I have a cat named George. George has had a problem for all his time with me (12 of his 13 years) with licking the hair off his belly and legs. The first vet I went to in Bristow said maybe he had food allergies and we tried a crazy single novel protein food routine for three months- but it was clear it was not that. It seemed to die down after a time, but every couple of years would flare. The common thought by several vets was that he was anxious (as he got older he got more limited in his appreciation of my husband so prob partially true). He also did not ever travel well in the car although he never seemed to mind the destination even if it was the vet. He was a good patient. Flash forward to about 4 years ago, my vet at the time told me to give him a certain medication all of the time. After two months, much of his hair had grown back, but still from time to time would still lick his hair off ( he started doing the sides of his body where his tongue could reach) . Finally fast forward to Stonewall- they did ask the same types of questions but in conclusion they said he had allergies. I've always thought that since he would get red eyes, and a little redness around his mouth and would itch like crazy esp for an inside cat. After a scheduled 5 day road-trip across the country, they recommended the same medication but in higher doses for the trip since he is an anxious traveller. Well, let me just tell you the strategy and him in a crate in the back of the Jeep worked like a dream. Now in my new place, they have helped me keep a supply of his medicine and I am most appreciative of the effort they put forward to this end. Dr. Kelly is amazing. I took my Shih Tzu to Stonewall veterinarian hospital and I happen to get Dr. Kelly as her doctor. Dr. Kelly was so kind and gave my little Holly a wonderful physical, took her time with the examination and explained everything to me. Later on Holly had a surgery and her teeth cleaned, and the price was phenomenal. It's the first vet that I found in Gainesville. And I can only say that I'm impressed and I thank Dr. Kelly from the bottom of my heart. When I lived in Fairfax, I took my first Shih Tzu to Pender vet. The staff here went above an beyond for me, after finding out my childhood dog past away from a tumor unexpectedly and that I had to drive my 2 cats 8 hours the next morning I called stonewall last minute to get medicine for my cats extreme car anxiety, not only did they get it filled for me they stayed open 25 minutes past close to help me out because I was in a bind. These lovely humans are why this business is so successful, anyone can learn to be a vet but these guys practice the compassion and patience that makes them more than just a vet. read more

Amazing vets! We have been going here for about 2 years and love Dr Kelly. She takes her time and thoroughly explains each concern. We have been taking our pets here for 4 years, since we moved to Gainesville. Happens to be a very convenient location for us. We have had good experiences. We had a senior dog, 18 years, and we could not have gotten better advice and care. Yes, we got 2nd and 3rd opinions when we before we made the final decision. Hmmm, some of the receptionists are too arrogant. Doc was nice and knowledgeable but giving only 1 star as the receptionists are not so honest. Fees change from what was told before coming and once payment is due. Also, comparably they are 2nd most expensive vet in the area based on all the calls i have made. Will not go back. read more

My husband and I got our first dog in June, 2010, and brought him here as a recommendation from the rescue organization. Dr. Fauss has been taking care of our dogs ever since. We have never had a problem in the five years that we have been coming here. Their prices are comparable to other veterinary offices in the area, the staff is always friendly, patient, and kind, and I have never seen the office dirty/messy. Dr. Barnett and Dr. Kelly have each seen our dogs once or twice, and we were equally as happy with them as with Dr. Fauss. We have two German Shepherds, both of which have their own medical issues. One has allergies, and the other gets chronic ear infections in her wonky ear (possible hematoma early in life). Dr. Fauss helped us to understand the issues that we were dealing with, and gave us plenty of information on the symptoms and treatment options. Between the allergies and ear infections, we spent more time here than I believe the average pet owner spends at the vet. Every time we have walked into this office, we have felt welcomed. In November, 2011, we moved 30 minutes away. At that time we tried taking our dogs to veterinary offices that were closer to our new apartment, but we found that we were never as comfortable anywhere else, and, more importantly, our dogs weren't as happy. It was worth it to us to drive the extra miles to continue to have Dr. Fauss and the rest of the Stonewall team take care of our dogs. Unfortunately, we recently moved out of state, and will have to find a new veterinary office. I have a hard time believing that we will find a place that can measure up. I highly recommend Stonewall Veterinary Clinic to every pet owner in the Haymarket/Gainesville area. My parents have been bringing their dog here for four years now, at my recommendation, and their experience has been just as good. read more

The staff is incredibly rude!! I walked in the first time to see if I could get a simple nail trim and schedule an appointment. The old woman at the front desk snapped at me and had a "are you effing serious?" look on her face when I inquired about a nail trim. My dog has black nails and long black furry feet so I like to get a good clip from a vet and trim it at home. I was informed they wouldn't touch or see my dog without a rabies vaccine or an appointment. I was shocked but obliged and asked when the next appointment was. She mockingly laughed and said they were booked for weeks. A nail clipping only takes 5 minutes max. I used to work in a grooming salon so I know. I don't understand why I would need an appointment but whatever. Also the rudeness of the ancient receptionist and the rest of the snobby staff had mr convinced to never bring my business there and I make sure to not let anyone I know take their pets there either. Please do not take your pet to this location! I am warning you! My neighbor's cat went in for an operation and they tied her urinary tube instead! My neighbor noticed her cat unable to use the bathroom and getting sick. I was in tears when I heard this! I only took my dog their once and after I heard that I got my dog out and took it to another vet. read more

This place is Ok. It's convenient to my house and appears to have a decent staff. I don't like that sometimes they take your animal to the back to get work done but don't take you with them. Why not? Excellent practice! I cannot say enough good things about this clinic! I mainly see Dr. Barnett when I take my pets there, she is excellent with lamenesses, but she also has an incredible wealth of knowledge of all things small animal. She's spot on correctly diagnosed two problems on my dogs that were misdiagnosed when I had them down in FL (I live parttime down there). I think they are fairly priced for the northern VA area. They are NOT overly expensive, but they are not cheap. They are fair. What I especially like is that they don't PUSH or MANDATE unnecessary vaccines or dewormings or similar things that your pet doesn't need just in order to make a profit. They will tell you what they recommend. They will test and if your pet needs a dewormer, offer the correct one. They don't just mandate an annual or biannual routine worming whether you like it or not like some places (Aldie Vet in South Riding!!!!) do, just to make a buck. They listen to the owner, they want to educate and work with you. They want the best for your pet but they know we are not all made of money. I find that the staff are all amazing. They are all very knowledgable. You won't find highschool kids working here, no offense to kids. I have serious working breeds and I had to leave my malinois overnight for an operation. He can be naughty and cage aggressive. I would have been worried if anyone didn't understand this and teased or mishandled and worsened the situation. Know what? He came out to me doing a perfect heel and sit with Julie the technician and was completely non-stressed and happy. Professional, pleasant, fairly priced, accommodating, not pressuring to do all the unnecessary routine things if you are against them, they take time to educate, they are top flite vets with excellent technicians, and I've never had anything but excellent treatment. I've even had a few times when I needed medication for my pets and because the owner lived just beyond my neighborhood, she offered to stop by and bring them to my door! WHO does that anymore? I have two dogs who go here. They always have good prices compared to what I hear some other vets charge. One time, my dog cut himself and I called them up. I have been stewing over the rude reception one gets from the either frowning or looking down, busy with something more important than a customer routine that I have noticed for at least the last year. For some reason, I remember smiling faces and welcoming nods when they first moved to the current location. One younger woman who sits far left is "usually" the nicest, and seems to try to be pleasant on most occassions. Again, convenience for grooming and shots take me back there regardless- but I shake my head everytime I experience these frowning faces. Friends, I made the terribly difficult decision to put my cat to sleep this morning after her rough and short struggle with stage four kidney disease. Dr. Nostrandt was wonderfully compassionate, caring, and supportive during this incredibly difficult time, from diagnosis to putting her down, a span of only 28 days. Megan and the staff at Stonewall was unfailingly supportive and kind. I'm a wreck, yet today and throughout the last four weeks I was deeply grateful for the sincere sadness expressed by Dr. Nostrandt and all Stonewall staff on behalf of my poor cat and the struggle she went through with multiple meds, five days in intensive care, and her sudden decline. Dr. Nostrandt was gentle, frank, and empathetic each step of the way. I don't know how vets manage these difficult situations, but let me say, Dr. Nostrandt, while respectfully not trying to alleviate my pain in making this truly heart breaking decision, offered comfort, kindness, patience, and compassion while I walked through this deeply difficult situation. While Dr. Nostrandt didn't take my pain away, indeed, didn't try to do so, she honored my hope, respected my pain, and consoled me in my grief, supporting me once I made the heart breaking decision to let Kaia go, and was deeply compassionate throughout. As clinical veterinary practitioners, vets and their staff have the chance to provide significant and ultimately healing comfort to both animals and their owners...and this is a great blessing to both pets and their loving owners. Few of us have the opportunity to provide a healing balm to the suffering. Dr Nostrandt provided not only healing, but eased my suffering, and what a great goodness that is. Vets and their staff in their own way can be angels on this earth. My deepest thanks go out to Stonewall for their care, support, kindness, and sensitivity during this very painful time. I would NEVER take any of my pets here!!! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER! The Doctors are not as educated / smart as they like to pretend they are and the staff is rude. Here is the LONG list of problems I had with them. And I will admit...I should have found another vet, I don't know why I didn't, but I felt stuck and didn't know what else to do or where else to turn. 1) Misdiagnosed blood in my dog's urine as an "Infection" for 3 MONTHS!!!!!It wasn't an infection at all!!!! It NEVER was an infection. If they would've done what they were supposed to the 1st time: have the patient come in, do a urine sample + exam, they would' ve known, this was not the "typical" infection. They only talked to me OVER THE PHONE & DIDN'T HAVE MY DOG COME IN!!!!!! They had me pick up an antibiotic - that's all. Then for the next 3 months they sucked as much money out of me as possible; exam fees for 3 months, medication for 3 months. Then when I finally put my foot down, they had my dog come in and of course charge emergency exam fee, emergency XRAYS plus emergency same day surgery! For bladder stones. Over 100 bladder stones in my poor dogs bladder!!!! Can you imagine the pain??? The Doctor could not even tell me what kind of stones they were. I asked if the stones could be sent to a lab so that we could figure out something - so that I could protect my dog from that happening in the future. She refused. I asked her to keep the stones because I wanted to see them. She didn't. Really??? Then when I went to pick my dog up after his surgery, the receptionist announced to me & the entire full lobby OH MY GOSH THOSE WERE THE BIGGEST MOST JAGGED STONES WE HAVE EVER SEEN!!! THERE WERE 100 OR MORE!!! YOUR DOG MUST HAVE BEEN IN ALOT OF PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks ALOT you stupid Witch!!! First of all: that was your Doctors error, Second of all: I don't need my business announced to your lobby Third of all: I don't need you to make me feel bad about my dog who is clearly in alot of pain (which I already did by the way) because you all misdiagnosed him FOR THREE MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2) Stonewall let my dog suffer with chronic diarrhea for years without ever trying to find the cause or trying to make him more comfortable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you know how you feel after having a stomach bug & having 3 or 4 days of diarrhea? My dog had diarrhea for years on years on years. But instead of being actually concerned or worried or thinking this was not normal maybe something is causing this - they instead just kept charging me $55. for his bag of prescription food every 6 weeks and about $100. for his "stomach" meds. 3) Stonewall NEVER NEVER NEVER did anything about my dogs seizures. EVER!!!!! They just "documented" it in his chart. Are you kidding me????? WHO THE HECK DOES THAT?????? That is not veterinary care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have since found out from a veterinarian neurologist an MRI should have been done to see if there was something causing the seizures. I was also told that if the seizure is longer than 90 seconds to get him in the car and get to the ER -ASAP!!!!!!!! Do you know some of my dogs seizures were 5 & 6 minutes long & Stonewall was NEVER even the slightest bit concerned about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They NEVER even told me to take him to the ER!!!!!!!!! My dog should have also been on anti-seizure meds and he wasn't!!!!!! 4) Stonewall did 2 bladder surgeries, 3 separate tumor removal surgeries, & a very broken cracked into many pieces abscessed molar removal surgery on my dog not to mention the other thousands of dollars I spent on food, medications, office exams, etc. I also bought pizza for the entire staff several times which was well over $100. I bought subway for them twice which also was over $100, because their staff is so large, I took them breakfast at least 4 times so I would say if I had to just guess off the top of my head with out looking at all my receipts I spent well over $30,000. at Stonewall Vet. No, that's not a typo, I did mean $30,000. When I lost my job and asked them to donate one $55. bag of food - which by the way they probably get for free from the company to sell - THEY REFUSED TO DONATE ONE BAG OF DOG FOOD TO SOMEONE WHO HAD NO INCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY REFUSED TO DONATE A SINGLE BAG OF FOOD FOR A DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REALLY STONEWALL???? You have a client who has spent in excess of 30 grand at your clinic but you can not donate ONE bag of food?????? YOU ARE PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!! Did you even think about that hungry dog??? How could you be so shallow and GREEDY???? YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT THE PETS YOU SEE OR THEIR OWNERS!!!!!!!!! IF YOU DID, YOU WOULDN'T ACT THE WAY YOU DO / DO THE SHADY THINGS YOU DO! My cats have been going here since they were babies. They offered a discount for rescue kitties to be fixed so that was how I first found them (yay for helping with the rescue organizations!!). They have infinite patience with my high-maintenance cat. They call to check on her periodically and do not force me to bring her in just to give an update, which I really appreciate. I can always get in for emergency visits as needed, and the staff is great. Today I took my long-haired cat in for a grooming visit. I asked to have the hair shortened, but not a lion cut for several reasons. They were not sure they could do what I wanted since typically cats are one way or the other, but they did it. I am so thrilled with the results...and so is my cat! She did not act like she had been traumatized either - she seemed more mad about the carrier than about the haircut. They obviously treated her really well and I could not be more thrilled with the grooming visit. Highly recommend this great Vet in the Gainesville/Haymarket area. read more

I agree with Susan L. & Vanessa W. I really can't rate them, 1 star is even to good for them, but you wouldn't be able to see my review if I don't put something. I was an 8 year client of Stonewall Vet. I would take my 3 dogs (now only 2 ) in every month for grooming & a shot for my addison dog. I dropped AT LEAST 200.00- 300.00 there every month for 8 years..They misdiagnosed 1 dog & & she ended up dying. Stonewall said it looked like cancer, we immediately took her to the internal medicine dr.. When they examined her they told us her gullbladder burst & she was suffering, so we had to put her down. That was horrible for us. Two years later my 2 year old dog became very ill. I brought her in to them, but meanwhile was on the phone with the Internal Medicine dr. & the ER explaining her symptoms. They They are (especially the owner) the rudest, uncaring & most unprofessional Vet I have ever dealt with. Convenience isn't worth it. My dogs mean to much to me to risk their well being. If you love your pets, there are many great vets around now. I believe that we don't need to deal with rude, money hungry buisnesses anymore. If we keep these types of people in buisness, we are going to lose the good ones. When a vet shows NO compassion for you sick pet, just the money, it's time to run.....Try Caring Hands in Bristow, they are soooooo compassionate & good, & New Baltimore animal Hospital. The last time I wrote a review was in June 2012. Since then we have lost both of our dogs unexpectedly. For Maggie, we were sent a card AND a call from the vet that last saw her. I cried when I spoke with the vet, she was so caring and did her best to comfort me. Just days ago, on September 18th, I brought my older dog in, Bonni (about 15 years old). They made room to see me and they were extremely compassionate when it was time to let her go. I stayed in the room for about half an hour after my Bonni was gone. They did not once pressure me to leave. By the time I did leave it was after 7pm and when I walked out all the staff said they were sorry and that they were hoping she would pull thru. One of them hugged me which made me cry even more. IF you want a great Veterinary Clinic then THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU. You couldn't ask for a more caring staff. read more

Stopped taking my giant breed dogs here. They listed one of my dogs as aggressive which he is not. He is a Canine Good Citizen who is apprehensive of the vet but in no way aggressive. The vet tech was obviously afraid of him because of his size and judged him because of it. Well we switched vets and he does great with his new vet because they are not shaking in their drawers due to his large size. read more

Extremely please! My dog recently passes away and I was very fortunate to have food Stonewall. I was not very please with my previous vet's office and glad I switched after 10+ years. They took great care of him and made the last 2 years of him life just as wonderful as the first two. I even received a card upon his passing from the entire team! I cried at there thoughtfulness at my time of mourning. Even though he was only there for 2 years they spoke of him like family and main Dr wrote all over the card and even onto the back! I would highly recommend taking your pets here!! They treat them like they would there own 4 legged children! I cannot say thank you enough for all that you did!! read more

Great veterinarians and office staff! I have been bringing my dog here for three years and they are always very helpful, prompt and courteous. The waiting room and offices are clean, staff is professional and prices are reasonable My dog has medical issues and a strong personality but I have always felt that we are both in good hands with Dr. Wilson. She always explains everything in detail and gives me all of the options to me. Do not take your pet here. Their negligence led to the death of my dog. When I contacted them asking for reimbursement of fees I incurred at the emergency vet clinic, in a vain attempt to save my dogs life, they refused. They have been given several chances to make things right. They refuse to admit any liability or wrong doing. I am being portrayed by them as someone who is acting irrationally due to grief caused by the loss of my pet, as well as someone who does not have all the facts. I know several facts. They gave my dog a Lyme shot, to which she had a serious reaction. The vaccine injection site formed a large lump, which required a very invasive surgery in order to remove it. The Lyme vaccine spec sheet states that the shot should not be given to dogs with known allergies. This was in November of 2013. Starting in January 2014, my dog began to have so many issues. She itched and scratched so bad, she could not sleep. She lost hair due to this. Every time I would ask about it being related to the Lyme shot, I was shut down. She developed a fungal infection, and was prescribed Apoquel. After about a month on the Apoquel she became very ill, and was taken to PW Emergency Veterinary clinic. Unfortunately, she developed serious neurological issues, and had to be put down. Stonewall refuses to acknowledge how any of their actions have contributed to this. If you love your pet, do not take them here. I would not have given any stars, but I had to do at least one, so I could post this. read more
