemingly entitled guest (man) rudely interrupts her demanding ice for his bucket and when she calmly respectfully declines his request, he verbally walks off speaking expletives as if he were someone special. Fortunately he made an ass of himself and everyone else boosted her moral encouraging and applauding her service. You know, I would like to remind everyone that yes times are challenging but civility and patience are noted and if you can't be kind, then get out. NO ONE deserves that kind of disrespect. Sit by the wonderfully cozy fireplace In the creamy leather high-back chairs if you can! Warm, elegant yet casual, upscale but not pretentious. We had the charcuterie- good variety but on the smaller side, baked Brie w apple butter, and the leek & potatoe bisque. We came here one afternoon while in town. We wanted to check out the Equinox and the history of the tavern. While the drink menu says President Taft was here, don't expect to see a tavern that reflects the history, it's all updated. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly enough but service was somewhat slow. The drinks were good and so was the food, tomato soup, half sandwich and fries. The prices are the same as any other Marriott resort in the country, 2 beers, 2 cocktails, cheese plate, soup/sandwich combo totaled over $75 after tip. read more

Came here with some friends for lunch. My friends ordered sandwiches they said it was good. I like the bread tray. It has mini corn muffin, cheese bread, artisan bread, grapes and of course butter and jam. I had kale salad with nuts. It was okay. We shared desserts. Apple tart and pudding they were delicious. I haven't been back to the Marsh Tavern in a long time so I was excited to take my 3 friends there this past weekend (Sept 23, 2023). I made reservations and planned our day's activities around that. When we got there, the host said that we could sit in the Marsh Tavern or the adjoining Chop House since they had the same menu. We opted for the Chop House. Big mistake. We got seated at a glass top table with upholstered chairs. When I sat down, the cushioned seat offered no support as if it was worn out, and it caused me to be sitting too low for the table. However, all of the tables were occupied, so changing wasn't an option. The selection of food featured more seafood than beef or chicken dishes. When one of my guests (19 year old) didn't like any of the choices, the host brought her a "kiddie" menue which embarrassed her. The food arrived in a timely manner. Three of us ordered the waygu beef burger. The burger, together with the bun and accompanying sauce, was too big and messy to pick up and eat. Two of us opted to use a knife and fork to cut it into manageable pieces to eat rather than trying to tackle it by holding it. But with the hamburger being in a small round plate, it kept sliding across the glass top table every time one attempted to cut it. A cloth table cloth would have eliminated that problem. As a result, we took most of our hamburger home to be able to eat it at a table that was at a comfort height and not covered in glass. When we left, I noticed that the tables and chairs in the Marsh Tavern were made of wood, which I'm sure would have eliminated the sliding plate and sitting too low issue. I would never have described this place as a tavern. It was definitely as good as everyone suggested it would be! The place is full of history as indicated by the past visitors dotted over the backs of the menus. Our host told us 11 presidents had been there over the years as well as some of the unique history to the place (and I quote ... "this place is haunted as hell"). As for the food, oh man. There was the normal pub menu that about half our party ordered from, as well as an extended normal menu with starters and entrees. I had the venison loin which was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth, over a bed of sweet potato mash. We even packed our already full stomachs with the slew of deserts offered up. Our server John was funny and inquisitive about our trip up to Vermont. The servers kept our glasses topped off, and the atmosphere was pheonomenal. We sat at a table for 8 near a roaring fire place that kept us warm on the outside while the beer and wine did the same on the inside. After a long afternoon of teaching, I was looking for a casual place to enjoy some libations and a shareable appetizer. My husband and I walked into the pub at Marsh Tavern and not only enjoyed our 'happy hour meal' but also appreciated the attentive and friendly service from 'Chris'. The warm and cozy pub is perfect to enjoy cocktails, numerous beer selections and a nice choice of casual fare to devour. We loved the Vermont cheese platter with a perfect blend of cheeses, seasonal fruit and a lovely selection of artisanal breads. The pepper jelly was superb and was delighted when Chris told us that they sold it in the gift shop. I highly recommend the Marsh Tavern. The food selection will satisfy any appetite. We stayed at the Equinox during our Vermont fall getaway. It was convenient being right in the hotel and we ended up having both lunch and dinner here on our trip. We did lunch on the pub side. They had a nice selection of local brews. We stuck with the Equinox ale and the Long Trail Ale, which was a favorite of ours during our trip. I had the Tavern Meatloaf Whipped Potatoes, Braised Short Ribs, Sautéed Mushrooms, Brown Ale Sauce and Kris had the Mixed Organic Baby Greens Green Chick Peas, Sweet Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Candied Pecans, Strawberry-Balsamic. We liked them both. The meatloaf was perfect comfort food. Our dinner was in the dining room. This is the original building of the Equinox property and has a history that predates the Revolutionary War. It was cozy and quaint. We had a great dinner here. I had an outstanding bowl of clam chowder to start with. Kris had the Heirloom Tomato Salad with Fresh Mozzarella, Arugula, Purple Basil, EVO, Balsamic Vinegar. The entrees we had were Pan Seared East Coast Halibut Warm Fingerling Salad, Shaved Fennel, Grilled Ramps and Sweet Tomatoes & Braised Spring Lamb Shank Herbed Potato Gnocchi, Baby Vegetables, Wild Mushrooms. I expected more from the main restaurant inside the Equinox. The ambiance is cute and quaint. The food was not good. It had little flavor and was the most bland tasting thing I've had in a long time. I started out with French onion soup, and what came out was a dull dark soup with mounds of flavorless onion chunks. I used copious amounts of salt and pepper to make it respond on my pallet. Following that was a local chicken pot pie. What came out was a bland lackluster bowl of pulled chicken with peas covered in a biscuit cut in two. The breadbasket was the highlight with tasty home made breads and salted butter. You can do much better in this small VT town. Take a drive and eat something good. read more

We made reservations for 1 Pm lunch on Saturday, 11 Oct (it's been completely booked out for the weekend and this was the only slot we got. Waited 20 mins for someone to take our order and an hour and 15 mins after that for an order of chicken pot pie, turkey wrap and kids pasta in butter to Be brought out and the piece de resistance- everything was turkey cold. I got tooth sensitivity eating my wrap. My two very hungry kids (6 and 4 year old boys) were so famished by the end of it that they were running all over the place and it became a menace. I have been coming here every year with my family from Massachusetts for over 20 years since my parents got married here, and the experience is generally very good. Recently, however, the service has been disappointing, especially at our meal today. First, we had to wait a while just for the waitress to take our drink orders. We waited a decent amount of time to also get our food, and even our coffee. When we finally got our coffee, the waitress spilled cream on my shoulders. She was nice but not very apologetic, and the restaurant only comped us two out of four coffees. I would have expected better service given that this is a high-end restaurant, and I thought the two coffees were weak compensation. Hopefully Marsh Tavern will improve its service in the future. read more

Great spot! My boyfriend and I stayed at the Equinox this past weekend and popped into the Marsh Tavern for lunch, after check-in. I was looking for something light and quick but was sucked in by a whole host of delicious foods that left me regretfully full. We sat at the bar and service was prompt, friendly, and very warm. Our server explained every dish as he set it on the bar in front of us. Good wine list & beer selection, mostly bottled. I had the Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc. Before we even ordered our food we were presented with a delicious bread platter including house made hummu and jalapeño jam with (again) homemade naan, a corn biscuit (likely from heaven), and a whole grain bread. Not a good start to a light meal, but totally worth it. I love hummus and this was really incredible hummus. For lunch I had the grilled sweet potato and white bean salad and it was SO good! Perfectly portioned and dressed and it was so flavorful. My boyfriend had the roasted chicken wrap with a cranberry mayo and he loved that too. Overall, this is a great spot for tasty food, quick service, and a bill that's light on the wallet. We will be back next time we visit the Equinox. read more

For such a nice place, the service in this restaurant is awful. The lazy and forgetful waitstaff seems to be imported from a third rate Caribbean resort. They forgot one dish from our order, and when my $15 grilled cheese came out - it was ice cold. I sent it back, and the new one that came out wasn't fully cooked. At least they took the cellophane off of the Kraft Singles before partially grilling it. Sadly they automatically added a 20% gratuity to our bill due to the size of or party, but the incompetent staff that served us deserved about five percent max. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, and some of the dishes we ordered were delicious, but I've gotten better customer service at the Brattleboro Burger King. read more

While not as farm to table as I usually select you'll still find a fresh, hearty meal with complex but well-balanced flavors, an impressive wine list and delicious desserts. We were informed that the Equinox Hotel has new management and is no longer owned by Marriott. Extremely disappointed with our recent dining experience at Marsh Tavern. My husband and I have eaten here numerous times in the past and we always had a wonderful dining experience. We sat at the wooden tables on the front porch. They were stained with no placemats or tablecloths. The table was not cleaned very well as we stood there waiting to be seated. The quality of the food was terrible. I ordered an arugula salad with grilled chicken that was smothered in salad dressing. I had to leave most of it behind. How difficult is it to make a salad? My husband had a bolognese pasta that did not meet his expectations. The bolognese had an extremely large amount of cream in it. We will not be returning to the Marsh Tavern. read more

Truthfully meh. I got married at the Wilburton inn and recalled the mystique of the equinox. When I came back this way- I reserved at the marsh for my first nights dinner thinking I was treating me and my partner to a special dinner and special experience. We got dressed up and it felt like we were walking Into a funeral home. So much space between tables it was really awkward and did not contribute at all to an already lack luster experience. Dinner was penne Bolognese! I could have gotten better from a jar- way too gloppy, and terrible pasta to sauce ratio. We shared it and even between the two of us barely finished the one portion. Had a business dinner at this restaurant and they seated us at one of the tables by the window with the big, highback chairs. Ordered the baked Vermont brie to start, had the organic greens, followed by the special of the day - prime rib with carrots, string beans and au gratin potatoes. It was surprisingly good. My primed rib was pretty big and cooked medium rare, just the way I wanted it. My associate had the braised short ribs which she thought was great and they willingly changed her sides to the same ones I had since she thought it sounded so good. We followed it up with a couple of scoops of ice cream to share, but the ice cream I didn't really care for. Didn't taste homemade. Maybe it's the Vermont style that I'm not used to. Our server was really good, food came out at a great pace and I was just happy with dinner overall. Unlike my Ye Olde Tavern experience the night before. Good ambiance, upgrade from regular pub fare. I wouldn't walk into a tavern expecting a fine-dining experience but this is about as elegant as you'll get in a relaxed, comfortable tavern environment. The Marsh Tavern is a historic spot and carries quite the atmosphere with fireplaces indoors and an outdoor space for admiring the beauty of Southern Vermont. The benefit here is the restaurant is very kid friendly, but still elegant. Let's be honest too that it is attached to the hotel so it's eminently convenient. They serve a very good bread and vegetable platter to start with Vermont butter. I'd recommend the cheese board (all local), their noble manhattans (upgrade to bullet bourbon), and their salmon which is cooked nicely having a crisp on the outside and a medium, juicy interior. Desserts are good too and are made in house. Lastly the service is very kind and personable although can be stretched thin. read more

The food was fresh, well proportioned, and well priced for the quality. I had the cod and pork belly. The cod was fluffy and scrumptious. Our waiter, Chris was fantastic! He was funny and attentive. The worst place I have eaten in. The Wagyu Steak was tough could have gotten better at a cheap dinner in the city. The service was horrible. This was for their New Year Dinner Special. Waitress could not explain the menu which a choice of 4 main entrees. Then in her in capability to explain the menu blurred "Jesus Christ!" Because one of us was asking specifics of the disk. The Chef Consiere came over and said the situation are unacceptable and walked away. One of us had to go to the kitchen to ask for refill of water. I would recommend to stay away from this place.
