I took my mom and aunt on this train a long time ago. I didn't feel scared. It was clean and well lit. I guess those days are over. While we were visiting the Georgia aquarium, we decided to take Marta to the airport. It took us a few minutes to figure out how to get a ticket. Then, a guy who was there cleaning the station asked us where we were heading. Who would imagine the station worker gives us false information? We ran to catch a train heading the wrong way! Luckily, I noticed that and got off the train. An elevator is a home for homeless people and inside the train smells like pot. Even with downtown traffic, you are safer and better off taking Uber. read more

Civic Center Station - MARTA is located where Peachtree St NW is over I75/I85. Train riders can enter this station from either side of Peachtree St NW, then read the signs in the station that direct riders which direction the trains go, and use either the elevator or escalator to go down to the appropriate loading area. The only times that I've gotten off of the train at this station was so that I could walk to either the Georgia Aquarium or World of Coca Cola, and the only time I've gotten on the train at this station was because I had returned from the Georgia Aquarium or World of Coca Cola. Every time I've been in this station, there have hardly been any other people around, including law enforcement, so I'm actually a lot more cautious, alert and aware of my surroundings when I'm in this area. read more

Upon exiting the train at the Civil Center something appeared normal but at the same time abnormal. What I mean is that at first quick glance it appears to be an underground subway but the station is actually elevated, except for the extreme ends of the platforms, where the line once more becomes underground. This is because the station perpendicular to and above the trench for the Downtown Connector (I-75/I 85). The Civic Center station is also the only subway station in the world that is simultaneously above a highway and below street level. You can catch the Red and Gold lines at this station. There is no Marta parking lot/garage for this station. This the station you take to get to Emory University Hospital Midtown, Centennial Park, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, The World of Coca-Cola, and The Georgia Aquarium. Upon entering the stairwell, there is a chance you will catch a whiff of the city into your nostrils ( if you know what I mean). You might find a homeless person or somebody rambling off something incoherent, but as long as you stay aware of your surroundings, you should be ok. This stop is on both the Red Line and the Gold Line. From here to the airport is about 17 minutes with 9 stops. This stop is for those going to the GA Aquarium (it's a short 10 min. 0.5 miles walk from the train station) and the World of Coca Cola. There are no parking here generally its a heavily used station. Been here several times over the years-only during the weekends and daytime. Never had any problems. Probably one of the only subway stations placed above an interstate. Convenient to Civic Center, World of Coke, Crawford Long, and a butt load of other downtown spots. I wish more people would use marta. read more

What can I say about MARTA. I've been living in Atlanta for over 20 years and never thought to review this place till now. The reason being - last weekend took a trip to New Orleans on MEGABUS. Pretty good deal - but that's another story. However, once you get off of the train and stop unto the platform of this station - you would notice the air foul with a mixture of burning electro-magnets, dust, and "gunk" (which I will not mention on a public blog). Dimly lit and breezy from the air traveling from the outside and the subway tunnels. Once you get off the train you can easily view where you can enter and exit the station with a simple tap of the BREEZE card. For those of you that are new to Atlanta the BREEZE card is your access to MARTA's rails and bus services. Please advise once you get these cards they are reusable - you can reload them and use them again. Once you exit you can either climb the stairs or use the escalator to work against gravity for you. During the day around this area is seems pretty safe. MARTA's police and Atlanta Police (APD) are patrolling the area. However, during the evenings it can get a little rough, but not as rough as one can imagine. You might come across homeless pedestrians wandering about cursing and yelling strange jargons at you. And because this is the loading/unloading point for MEGABUS you might come across some interesting people. But if you mind your own business and stay alert to your surroundings you should be safe. I do believe during the evenings if MARTA police is not patroling APD will be around the corner. read more

I arrived at 6:30 pm on the dallas bus and the bus I was taking to Washington dc left at 11pm. we were left on the street to wait the entire time. no restrooms and no seating. I was terrified the entire time. drug deals hookers homeless people. left a bad impression of atlanta read more

Not the most interesting of MARTA stations to wait in, but it is always clean, well-lit and the "Upcoming Trains" screen always works (thank all the goodness!) I've spent many a late night and early morning here, and only a few times have I been uncomfortably harassed by what I call, "Creatures of MARTA"- It seems a fairly safe location. NOTE: The north and south bound platforms are on separate sides of the street, meaning, you can't from Southbound to Northbound without exiting and paying for another trip. And it is not entirely clear which side is which, so make sure and read the signs BEFORE you tap into the platform. There are a few stations like this, and they sure are a pain in the butt, but what can you do? This is also the Megabus hub for Atlanta, so it is convenient enough to take MARTA here, hop off and run up to catch the bus. This is the best option as there is no parking. read more

I get that this was an early bus (6am) and I have no doubt the driver had to get up early. That said, upon entering the bus I was told I had to check my backpack. In the meantime the majority of the bus had their bags on the bus with them. Since the bus was still parked at Civic Center I got off and asked if I could please grab my bag and I was told no. I then asked if I could grab it at the stop in Chattanooga and I was told yes. Flash forward to Chattanooga: I asked about grabbing my bag and I was told no. I mentioned that she (same person / the driver) had told me I could grab it once we got to Chattanooga and she basically started yelling at me. I'm a really calm person and when people start to escalate their tone I tend to get even calmer. I just looked at her and said "it's fine. You had just said I could grab the bag in Chattanooga". Begrudgingly she told me to climb into the compartment and find it. Not 5 seconds after I climbed in there she was yelling again. It was early, I was tired. I just looked at her and then she started demanding that I get out. I was confused. She said "you're looking at me funny. You need to get out of there" I said I was just tired and she said "I'm tired too now get out of there". Again, I understand it's early. I get that driving a bus can be exhausting. With that in mind - it's still a customer service position. Had I been a nuisance, had I been yelling and causing a scene it would have been a different story. This was just really uncalled for and pretty degrading behavior. Maybe it's the only available driving job at the moment and perhaps its a super sucky one but as a paying customer on a 6am bus, I don't expect to be treated like a teenager in need of tough love. read more

The Civic Center MARTA Station is one of the larger transportation hubs in Altanta. Many commuter buses make their stops here. Both the red (North Springs - airport) and gold - line (Doraville -airport) trains come through here. This is also the drop - off and pick - up site for Megabus. There are no parking available, just drop off and pick up lanes. It's a very high traffic area, so practice caution. There are always people coming and going, not to mention vagabonds who roam the streets. There are officers patrolling the area though. read more

Given this is a hub for Megabus, both entities should have a serious conversation about the problematic elements that dwell the outside block. I came across prostitutes and hustlers as well as other persons who were simply a little too observant for my taste. Given how this stop may provide the first impression and experience of what is otherwise a lovely city and state, local politicians and police departments should seriously consider putting more seat and enhancing the social fabric of the vicinity. read more
