Martell Music Entertainment was absolutely incredible as our DJ for our wedding this last Saturday at the Brazilian Room! We had Paul himself as one other staff member whose name we didn't catch (sorry!) and they were both fantastic. To start with the pre-planning, Paul is extremely experienced and does a great job of guiding you through what wedding entertainment looks like, while also asking about your wants/ thoughts and making sure to take special requests into consideration. He comes prepared with a sample timeline, suggestions for less personal music selections (like pre-ceremony or dinner background music) and is extremely detail oriented, down to asking what our officiant would be wearing to make sure he had the right kind of mic for him. He was great at communicating, and confirmed every single detail down to practicing all our bridal party's names for the bridal party entrance and making sure he had the exact timing of our songs right. Day of, Paul was amazing. The wedding ran 100% smoothly with seamless transitions and clear announcements and instructions for every event. He worked amazingly with our caterer and day of coordinators to produce a flawless event. And most importantly, the music was amazing! Having a fun reception was my husband and my number one priority and Paul kept the party going all night long. He was amazing at reading the crowd, pumped up the crowd without being overbearing, and made sure to play every single song we requested. Throughout both planning and the wedding day itself Paul was incredibly professional, accommodating, personable, and friendly. Last but not least, pricing: Paul was not be cheapest of our DJ options, but of everybody we looked at he was in the top 3 most affordable, with the best value of what he offered. He is not pushy and although he let us know about options such as photo booths and up lighting he didn't nag us when we said we were happy with just the DJ and MC services. Martell Music was amazing! Out of all our wedding vendors, we felt they went above and beyond in more ways than one. Paul followed up with me directly, unlike other services who sent generic follow-up emails when I inquired about services and cost. Paul took such an active and positive roll in our big day (June 21, 2018). He came to our rehearsal to make sure he had the music timing down and also did a separate walkthrough. He made some great suggestions and really listened to what we wanted. I didn't know this, but him and his co-DJ are ordained. My minister got sick and had to be swapped out 30 minutes before my ceremony. They were ready to step in if I hadn't had a friend to step in who was also ordained. Then, my wedding planner kept dropping the ball on our reception schedule. Paul stepped up on our behalf and got her back on track. If I could do things over again, I would have completely entrusted Paul with running the show. Our guests had a great time and were so impressed that my engaged friend asked for contact information so she could hire them for her wedding. DJ Paul Martell has my highest recommendation. He was referred to me by my uncle who is also a professional DJ, which was already recommendation enough. But DJ Paul Martell really went above and beyond to make our wedding ceremony and reception back in September memorable and amazing. The weeks before the wedding, he checked in frequently with us to review music and the event timeline, gave expert advice where it was needed, and adapted to our less conventional and even last minute requests. He had to work around a ten course reception dinner, clips of music I had made for the ceremony, a live performance, and wedding guests ranging from teenagers to elderly Chinese grandmothers. The preparation was so thorough that when the day came there were no surprises on the DJ front except how much we could relax and have so much fun. His setup and breakdown along with his partner was timely and professional. We did not have a wedding planner but DJ Paul Martell expertly kept the cadence of our wedding. He brought wonderful lighting to the dance floor. He played our song requests, avoided our do-not-play list, and mixed in some great picks of his own. I am VERY particular about my music and I loved everything he played and how he mixed it up. I contacted Paul to provide DJ services for my big 7-0 ! birthday party and was very pleased with everything he did. Right from the get-go, we talked about music, timing, guests and expectations. Between phone calls and emails, we had all bases covered and everything arranged for the big event. Paul and Steve were at the venue early, setting up and making suggestions for additional lighting and handling all the details. They did everything right to make the party flow and it was evident that they had lots of experience, handling groups, working with the caterers. Paul Martell of Martell Music was the DJ at my wedding on May 31st, 2015 at the Temescal Beach House at Lake Temescal in Oakland, CA. From our initial meeting, through the planning process, and the day of my wedding he was always on time, very professional, and displayed a love for what he does. I had my wedding in September last year and Martell Music was recommended to me by a friend who used them at her wedding. I had a very specific list of music that I want but didn't know all of the song titles. They spent 2 hours with me at the consultation and had an extensive samples of music for me to choose from. At the wedding, from the ceremony to the reception, the DJ took charge of keeping the flow of things, coordinated with the minister, the photographer, the caterer, which was lifesaver because I was so overwhelmed and all over the place! He also took song requests from our guests, and he was so impressive everyone just had a blast! Paul Martell was the DJ for our wedding in April 2013 at the Brazilian room in Berkeley. He was great! He was helpful in the planning stages by giving us lots of suggestions for appropriate song choices for every part of the ceremony/reception. On the day of the wedding everything went smoothly, and he was instrumental in keeping the schedule moving along....i.e. reminding us when it was time to do the toasts, cut the cake, etc. The dance party was awesome....he kept all our guests on the floor dancing...especially useful was his tactful handling of requests from our guests....played a few of their requested songs (in particular the ones from my dad, haha) but also politely told a few that it wouldn't be possibly to fulfill all their requests as time was running short. Great job by Paul Martell of Martell Music -- as DJ at my daughter's Brazil Building wedding! Paul took great care to get a sense of the bride and groom's musical taste, as well as a read overall on the guest list. He solicited favorite info on favorite songs and genres and also added at our request some unusual ethnic and vintage music. Paul also paid great attention to organizational issues, helping us consider what elements (e.g. introductions of bride and groom or important guests) we wanted to include and how the timeline for the event would proceed. Our music was wide ranging, by design, and kept all sorts of guests on the floor. The first dance was sweet, later we were moving to classic rock, motown, and more. Some of my favorite moments, which illustrate how well Paul managed a diverse crowd: a table of young people leaping to their feet for a polka; a Turkish line dance where a male grad student tore up the floor with a bunch of fancy footwork; and my 20-something nephew taking to swing. Martell Music really helped "make" the event, and on our terms. Bottom line: Paul was a thorough planner, responsive to our needs and taste; on the day of the event, the operation was smooth, planning paid off, he read the crowd well, and guests (not all of them necessarily in practice for dancing) had a great time on the floor! read more
