MARTA is the best way to get to and from the airport in Atlanta as it's the local train system. I was pleased to find out that there was this form of public transportation in Atlanta, with a convenient stop at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. We took MARTA from Airport Station, which was super easy to find within the airport. We followed the signs to ground transportation and then there were more signs indicating where MARTA was. And right outside the doors was the train station where we were able to buy our train passes at a kiosk to get to downtown Atlanta. This station is very convenient, and MARTA itself is an affordable transportation method of getting around town. Although it's not as new and updated as other train systems I've been on, it serves its purpose and is easy to navigate, even for those not familiar with the area. Most of the ticket machines were out of service due to "running out of tickets" and most of the gates weren't working so everyone was being funneled through the same one. I try my best to use public transport when visiting a place and usually get super impressed at places that have a system like MARTA. While I see many a complaint, I found the system of trains and buses pretty easy to use while in Atlanta. This airport station is the closet I've ever seen to an airport and that had me pretty happy because I hate the never ending walk in a place I'm not familiar with. This is the "last stop/first stop" southern most point of the Red/Gold lines so you don't have to worry about which side to get on unless your route deviates after the main city. There is an attendant that seems to be specifically here to tell you which side is which, which was nice. We stayed in Downtown Atlanta so it was only about 8 stops away, which was less than 30 min. Very convenient. The cars on the train are laid out well and there is plenty of space if you have baggage with you. The first train we got on reeeeeeeeked of old human urine so we switched and for the rest of the time it was fine. There seemed to be a lot of panhandling in the cars, something I'm used to from living in NYC. It was kind of odd and I'm chalking it up to the fact that people were super friendly (this is the South) but the panhandling was a bit different and more personable so I wouldn't worry about it too much, if you're worried about that sort of thing. Seriously, I can't complain that much about this MARTA station. How can I? It's very convenient for trainer riders, since the station is attached to the outer part of the airport terminal - so convenient. As soon as the train stops, everyone gets off because it's then put out of service. Everyone has the choices of taking the escalator or steps, or take the elevator, down to the ground level. A quick pass through the wide exit gates, which work out great for people schlepping luggage, and then it's off to the races trying to get to wherever they need to go to at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. When MARTA riders enter Airport Station, MARTA employees are usually physically standing near the ticket kiosks, available to answer questions and offer suggestions and directions. Entrance gates are also wide, and the elevator, escalator and the steps up to the second level are visible from the gates. On the second level, a waiting train is usually on the right side. Riders can find out which line the train is traveling on (Red or Gold) after it leaves the station. The wait time for the train leaving the Airport Station is less than 10 minutes. Signage is very clear; if you get lost, you're not even looking at the signs. This station is sometimes not clean, with trash getting dropped and kicked around by so many riders coming through the station. read more

In my travels, Airport MARTA station is by far the most useful. For the economical fee of $2.50, the train drops you off about as close to the terminal as you can get. It only takes you to the domestic terminals though. You will need to take an airport shuttle over to the Maynard Jackson Terminal if you have an international flight. Assuming no delays, the journey to the airport from the most northern rail stations (Doraville or North Springs) could take about 45 minutes. Travelling from the east starting at Indian Creek could take you about 45 minutes with a transfer at Five Points. From the west starting at H.E. Holmes could take something like 30 to 40 minutes with a transfer at Five Points. So basically less than an hour no matter where you start not including your commute to the station and time you wait for the train. The Airport MARTA station itself is laid out kind of weird. I feel like the logistics of the station aren't completely made for airline travelers. It's one single down escalator, one up escalator, and one very slow moving elevator. And the signage for them is very vague if at all. For a traveler with luggage, it can be very frustrating. So if you're reading this review, know that the up escalator is usually on the north end of the station, the elevator is central, and the down escalator is usually on the south end of the station. Steps are available on both ends. There are multiple LARGE turnstiles at the entrance/exit which prove to be pretty convenient. The station also has a Ride Store along with several fare kiosks. This makes it a "breeze" if you need to buy tickets or need help with any issues. So I wrote all that to simply encourage you to take transit to the airport or as MARTA says "take the train to the plane". It's cheaper, not too inconvenient, and it drops you off right where you need to be. read more

The station is usually clean, the ticket machines are easy to use, and there's usually friendly staff around to ask for assistance. Atlanta has a good way getting to and from the airport. It has a train station just outside. MARTA will take you north to downtown and then to other places. Convenient and fast. This is a lot cheaper too. Get on it around the baggage claim. It has signs pointing where to go. There isn't much of a wait. It's the southernmost station so all trains go north. Trains are usually already waiting. Get on either train because both use the same track until they get to downtown. The ride there will only take about 20 minutes or so. Decided to take the Marta to the airport. It's $2.50 one way, so much cheaper than an uber or taxi. It can take a while, depending on which station you get on. The trains themselves are mostly clean, though we did see some homeless people get on and off the train asking for money from the trapped passengers. This station is fairly clean, esp considering the foot traffic it sees. There is fairly good signage directing everyone. Not a huge fan of MARTA and I try avoiding taking MARTA whenever I can, but I had to get to Doraville because my ride ended up not working out. I picked up my baggage from baggage claim and headed over to the MARTA station, which to my surprise -- was not as ratchet as I thought it would be. I purchased my Breeze ticket and got on board the MARTA train. Luckily, my train was already there so I didn't have to wait at all. I'm not sure if they were just MARTA employees going somewhere else but there also happened to be "train attendants" which I thought was pretty interesting. The entire experience was okay -- definitely one of the better MARTA stations but I still have to give this place a 3 because of how mediocre MARTA itself is. I would suggest you understand the different routes before getting on but it's not terribly hard to manage. You can buy a one way or round trip ticket or even one where you can go between the train and bus! It smelled but then again you have a variety of folks traveling with different understandings of hygiene We rode it to the Peachtree exit and took in a few sites before riding it back to the college park station where we parked. Marta is the best way to travel to downtown Atlanta to/from the airport. Upon landing, I look for Marta sign and it was everywhere and easy to find this station. I walked by baggage claims and saw a huge line for taxi... Purchasing tickets on vending machine was pretty straight forward. $2.50 one way plus $1.00 fee. They accept credit card, all you need is to type your billing zip code. To get to Peachtree station in downtown, take gold or red line. Since airport station is the first one, just take a first available. Train came every five minutes or so and I was in downtown in no time. Spoke with several people at conference about convenience of this train, all said "but you get reimbursed if you take a taxi?" Yes, it is true but I didn't have to stand in line for a taxi or stuck in traffic like everyone else did. I felt safe riding Marta and inside the train was very clean. This transit station is very close to baggage claim and only a couple of minutes from the last stop on the tram that goes between terminals. I like not having a lengthy walk like at O'Hare. There are plenty of machines to buy your transit cards and every time I have been there, there have been staff on hand to help tourists understand what they need to do. There are working elevators and escalators so no lugging your bags up and down steps like in NYC. The platform where the trains depart/arrive is wide and signage tells you which train is leaving next (since this is a terminus there is often a train in the station waiting to depart) and how long for the next trains. This is a quick and easy way to get into downtown Atlanta. Most cars on the train have a space near the middle of the train to put bags so look for that when you board. I'd take Marta over a taxi/Uber any day. read more

Get you where you wanna go! This train station is conveniently located adjacent to the baggage claim, up an escalator with clearly marked signage to let you know where you wanna go. Since this station is the terminus for this line, just jump on whichever train has the doors open and looks like it's going to go first. This train took me from the airport to downtown quickly and safely! Things seemed safe, and there was a minimal amount of graffiti on the trains. The trains weren't exactly clean, but they were acceptable. There's not much to this MARTA stop- employees roamed the train and the platform occasionally, and there wasn't much of a wait for the train to depart. read more

If I don't have baggage to check and I'm not traveling for work, MARTA is my preferred transportation method to and from the airport. I've been taking MARTA to the airport regularly for nearly the past 15 years. In recent years, I've been timing my trips. Departing, the time it takes to get from my front door to my gate at the airport using MARTA, takes roughly 1 hour 20 minutes. Arriving, I can physically be back inside my home in under an hour immediately after deplaning. Note these travel times include more than just MARTA (e.g. security, the Plane Train, time to walk to gate, etc.). I use Arts Center Station as my starting point. Once on the train, it takes about 20-22 minutes to travel from Arts Center Station to Airport Station. I've usually never had to wait more than 15, maybe 20, minutes for a train to arrive (or depart from Airport Station). Most trains usually arrive/depart in about 10-15 minutes from the time I step on the platform and wait. For $2.50 per trip (one-way), choosing to take MARTA to and from the airport is an easy decision. The Atlanta Airport Shuttle costs $18.50 one-way and $33 round-trip from Midtown. Atlanta taxis charge a flat rate of $34 per trip from Midtown. Those rates don't include tip. Rides via Lyft and Uber cost even more than that. Airport Station is the southernmost station on the North-South Line. It's easy to get to and hard to miss because it's a terminus. It's one of the top three busiest MARTA stations, behind Five Points Station and neck-and-neck with Lindbergh Center. If you're traveling north from the airport past Lindbergh Center, be sure to choose the correct line (Red or Gold). You may have to switch at Lindbergh. Likewise, if your final destination is east or west, you'll be switching trains at Five Points. Airport Station is located in between the North and South Terminals of the Atlanta airport. This covers all domestic flights and some international flights. If you are departing or arriving from the international terminal (F), you'll have to take a shuttle between the domestic terminal (where the MARTA station is located) and the international terminal. The station has two sets of escalators/stairs on either side of the waiting platform plus an elevator in the middle. Along with Five Points Station, this station seems to almost always have MARTA employees present to direct travelers and answer questions. If you have a roller bag that is fit for airplane carry-on, then it will more than likely also "fit" underneath the MARTA train seats. It's not perfect, but it saves space, especially during peak periods when the train may be crammed. Other than that, the trains really do not have much space for luggage, which is why I do not use MARTA if I am lugging around more than just carry-on baggage. As for safety concerns, I've never felt unsafe in my trips to and from the airport. I have had panhandlers ask me for money or food on the train. Some of my worst experiences with MARTA have actually occurred at the train stations, not on the trains themselves. read more

Living on the line in the past was a great opportunity for me to explore the city; we would go out to different areas of town for dinner or drinks. Visited a friend at the end of July that lives in the Dunwoody area and I wish I would have been knowledgeable about MARTA! I instead rented a car for 2 days ($75) and hardly drove it...you live and you learn. You catch it right at the airport, no airport tram or shuttle and then you get to MARTA. No. There's a door right by baggage claim, that says MARTA, you buy your ticket and you're off. Thank you for being so convenient! It doesn't run 24 hours so that's the only thing you need to be aware of depending on when your flight arrives/departs. I returned my rental early enough where I was able to ride the South Line from Atlanta Airport to North Springs (and back) and it only took 45 minutes one-way. Decided to use the Marta train for the first time. I took the Yellow line from the airport to the Buckhead station. As I sat inside and waited for departure and suddenly this guy who was acting normal outside was now acting a fool. Making racial remarks to an Indian guy and just blurting all sorts of crazy threatening sounding things. I guess his meth or Crack must have kicked in. And this review is for the station right there at the airport. Good signage to find the MARTA station from the arrivals and baggage claim area. There are a number of ticket vending machines right there and if you're coming from the train, perhaps one of the Delta or Southwest ticket kiosks would be useful for you to print your boarding pass. Once you're through the turnstile (touch your Breeze card to the reader), it's a quick escalator or elevator ride to the platform level. Sometimes, there are two trains. The busiest Marta station in the city. The line is parallel with the train that the airport runs to the car rental center. I had to get up early to visit the Marta Ride Store located here due to my card not scanning any longer. I have balance protection so I was able to have my trips transferred to another card. The agent was nice and very kind. She explained what the process was and got what I needed in a timely fashion. Only complaint I have is that she was the only one at the Ride Store. On a Friday morning they really could have had another agent there to assist customers. read more

I have ridden Marta many times before from Indian Creek to the old Ga. Dome. I decided that I was going to take a Megabus trip recently, so I parked my vehicle at airport parking and used the rail system to the Civic ctr. station. Something needs to be done about the vagrants who bypass paying to ride by rushing through behind the paying customers and the homeless and obviously people with mental disorders. One man got on the train at the airport in 30 something degree weather with what appeared to be some cutoff sweatpants that had a very large wet stain in the rear. There needs to be more of a police presence because I don't think anyone feels safe. And for those of us who do not navigate the system regularly more signage for directions is needed. I had to pay for a fare twice because I entered the wrong side of the rail and the Breeze card only allows you to use it twice on a one-way fare, once to enter and once to exit. I and at least two others whose bus arrived late (after10:30pm) on 1/15 had to by the $2.50 one way ticket and an additional $1 for the pass. One fellow was asking other passengers how to catch a specific number bus because there are no clear directions and if you mistakenly enter the wrong side of the terminal you are forced to go to street level and cross the street and pay a second time if you find out once you get to the loading platform. Oh yeah that was a guy on a green bicycle who stopped at the top of the Civic center south entrance and urinated for all to see, there's no fear because there is no consequence. I used to want Marta to expand to my neighborhood but after my latest experience, KEEP MARTA OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD. I want even discuss the loud music one fellow graced us with. The location basically serves it's purpose. I suggest use cash only at this location or any location to buy Marta passes/tickets because it something happens regarding your transaction the staff here will direct you to the 1800 number. One lady told me "I don't know what to tell you honey." I mean you have no way of giving someone a pass that you keep on your persons incase the machine isn't working or improperly charges someone. One lady was on the phone and I had to wait until she got off her cell phone to help me and it was clear she was talking about personal business. Come onnn Marta.....where are the leaders making sure that we have top notch service at the Airport??? As a matter of fact just try to load your card yourself online/app because you'll be stranded at the airport location dumb and stupid if you're relying on an attendant that stands around to provide assistance. The train itself is overrated and the operators speak very fast like: "peatree corners" instead of: "Your next station will be Peachtree Corners and thank you for riding with us."
